Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Daulty Dofine, Battle Droid, Ratts/Pit Droid,
http://twitpic.com/5u48cg =
E1 Vos, E1 Sidious, 'lil Anakin, Naboo Royal Guard, Quadrinaros/Droid, and Queen Amidala.
-
Anyone else think it's time to start naming the assortments instead of using wave #'s? ???
-
Welp, I was kind of excited until I saw some of those pictures. Padawan Anakin? Really? Regular version is in desperate need of an upgrade. Soft good KKK hood on Sidious?
I like all of the background character figs though...
-
Doesn't seem like Sidious should have a lightsaber for this offering. I understand the reasoning, but it's just not screen accurate.
Can't wait to see the high-res images of the presentation later today. Camera phone pix from whoever uploaded to the Official Site only show so much.
-
The more I think about this wave, the more I'm amazed with one omission... #nojarjar?
Even with as much vitriol as he gets, I would have probably bought a new SA Vintage carded JarJar... :-[
-
It took 20 years for people to come around with the Ewoks. Jar Jar's got another decade before he's out of the doghouse.
-
I am surprised Jar Jar isn't in this. It would have been done and over with him. Him and Tatooine Anakin is still MIA.
-
I am surprised Jar Jar isn't in this. It would have been done and over with him. Him and Tatooine Anakin is still MIA.
Yeah - I would have thought that an updated Jar Jar and Anakin in the outfit he wears for most of his time in the movie were sure things for this wave.
Oh well... :-\
-
Looking forward to seeing some clearer pics (or presentation slides) of these later on, but initially they look pretty nice. I'm actually glad to see a new 'lil Anakin as well, but also wish it was the more regular version. Plus, another Padme. If they would have put out a redone Jar Jar, I think I'd be pretty happy with the TPM lineup at that point. I'm actually a little surprised at how much TPM product they're putting out. I understand the movie re-release and all that...and a lot of it looks nice....but part of the reason we haven't seen TPM stuff for so long (for the most part) is because it doesn't seem very popular and/or sell well. Plus, the movie is probably only going to be in theaters for a short time (similar - or shorter - than when the SEs came out), so hopefully they don't overdo it either.
-
They make the least needed Sidious upgrade.
Pit droid bonus with Quadrinaros and Rats but we are still getting a single pack Battle Droid. :( Not surprised. Might ruin the VOTC asthetics to put two in there.
Happy to see a new Nemoidian.
-
hopefully they don't overdo it either.
At least 12x new figures, plus the exclusive wave at Walmart and the exclusive BPs at TRU and rumors of Ep1 vehicle re-releases and a NEW vehicle (Naboo Starfighter). Plus whatever else they want to show us at NYCC in October.
I think it is safe to say they will overdo it... watch them get everything fixed this Fall only to screw it up with an overload of TPM. (history really does repeat itself! :P)
-
EP1 Sidious didn't needed to be updated, he does nothing in the movie. 1999 version is still a great sculpt. The emperor from ROTJ needs the update
-
A neat mix, I'm very interested to see final figures, close-up pics, etc.
The Jar Jar omission is indeed odd though, especially since they're probably banking on the movie coming out and appealing to kids again. I too would welcome a definitive Jar Jar... One that could end all future Jar Jars except a Senate one, maybe.
-

-
Jar Jar had been confirmed multiple times in Q&As last year to have been planned for the TPM wave before it got pushed back to be expanded and released with the 3D movie. So him being MIA is odd. Must be coming in wave 2.
-
I forget, is that the final Queen Amidala that needed to be made (not counting a much needed update of the battle one) ? I think there isn't anymore from TPM
-
Hopefully Maul has ball jointed elbows and hips... otherwise he's a total pass. Wait, new robe, I'll probably buy it for that. :-[
-
That is the last Amidala. This wave looks great. Jar Jar is a huge miss, though. Especially with doing a WM wave. Dofine is absolutely unnecessary. Too bad there's no preview pics of the actual cards.

It would be cool if Sidious had his Senator robes underneath his sith robes...head sculpt looks like it is Senator Palpatine under there
-
They're all insane.
Anyone else hoping that Anakin pans out into some Padawan figures down the road with new heads and decoes?
-
It would be cool if Sidious had his Senator robes underneath his sith robes...head sculpt looks like it is Senator Palpatine under there
Wait, are you saying they are the same character?
SPOILER ALERT.
What is the black thing next to him?
-
I think it's his hand warmers for when it's chilly.
-
Ooh... Padawan Ani gets a training ball and helmet - nice! Now I like JJ's idea of cranking out additional 'lil padawan even more.

-
Is the remote smoking a cigarette now that it's finished or is it supposed to sag like that? ???
-
Okay now I'm a bit more excited about Anakin and Sidious... I see Senator Palpatine under the hood too. Still want to see if Maul has new arms.
-
Wow, someone really pissed off Ben Quadrinaros.
-
Qui Gon and Obi Wan seem to be re releases of Eopie and tlc young Obi versions. The visible update is Darth Maul and Sidious robes. The sith outfit with their significative layers of clothes.
Hope they bear in mind this Sidious evolution for a classic Palpatine from rotj. ::)
-
Wow, someone really pissed off Ben Quadrinaros.
That was my thoughts, too. The angry "My engines aren't working and I want to get in the race" look.
-
Outside of Padme I am loving this wave, especially Quin and anakin! The Padawan buck is long overdue and is really welcome, I agree they should crank out some ROTS Padawans with this, they can also update the Lucas kid.
It appears they retooled Mauls saber, look at the blade flares. I was hoping Qui-Gon would get a retooled saber and head, maybe the production version will. Hasbro has managed to something I thought was not possible they made EP! feel exciting. Seriously the figures are more exciting than the film, even the Nemodian looks great!
-
Maul's lightsaber is still short. They have only made his lightsaber correct size once with the Sith Lord Maul in 2000.
-
Is the remote smoking a cigarette now that it's finished or is it supposed to sag like that? ???
Took me a couple seconds, but nice one. ;)
-
Definitely hoping for a closer look at Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul.
Qui-Gon looks very much like the Evolutions figure, but there were some things about the face sculpt with that figure that might bear revisiting. And overall that figure looked slightly out of proportion.
Then, there's Obi-Wan. While Hasbro may have taken another shot at Obi-Wan in the TLC RED line, there was something that seemed a little off about that one, too. I hope this version gets tweaked to the point that it's really impressive.
Darth Maul really seems to need the most attention. And unfortunately we couldn't get a good look at the figure in that slide. Hopefully we'll see something a little more high res in the near future.
As for the rest of this wave? Generally, I'm pretty happy with what I see. Queen Amidala, Anakin and Daultay Dofine all look pretty cool. And the Anakin body would definitely make for some good Jedi younglings in the future. Quinlan Vos is a nice addition, considering he is sourced to one of the scenes in Mos Espa. The pic of the Battle Droid was a little sketchy, and I'd like to see more.
Sidious looks a little big and bloomy, unfortunately. A Sidious/Senator Palpatine would be very cool though. And I'm wondering, is that a molded hood next to the figure?
-
Now are these figures going to be on the vintage cardbacks for the new Maul cardback? Originally they said vintage for the Wal-Mart wave and now it is the Maul cardback instead. I hope it's vintage just because I'd like the main guys Maul, Kenobi, Jinn, and Anakin to be on the vintage cardbacks. Yes, I am being selfish!
-
I'm crossing my fingers that Hasbro goes absolutely insane on this Maul figure - ball-jointed hips, elbows, the works. The snarling-looking face looks awesome, too!
Quinlan Vos was definitely an unexpected choice. I'll definitely be picking it up, because I hate the CP versions so much. In the display galleries you can even see that his hair is a separate-molded piece! Kudos on that, Hasbro. ;D
Sidious is a very nice-looking figure. What's that black bundle next to him in the slide picture?
-
If this is the new Qui-Gon he doesn't look new at all to me.

edit: oops, just realized this is probably from the blu-ray set isnt it?
-
Yeah, that is the blu-ray one. The head looks better than the evolutions one (I know it is the same head). I am hoping they (hasbro) add BJ hips on both TVC Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.
-
Now are these figures going to be on the vintage cardbacks for the new Maul cardback?
Yes, these are defintitely on the Vintage cards. You can see a sample of the new Vintage cardback in the slideshow...

-
Why are they showing Clone Wars vehicles on the back and not TVC merchandise?
Better choices would have been the B-Wing, Y-Wing, and Trench Run sets. (exclusive or not)

It is just a mockup, but maybe another reason is that those will be long gone before the first TPM wave comes out.
You can also make out that Qui-Gon is VC75. We'll see if that hold true.
-
All this TPM product is giving me flashbacks to 1999.

Absolutely :D
-
Wow, with all the quality updates we've gotten in TVC, I'm surprised Qui-Gon STILL hasn't gotten his flared lightsaber. Well I guess it is vintage, after all.

At sirsteves they asked this question and Hasbro they would look into it. I mean it is very simple just pack the 2002 Saga Saber in with Qui-Gon and be done with it.

Clicky to check him out!
This time we got a nice look at the Pit Droid, who will come with Ratts Tyerell next year. Ratts may be the highlight of the pack, but I think this Pit Droid is nice for a couple reasons.
-New/Unique deco
-Nice deco (as Pit Droids go)
-Return of 2-packs?
Check it out!
-
Very nice. I hope hit sports that weathered look when the final product ships en masse.
-
Me too Jayson. The deco was, frankly, shocking to me. Much more realistic than the original PD's save for one here and there. The 2-pack ones and the ones we got in the 30AC Legends were pretty spick and span though. Some of the ones that came with pod racers were a little grimier but not much.
Washes are something the line's seen so many cuts in lately that it's nice to see it back like that on something that really clearly benefits from it.

Clicky to buy!
You can pick up the new Pit Droid repaint for $2.99 on Ebay right now, however I have a feeling if you asked on the Hobbystock.cn Website (http://www.jedidefender.com/phpads/adclick.php?bannerid=133&zoneid=0&source=&dest=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hobbystockcn.com%2F), you could get the Pit Droid there as well, along with picking up the Naboo Pilot (http://www.hobbystockcn.com/starwars2012vintagewalmartexclusivenaboopilot-p-465.html) for $9.99 and Ric Olie (http://www.hobbystockcn.com/starwars2012vintagewalmartexclusivenaboopilotricolie-p-464.html) for $12.99!
Save some on shipping that way too maybe, and the prices are lower on the site than Ebay.
-
I like that little Pit Droid. I'm pretty happy that Hasbro was able to get us a bonus pit droid with Ratts and Ben Q. After Wicket and Logray, I wasn't expecting them to give us anything with the Ep1 pod racers so it ws nice to see those little bonuses added. :)
-
over at sandtroopers.com they have pics of the complete wave card. Some great, some sucks
-
They all look pretty great. Still mystified at Daultay Dofine, but hey. Ratts is screaming at his impending death.
-
I agree. They look nice. It'll be nice to see these on the pegs in the near future... just worried that they'll be that $1 jump in price that always happens around the end/beginning of the year. Then I might have to start scaling down what I buy. :-\
-
I wasn't even thinking of another price-hike... Yeesh. I can't imagine it, because at this point I think the price is already detrimental to the Vintage line. Older waves that saw any kind of "normal" distribution are a bit too easy to find... Wave 6, 5, 4... I see bits of all 3 of those, and all 3 shipped here fairly normal/steady. Now when any of those 3 hit, they tend to pegwarm (less wave 4 though since it hit a little less, but the carry-overs from it pegwarm steadily, like the AOTC Clone, or Obi-Wan).
-
Naboo Royal Guard Character Debut.
Hasbro doesn't even remember what it has made anymore.
-
I love the Maul cardback! There are some good ones in that wave.
-
Ugh, might snag Maul because of the awesome cloak/accessories. Different enough for me. ::)
-

I was starting to think I was nuts when I saw that pic at Sandtroopers. Glad someone else noticed.

Maybe they'd just rather forget about it. Though I have to say, preposed as it was, the sculpt was great for it's time. I'm excited to upgrade those guys (without goatees this time), but I just wish they weren't so expensive.
Panaka also needs a serious upgrade.
-
Quick question - I was chatting with someone last night who was under the impression that Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon have been upgraded with new ball-joint hips.
Is that true? I thought Obi-Wan was just a straight up repack of the TLC'09 BD06 Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon was a repack of the Evolutions sculpt with a repurposed cloak, but maybe I missed the news of an upgrade to them?
-
I don't remember hearing that they were upgraded. I think they are straight re-issues.
-
Thanks Jayson, that's what I recalled as well. Nice to know I can keep them on my 'skip' list. :P
-
They do look pretty nice overall. I haven't been a carded collector with the prequel stuff at all with this line (but have kept up with OT so far), but I'll admit I'm tempted to maybe just get a Maul/Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan trio. By far my favorite part of that movie, and might be fun to have those three. Otherwise, anything that isn't a new figure I'll be passing on too. I've noticed that Hasbro is sort of non-committal with the future of "Vintage" past next year (possibly switching to another cardback, to keep things "fresh"). I kind of hope they just stick with this vintage look for the "collector" line until the line is all wrapped up (if/when that happens).
-
I think Hasbro's milking the "We'll do ball-joint hips later and hope you buy these now without updates just for their card" cow.
-
Those TPM vintage cards are incredible. Can't wait to get a set, and leave them on their pretty cardboard. :)
-
We've got a pretty extensive loose gallery posted on our front page now, courtesy of site sponsor HobbyStock.cn (http://www.jedidefender.com/phpads/adclick.php?n=a1f4c31f)!

The quality is pretty on-par with the line as we know it... But I'm kind of floored by figures like Sidious. Really impressive.
One slight disappointment in Obi-Wan's skirt not being corrected in color. I'd probably have rebought that figure if the skirt was lighter.
Otherwise though, I'm geeked for 2012, and I don't even like TPM that much. :o :-X Keep an eye out for these to be up for sale soon, if you're inclined to pick up figures early.
-
Darth Sidious is probably the coolest figure to check out in this set of photos. Especially since the cloak and hood are completely removable.
-
I agree with you Nick, but I think Maul's pretty impressive if for nothing else than the details.
But yeah, something about Sidious just makes you want all those Emperor's/ROTS Palpatine's knocked out of the park in similar fashion.
-
I definitely agree. I was gonna pass on Sidious completely till I saw the robe less pics. He turned out really well, as did this whole wave. I'm actually really looking forward to the Phantom Menace releases, it's a very solid group of figures with a little bit of everything for everyone, cool aliens, army builders, droids, jedi and sith. Whats not to love?
-
Just the movie it's from I guess, haha.
Seriously though, it is a solid group. I really hope little Ani gets re-used to make some generic Padawans for big Ani to slaughter.
-
Does anyone know if Maul has ball-jointed hips? It's hard to tell from the skirt.
-
I don't think there's a figure in this wave that ISN'T a Must-Buy. LOVE the Maul.
Might break down and order a case.
-
They look great especially that Battle Droid :), Maul looks great but I need to see more detailed photos of him.
-
Compared to the other five, I hardly have any figures from this film, so I'm looking forward to getting most of these bar the repacks.
They've really gone to town on that Neimodian, I'd like to see a new version of Gunray done like this.
What is that gadget on the floor next to the binocs in the first Maul Picture?
-
I just woke up, and have had maybe just 4 or 5 sips of coffee so far, but I'm pretty sure the noggin' on this battle droid is a new head sculpt. It looks longer in the snout than the previous release.
The backpack is not consistent with the way they looked in the movie though.
-
And the big question regarding the BD is whether he can stand up or if he has gummy legs.
-
And the big question regarding the BD is whether he can stand up or if he has gummy legs.
That's one my biggest questions as well. If this is a harder plastic battledroid, I'll be psyched. If it's gummy, they can shove it.
-
I just checked my figures, that battle droid is new. At least the head sculpt for sure. It's more elongated. And now comparing the legs, they also appear to be a new sculpt compared to my figures.
The whole thing is probably new.
-
What is that gadget on the floor next to the binocs in the first Maul Picture?
I kind of looks like the back of the Jedi communicator, but that wouldn't really make sense with Maul. I think it belongs to Obi-Wan.
-
The backpack is not consistent with the way they looked in the movie though.
Because it comes with two backpacks - the standard grunt backpack and the commander antenna pack - carded pic (http://www.sandtroopers.com/sandwatch/hasbro/20111110_vintage/images/battle_droid_card.jpg). ;)
-

It didn't take you very long to whip that up in photoshop.
-
After setting up all my battedroids, I've forgotten how poor they stand. Not one since beyond the first four EP1 droids stands on their own or don't have worped legs. I hope this droid stands better. At least he comes with a stand.
-
There is some good stuff in this wave for sure. I cant wait til it lands - I think I want just about every figure except for Obi and Qui Gon
-
I will get Kenobi and Jinn just for the cardbacks. I like most every figures shown. Sidious really looks nice. Kind of surprised how well he turned out. I am probably looking forward to Maul the most. There is just something about Maul you know. Good stuff!
-
I was thinking about picking up those two for the cards too, Broem. Not sure if I can do it or not though. The price just irks the **** out of me these days, especially the more they re-use parts and repackage older figures (sometimes seemingly illogically).
Speaking of logic...
Daultay Dofine? Seriously?
I just don't get that one I guess. And I'm not railing on the figure by any means. To me he looks like maybe the coolest Neimoidian figure ever, and ALMOST makes you want a new Rune Haako (Sorry Rune Haako, I know you love Neimoidians, but I just can't say I really am ever giddy getting new ones). The whole removable hat and softgoods is kind of cool but these guys are up there with "Senator" type figures to me that don't really need the same levels of articulation, and softgoods aren't really as important on these to me either. They're just boring... Like Jocasta Nu, they just are meh.
Still, it's a neat figure. More intresting to me than the face in a onesie... And speaking of him...
How does his digestive system work? There's the answer I want on Quadrinaros. You're a giant face, basically. What's the deal there? That's some weird stuff. At least he's a 2-pack, which eases the micro-figure-stickershock a little, but still, worst podracer design, and makes for just a silly looking figure.
Out of the new figure images though, I was really interested in Maul/Sidious first, the Naboo Royal Guard second, Vos and Ani third, Padme and Dofine next, Quadrinaros last... Obi-Wan would've been ahead of the last 3 if they just had fixed his skirt fabric color. :'( As he stands now I'll maybe skip him just to save the money.
-
It would be nice if this new Battle Droid was capable of holding his blaster with both hands, like they all do in the movie. We haven't had a battle droid capable of that since the ROTS line i don't think. As for Quadrinaros, I think he's hilarious. Hasbro took this goofy, stupid character and made him look so unbelievably blood thirsty. Look at those red eyes and that sinister grin, he looks like he's gonna rip someone a new one and enjoy every second of it.
-
How does his digestive system work? There's the answer I want on Quadrinaros. You're a giant face, basically. What's the deal there? That's some weird stuff.
He eats, digests and poops all in the same action. Not someone you want over for Thanksgiving.
-
I'm far more likely to get a boring senator-type figure if they are well articulated. Though I do understand that aesthetically, trying to get soft goods to look good at 3 3/4" scale isn't easy.
That Battledroid's backpack looks too big. I'm sure we'll see variations of that figure...NOT SOON. I doubt its wrists swivel, that's a feature reserved for Clone Wars fire fighter droids that were barely available at retail. It looks like shoulder articulation is less than that of the Arena 2-pack droids, but hard to tell for sure.
-
I can always get the left arm under the blaster on the new droid sculpt, so if that works similarly on this one I'm ok with it. If not, that is lame.
-

Actually having him in attendance would be a dramatic step up from the company I am accustomed to on Thanksgiving.
-
Might be worth charging admission.
He looks like a stinkbug sort of.
-
Any plans to redo Queen Amidaala's red dress with the lights and super-funky hair-do? I'd be all about that. LOL!

Yeah, I'd love an update of her.
-
I am confused. Is this wave up next or the wave with Nom Anor? any pre-orders up for whichever is next?
SW just hasn't been that exciting for me so I have lost touch a little bit.

Marvel Universe has been pretty good though, eh?
Blew Star Wars out of the water completely at SDCC/NYCC
-
Seriously. ;D
That and GI Joe, and the new stuff Jazwares is putting out (SF, MK) is pretty cool too
But I am liking the TPM wave - I might actually order the case if I get a good deal. I want all but two figures.

-
Darth Maul (http://www.yakfaceforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=129&t=6713)
That looks like a major step forward for Darth Maul. I for one appreciate the more neutral facial expression. The articulation is very much appropriate to Maul. And the softgoods look well done. Maul's horns do look a little stubby though, but I think that may be attributable to safety standards more than anything else.
I agree with Jayson: some better paint apps on the lightsaber hilt would be much appreciated. But in the totality of the figure I think it may be a picking point, and not a real deal breaker.
-
Eesh, looks cross-eyed.
-
New Daultay Dofine Pics!
http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1070062-21/
He has some awesome articulation!
Ball-jointed head.
Ball-jointed shoulders.
Ball-jointed elbows.
Ball-jointed knees.
Ball-joined ankels.
Swivel wrists.
Swivel hips.
Possible swivel waist.

Looks like this wave is showing up at Target!
I just tried searching, but is this case not even up for preorder at sites like BBTS or EE?
-
This probably means no new SKU for vintage, which I thought there was going to be. Also means pegwarmers will continue... and that I now have to go to Target.
Later!

Funny, I was thinking the exact opposite. Thank goodness the DPCIs are the same, so that I still have time to return extra figs and great news that I can find these at Target vs. having to drive to a WM or TRU. ;)
-
Looks like this wave is showing up at Target!
Source?
Was this the wave due out on 1/30?
-
Go to Scum...on front page
-
Now my Target stores will all FINALLY stock something, but it will all be Wave 5 Vintage. ;)
They've not put a new figure out in quite some time. Months I'd say.
-
This probably means no new SKU for vintage
The few reports that have come in so far say they are ringing up under the 087-06-1351 DPCI.
I'll add myself to the "that's a bummer" group - I was hoping they'd clear out the 1351 dpci so I could pick up some nice fodder on the cheap before they rolled out the new stuff with a new DPCI. Now, if that number is staying, I have to get annoyed because my local Target has 6x Cloud Car Pilots and 3x AotC Troopers warming the pegs, which will probably keeping me from seeing the TPM stuff anytime soon there. ::)
-
My Target has had the same sandtrooper on each peg, and one or two empty pegs, since they cleared off shelves. It's pathetic. Though the one bright spot for me is maybe they've been waiting for this?
Yeah, I doubt that too.
-
Is this case even up for order/preorder on bbts or EE? I do not see it. I'd just order a case or two for sure.
-
Is this case even up for order/preorder on bbts or EE? I do not see it. I'd just order a case or two for sure.
this is what I was wondering too. I pretty much want all of the figures except for like 2 - and I could exchange those two at Target for something else easily.
-
Isn't it more than a little unusual for a wave to be round at retail before online sellers even have a case up for preorder?
This is weird.
-
Saw this way first hand on the pegs. Hard to pass up as they look fantastic, but I think it's time to leave the PT behind.
-

This is weird.
I wonder if it's a situation similar to the 1st wave of Indy figures. Retail had such a demand for those at the time my online retailer order was canceled because Hasbro was shipping everything to retail for an expected rush in demand. In this instance I'd take a guess that Hasbro supplied the entire wave direct to retail first to make sure the shelves had product for Christmas and didn't even give online retailers an option to offer it. It's a stretch but it's possible. Odd though since you'd think most retailers like Walmart and Meijers would have a backstock of past waves at their warehouse/stockroom because they couldn't restock pegs due to the warmers. I know I've had luck the few weeks before Christmas in the past where a really old wave of stuff got stocked because a box or two was found hiding in the back.
-
Found remnants at Target today. Maul, Battle Droid, Naboo Soldier, Dofine, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Only snagged Maul and the Battle Droid since I figured I'd see the others again at some point. (This means they'll be HTF so get em when you see em!)
Oh, they rang up at $8.99. Well Maul did, the Droid didn't ring up at all, confusing my elderly cashier. So she scanned Maul twice. Thought I might get the dreaded DO NOT SELL but luckily that wasn't the case.
Plastic crack i tell you.
Me all this week:
"Yeah, I think I'll cut back, less figures for me, etc."
Me today when I found new stuff:
"GIMMEGIMMEGIMME"
::)
-
Didn't ring up? That's interesting... Not typical for Target.
-

Yes, this is the crack I was referring to. Irresistable.
-
Didn't ring up? That's interesting... Not typical for Target.
Initially, none of the Revenge figures I found at Target rang up in their system so I got them all for the sale price of $6.99.
-
I don't think I ever ran into that at Target, but often at Wal-Mart and K-Mart.
-
Anyone got a review on the new vintage battle droid yet?
-
Didn't ring up? That's interesting... Not typical for Target.
yeah not typical, but from the past two Marvel Universe waves half of one wave didn't ring and all of the latest wave (Psylocke wave) didn't ring out
-
Saw more of this wave at Target this morning...Maul seems to be the first to go.
-
I nabbed all 10 of the figures I wanted from the TPM wave from the Mishawaka, In Target this morning. I left Obi and Qui-Gon
-
Still nothing here. Story of my life with TVC anymore.
-
I was able to pick up most of this wave from Target today as well. Still missing Palps, as well as a couple of others, but I did grab 8 of the twelve from the wave. It was strange having so many new figures in one wave like that (and expensive), but it does look like a pretty strong group of figures overall.
-
Still nothing here. Story of my life with TVC anymore.
Same story here in Memphis. Still debating an online buy.
-
The Naboo guard is another good head swap for the rebel fleet trooper.
-
I just read on RS main page that Curto got word from Hasbro that the street date is still in effect
-
I just read that the new TVC Deluxe sets have been spotted at a Walmart in CA, so Hasbro can stick that street date up you know where. :D
Street dates are just ridiculous...they should have abandoned the whole idea long ago.
-
1999, 2002, and 2005 were my least favorite years of collecting since the restart in 1995, due to the HEAVY focus on the prequel film of that year. It took years to get away from that formula, then we get a Clone Wars line out of new media, which again takes away from the traditional OT releases. Finally, Hasbro dumps the themed wave idea this year, after having some composed of nothing but Prequel characters... then we're back to the goddamn prequel themed waves again due to the 3D release. Actually, it's more like a midnight madness than a themed wave because of the sheer quantity and focus. Maybe in 3 years when I'm less interested in collecting, I'll see a heavy focus on ANH 3D.

TPM wave now appearing all over Australia stores.

That's sweet. Nice "Character Debut" stickers on the bubbles...I wonder if that will be the same for the states.

Yes. The Character Debut stickers are on the US cards as well (even the Naboo soldier despite being released before in the original TPM/E1 line. :P )
-
That's sweet. Nice "Character Debut" stickers on the bubbles...I wonder if that will be the same for the states.
Yeah, the stickers were on the packaging at NYCC.
-
I've already decided that I'm going to peel off all the character debut stickers at the store and stick them on Darth Maul.
-
I've already decided that I'm going to peel off all the character debut stickers at the store and stick them on Darth Maul.
That's committing fraud! :P
"I thought I was getting a debut character, but it wasn't! What's Hasbro gonna do about this? :'( "
-
It'll make someone's bitch list, somewhere.
-
ok so we get a SA Doltey Dofine aka Stunted slime - great; now how about doing the same for the two MOST prominent Neimodiens - Nute GUnray and Rune Hako?? Nute had speaking parts in all three Prequel movies so he is a Must Have!
-
Nute should be deluxe figure with his walking throne.
Yeah, right...like they'd gamble on a $20 Nemoidian.
-
I'm actually surprised they went with Daultay. I don't mind too much as he's turned out very well, but I would have thought they would devote a slot to a more visible character - even maybe Tey How, who seems to be on more people's lists. Basically I'm saying I wanted a new TPM 3-PO.
-

At $10 a pop, and the way the line is anymore, I kinda hope they spend their tooling $ on, well, less of a tool than a Neimoidian... No offense, Rune.
I like weirdoes as much as the next guy, but the way the line is priced now I just am really not interested in a figure if I think what I have of him is pretty sufficient. Catch me a year or three ago and I'd be a little more interested in the more prominent Neimoidians getting figures redone... Now, yeah, I'm ok with what I have. As it is, Daultay Dofine's going to be a tough pill to swallow, and he's super articulated with cloth robes.
-
Picked up Daulty and Anakin today - at Wal-Mart... wow, Dofine is amazing.
I'll be buying several of him. Hasbro really gave this character the royal treatment. I hope they do the same for Gunray within the next year.
-
In stock at TRU (http://www.toysrus.com/family/index.jsp?ab=TRU_Header%3ACharacterTheme%3AStar-Wars%3AHome-Page&categoryId=2274249&s=A-ProductAge&view=all)
-
Thanks Scott.
No Rats Tyrell, Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan yet. And Maul is out of stock. Limit 5 per customer. But I did get:
2 x Ben Quadinaros
1 x Neimodian
5 x Battle Droid
1 x Palps
3 x Naboo Royal Guard
-
That might be the way I go.
-
I bought the following online today:
Vos x 2
Maul x 2
Sidious x 2
Naboo Guard x 3
I passed on the others, I don't need to go crazy with these yet. Already have an Amidala as a gift I received from a Yakker for Christmas, and opened the Anakin and Dofine I got today at Wal-Mart - these are actually WORTH the price. If distribution is better this year, it could be a great year for vintage if they keep up this level of quality.
-
Did these wave 10 figures suddenly disappear from the toysrus.com website? It looks like TRU just took them all down.
That makes me wonder if order cancellation notices are coming next.
-
That would suck, but the good thing for me at least, is Wal-Marts in my area are already stocking these... one store today had at least 4 cases out. If my order gets cancelled, I guess I could head back up there and see if any are left.
-
Anyone got a review on the new vintage battle droid yet?
Well it took 2 weeks, but finally someone over at Rebelscum posted some nice shots of the Battle Droid:
http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1070055-23/ (http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1070055-23/)
It looks pretty nice, but still can't hold the blaster with 2 hands. So I will get 5 or so but not go totally ape**** like I would if it were done completely SA.
-
I actually got my shipment notification for my tru.com order an hour ago.
So the 11 wave 10 figures did ship, despite TRU taking the rest down.
-
I found the wave last night at Wally. Blown away by all of them. Maul especially. This is an instant hall of fame figure. Not perfect - the hood has been done better before - but the figure itself is easily one of my all time top 10.
-
I think I heard that Maul's belt is upside down.
-
It's on backwards. You can twist it around easy enough. I like the soft goods much more than I thought I would given the pics. Most pics made it look like this hot mass of shredded black, but it's actually pretty good.
-
I opened Sidious last night - his robe feels almost like spandex material.
-
I opened Sidious last night - his robe feels almost like spandex material.
I have been waiting a long time to get one of my Sith Lords into some spandex.
-
I think it is because he was still in emperor training mode - not yet at the height of his career, still aspiring for greatness and dressing the part...
-
For those of you having thoughts about army building the new battle droid, banish the thought.
He's about an inch too short and smaller than the human figures.
A few are good to have for crouching and firing positions, that works nicely, but by and large this figure should not be army built.
I also received and opened Ben Quadinaros, Daultay Dofine, and Naboo Royal Guards with the battle droids today from TRU.com. Got here in 2 days flat.
Ben Quadinaros and the Naboo Guard are awesome!
I will be posting pics by tomorrow.
-
Okay, here's the sitch with the new battle droid. He can do this which is cool:
But look at the height difference between him and the previous version that started in the Target Geonosis 2 packs and continued in the Legacy basic collection:
Also look at the battle droid next to the Naboo Guard. Also threw in Quadinaros for poops. So yeah the new battle droid is nice but is way too short. Would have been a decent army builder if it were an inch taller.
Here's some more Naboo Royal Guards after I did some head swaps. He swaps perfectly with the Rebel Fleet Trooper and Yavin Scramble tech guy. Also I think the Endor Rebel.
Also I do like the helmets better from the previous Naboo Royal Guard release so I mixed and matched those.
-
I forgot to add, I wonder how Hasbro can put the effort into a new battle droid mold for a vintage card at $10/each retail price, and absolutely and completely **** the scale up that badly.
That just boggles my mind.
-
Received my order from TRU today... I never received a confirmation email though, which I was surprised by.
-
I wonder if Hasbro made the Battle Droid smaller to fit into an MTT, kind of like the Kashyyyk Trooper being so small to fit into the AT-TP.
I found three cases at a local WM tonight, so I nearly completed the two sets I was seeking. These are some great figures. Reminds me of why I still like collecting these, sixteen years after that first wave of POTF2. :)
-
What's that, you guys found the new TPM wave?
I found a bunch of yellowing Wave 5 Clone Troopers. :'(
Seriously though, I'm putting faith in Hasbro to clear out the undesirables, being it's a new year, to make way for the new waves. COUGH COUGH *READ THIS HASBRO, PLEASE* COUGH COUGH.
-
Found this picture to illustrate how the previous battle droid releases were actually the correct height:

That right there makes it 100% clear that I'm glad I didn't buy any of this new version. Thanks for the pic.
-
Perhaps the other character figures are just scaled too tall? :D
-
ANother site claims the previous battle droids were a bit too big. Maybe...but this one looks too small, though.
The rainbow color on the royal guard helmet is a bit like making a stormtrooper with the carbon Freezing chamber light reflection painted on.
-
The Battle Droid looks a tiny bit short, but that screen cap is deceiving. Some of those Battle Droids are more in the foreground than some of the other characters, and that makes them look taller than those characters who are further from the camera. And naturally, the handmaidens are on the short side.
There is only one Battle Droid head that is close to a Naboo Royal Guard which might give a clear indication of the true height of the Battle Droids compared with an average adult male character. In that case it looks like the Battle Droid might be 3 - 4 inches taller than the Naboo guard. Based on that, I think the height issue with this new Battle Droid is negligible. And if you think that we're going to see ANOTHER Battle Droid resculpt within the next 2 years that would correct this height discrepancy, I think that may be an overly optimistic expectation.
-
I'm thinking about sculpting and casting replacement thighs to correct the height issue.
-
Small issues don't bug me too much. BIG issues bug me. This is a big issue. I didn't even need to stand the battle droid next to any other figures when I took the first one out of the package yesterday, I could tell it was tiny right away.
-
Yeah, and somewhere I thought I saw a comparison of this battle droid next to the other versions... this new ones reminds me of a Pit Droid... I'm happy with the previous sculpt... heck, even the ROTS version works better for me.
-
I can probably get passed the height issue, depending on if he's as gummy as his predecessors. For those that have him, how is the plastic quality? Does this one actually hold together pretty well?
-
Short eh?
I just picked one up this weekend, and at the inflated price? Piss on that. He's going back to Target.
-
Looked the comparison picture over DR, and man is that a joke... I'm not 100% with you on the Stormtrooper helmet issue, but I am on the Battledroid one. This thing's a stinker.
And I honestly don't see it as an improvement at all over the last ones we got in the 2-packs in Legends. :( I thought those were alright. Perfect? No, but in that 2-pack I was ready to army build those forever.
-
I hate the BDs anyway and not this further adds to it!
-
He is significantly less gummy than the previous ones, so that's a plus. He's a head smaller than he should be, which I didn't notice/mind until I saw some of the pics here. I do kind of like this one though, even if he's the runt of the litter.
-
Well that sucks. I haven't opened mine yet, guess I should contemplate returning it (spoiler: I won't)
-
Battle Droids are listed as 1.91 meters tall which is about 6'3" tall. That's above average and this new one is anything but that by the looks of it. The fact that it's $10 for one when we were paying $7 for 2 just a month ago is also pretty ******.
E...
-
I think the new Battle Droid has a great sculpt and proportions. The limbs on the 2009 Battle Droid appear to be way too long. I do agree that the new Battle Droid is way too small. Ideally I would like to see a Battle Droid two pack using a larger version of this new sculpt, but I doubt it will ever happen.
-
The fact that it's $10 for one when we were paying $7 for 2 just a month ago is also pretty ******.
E...
This is what bothers me more than anything. I really don't give a squirt about the height, the cost of these damn things is getting out of hand.
-

Same here. That price / value differential between the Saga Legends 2-packs of Battle Droids compared to the single packed new Battle Droid is a tougher pill to swallow than the height issue.
-
Ask Hasbro about it and their responses will be:
"We'll look into it."
"We believe that the Vintage Collection Battle Droid is accurately scaled for Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace."
"There are no plans to revisit the Battle Droid with newer tooling in the forseeable future."
"The SAGA LEGENDS Battle Droid 2-pack was a special treat for fans, but rising production costs mean that future Battle Droid offerings will be single carded."
-
I think this battle droid sucks. Seen one loose now in person, and really feel like they screwed up on this one. They should have just gone with the taller mold, with a new head (with sculpted eye sockets).
-
I saw this wave (each figure x2 I believe) at our local WM today. They also had the first wave of "Movie Heroes", but no sign of CW or the Discover the Force stuff (or any vehicles, etc.) All three lines were ringing up at $8.96.
-
I bought and opened the new Darth Maul vintage figure today and pretty much hate it. The neck is sculpted leaning forward too much, I hate the face sculpt, his chest robes are sculpted like he has some super saggy C cup boobs and to top it all off the right elbow joint is frozen on my figure. Hate the spaceballs hood too.
Anyone know a fix for the frozen joint at least. I bet Jesse James responds first!
-
boiling hot water?
-
boiling hot water?
Brute force did the trick. I did get a Zabrak horn dent or two in the process.
-
Stuck joints run them under hottest tap water you can muster (boiling is maybe overkill but it does the trick too as per smash's suggestion)... That's what I use. You can snap the pin on ball-joints easily using brute force so beware!
I'd have said something earlier but life's in the way these days. :-\

Getting back to the new Battle Droid...
Has anyone tried folding up the new Battle Droid to get it into the storage position as seen here:
I know there are some gripes about the new Battle Droid design. But is it possible that the design of this new Battle Droid was predicated on it being able to fold up for storage like this so that it might work in conjunction with the upcoming MTT? I've got a few Battle Droids, but I haven't had a chance to crack these open yet in order to try this myself.
-
Yeah folding it up basically works pretty well. Being that they are $5 with the BOGO coupons I did pick up 4 more just to display folded up.
If this droid were a little taller and had ball joined elbows/articulated wrists, I would probably get 100 of them.
But I wouldn't call this the definitive battle droid just yet.
-
I understand the height issue you've got with the Battle Droid. I think if we can get some photos of the new Battle Droid figure folded up, then this new design might start to make a lot more sense. Especially with the impending MTT release.
-

Seems to be more common these days, like the Rebel Commando. Maybe it's a realistic posture for actual people, but I'd rather have the heroic default of a straight neck.
-

No battle droid is definitive until it can stand on it's own, indefinitely, without the legs warping.
Does this one have that potential? Because on my shelves, the only thing that CONSTANTLY falls over, are the battle droids. I hate them.
-

I believe this one does have the potential, it uses a sturdier ABS plastic.

Agreed. This battle droid has 2 or 3 significant issues, but the sturdiness of the legs does not seem to be one of them this time around. It feels pretty solid.
-
Got all of Wave 10 tonight, and I'm not seeing the "superiority" in them. :-\ Comment more later when I have time I guess but they're cool. Just not THAT cool.
-
As far as a wave of figures goes, it's been a l--o--n--g time since we got basically 10 new figures in a wave... I think that has a lot to do with my view of "superiority" of this wave as compared to most anything else we've seen in at least a year. The closest thing we've seen to this in a while in terms of newness and quality overall is probably Wave 3 and Wave 4 of TVC. And for that, I think this wave is very good and one of the few ones I've seen even worthy of an online case order. It would have been even better if they had fashioned new head sculpts for Qui Gon and Obi Wan... or packed second heads of them... one of Qui Gon with hair messed up from fighting, and one of Obi Wan's NOOOO!!!! (http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2011/10/25/star-wars-phantom-menace-obi-wan-3d-no.jpg)
-
That I agree with for sure, but it's a line launch so I sort of expected it too. It's just been a while (or at least feels like it) since a wave was pretty much solid "new". That's a positive no doubt but Wave 2 will put the lid on that ultimately since there's only 5 new in that wave. :-\
I think the quality is on par with much of 2007 onward though, at least on an individual figure basis... and it falls short in many ways in terms of accessories, prices to a degree, availability (TVC in general), and accessories/extras for sure. In some other ways it excels (fabric use, "super articulation" basically being the standard).
-
Yeah, and I think they put more effort into Wave 1 for 2012 than the initial ESB wave that launched TVC. The only true stinkers here are Obi Wan and Qui Gon (which are good figures, but I went into TRU today, which had no less than 12 cases of this wave on Sunday, all that's left now are about 10 each of Obi Wan and Qui Gon). Why Hasbro didn't do something "new" on those figures to make them stand out a bit more is beyond me.
What scares me more than anything though is it looks like both Waves 2 and 3 are going to be bombarded with more of the TPM wave repacked. Why they can't select some other good figures here and there instead seems crazy... I believe Obi Wan and Qui Gon are supposed to be carried forward in Wave 3 for example - a smarter move would be to repack Jaina and Jacen Solo with TVC artwork/packaging. But nope, they're not doing that.
-
I think this wave is loaded with "newness" simply because they have been stockpiling TPM sculpts for this relaunch. Instead of getting two-three TPM Waves spread across 2008-2010, we get a whole bunch of new stuff saved up and dumped here. There are what, ten new figures in this wave PLUS the four over in the Walmart wave that will be re-issued on Vintage cards later in the year.
That's like 14 new vintage figures, which would have otherwise been spread out over four waves over the past four years. We'll have to see if AOTC will get the same treatment or if things will settle down a little again...
-
Plus probably a hefty TVC TPM wave later in th eyear I'd bet Jeff... The Jar Jar, maybe a Panaka, maybe a slave Ani, etc. Later in the year could be pretty packed with more TPM resculpts though, and maybe some reissues like Maul that are bound to be decent sellers throughout the year.
-
Agreed. This battle droid has 2 or 3 significant issues, but the sturdiness of the legs does not seem to be one of them this time around. It feels pretty solid.
The only issue I have with this BD is the main back pack does not stay on too tight. I only opened one of my 10 as my collection is packed up right now. I hope its a specific issue with the one I opened. I really love this figure otherwise and it very screen accurate. when you compare him to the Target Arena Mold it looks like you are comparing a Quick Draw Clone to a VC45 Clone. It's a night and day difference. (The old BD blaster looks like POTF2 gun size proportions too. Never noticed how over sized it was until this one.)
-
Okay, I think I've gotten everything I want from this wave, although I haven't had a chance to open any of it yet. I'm up to 3 each of the Naboo Soldier and Battle Droid, thanks to that TRU sale. I figure if I'm going to be paying $9-10 a pop for Battle Droids, I might as well get the SA version, regardless of the height issue. Amidala is a statue, but thanks to the TRU sale I got her for free. I also am hesitant to buy the podracers, they just lack that "bang for your buck" IMO. But if my TRU had any of them, I would have bought them and gotten another army builder or something.
Sidious and Maul are definitely the hot sellers here, as I've only seen each once (when I snagged them). Anakin, Q-Vos, the Podracers and Amidala are hit or miss as well. Dofine, Qui Gon and Obi Wan are always lingering around.
-
Around here so far I'm noticing:
-Battledroids
-QGJ
-OWK
-Padme
These are the figures I've seen the most so far, with the Naboo dude and podracers next, and Sidious then, and then Maul/Vos seem to do really well and are tough(er) finds.
Seems to me this'll be getting worse though, going forward, due to the crummy repacking of TPM stuff steadily.

Hmn. Would be nice to see these showing up anywhere around the twin cities. They've made a round at most of the Walmarts I think and a few Targets got them weeks ago, but after calling around it looks like the 50 Targets in the metro all have the same "back ordered" gray dot on the tags. ::)
-
This wave showed up tonight. First vintage wave I've seen in Canada since wave 4. ::)
-
So I'll rub it in then that I got a set I guess and give some thoughts...
-Face w/Limbs... Actually a decent figure, just a horrid design. I still am curious how he poops. He's articulated nicely though, but features no foot holes for a stand so that could be a little problematic as he has tiny feet. Mine's standing ok thus far though.
My figure's paintjob is pretty cool and I noticed he has these ear pieces that are translucent and show his ears through them. Not sure why, but I assume this is accurate and it's kind of neat. He sports a silver pistol and a droid, and I like that he has the droid at least.
-Neimoidian Guy... I have to admit I do like the face a good bit. It's better than, certainly, the 1999 Neimoidians, and it's sculpt is a tad better than the Lushros Dofine figure. The removable hat is nice, the articulation, the softgoods... It's a decent figure, just boring from head to toe ultimately. I can't say I really care if they update any of the old ones. I'm ok with what I have there.
Paint aps on mine are nice on this guy, but nothing too spectacular. Love the elf shoes.
-Ratts Tyrel... Disappointing, to say the least. The paint aps are ok, and I am alright with the accessories (hat, pistol, pit droid with a nice dirt wash on it). Where I'm disappointed is, this figure has no knee or elbow articulation, and depending when/where you got him you may have paid a premium, but even if you paid $8, you deserve a little extra articulation on him.
I'm disappointed. Who knew the face would be a better podracer figure?
-Padme... Can't even bring myself to open the package right now because I'm debating taking her back. My sample is a crisp clean paintjob, that's good, but saltshakers make me question the purchase anymore.
I got the Outlander Padme in Wave 4, but refused to buy a 2nd to display with the other hat till I could get her cheap, and it paid off. Padme figures just don't thrill me ever.
-Naboo Soldier... One of my favorites. The sculpt is pretty crisp, the articulation's great, the helmet's a little snug but works, the holster is functional and the new Naboo pistol is great.
My only gripe on him is the paint aps. I got 2 Naboo Soldiers and both have the hair paint bleeding onto the face a little bit (I noticed paint bleeding and straying all over the place on every figure in the wave utlimately... some worse than others, some in more noticeable places than others, so look over paintjobs if you have time and multiple figs to pick from). Also the rainbow on the helmet is really bad, and a step down from the original figure he's based on. Whatever paint they used was much more realistic and didn't have this "light effect" on it. That rainbow is just horrible.
-Sidious... Pretty cool figure all around. Other than he can't really be posed with the hood on so you can have him look different directions other than down (or so it appears), he really is nice.
Are his hands re-used from the Evolutions Palpatine? They're very wrinkly and old looking, and don't match the character's head. That's my only gripe with him ultimately.
-Maul... Not opened yet. I'm waiting on him, but from the packaged figure I don't believe he'll be disappointing at all. Some gripes on the headsculpt that I've read, but honestly I'm content I think. He looks good to me except that his saber lacks any paint details, which tons of his old figures have nicely painted sabers. That's a bit irksome.
I noticed some paint washes on figures like the Naboo soldier... Nice to see. Just wish that, when they do actually do paint aps like they used to do, they didn't do them sloppy. Those hairlines that got messed up were very noticeable and at this point things that used to be more of a nitpick are now a glaring mistake IMO.
Skipped the battledroid. I won't buy something underscaled at this point and price. I'll stick with my old droids that are the proper height.

One thing that I noticed locally, aside from TRU, that it seems like places where this wave hit early (Target and WM here) haven't gotten any more for the "big launch". That whole thing seems to be tied more directly with the movie heroes stuff, and to a lesser extent, CW. I guess that is ok in a way though, that the TVC line is operating on its own maybe a bit more. I've been fortunate in that I have what I wanted from this wave already, so I don't necessarily need to see it pouring off the pegs either. Looking at Movie Heroes, I'm wondering if those will be moving for awhile now.

JJ, the hands are actually a new sculpt. The arms and legs are the only reused parts. The arms from the Evo Palp and the legs from the VC Senate Duel Sidious.)
FYI - On a sdie note I picked up the Target Sidious Maul pack because they changed the paint on Palps skin tone and it looks the best of all of the realeases.

Yeah, I'm hoping they release the taller SA version again, with a paint application like they did on the IG-97 (http://www.rebelscum.com/TLCcomicpacksWM101.asp) droid... with a Battle Droid head though of course. Preferably with sculpted eye sockets too.

The Blue Ray commemorative version is the closet thing to this. I am dumping my 14 on eBay as they are just too flimsy. The Saga Legends Maroon one had sturdier plastic, consistency Hasbro consistency...
-
Yeah, I bought two of the EPI Blu Ray sets, mainly for the Battle Droid.
-
Thanks JACK... They looked familiar, but I guess they're not. But they're oddly wrinkly for that age of Palps... I'm guessing they'll reappear for ROTS Palpy figures?
-
Hrm. What does this graphic say about the size of the TPM Vintage battle droid?
-
To be fair though, they did seem to get the blaster size right.
I'll live with oversized blasters over undersized figures though.
-
Of course I can't find the one figure I truly wanted from this wave....Maul ::)

I feel you, man. I finally gave up looking in retail for Maul and just asked my cousin to buy it for me online as an early birthday present. >:D

If those future waves that popped up online before Toy Fair are any indication, you'll find one eventually.
-
Finally got Maul. Great figure all around, 9/10 score. The head sculpt I really didn't mind at first, but now I'm starting to get slightly irked by it. I can't tell if that's a slight smile on the head sculpt, but I think he's supposed to have some evil grin, which I would have been fine without. The horns are slightly too chunky - I didn't think I'd care, but I guess I do now.
-
Just a thought, I picked up the new Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan with light up sabers from the Movie Heroes collection. The headsculpts are great but their outfits are perfectly colored like the films. Obi-Wan has while pants and Qui-Gons outfit has a more egg while yellow tint just like the film. The current legacy Style Obi has grey pants and the Qui-Gon has robes that are too white. With all of the re-releases of these two why would Hasbro not update/improve the colors on them in at least on of the lines like DTF? I would have re-bought both of them in a heartbeat to upgrade!
While the MH light up guys are a little bulky they are pretty cool. The headsculpts appear like they will fit on the existing versions too. I cannot dig mine out yet but I will surly try....

Maybe you should wait until you're in a better mood. ;)

Ordered Sidious on Amazon for $3.05 (excluding shipping) and got Maul instead (already have him). Decided to keep him as mint carded for display. Don't know why I found this relevant to post, but these days I seem to buy figures only once a month now for a multitude of reasons. ::)
-
I haven't been able to open many figures this year due to a lack of space and no time to expand my shelves, but I opened a Battle Droid this weekend and I love it. It's a little small, yes, but I can overlook it since it's the same height as most other figures. The only other complaint I have is that it can't hold its blaster with two hands.
Can't wait til this wave is finally clearanced, I'm planning on snagging as many BDs as I can, along with the red repaint from Legacy Wave I
-
Picked up two Vintage TPM Battle Droids at TRU, taking advantage of the BOGO sale over the weekend. Pretty much all they had worth buying, figure wise. People hate this figure but I love it, as it's a great figure that fits in with every prequel movie. I'm up to 9 I think, pretty much all of them purchased with some type of TRU BOGO. Good to finally have a decent sized Droid army to fight the bajillion Clones I have.
-
I'd have been happy if they made it the proper height... That was really my only gripe. I liked the last sculpt though... It's pretty equal IMO. I like the smaller blaster though, and just wish the figure were taller. :-\
-
...and a smidge stiffer, they flop over if you set them up for any amount of time
-
Mine, all the Legends ones at least, are all 100% fine... They all stand as well as the TVC droid does.
There was a rubbery one with no eyes in the Geonosis 2-packs... That one blew.
The Commemorative Tin tan one was a little gummy too.
-
You mean the Blu-Ray 4-pack one? Yeah, it was a tad gummy.
I've passed on TVC Battle Droid because of compatibility concerns. At BOGO, I'd probably bite the bullet if there was anything there I really wanted...
There's been so many battle droid sculpts now. I saw some Boomer damage ones on Ebay from a seller in China and then looked and noticed their hands are in "stap rider position" and wouldn't be very useful...at least i think. Never owned that release.
-
they are ALL gummy compared to the Rad TPM ones
-
My 2-pack ones aren't... They're as sturdy as the new one is, if not a little moreso since I think the feet might be slightly larger too. Didn't really compare that.
The POTJ one is nice, especially for one being killed mid-boomer, but he's not a horrible stand-alone droid either. He requires a little hand repositioning though, as I like posing mine holding their blasters 2-handed. A little heat/freeze and he can hold a blaster properly.
-
I've had zero problems getting my Vintage Battle Droids to stand, in fact I say they're even more sturdy than the TPM ones from 1999 (I only had one but it was hard to stand... it could but not for long. Still eons better than the ones made in the '00s). The height could be better, yeah, but it doesn't bother me. They still look good swarming Grievous.
My one complaint would probably be that it can't hold its blaster with both hands.
-
TPM ones from 99 are nice but their biggest issue was the lack of articulation MADE them hard to stand. That's why the 2-pack ones using the Geo 2-pack sculpt worked so well. You could find that balance point with them, or at least I can.
I have a lot of TPM 99 ones because they're good filler and I can reshape the arms pretty much.
-
The inability for the VC Battle Droid to hold the blaster with 2 hands is a deal breaker for me. That's just inexcusable at this point in time.
-
I have about 20 2 packs and about 10 TCV battle droids, and when I say floppy i dont just mean the material, the joints themselves are really loose, especially the hips shoulders and ankles for some reason.
-
Warmer the temperature the more loose the joints get, especially the ball socket hips and shoulders.
Still better than those old Legends 2 packs that were made using that AOTC era deluxe C-3PO battle droid. Those things warp so easily that they are close to useless and were one reason why I didn't buy any battle droids for like 10 years.
-

For a moment there I thought you were talking about yourself.
-
Maybe...I am feeling old lately. ;)
-
livin in Alabama
you may be on to something
As its cooling down this week, I might just break out my rusty Rogers and see how they hold up
-
I actually have the figure of Darth Maul. It's nice they gave him a double-bladed lightsaber that actually splits in two.
