30th Anniversary Collection / Re: EE Mandalorian 14 Pack
« on: May 28, 2007, 12:37 PM »
Questions for Adam:

Is this truly 14 figs for $69 and change or is it two sets of 7 figures for $69+?

Will there be a female Mandos? (I understand if you can't answer this or any of the others, but I hope so. Some of those conept female Mandos look awesome.)

Will Boba and Jango be two of the figures in the sets?

If yes on Jango, will he be one fo the 14 point figures?

Are any of the following in the sets:
Montross
Jodo Kast
Jaster Mereel

If so which ones?

Really for now the most important question for me is the difference in price. One set of 14 (in two packages of 7) or two sets each at $69+.

Thanks to any questions you can answer now, and when the time is right answer later.

Oh and Jesse, I'm totally down for ordering these bulk with the Pittsburgh group.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: AT-PT Pod Walker
« on: May 28, 2007, 11:43 AM »
If that's them, Hasbro should have made this the size of their AT-AT toy.

Then how big do you think the AT-TE is supposed to be when Hasbro eventually gets around to it???

Giving toy scale sizes, I think nearly everyone would be happy with an AT-TE that is the same size as the AT-AT only half as tall. The pricepoint is the sticking point here. If Zizzle can make a Black Pearl playset for $60, then Hasbro should darn well be able to do the same thing for the AT-TE. Especially consdiering there will be more opportunity for multiple purchases for this ship vs the Black Pearl for instance.

At teh size I gave, I can see the pricepoint being $60-80. At $60 I'd buy 3. At $80 I'd only buy 2.

Hasbro please be REASONABLE with the pricepopint here. You CAN do it.

Besides, you (Hasbro) have been promising this to us for years now. You first said if it had a role in ROTS you'd make it. It did and you didn't. Then you said, well if it was in the cartoon you'd make it. It did and you didn't. Now you've said well if it's in the CG show you would. It is....will you now???

Please do not disappoint us on the vehicle. The AT-TE is far and away the most desired ground vehicle from Star Wars to be made into a toy.

I ran a poll on another site I belong to and it clearly won. In each tier that is was in it consistently beat out the competing ship by at least a 5 to 1 margin. In some case 10 to 1.

The AT-TE MUST be done.

Okay to the size of the ship more specifically and what it should include:
• Same size as AT-AT (half the height)
• Rotating cannon on top that can fit the AT-TE gunner (makes sense don't you think)
• ALL six ball turret (4 in front and 2 in back) can rotate fully-If LEGO can do it so can Hasbro)
• Opening cockpit to hold two drivers.
• Mid-section panels come off to hold at least four clones
• Rear section panels come off to hold two clones.
• all six legs are fully articulated

Things the set could have (but would make it more expensive so are not really neccessary):
• Electronics
• Two exclusive AT-TE driver figures

Gawd there is too many to list.

There will be one in each wave at least. Then once we get that, we'll move on to the next one.

Just WAY to much to whittle it down to one most anticipated.

Yeah, It's definitely undersized. I think Hasbro's thinking is that we will just deal with it and be happy that they even came out with it.

Yes, it should be bigger and taller. It should be three times as tall as the AT-RT.

here's the proof of it from the official site.
http://www.starwars.com/databank/vehicle/atrt/index.html (3.2M tall)
http://www.starwars.com/databank/vehicle/atap/index.html (10.97M tall)

The AT-AT is 15.5M tall so that puts the Pod Walker 2/3 the height roughly.
http://www.starwars.com/databank/vehicle/atat/index.html

It appears that Hasbro made it just sligthly larger than the AT-RT. And you know what? I'll deal.... You know they wont' make it again and teh right scale. So why bother arguing the point.

I'll get three of these if they are $25 or less.

Good vehicle, so-so execution. Price remains to be seen. I do think it will go over well at retail and won't last too long on shelves.

...Unfortunately, I'm going to want all of those exclusives - hope they end up selling outside of the conventions.  :-\

They will.

The more I keep thinking about this, the more I beleive these will be readily available after the con. Think about it, we've heard time and again that 50,000 of a figure is a starting point for Hasbro for new figures. There is expected to be  60,000 fans there. Not everyone is going to buy one. Sure some will buy their full alottment but not all of them either. Okay so the vendors will buy their allotment too. Still, I just don't see 50,000 CIV droids or Luke selling at the con. And if 50K is just a starting point, don't you think Hasbro probably made more than this? I may be giving them too  much credit but they should know by now that exclusives sell well regardless. So I'm thinking they made much more than 50K of these figs. How much more, who's to say. But 75K yes, 100K maybe. These should become plentiful after the con.

I wouldn't get too excited about having to bid high on eBay just yet. I have that feeling that these figs may become like the Vader of CIII. I could be wrong too though, so take this info with a grain of salt.

1911
I certainly will agree with you Jesse. Exclusive figs shouldn't be NEW figures. That severaly hampers the ablility of even the average fan, let alone we collectors to get the figure. Wouldn't it be better business practice to make them available to a wdier market?

Repaints are somthing that are not as desired and wouldn't neccessarily be as appealing to casual fans, kids, and some collectors. It would still be a desired piece at Cons because of exclusivity. However we wouldn't be cracking our skulls against the walls in frustration at Hasbro trying to ge this stuff.

While I have the money to buy from evilBay, I'd rather not resort to it. It just feuls the argument that scalpers have.

We are crazed fans for this stuff and instead of bidding a modest amount, we've "got to have it now" so many people will bid extremem amounts for stuff like this. What's really sad about it, is that it's turning regular fans into scalpers as well. They know they can makes a few extra bucks off the rest of us, so why not? Of course I personally hate that attitude.

So where does teh blame lie? With many, not just one. Hasbro for making them exclusives in the first place, scalpers among others for taking advantage of the fact, and many collectors for buying into the whole thing and bidding like mad.

It's a viscious cycle that I will be all to happy to see end some day. As much as Hasbro's stuff looks nice at the con (from the pics I've seen), they still manage a way to really pi$$ off their customers. And these exclusives are squarely marketed for collectors, not kids here because of the fact that it's a con exclusive. So they better not even dare to use that argument.

RS has some great quality pics of most of the news stuff

things I like so far .... everything :P

My impression is that this is a year for a loose collector because those toys look more playable than ever ;D

DS

Man am I glad to read someone else is thinking like this too. I really don't play with my toys, but dang I'm going to be SO tempted. The hyperspace ring is awesome. I'm not really so miffed that I'll have to get a second Jedi Starfighter, because I'll be able to show it in it's different configuration this way.

Man, there is just too much to talk about. I'm gonna look at some more pics though before I comment even more than I already have.

1913
Ooh, these are excellent figure weapons. I've been to their site several times. Haven't order yet. But they look amazing. I'll be entering the contest for sure. Thanks Jesse.

1914
Wow, the plethora of stuff being shown is awesome.

I'm just going to post about certain ones I am really looking for ward to or
are new.

Wave 6:
Han Solo (Bespin Torture Rack) with multiple torsos (It's about time! Awesome)
Lando Calrissian (Smuggler) This was an easy custom for me, but I imagine I'll still get it. Gotta get the poofy armed Lando!
Rebel General McQuarrie (Hoth Trooper with McQuarie likeness) Very cool. Glad to have another Rebel
commander and I'll probably get a couple of him to use for customs, namely the Yavin war room scene.
McQuarrie Concept Snowtrooper-excellnt. I can't recall what the concept one looks like at the moment though

Wave 7:
A-Wing Pilot (Tycho Celchu)-Nice, so Tycho finally gets a figure.
Ewoks 2-pack (NO wokling...that's next year;)) Okay sure. We can use more Ewoks. Was hoping for a wokling but no biggie for now.
McQuarrie Concept Han Solo-Another great in the McLine

Wave 8:
Clone Wars Clone Trooper (muddy deco w/ SOFT GOODS poncho) Is this one from Commander Faie's brigade?
Rebel Vanguard (from Star Wars: Battlefront) - Nice, a little late, but nice.
Pax Bonkik (Rodian Podracer Mechanic) WHO??

Comic Packs
A'sharad Hett & The Dark Woman (Star Wars: Republic) YES!!
Mara jade & Luke Skywalker (Star Wars: Heir to the Empire) Ok good for Mara.
Bultar Swan & Koffi Arana (Star Wars: Purge) Excellent, glad to get a Bultar fig.
Baron Fel & X-Wing Pilot (Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron) Cool, glad to finally get Baron Fel

Exclusive Figures
Concept Obi-Wan Kenobi & Yoda 2-pack (SDCC) Well this bites! Damn...was hoping to get the whole line and the SDCC exclusives are going to make it that much harder.
501st Legion R2-KT (SDCC) ??? Apparently a pink R2 in honor of Katie (r2-KT) the daughter of 501st founder Albin Johnson.
Shadow Scout on Speeder Bike (SDCC) This sounds very interesting. Again though, grrr, exclusive...
Concept General Grievous with shield from the Clone Wars ?? anyone have a pic of what this is supposed to look like?

Vehicles
Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi Starfighter with Hyperspace Ring YEAH!!! Hyperspace ring!!!
Y-Wing Fighter (yellow deco with pilot and R5 non-removeble astromech droid) Glad they are reissuing
this. I got one way back when, but I wanted three of them. Hopefully they will be easier to find this go
around.
ARC-170 Starfighter (Clone Wars deco) Cool. I like the concept of this.

Battle Packs
ARC-170 Battle Pack - (Clone Trooper, 2 Pilots, Red/Blue Astromech) Okay, if you need the figs to fill up
your ARCs. I'm covered on the pilots. Might have to get this for the Astormech droid though.
"Wampa Attack" - Wampa, Tauntaun, Luke Hoth I'll pass on this most likely, but it may just sell well. It's
been a few years for either the Tauntaun or Wampa.

C4: Hasbro Galactic Heroes & Unleashed Battle Packs
Several exclusive "cinema scenes," featuring characters from the Mos Eisely cantina, in which two of the packages will fit together to form a complete scene...and one of them includes a light-up base with music! I like the idea of sets being able to fit together. MODULAR to a point. Now if they'd only do that with the 3 3/4 in line.

Figures include all of the members of the Modal Nodes (including Lirin Carn!), blue Snaggetooth, Jabba the
Hutt, Bib Fortuna, Qui-Gon Jinn, Jar Jar Binks, Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace), and more!  Some nice choices there!

On the Unleashed Battle Packs front, looks for new sets featuring Commander Bacara and his Galactic Marines and Mace Windu's BMF Clone Trooper Battalion! Awesome. I'll get these for sure.

Well that's as brief as I could be, sorry for the long post.

Anyway, lots of good things announced already from
CIV. Heh, much more money being spent. I can here the
cash registers ringing already.

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Canceled figures that need to be released!
« on: May 22, 2007, 05:40 PM »
Still, they have the mold. You would think it would have made its way into a battle pack or exclusive somewhere by now. Its not like Hasbro to make something and not use it.

I'd have to disagree there. Recall they had the final Action Fleet wave bascially done and stopped it. Almost didn't see the last wave of Ultra Titanium. (Well technically I haven't see the last Ultra wave myself, but some people have been lucky enough to find it.)

Then ther eis those figures posted in the first posts in the thread. There's plenty of toys Hasbro has almost or fully completed and just didn't send it to manufacturing.

So it may be odd for them to make something and not manufacture it for release/sale, but not unheard of.

1916
I have an action figure erection...  B:::::::::ID

-Hermi Odle...  Friggin' sweet and about time.  Can't tell scale but he's actually not huge/towering as much as he is broad/round.  I think the way the image from EE is photoshopped though makes it much more difficult to tell scale.  I'm happy so far, look sweet to me...  Wishing he had a basket of apples, but I vow I'll get that for him myself (thinkin' dollhouse store or something on that).

-McLuke...  Very cool, very fem...  I've been loving the McFigures all year and they really are just outstanding sculpts and articulation to boot for the most part.  Very happy with shim.

-Yoda w/Kybuck...  LOVE IT!  Fantastic realiistic style sculpting, the Kybuck looks to have some articulation, love the hood/cloak...  Perfect looking.

-Ani w/Tats...  Again, loving it.  Hasbro's kicking ass with CW stuff so much that I'm just simply that much more pumped to see the NEW CW toon and what Hasbro does to accompany it.

-Roron...  Lookin' very nicely articulated, love the scowel too because he didn't look anything but pissed off in the toon.  Great sculpting though, and it's nice to have an Ithorian that isn't Momaw now.  May be my favorite of the wave with him.

-Malak/Revan...  I can see Revan customs coming now.  Not to spoil the game for anyone but YOU are Revan in the game, you just don't remember being him till late in the game.  I sorta did my character's look up so he resembled me as best I could, so self-customs using the Revan figure are quite likely...

Malak is just outstanding though.  Two great characters from a great storyline.  Now I'm hoping for just more from the game at some point.  Nice articulation, details, paintjob...  Too much good stuff to take in at once.

-Prevous (pre-Grievous?)...  Not something high on my list, yet I still gladly will take something this "odd" and unique.  Easy to slip into a Cantina, but also nice to stand with your favorite Grievous figure on the display shelf...  Now all we need is a good to-scale movie Grievous to accompany him.

-3P0 w/ear-hump Salacious...  Very nice again, and finally looks like a Crumb that might not melt over time.  Will his eye go into his socket?  Will he have articulation like the throne 3PO or the ROTS 3PO (hard to tell from the photo but I'm almost leaning towards ROTS 3PO).  Not a figure I had a huge demand for, but as 3PO's go it's one of the only routes left to take the character so I'm happy with it.

Figure overload for sure...  Is C4 ruined now thanks to EE?  :)  Who gives a ****?

So eloquently put Jesse, ha ha.

I too have an action figure errection.

This is an excellent wave. I'll buy each one. Jesse, I thought about the possibility for customs as well with the Revan, but more from Commando type standpoint (Mandolorian) rather than game character.

I agree with pretty much everythign you said, with exception to Anakin maybe. I'm not so excited for that figure. I'll paint the pants the right color, then maybe I'll appreciate it more.

Still, I'd say Hasbro scores a home run with this wave. There's certainly something for everyone here. OT, EU, CW, Prequel. Good Job Hasbro!

Strangely enough, I think I'll probably buy several Kybucks. Might be neat to see several in a diorama. Of what I'm not sure yet. Maybe racing similar to horse racing? I wouldn't just have them grazing in a pasture as that's a bit too boring for a diorama. I just want something different. (So if you see someone else do a Kybuck racing diorama, just remember where you hard it first, ha ha.)

1917
These didn't last around here in Pittsburgh at the full retail price, let alone either discounted price.

Sucks too, cause I would have built up the 501st Airborne, Galactic Marines, and a few Utapau AT-RT drivers.

« on: May 20, 2007, 06:15 PM »
SA Coruscant trooper and removable helmet 212th. thats what im waiting for.

I think that and Commander Faeie (no clue how to spell this name, I hope I got it right) are the only clones I'll bother to buy if they are released. And if they do Faeie theyll have to do white Gal. marines.

Huh, I hadn't thought of those troops. White Gal.Marines would be cool. I've seen those customs and they look awesome. VERY close to snowtroopers, which is a nice bridge to the OT troops.

1919
This is by far the coolest wave of the year without a doubt. I think Roron Corobb looks the best, he is awesome. Hermi Odle will be super, he looks wonderful!!! Boobs Luke should be cool, too! Man, theyre all super cool, I can't find one 'good' let alone bad part of this wave, they are all great!!! First EU wave ever, and its a winner!!!

I agree completely. Oh and that's Boobs McLuke...ha ha

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Cloned Out?
« on: May 20, 2007, 12:22 PM »
If anything, I'd rather see straight battle packs of basic troops. No frills. No Heroes or Troop commanders in the packs. JUST TROOPS!

This is Star WARS. Battle packs by their very name infer battles. Who does the MAJORITY of the fighting? The grunts of course. Plenty enough room on the pegs for the Heroes and troop commanders on single cards. Heck most of us only need one of them, so why pack a hero and/or troop commander in a battle pack?

I'd really love to see straight battle backs of the troops who were most seen in the movies, then if successful Hasbro could venture into the minor troops, then maybe characters for which some people would like multiples of, 4 or 5 figures to a pack. Mostly depending on size. Sell the packs for $20 tops.

Here's one list I'd propose.

OT Major Troops:
Stormtroopers
Snowtroopers
Biker Scouts
Hoth Rebel Soldiers

OT Minor troops:
Sandtrooper (Black Paulron)
Sandtrooper (Grey Paulron)
Sandtrooper (White Paulron)
Death Star troopers
Death Star Gunners
TIEfighter Pilots
Imperial officers (black)
Imperial officers (gray) Lieutenants (two "pips")
Imperial officers (gray) Commanders (three "pips")
Rebel Honor Guard (with caps for each too, so we can choose if we want them to be Guards or soldiers as seen in the medal ceremony)
Rebel Hangar crew
AT-AT drivers
Bespin Guards
AT-ST drivers
Endor Rebel Soldiers

OT Multiple sets (other)
Jawas
Tuskens
Ugnaughts
Gammoreans

Yes I know there may be more, but these make sense as 4-5 figure packs.

Prequel sets:
Major:
SA Gungan Warrior
Battle Droid (Both ALL tan sets and ALL red sets)
ALL white SA Clone trooper (AOTC)
Utapau troopers
501st troopers
Elite Clone trooper (Kashyyyk)

Minor:
Red Security Battle droids
Blue Pilot Battle droids!
AOTC Clone Pilots (now SA please)
Super Battle droid
ROTS Clone Pilots
Airborne trooper (Utapau)
Shocktrooper
Galactic Marines
Coruscant troopers
Bly's clones
AT-RT drivers
Grevious Bodyguards (ALL blue and ALL white sets)
Destoyer droids (include at least a couple "shields" too)

Multiple sets (other)
Utapau Warriors (SA)

That roughly covers them. Again I'm sure there's more, but take a look at the list and really think do people want many sets of aliens other than the ones I posted? Probably not. You may, but that's not enough for Hasbro.

Again, all of these sets would be GRUNTS ONLY. I tried to keep them listed as to how many were seen in the movies, hence why some are considered Major and others Minor.

Having ONLY one type of figure in a pack makes it much easier to decide how many packs we are willing to get. As an example, take the Sandtroopers. I'd buy two to thre sets of the black paulron ones, while only 2 grey and then one white. But that gives ME the option. Instead of dealing with a disproportionate amount of troopers to officers to heroes to contend with, that give me unwanted figures, which makes me feel like I'm losing money.

NOTE, this was kept to MOVIE ONLY figures.
Enough with the EU clones. Single card those ones. Most people will only get one maybe two of them so Hasbro can make the most money off them that way as opposed to a battle pack. (Again yes I understand the Battle Packs are $20 and the figus are $7.50-inc. tax so it would seem Battle packs are bigger money makers.) But to include heroes and/or troop commanders in those sets, really is wasteful and a deterrent to all but the most hardcore army builders (and yes, I'll include myself there), and we don't account for as many sales. Casual collectors and many kids are not predisposed to getting battle packs of troops who were not seen in the movies.  But they might buy one or two single carded ones, while we army bulders will buy more than that, but not enough to justify EU as battle packs. Besides, EU clones, concept clones etc. are not really thought of to be in high numbers, so why army build them. They were never "seen" like this. (With maybe an exception or two that might have been seen in comics, but again that's more a niche market than to the general populace for which Hasbro is marketing to.)

So what are your (Anyone, not someone specific) opinions on this?
