Title: Muppets
Post by: Scott on April 21, 2003, 02:56 PM
Man oh man I saw the Swedish Chef/Kitchen set this morning at Suncoast and I can't tell you how tempted i was to buy it.  Being almost 1/2 Swedish the guy is sort of an icon to me.  Unfortunately I don't really have room to display it (it is freaking huge) nor do I have the willpower to collect another toy line and my wife would have blown a gasket I think.

Still, this has to be one of the nicest toys ever.  There are 42 accesories and it retails for $35.  It is one of the coolest things I have ever seen but had to pass on.

I know BDW collects these, anyone else?

Ha Ha. Thats cute. The Swedish Chef is one of my favorite characters. I don't collect these but I maybe tempted. Nice detail.
Nice to see someone else has a Swedish background.  :)

Ya' know, the Muppets line is the ONLY other figure line besides Star Wars that I've ever considered collecting.  I love those figures!  The detail, the playsets, and the wide variety of character choices is absolutely amazing.  Not to mention that I'm pretty nostalgic about the show itself, having grown up on it as a kid.  I really wish I had the funds and extra space to collect this line, but I just don't unfortunately.

But yeah, those playsets are AWESOME!  Animal's drum set, Beaker's lab, the Chef's kitchen...   8)  The Swedish Chef was always my favorite character as a kid.  I used to impersonate him all the time too (still do)!  Ah, good times...   :)

I love these sets. The only reason I don't have them is because there's so much star wars I can't afford!

I loooooooove the Muppets. My kitchen finally shipped a few days ago, I cant wait to get it! This is the only line aside from Star Wars that Im dedicated to (although I did get the first series stuff of TMNT). If you hate exclusives and variants, this is definately the wrong line for you. Although, you can get almost all of the exclusives through the Collectors Club, and variants aren't hard to come by. So far Ive managed to collect a complete set for the exception of the Ken Lilly Wedding "Kermit and Miss Piggy Wedding" two pack, which was given away as a gift at his wedding. Ive managed to get all three industry giveaways, and the rest has been pretty easy thanks to the Collector's Club.

This line, in terms of detail, authenticity, play value, playsets and overall value, is definately the best line of toys out right now. They aren't cheap, but you get incredibly meticulous detail, lots of nice accessories, and very nice likenesses. The Swedish Kitchen is easily the best playset ever made, and its a bargain at only $35-$40.

I highly recomend getting into this line, and if anyone needs help, Id be glad to show you what you need to catch up on, provide you with lists, etc.

Just saw that the Henson family bought back the Muppets franchise for $78 after they sold it for $680 million...wow what a return and what a horrible buy

Ya' know, the Muppets line is the ONLY other figure line besides Star Wars that I've ever considered collecting.

You lucky S.O.B. I am such an impulse collector, it's sad.

I have the entire line of figures from SeaQuest. Same with Warriors of Virtue. I never watched SeaQuest but bought the figures because they were cheap and in scale with my Star Trek figures. I saw Warriors of Virtue ONCE with my son. I liked the way the figures looked better than the movie and scarfed them all up on clearance. Why? I DON'T KNOW!

Now I'm into monkets (http://www.galactichunter.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=TOR&Number=33168&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1). I'm trying to control my spending, which has gotten easier thanks to the drought of Star Wars toys and my complete lack of interest in AA's Trek line. Muppets figures are too big for my space, and Simpsons are just too hard to collect (Thank you, Playmates).

I'm really trying to focus on Star Wars, but those @$$#•!3$ at DC Direct are finally offering me the Silver Age characters I've craved since childhood. I'm running out at noon today to pick up my SuperFriends Green Lantern & Sinestro 2-pack. B@$†@®¶$!

Anyway, I'm glad to read the Muppets are home where they belong. Good for them and good for the Henson Family. I look forward to great things from this franchise.

Definately good news that the Muppets are back in the hands of the Hensons! Now, if they could just get rid of Disney.... ;)

Got my Swedish Kitchen set, and let me tell you, this is by and far the coolest toy I have ever owned! Pictures dont do it justice, seeing it in the packaging doesnt either. You need to get this thing out and play around with it and check out all the cool stuff with it. The detail is unsurpassed! Palisades has definately set the bar very high this time...

Even if you dont collect the Muppet toys, I have to say that this is a must have for any fan! Even if its just the only piece you have, it looks fantastic anywhere, almost like a miniature replica. Of course, I'll warn you now... Pick up this, and you'll probably get addicted! :)

Well, time to go watch some more Time Life Muppet Show DVDs! :)

I assume you guys have seen the picture of the next upcoming Muppets playset...  The Pigs in Space spaceship cockpit/crew deck area - or whatever you'd like to call it.  I believe it's in this month's AFD or AFN magazine.  Check it out if you haven't.  Not the Chef's Kitchen, but still pretty dang cool!

Have I mentioned that I'd really like to collect this line...  ARGHHHH!!!  >:(    NO, NO, NO!!! I can not succumb to the "over-collecting" Dark Side like Morgbug, OCB, and friends!   :P

Sorry, no can do John!  It's a pretty damned cool set, so maybe it's best if you not be a tightwad and go fork out the 40 bucks and pick yourself up one!  Of course who am I to talk, my tightwad butt won't let go of the collecting pursestrings for anything except Star Wars...  But if I did, this would be the first thing that I'd buy, that's for sure!   ;)

Go pick it up John!  You know you want to.  Just don't feed the kids for a few days or something...   :P

The Swede in me wants a hero...this playset provides it.  The thing is so Huge though I have nowhere to put it, plus I'd need Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Scooter etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc...I've been down this road before...Oooh, Just Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and Maggie

The REALLY ironic part about this is that my daughter's birthday was Tuesday and her favorite toy is a Little Tikes Kitchen. The Swedish Chef's would have been cheaper AND taken up less space. 'Course it might not be appropriate for a two-year-old, but I'm sure she'd have fun watching Dad play with it.

That is a heck of a good price on the Kitchen set!

Palisades has done it again! They are releasing another industry only giveaway, a Black Jacket Rizzo figure. They will have a lottery as per usual, on this time, people who've won the lottery before are not allowed to participate.
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: BigDumbWookiee on May 21, 2003, 08:45 PM
Ok, having become officially burnt out on trying to get Industry Giveaway figures, I am going to sell my set of Industry Giveaways. These are the first and only three so far, with a fourth (Black Jacket Rizzo) coming to WW East. The figures are all loose, and are Invisible Beaker (totally invisible, not to be confused with Vanishing Cream), Holiday Kermit, and White Tuxedo Rowlf. I havent set a price yet, I just want to know how many people are interested, and what you think would be a fair price. If youre interested, email me at adamclowe@earthlink.net.

Thanks!
Adam

Also in the news, the Muppet figures, starting with Series 4, are going to be available for sale at Target! Expect them soon, when Target begins "reseting" their toy sections! They will also be getting an exclusive Kermit Koozebane Reporter figure! :)
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: Morgbug on June 18, 2003, 01:34 PM
In an omnipresent effort to get my wife collecting action figures, I ask the following:

Are there any muppet figures warming the pegs around you?  I'm looking for the following figures:

Kermit
Animal
Gonzo
Rizzo
Statler and Waldorf.  I know these guys are coming in a future release, but is there a set of them already out at a reasonable price?  I recall them being a convention exclusive too, but that would be too much dinero for this purpose.

Thanks. ;)
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: BigDumbWookiee on June 18, 2003, 09:05 PM
No Statler and Waldorf sets available yet, they will be available as single figures in Series 5 I believe, or possibly 6. There will be an exclusive Vaudeville style two pack available at Wizard World Chicago, for about 20 bucks. Collectors Club members are also allowed to order them. If you are still interested, contact me on or around Wizard World Chicago, and I will order you one when I order mine.

As for the others:

Kermit: Havent seen any in ages, keep your eye on Electronics Boutique or Toys R Us for the old exclusive Tux version which could possibly be around. Or hold out for less than a month, and Target will get an exclusive Koozebane Kermit, with a newsman styled Kermit in trenchcoat w/ mic, and a display base featuring Koozebanians and Murdelumps (sp?)

Animal: Can only get him in the Electric Mayhem set, or you can buy the convention tour edition that is sold at most conventions Palisades attends. You can buy it through the Collectors Club if you want to join ($50 life time membership)

Gonzo: Two were available, standard retail version and Electronics Boutique exclusive. Might still be available at ebworld.com

Rizzo: Just now shipping. Should show up in stores soon; Target will be carrying Muppet figures starting at Series 4 which includes Rizzo. Should be available at Target in a bit less than a month when they do the Toy Dept. resets. He's shipping to stores like Suncoast, Media Play, Sam Goody, and Electronics Boutique right now.

Hope that helps! :)

Post by: Morgbug on June 19, 2003, 12:20 AM
Thanks Adam.  I'll let you know about Statler and Waldorf.  Series six for the regular versions I believe.

Kermit is online ebay-wise pretty cheap.  Probably score there unless chuckles finds one in his travels.

Animal is available at ebworld for $24.99 but that's a bit steep methinks.

There is indeed a gonzo available online ;D

Rizzo, if current, piece of cake really.

Up here in Canuckada, only collector stores, EB and TRU carried them.  TRU dumped them after a single line, EB up here has stopped carrying toys and that leaves only collector stores.   ::)  Oh well.  Guess you gotta do what you gotta do.
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: whojedi on June 19, 2003, 06:30 PM
If it is the Kermit with the Tux that was the TRU exclusive, I have an extra one if you are interested.  Just been sitting on my shelf for quite a while.  Shoot me and email at whojedi@indyknights.com if you want it at cost.

Adam, just got my Tux Beaker and Bunsen sets yesterday and they are sweet!!!

I think I am going along with you that I am going to stop collecting the industry giveaways.  I will probably keep the ones I have, but no more.  Unless I can win another lottery.   ;D

Yeah, the OCD in my started jumping for joy when even Palisades said the Industry Giveaways and Wedding Set weren't considered part of a "complete set".

Just got a confirmation that my Rizzo repaint shipped from EB. I cancelled the orders for everything else when I found out Target would be carrying Series 4 and up. Now I can save some serious cash! :)

Check out Palisades Collectors Club details:

(http://www.palisadestoys.com/new/images/cclub/benefits.gif) (http://www.palisadestoys.com/new/cclub/index.php?s=1)

Pretty attractive for a $50 LIFETIME membership. Take note though, this doesn't apply to retail exclusives, but it does make it that much easier for fans to get show exclusives. Tempting, to say the least.
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: whojedi on June 20, 2003, 11:05 AM
Yeah, the Palisades Collectors Club is the way to go.  You can get up to two of each convention exclusive figure through the website.  I have saved so much money by doing that.  The Statler and Waldorf exclusives are not up for purchase yet and neither is the Culinary Catastophe (sp?) Chef that will be the SDCC Exclusive.  The most current one you can buy is the Bunsen and Beaker Tux 2-pack.

Go to http://www.palisadestoys.com/ to register.  Well worth it.  Plus, everyone that works there is very cool.  I have done a number of trades with them and they are great to work with.

Anyone here still collecting this line, or are we all mostly just admiring it at this point still?  I'm heading down to the Comic Con tonight, and could look into trying to pick up the couple exclusive Muppets figures there for anyone who might be interested.  They were some form of Animal and the Swedish Chef, I believe...

Just give me a holler if you want 'em!  But do it quick, as I'm departing soon...   :-*

Thanks for the offer on the con exclusives.  That is the nice thing about Palisades, you don't have to go to the con to get one.

Well, that's certainly nice to see a company that doesn't jerk it's fans around with these convention exclusives!  Guess that also explains why there were still plenty of the Swedish Chef and Animal figures sitting around at their booth near the end of the day on Friday, which I had found rather surprising...  I still really love this line, but just can't expand into it due to all the mega $ that I shell out for Star Wars stuff.   :-\

Brent, if you're reading this, I totally brainfarted on your request for an Animal figure from the show.  Sorry bud!  But it sounds like you can still snag him directly from Palisades, or somewhere else apparently...   8)

Kermit w/out tux
Fozzie
Crazy Harry
Miss Piggy
Gonzo
Animal

Kermit - Should be fairly easy to pick up on eBay, he was one of the first figures

Fozzie - 4 versions are available as of now, San Diego CC exclusive Invisible Spray Fozzie, Toy Fare Exclusive Red Shirt Vacation Fozzie, Best Buy Inc (Media Play, Sam Goody, Suncoast) Exclusive Blue Shirt Vacation Fozzie, and regular Fozzie

Crazy Harry - Might want to check ebworld.com or beanstoys.com (same for Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and Fozzie)

Miss Piggy - 2 versions available, regular Series 1 and EB exclusive purple dress Piggy

Gonzo - 2 versions available now, regular version, and EB (I think) exclusive repaint, Series 5 will see Gonzo in purple tux with Camilla

Animal - 2 versions available, 1 exclusive to the Electric Mayhem set, the other exclusive to the Palisades Convention Tour (wearing a Palisades tshirt)

Hey guys, I know this isn't the trades section, but I figured I'd just mention this.....I've got an invisible Beaker and a Vanishing cream Beaker....both in bag/box and mint.......I'd be interested in trading for loose Star Wars army builders if you're interested......

I've also got one of those ultra rare (200 made total) Holiday Kermit's.......but mine is an error and only has half of his bow tie painted....it's also mint in the bag. This figure was a Giveaway from Palisade's....one was given to each wholesaler who bought from Palisade's.....and then a few handed out to Palisade employees.......

I'd also consider selling these figures.....just make me an offer ;)

Actually there were about 500 Holiday Kermits made, and they were also sold to Fan Club members through a drawing. It was either 50 or 100 sold to Fan Club members...

Michael Renegar is the VP of Palisades toys......Michael Horn (President) and Michael Renegar (Vice President) founded Palisade toys. Micheal Renegar hangs out on YoJoe.com.......he's kinda incognito there.......but I found out who he was via doing some trading with him. He helped me acquire a few different things for my collection

I had just got that figure when they did the initial run.......I'm guessing they must have made more due to the demand the club members must have put on them.....so they must have cranked out a few more......no biggie....200 or 500 doesn't matter to me....still a tough figure to locate ;)

Post by: BigDumbWookiee on October 5, 2003, 04:47 PM
I expect that is exactly what happened, seeing that there was an enormous uproar when the Holiday Kermy was released. Once again, a big case of "collector entitlement", where a huge group of collectors felt they deserved to get an industry giveaway. I wouldnt be surprised at all if they just beefed up the numbers on it... Oh well!

That's part of the reason I stopped collecting Industry Giveaways. Im not in the toy industry, so why do I deserve it? I lucked out and got Invisible Beaker (first 500 members of the Fan Club), Holiday Kermit and White Tux Rowlf. After Black Jacket Rizzo came out, I said screw it, and sold the others.

See man, my thoughts and feelings are the same as yours. I LOVE the Muppets (as anyone who grew up in our time does) and I do love Palisade's attention to detail in the line.......BUT, I don't care for all of thier exclusives.......just way to damn many :(  I'm kinda to the point now where I figure I'll just pass these figs on.......and either cash them in for some $$$ to help in building my toy room....or else turn them into something else I can better appreciate ;)
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: BigDumbWookiee on October 5, 2003, 06:09 PM
I could understand when the line was started, and they needed exclusives to boost popularity and gossip/word of mouth, but now they are pretty well established and quite popular. At least they have the club, otherwise I would have stopped collecting some time ago

Yeah, I've decided to part with my Holiday Kermie, I really don't like the figure much since it is just a repaint anyway.  I am going to keep my invisible Beaker though.

So, if anyone is interested in a Holiday Kermit MIP, let me know.

You get your Kermie yet Adam?

Got my Janice repaint figure today, the only one I ordered online. Very cool figure! Cant wait to get the rest of this series.

As such; has anyone seen these? I'd love some help getting them. I need the four regular figures. Gonzo, Peppe, Newsman, regular Janice
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: DarthWormie on October 8, 2003, 02:03 PM
found them at one of my local Targets about 2 weeks ago and bought only Pepe. I'll be passing on Gonzo (have the first one) and Janice (something about her face just doesn't look right). Muppet Newsman will be my nex purchase.  I've been checking the other 2 in the area periodically, but they still do not have them.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself here, but I can't wait for the next series w/Statler and Waldorf and Clifford. I'll pass on Police Fozzie though.

The Palisades website has pictures of wave 7 up. While I'm disappointed that they're doing another Kermit figure, I am glad to see Robin and Johnny Fiama coming up. The 4th fig in that series is Beauregard the janitor.

I know there's alot of copyright red tape and whatnot, but I would love to see Sesame Street muppets eventually make their way into this line-up.

Is anyone else still following/collecting this line?  I, like many others, have been admiring this line from afar for awhile now, but it is tempting to start picking a few figures up (although I am sure my wife would not be a big fan of that :P).  I did see over at OfftheCard.com that there is another playset coming up, the "backstage" playset, which could really be ultra cool.  You can read about it HERE (http://www.offthecard.com/features/newsarchive/112003.shtml).  It should be under November 14th news I think.  Just out of curiosity, for those of you who collect these....how tough (or expensive) would it be to pick up some of the past figures (for example, Fozzie and/or Rowlf...my two favorites).  Anyways, I really enjoy reading everyone's opinions of these figures, they really look great from what I have seen.

Sweetus is going to be a 2004 exclusive.

Wave 9 and 10 look great! :)

Wave9:
- Tux Fozzie with Chucky
- Gozo/Rizzo two pack from MTI
- Lips
- Pops

Wave 10:
- Nurse Piggy
- Doctor Bob
- Sal with Penguin and Cheese
- Uncle Deadly

Playset: Vets Hospital with Nurse Janice

I'm really looking forward to getting Dr. Bob, Pops, Lips, Nurse Piggy and the Vets Hospital. Of course we also have the Backstage w/ Rowlf and Sweetus to look forward to.  :)

Sounds like an awesome line up! I absolutely love this line.

Jay, if you need to get ahold of me, my new email address is aclowe@tds.net

Also, I've heard that the Musicland (Suncoast, Sam Goody, Media Play) exclusive versions of the Vacation Pepe are due out soon; if anyone sees one, could you pick it up for me? Ill gladly cover all your costs.

Got my Holiday Rizzo today! :) Very cool figure, but his hat doesnt fit. My collection is once again complete, except for Industry Giveaways and Ken's Wedding Reception Gift, none of which I plan on collecting.

Cant wait for Series 6, I've been patiently waiting for Statler and Waldorf in normal clothes since the line first got started.

Pigs in Space is due out soon as well, very anxious about that playset.

Palisades is also re-releasing a playset sometime next year, no word on which. I have them all, but wouldnt mind seeing a repainted Electric Mayhem set. It would go well, since we get repaints of all the band members. You could set up two complete bands. If its just a rerelease in updated packaging though, I wont get it. So hopefully they do something very major to update it, or keep it exactly as is. Ill be a little ticked if it has just a new figure, or new accessories. Bleh.

The backstage playset looks fantastic, and HUGE! Glad to see this set, along with Vets Hospital. That pretty much covers all the best environments. I still wish (hope) they could pull their stuff together and make a scale Electric Mayhem bus, but Ive heard that wont happen.

I cant begin to say how excited I am about finally getting Sal Manilla too! He's one of my favorite Muppets. Now we just need to get Bean Bunny, a bigger crew from MTI (We are getting Kermit as Captain Smollet soon), and more supporting characters. I want rat and penguin packs, accessory and scene sets, etc.

While we're on the subject of Palisades, and this doesnt really warrant a new thread, what the hell happened to Urbanimals? Palisades doesnt even recognize their existence now. They said they put them on the back burner, but geesh, theyve even taken away the stuff from the forums. I thought they were pretty freakin cool, and Im not even into Urban or Hip Hop.

Do any of you experts on this line have any advice of where I could pick up a few of the past figures (for decent prices)?  Or do these figures get pretty pricey once they are off the shelves?  I really don't know too much about the line in general, but wouldn't mind trying to pick up a Rowlf (my fave as a kid), or maybe a Fozzie as well.  I probably shouldn't even start, because then I'll want them all...really enjoyed the Muppet show as a kid...but I didn't know if there was somewhere online to find these figures reasonably, if ebay was the best option, or if you had any other thoughts.  Thanks for any advice you might have.  Also, one other question, I read a rumor of that Backstage playset coming with a "naked" Rowlf...is there any way to get a figure like that (coming with a playset), without getting the playset?  Anyways, thanks again.

I'm force feeding this line to my wife.  She loves Muppets and I'll turn her into a collector if it's the last thing I do.  She is most definitely an opener.

She has Rizzo and Kermit thus far.  Would like to pick up the convention Bunsen and Beaker and convention animal for her.  Rolf in tuxedo and Gonzo are on the way.  Hoping the tuxedoed old dudes will be at a local collector shop before Christmas.  They told me in the next two weeks, so here's hoping.

Hey Adam, check is in the mail.

I am going to Suncoast tomorrow, so I will check for the Vacation Pepes there.  I got my Toyfare Vaca Pepe last week.  Also, I was at Target in Noblesville today and they had the SwineTrek Playset.  It is a pretty nice looking piece.  Bigger than what I was expecting.
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: BigDumbWookiee on December 11, 2003, 01:36 PM
My SwineTrek has shipped from EB, cant wait for it to arrive!

I noticed they also have the full six figure set for series 7 to preorder as a set:

Robin (as Frog Scout)
Kermit (as Captain Smollet)
Beauregard
Johnny Fiama (Signature (as in most-well-known, not autographed) version)
Johnny Fiama (Casual Repaint)
Johnny Fiama (Steppin Out Repaint)

In regards to Johnny, the Casual and Steppin Out versions will be the same sculpt, just repainted (just like all the other chase figures so far). The Signature version will be slightly resculpted and will also feature a different paint job.

Title: Re: Muppets

I found Statler and Waldord at a Suncoast over the weekend and bought them for my wife for Xmas.  They're her favorite characters and figured it would be something different to go along with the jewerly and Victoria's Secret ;)  They were $9.99 but since they didn't have any price tags and the store was busy, the manager told the cashier to ring them up for $7.99.  Not that $4 is a lot of money, but I'm not going to argue.

And if she doesn't like them, I'll gladly take them off her hands.

I've taken my first step into a larger world. I picked up Rizzo tonight, and now I'm looking for the following:

Kermit (nekkid)
Fozzie
Rowlf
Crazy Harry
Gonzo
Miss Piggy
Pepe

A I hope that'll be it, be we all know how that goes. :D

Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: Ben on January 18, 2004, 01:04 AM
Yeah, it's getting to me. I was looking at them at Sam Goody tonight, and it sturck me that I should have been collecting this from series 1 and not screwing around with MOTU. Oh well.

Those playsets are damn expensive, and I wanted Beaker and Animal too. Plus, I've heard great things about that Culinary Catastrophe set. Oy, stupid toy addiction. But I have to say, if you're still reading this, this line is amazing in every sense of the word, and I own only one figure.
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: Ben on January 18, 2004, 06:07 PM
This is my kind of line to collect. I went to another Sam Goody, and found some older Muppets figures. I picked up Crazy Harry for $2.24, and Rowlf and Scooter for $4.49 each.

Then I ventured to TRU, and picked up Kermit and Piggy for $3.98 each.

It was a good day. :)
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: BigDumbWookiee on January 18, 2004, 07:16 PM
Cool! Good find! The majority of the figures can be found at really good prices, you may be able to snag large lots on eBay. The only ones that really go for much are the chase figures, and even then, all things considered they aren't too out in left field.

I'd recommend joining the Palisades Collector's Club if you're serious about collecting them. They let you buy any of the con exclusives (limited 2 per con), and I think the membership lasts a lifetime.
Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: Ben on January 18, 2004, 10:21 PM
I'm not looking to go overboard on this line. I don't seem to remember characters like Sam Arrow or Lew Zealand. So I keep this line to characters I recognize.

I would like to get Animal and Beaker, and that Culinary Catastrophe set, but I simply don't have room for them, and the first two sets have pretty much disappeared around here. Meh. I'll decide later.

Have to pick up Gonzo and Pepe now. And find a Fozzie. :)

If there are any left once StarWarsShop comes back online, I'm down for one too.  I have always liked the Muppet line, and although I have been unable to collect it, I don't want to pass this one up.  Is anyone else around these boards still collecting the rest of the line?  From what I have heard/read Target is not going to carry these anymore?  So is it just TRU (or online/speciality shops) for these now?  I kind of wish there was a way to pick up some of the older figures, for reasonable prices.  But, while I'm wishing, I wish there was a regular Rowlf coming out besides the one exclusive to the playset.  He was my favorite Muppet, but not sure if I want to spend the moolah to get the whole playset just to get him (although it looks great).  A very tempting line though....

Although I still don't have any figures from this line, I have been really tempted lately to start in picking up a few of my favorites.  My wife and I picked up one of those "Best of the Muppet Show" DVDs this past weekend, so that doesn't help either I suppose.  I'll probably hold off and see if I can get an Indy Kermit to start things, but Palisades really does a nice job with this line.  Anyways, Action-Figure.com has some pics from "Megacon" that includes some upcoming Muppets pics.  I think that Sweetums figure looks pretty nice.  Anyone else here still collecting this line?

That is one awesome figure and the one I've been waiting for.  He freaks my wife out, so I can't wait to bring him home.

In case anyone didn't see it, I was looking around Palisades' site today and they have some updates in the Muppet Bits including pics of the backstage playset with Gaffer the Cat.  Also, today they posted a new update with a pic of an upcoming exclusive "Super Beaker" figure.  Most of you probably already knew this stuff, but I'm new to reading about the line so thought I would post it just in case:

Ordered my Indy Kermit yesterday and today the status went from processing to sent to warehouse. I have started to just collect the Muppets from the Muppet show and the movies . I didn’t watch much of the Muppet tonight show so I’m not real familiar with all of the characters form that show. However in the future if I like the looks of a figure or if it is an exclusive I’ll probably get it. I just can’t stay away from exclusives.

IF anyone has a target near by they have marked down all of their muppets stuff, series six is marked down to six dollars, and the pigs in space playset was 24 dollars and the mega muppets were down to 17 dollars.

Picked up Statler & Waldorf at my Target for $4.xx--and the rest of that wave was the same price.  They also had the Pigs in Space playset for $17.xx, and a large Beaker for $12.xx.

I've got an extra TRU exclusive Kermit in Tuxedo, too--if anyone needs it, drop me a line. . .

Just noticed that Palisades posted an update yesterday (3/24) which includes a number of pictures of the upcoming Sweetums figure.  I think that it looks pretty good, and I'm curious as to how he will be priced.  You can check out pics of the big scary guy over here:

Thanks for the link, that's great news.  Another one my wife would love to have (yes, I am collecting these vicariously through her).

Is this the picture of the assortment he's in?  If so, that's fantastic.  Three of the other figures she's asked about are Bunsen, Beaker and Swedish Chef, but we have no need/room/desire to get the playset.  What a great assortment.

Post by: Brian on March 25, 2004, 01:53 PM
I'm definitely no expert on Muppets stuff, but I'm pretty sure that grouping of figures are actually "mini-muppets", which I think are sort of PVC type figures.  I'm not entirely sure though, that's just what I thought.  I wish my wife wanted to collect the Muppets, I have a hard enough time trying to talk her into letting me get a few :P.  That's ok, we probably don't have the money or space anyways...although I did get the approval for an Indy Kermit :).  Sweetums looks nice though, would be a great one to have too I think.

I'm not sure on this either, but I thought I had read somewhere that Target was dropping the line, but Toys R Us was picking it back up...at least for this year.  I can't remember for sure what assortment they were starting back up with, but I thought it was the next one...I could be wrong though.  It would stink if it was that limited though, and missing from most of the major retailers....especially for such a great line.

Oh :-[ :'(  Dang.  I was hoping to get her one of each of those guys.  Guess I'll go back to scouring ebay for them.  Pity.

Also a pity on the number of retailers carrying these though it could always be worse, you could be in Canada.  Outside of comic shops, only TRU has carried these and only series 1 & 4.  Comic shops charge $16.99 per fig, so after taxes nearly $20  :-\

I just decided a couple of weeks ago, that this line will be my new adventure.  They look great and I was a huge Muppets fan when I was younger.  I went ahead and got rid of a few things to fund this collection.  I'm going to try and get my hands on everything I can.  So far I have ordered 52 of them including all the playsets, a ton of exclusives, and a ton of variant's.  I'm planning on opening the playsets and the regular figure's and will probably leave the exclusive's and variants in their packages.  I also ordered all 3 Mega Muppets.  I got all of this for around $900.00 shipped so I thought I did pretty well.  Had to give some things up such as AFA graded Tortured Souls series 1 and some other good stuff, but I think I will be really happy with my decision.  I will be sure to post pics after everything arrives.   ;D

I'm sure you Muppets collectors and fans have already been discussing this, but I just caught a glimpse of the upcoming "Backstage" playset, and just like all the prior playsets, it's absolutely awesome!  God, I wish Hasbro could do something/anything like this with the SW line.   :'(

I also wish I had the money and space to collect the Muppet line, 'cause it absolutely rocks, and the playsets are second to none.  In case you haven't seen the Backstage set yet, it's in the latest issue of Lee's/Action Figure News.  I guess it was shown at Toyfair, so this is probably totally old news.

I never chimed in about the Indiana Jones Kermit either, I don't think.  I got the chance to play with one of these at the L.A. Wizard World convention, and it's absolutely awesome.  Incredible detail, outstanding articulation, great accessories, etc.  Doesn't get much better than this.  (didn't buy it though)

The coolest feature on him is his removable hat.  I noticed from afar that it came off his head, so when I got the chance to play with it, I was expecting a little peg in the hat, and hole in the head - but NO.  The hat is freaking magnetic!  How damned cool is that?!?  And it's a strong magnet too, not like that cheap ass crap that Hasbro puts in the SW figures.  Fits like a charm, and the magnet is completely invisible.  You have no idea it's even there 'til you set the hat on his noggin.  You can hang Kermit upside down and shake him and the hat won't come off, but it's easily removable with your figures.  Way too cool.

Did I mention that this line is awesome?!   :-\

Congrats Padawan....nice score.  I received my first and only Muppets figure a couple of weeks ago, the Adventure Kermit courtesy of SWShop.com.  I was fortunate enough to not have any problems with my order, and got it a week after I ordered it (I wish everyone else would have had as good of luck).  Part of me still wants to get into this line further, but due to space/budget/and now moving, I'm putting it off.  I would like to get a Rowlf figure of some sort before its all said and done, he was my favorite as a kid.  I'd like to get a regular Rowlf, but unfortunately its just with the playset the way it sounds.  I thought I had read a rumor that there might be a "Dr. Bob" Rowlf in the future, I always enjoyed those skits...so hopefully that is true.  The Sweetums pics I've seen make that figure look like a tough one to pass up too.  Anyways, again, nice score there! :)

I'm not collecting this line (although it has been quite tempting a number of times), but I see that EBGames has the Backstage Playset (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/244404.asp) up for preorder, shipping in September.  If I was into this line, I'd be so psyched for this playset.....plus, it has a "regular" Rowlf...my all time favorite Muppet :P  If only I could get the figure without spending $50 (not that the playset wouldn't be worth it, but where would I put it?)

I am still collecting the Muppets, although I stopped collecting exclusives that are not offered through the Collectors Club (i.e. Dream Date Gonzo).

It's hard enough to keep up with the multiple repaints, shifty eyes variants and glow in the dark versions to go chasing even more stuff.

All in all though, I am very happy with the line and it looks like there is a good chance that the line will continue past the current contract which is up at the end of 2005.

Although this line kind of seems to be winding down now too, they still had (and continue to have) a nice run here.  This was a line I was always interested in, and seeing THIS REVIEW (http://www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_111004a.htm) of the new Backstage playset, reminds me of that.  If I had the money and space, it would be nice to have this playset, and fill it with a dozen or so of my favorite Muppets and call it good.  Plus, it comes with the famed nekkid Rowlf, my favorite muppet.  I wish he would be released individually though, so you wouldn't have to pick up the $50 playset to get that figure.  Anyways, nice review and pics at the link above for anyone interested.

anyone nab a sweetums yet? i'm still debating on the $40 tab... by all accounts it looks like the  muppet figure to end all muppet figures, but damn... $40... the line is winding down, but it looks like the palisades people aren't going down without a fighting chance - series 10 is going to be online only, and they're developing ideas and prototypes for beyond - looks like a line of vet hospital figures. let's hope they come through.

and here's the new ebay exclusive, available now for $20:

An old topic, but with the new movie coming up this week this line came to mind again.  Like I mentioned in past posts, it was a line I always wanted to get into, but just couldn't at the various times I guess.  I'm still interested in picking up some of the figures - but just taking a quick look at ebay today/tonight, it looks like many of the figures (particularly the ones I'd want) can get awfully pricey.  Our daughter has been way into the Muppets (watching the old shows/movies on DVD with us) for a couple years now, and is really psyched for the movie.  I was sort of hoping there would be more merchandise out there again (or more specifically, toys).

It is probably the absolutely worst time to be looking at these again with the movie hype driving prices, but I'd still like to pick up a few.  The Muppet Show is really right up there with the things like Star Wars, Indy, Joes, He-Man etc. with that big nostalgia push with me.  If anyone here collected them at one time and is looking to unload some, let me know :).  Anyone planning on checking out the new movie?  We had a coupon from purchasing the original Muppet movie on DVD, so we picked up our tickets today for Wednesday's show.

Title: Re: Muppets
Post by: Brian on November 28, 2011, 05:24 PM
I was able to get my first (well, aside from Indy Kermit) Palisades Muppets figure with one of my favorites, Fozzie.  I was able to get him for around $15, which I didn't think was too bad.  I've been watching ebay a lot lately for various figures, and some of the prices are outrageous for this line.  I always knew my other favorite, Rowlf, was pricey - but I think he's likely "out of reach" pricey.  I'm just going to try to pick up some of them here and there as the budget allows.  Our daughter really wants a Miss Piggy, and she seems pretty affordable, so she might be next.

Like I said, I did pick up the Indy Kermit when that was available years back, but looking at this Fozzie really shows what a great job Palisades did with this line.  I can't believe how accurate the figure is, not to mention all the neat accessories.  I know the line got plenty of buzz when it was being released, but for some reason I just never jumped on board at the time - but wish I would have.  It is too bad they couldn't bring it back somehow with some of the heat from the movie.  Anyways, not sure how many we'll end up getting since so many of them are quite expensive, but they sure are nice figures.

I picked up Indy Kermit also.  I remember how hot this line was and always took a few minutes to check out the insanely detailed playsets they put out.  The quality of the sculpts on the figures was amazing.

I also remember when it crashed and Target was blowing out some of the playsets for really cheap at the end.  I don't know if all the chase figures helped the line any, but they put out some cool ones.

It's hard to believe that a company could have that hot of a line and then go out of business.  That's a perfect example of how hard and expensive a toy line is to create and get to production...something people should understand on certain otheR Sites the next time they bitch about why Hasbro can't make this or that or why belt is upside down on their favorite Clone.

Yeah, I found that odd as well.  Our daughter has always liked the Muppets from watching the old show on DVD, but is way into it with the new movie, and there is next to nothing out there available.  There are some smaller hand puppets at TRU, and we found some pretty nice plush toys at the Disney store online, but that's about it.  She's enjoyed looking at the pics online of the various Palisades toys, and we're trying to pick up a few of those here and there when affordable, but that line in general is pretty pricey.  Its too bad they couldn't have had a bigger toy line out for this resurgence.

If you want to see some craaazy prices on eBay, check out some of those Palisades Muppets prototypes. Yikes. I loved that company, sucks that every license they touched pretty much went down the tubes, except for the Aliens/Predator stuff.
