http://www.deathstarplans2.com/
It's the first time I have actually heard of it being in the rumor mill. Sounds cool if it is true.
-
still doubting until i see at least something like this at the jd homepage or RS. Entertainment earth would even appease me :P
-
Nice rumor and I hope that it's true, but I highly doubt that Hasbro has the balls to make an entirely new scuplt, plus one that's so big (not as big as we all would want though.) With the re-released AT-AT coming with new deco, I can't see the AT-TE coming out anytime soon. At least not now.
I do like the fact that Cody has a background image of the AT-TE. Gives us hope I suppose, but do you remember the Cloud Car Pilots?? I thought for sure that Hasbro would re-release their vehicle in the OTC line, but no dice.
-
Ummm. Does anyone remember what tomorrows date is ::) Im sure there will be a ton of bogus info released.
-
I am going to be an optimist on this but it seems like there are always going to be people out there who want to have a gloomy attitude towards things being made. Sure it's going to have doubters, but how about a little positive thought? And April 1st isn't until Saturday.
I don't care if it ends up costing $200.00. It's worth it to me. Man I hope this is true!
:P
-
Given Hasbro's history of releasing vehicles where they can use old molds (even from 1977 if need be), I seriously doubt this is true.
However, having said that, there sure are a lot of details in this report and you really have to wonder how it's so detailed if it's not true:
"GREAT news after speaking to many people at Hasbro a reliable source got an employee to give details on a forth coming AT TE, YES YOU HEARD. The Vehicle will be 2 ½ feet long with moving legs. The rear will open up to reveal a moulded interior which will include seats for some clones. As for firepower the ball turrets will be similar to the Gunship and the roof mounted turret will fire a missile and rotate, finally somewhere to put that AT TE gunner. To go in the opening Cockpit two figures will be packed in Ala AT AT; these will be a Clone Pilot and a Clonetrooper. Also mentioned along with more of what were getting already were more Choppers, expect certain troopers and a Jedi. Thank you to our informant for this news. To discuss this amazing news join us in our forums by clicking the image."
Like CHEWIE, if true, and if it's even $200, you can put me down for 2-3 of these for sure.
-
Oh Dressel, you are so naive. ;)
Anbody can write descriptive copy for a toy that doesn't exist.
As well, why would the said AT-TE not incuded an AT-TE gunner? The story mentions Clone Pilot and Clone trooper pack-in figures.
-
-sigh-
False hope... :-\
-
I can see this not being true of course. However, if they wanted this to be an April Fools Day joke why post it on 3/30 when there are 2 full days of March left? Usually people pull their pranks on that actual day.
-
I hope this is true, not only because I want it to be made, but to also get people to start being a bit more positive once in a while. Negativity gets you nowhere. If we keep saying there is no way they'll make it, then why should they make it? What incentive is there for them to make it if the collecting community already has a negative attitude about it?
As for a pack-in, who knows. If they don't pack in the AT-TE Gunner, I'm sure that will be fine. A pilot sort of makes sense and a regular trooper totally makes sense. The Gunners just sit on the top anyway, don't they? Plus that figure was available all year last year. Not that other clones weren't too, but pack-ins aren't really relevant I don't think when talking about a huge vehicle such as this. They can pack in Nute Gunray and Watto for all I care!
:P
-
I'm just come right out with the negativity, gloomy attitude towards this ::) :P. It will get me nowhere? I think not! If(even though I think it's a joke) it turns out to be press released by Hasbro as true, then I'll buy it definately. If I buy something that I didn't believe would come true and was GLADLY proven wrong how did that get me nowhere?...hmmm? The timing for this IS suspect to say the least. ::)
-
Doom and Gloom... what a positive way to look at things. Just kidding. What I mean about getting us nowhere isn't directed at one collector, but how it can affect the community overall. I think we need to be positive and show support for things like this if we want them made. Just my way of looking at all things in life. Maybe I'm not always realistic, but I think one should set goals or you settle for less. I never have been the kind of person to think They'll never make that, There's no way I can do that, Oh that's just too hard to do so why try, etc.
I totally understand that it seems like they'll never make this though. Same goes for the Sail Barge and a number of other larger items. I just like keeping my fingers crossed and supporting the notion of a few larger scaled toys to be made. Dreaming about what you want to have in your collection is what this hobby is all about to me.
:P
-
Ummm. Does anyone remember what tomorrows date is ::)
March 31?
???
-
I guess I look at it realistically like gambling. Since there's no press release..would I get my hopes up(bet) about NOT a sure thing yet? However, TRU's clone wars gunship WAS an official press release so I could more safely 'bet' on that.
True, nothing is sure even after press release a product could be cancelled, but that's far less likely...
Like you said,Chewie, it's realism. 8)
-
I can't wait to play with this next to my $400 6 foot Death Star Playset.
-
Slothus, you are right. Odds are it is just wishful thinking. But I'll keep my wishing on it.
Did you guys ever see the AT-TE that Coeli made?
I'm sure nothing Hasbro would make would match this, but it sure is fun to imagine. :)
:P
-
No, that's the first I seen it. That's really fantastic! Yeah I doubt Hasbro could build one with THAT much detail and to scale too! NIce job Coeli! Thanks for the pic Chewie..now that I know that's NOT what we're getting IF we get one.
-
Yeah, he did such a great job on it. It's stunning and really is the best custom vehicle I think I've seen anyone make. Last summer he sent me a CD with about 50 hi-res pics of it. I edited some and used them for the Rykrof Enloe photonovels and need to get my tail in gear on the series with some more pics of it.
:P
-
WOW! That thing is fantastic~
Now even if the big H does make one, it will fall short of my hopes.
-
Well I guess that every vehicle has fallen sort of my hopes, at least the bigger ones have. Maybe just the new TIE Fighter, the Y-Wing, the SAGA Landspeeder, and the larger scaled X-Wing are about the only ones that really are how I'd like for them to be.
:P
-
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see one made, but I'm sure RS or GH would have the scoop on something like this before the smaller guys. No offense deathstarplans....
-
Well 2.5 ft long does not sound to bad to me. It's a toy and not a prop replica to scale of the 3 3/4 inch figures. It will probably be something like the Jawa Sandcrawler in terms of a toy scale. I know people hate the scale on that thing but that's what it will most likely be. It would be better than nothing at IMO.
-
Well I think that it's very possible that another site can beat RS or GH, or JD to news. All it takes is a leak to somebody who knows someone who is a staff member of a site, and that site will report it first. Yakface was the first "big" site to report the VSTC figures showing up at a Walmart in January, and that was days before RS mentioned it at all. I don't think GH or JD even mentioned it? Bigger isn't always better. As Yoda would say, "Judge me by my size?" ;)
Anyways, I agree Darth Broem, I'd rather see it made with an off scale than not made at all. The people that think it shouldn't be made if it isn't 100% to scale can pass on it if they want.
:P

Reasons to hope;
It's possible that Hasbro has had the tooling for this since Ep II, with a release time for the toy, in relation to the movie, similar to that of the royal starship to Ep 1. The mixed success of the RS and the abundance of product for Ep II probably led to production being cancelled. I suspect that the Genosian fighter and Hailfire droid were tooled up for Ep II but were put on hold for similar reasons, and Hasbro took the opportunity of the Clone Wars cartoon to release them. I could be wrong, Anakins starfighter was a new design which proves they are willing to do some new tooling in a non movie year. Perhaps with lingering popularity of Star Wars, the real lack of new vehicles this year and all our whining and pining for this vehicle, Hasbro has decided to blow the dust off the tooling, roll the dice, and find a brick-and-mortar retailer to carry it.
Reasons to despair;
The AT-TE is one big vehicle requiring some heavy-duty tooling. If Hasbro doesn't already have it available I find it difficult to believe they would invest in an AT-AT type of project in a non-movie year. Perhaps if there were a media event like Clone wars, or a big anniversary it might have a shot. But UGH? Come on, they dragged their heels on getting out the sandcrawler and Imp shuttle, and the tooling for those already exhisted.
Oh yeah, BTW, does anyone know where I can order a couple of these beauties?
-
Ummm. Does anyone remember what tomorrows date is ::)
March 31?
???
Damn you beat me to it. ;D
-
I want to say that RS or some other site said that Hasbro did mock up an AT TE back during EP2. So it wouldn't surprise me that the tooling might exist, nor would it surprise me that they would consider releasing it. The line is still hot, vehicles are back on the shelves all of a sudden, and maybe they think they can get away with a big money toy at Christmas.
I hope so, anyway.
-
I am sorry but this rumor is way to close to the 1st for my taste.
Besides Hasbro has bad luck selling big vehicles in non movie years. Not that they sell all that well inmovie years anyway.
-
Ummm. Does anyone remember what tomorrows date is ::) Im sure there will be a ton of bogus info released.
Bunsen Burner Day
When : Always March 31st
Bunsen Burner Day celebrates the birthday of its creator. German chemist Robert Wilhelm Eberhard von Bunsen was born on March 31, 1811. And, you guessed it, von Bunsen created the Bunsen Burner.
If you are a high school student, you know all about the bunsen burner. If you work in a chemistry laboratory, chances are you use the burner in your job. If its been a while since high school chemistry class, the memory of the bunsen burner may have faded somewhat.
In case you memory has faded, the Bunsen Burner is a long, hollow tube. Gas and air are combined to create a hot flame. The burner is used in a wide range of scientific and laboratory projects.
Spend a few minutes today to appreciate the value of this important scientific tool. We will let you determine how many minutes to spend in reflection.
-
That is really cool. I did not know that. I am an Entomologist and I teach graduate students and we use the bunsen burners a lot. ;D
-
Darth Gamboa - Great post. I love seeing someone show a couple of different scenarios like that rather than "It will never happen" or "Yeah sure I'd buy it." Thanks for your thoughts!
Another thing to think about though I think, is that if it were made I don't think it would be out until 2007... and if the TV series comes out next year, surely there will be AT-TE vehicles in it. Might be the signature vehicle of the TV series line, which I think will be coming for sure.
:P

This is all speculation, therefore, not real reasons.
There's no proof(no hasbro press release or Hasbro panel Q/A answer) that shows this was EVER in the works. There has, however, been many times when something either posted on front page or in forum at rebelscum was proven wrong. Just because RS says so doesn't make it 'golden news' in my eyes. IMO folks are naive if they believe something just because RS says so.
On that note I would like to see a press release soon from Hasblow about clearing this matter up so we could clarifty the title of this thread(and...I can buy one ::)..or not)
--Urb >:(

I think I remember Colman asking about this last year at Comic-Con and the response was a flat out no. But they also did say that "there are no future plans to make Commander Cody" as well. So who knows. With Hasbro putting out a $80+ repaint of the AT-AT we "could" see this in the near future.
-
I don't know, this info sounds a bit too fake to me, particularly that 2 and a half feet long part. It just doesn't sit right with me for some reason. I HOPE that we get an AT-TE, or at least one that's to scale with the AT-AT or something. I could see Hasbro releasing something around that size.
-
The scale is what throws me off...2 1/2 feet? I dont think so, on the other hand we have been asking for one for quite some time so who knows... ???
-
Well let's for the sake of dreaming act like it is coming and really get worked up over nothing. It's 2.5 feet long. How much would that sucker be? And do you think it would be an exclusive or at all the retail chains? I am guess it would be an exclusive at the near $200. I would guess StarWarsShop.com as the initial carrier.
The more I think about it it's most likely not true, but what the heck it's that site's funeral if untrue. It's a bad, bad, bad joke if that is what that website is pulling. That will piss quite a few people off from that site. Then again I never heard of that site until now so maybe they needed to get some attention? I won't be laughing if it was all a prank. Misinformed I am fine with. An intential prank? Not cool.
-
Darth Broem, I agree with you 100% and usually always do, have now for years. :)
Let's say that speculation is right - it's 30 inches long. How tall would it be then? 12-15 inches? It would still be very underscaled, but at the same time it would be the absolute "must have" Star Wars toy of the year. It's not a Royal Starship that is a woman's weaponless ship (which is still a great diorama piece) - this thing is a freaking killing machine! Imagine all the battles you would center your playing around this as a kid! Or setting it up in your dioramas as an adult! Or photonovels! Really, I want this to be true. $200.00 does sound fair for this. I remember a long time ago people saying they might pay $40 or $50 for one... are those people really serious? Doesn't sound like they want one to me at that price!
So, yes - at $200.00, I'll take two of them. One for a Geonosis diorama, another for Utapau. I think there is still a window of opportunity here that Hasbro can capitalize on. Since the vintage days, I don't think Star Wars has been any hotter than it has been in 2005-2006. If they're gonna do it, the time is now.
:P
-
I don't think Star Wars has been any hotter than it has been in 2005-2006. If they're gonna do it, the time is now.
Hell yes!
Say it like it is Chewie! :P
Hasbro should capitalize on this before things possibly go down the tubes.
-
. But they also did say that "there are no future plans to make Commander Cody" as well.
Sorry MJ but that statement about Cody is BS. I'm the one who asked Hasbro at the CC last year why they hadn't made Cody yet-and what was their plans for him. Jediscar was sitting right next to me when I asked them.(can you believe 10 questions went by before I got to ask that?) Any way, they answered that 'they had BIG plans for Cody' and that they really liked him'
And THAT my friend is BS...what, we've seen him in a cartoon 3 pack and a single carded?... I don't call that big plans ::) And, yes, Coleman was up in the front row asking several pesky Q's but he didn't ask them that yet.(about Cody)I think after Colemans' 3rd Q they were sorta looking around him :-X ;D
Either way their statement didn't match the result. Still, if I hear they're making it(from them) then I tend to believe it. I think the AT-TE would be a good Q to bring up again at CC this year if it isn't resolved by then.
-

Those poor guys had to deal with both of you guys at the same time?
Oh, as they say -
" :P"

Well I guess I was wrong. Oh well.
-
I have a strong feeling that any AT-TE that Hasbro would make would be a dissapointment when compaired to Coeli's.
-
Well to be honest no matter what Hasbro puts out there people are going to gripe endlessly about it. That is a given.
-
Yep! Hasbro cannot make a vehicle to scale for a price that people won't gripe about in the end. If this is in fact not an April fool's prank then Hasbro will make an AT-TE similar in size to an AT-AT with a 100 to 150 dollar range. If it is a bit better then it might be $200 FAO thing.
-
If it is a bit better then it might be $200 FAO thing.
FAO went belly up, no?
-
Personally, I think its a case of delusions of grandeur. Based on forum posts over there, I'm not entirely sure the reporter is playing with a full deck. I need proof not leads.
-
I need proof not leads.
Ozzel :P
But yeah, I guess we shouldnt get out hopes up about the At-Te before it is absolute.
Besides, it would probably be underscaled and would include a small pack in of a bloody deluxe clone or something crapy.
What i would like to see though is if it could hold 2 cw/saga speeder bikes in the back.
-
If it is a bit better then it might be $200 FAO thing.
FAO went belly up, no?
I think so...There used to be one at Old Orchard outside Chicago that closed a few years ago and another closed in South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. The only other one I knew of was in Caesar's Palace, LV and I haven't checked up on it in years, so it's quite possible they're all gone.
-
AT-TE, blah. Bring on the Juggernaut instead Hasbro!
-
There used to be a FAO in Dallas as well. I believe there's only 1 left oddly enough and that one is in NY city?
Mannn..those Faamba's were expensive :(
-
AT-TE, blah. Bring on the Juggernaut instead Hasbro!
That would be just as good! ;D
-
AT-TE, blah. Bring on the Juggernaut instead Hasbro!
That would be just as good! ;D
Nah. It would be much better.
-
So, was this an April Fools joke or not. It would be awesome if it was true, but I think it may be a joke. Well, not even a joke, more like a hoax, since it's not funny.
-
FAO is down to NY and Vegas- Not a likely outlet for anything anymore.
-
For all those that didn't hear yet, this was indeed a lame early April Fools joke... ::)
-
For all those that didn't hear yet, this was indeed a lame early April Fools joke... ::)
Now, if you gain office, will you promise that we'll never have lame April Fools jokes as such?
Kevin
-
I think that was a bad move on DSP2's part. It'll really put their credibility in question in the future. Oh well.
-
Geeze. I'm not going back to their site again after that. Lame getting people's hopes up like that.
:P
-
I have to be honest, it was pretty obvious that it was a joke all along.
-
I guess next year I will start making pranks 2 days before April Fool's Day. That way I can assure myself of fooling some people. Heck, I might as well start fooling people a week ahead of time. It will be soooooooooooo funny and clever.
-
Could this have also been a publicity stunt to put the spotlight at this lame reincarnation of DeathStarPlans? I mean, before this thread, I had no idea there was a DSP2. I'm sure there are many here who were the same way.
-
If you go back to the RS thread, the second post is me saying; if it sounds to good to be true...
-
For all those that didn't hear yet, this was indeed a lame early April Fools joke... ::)
Lame's putting it lightly. Jokes made on the 1st aren't all that funny, especially if you're over the age of 10.
-
It could have been a lame publicity stunt, who knows. I just think it sucks. This is something I would expect from a 9 year old that had been huffing fumes. Totally ridiculous. I emailed him about it and he apologized, but I still think it's just plain asinine. Usually I am very forgiving - this is one of those cases where I am not. I'm embarassed that I posted it on the front page at Yakface.
Edit - I do realize that this was the doing of one person's attempt at a joke. So I won't boycott the site, but I am still pretty annoyed that this happened. It's one of those things I guess I shouldn't have believed, but I did.
:P
-
I can understand all the people that were pissed at this, but really any news posted around this time of year, I dont believe a word of it.
-
Well just for the record. I did not 100% believe it and marked it as "yep it is coming." But a lot of times these kind of websites do get the word out looooooong before Hasbro ever even mentions it on their website as fact. So, I treated it as a "possibility". It's not like these type of websites don't get early scoops. It happens fairly frequently. Usually it's Galactic Hunter and Rebelscum and once in a rare while JediDefender or SirStevesGuide. Also, it is not like I am a tremendously gullible individual that believes everything that is on a news site of any sort is indeed fact. Just a possibility and something to discuss.
However, if I was running a website like DSplans. I would be darn careful about what I post on the main page as a joke. Unless of course it is actually April Fool's Day itself. In this case it was 2 days beforehand. So, it sounded somewhat believable...not likely but you never know?
At any rate it's not coming. Oh well. I am fine with it. It's not like it's breaking my heart like the Cubs do every baseball season!
-
Actually, SSG hasn't had much of anything to say for a long time, and we've been quite competitive with the other "big" sites in GH and RS for a while... Sometimes we break news before they do and they get it later, sometimes they break news before we do... That's neither here nor there.
Sometimes the small sites get a story too and it's good. DSP2 I expected to not do this...
To be honest, this is lame for a number of reasons, the least of which is that it isn't even really a "joke". SW.com, the official site, has a real april fool's joke... Something outrageous and unbelievable that people still scratch their heads over. DSP2 took a story people have been cryin' on forums about since 2002 and shoved it in their face with a big middle finger if you ask me.
I don't know the reporter that did the joke and I didn't even visit their site about it... It was "near' that time of year so I just didn't care enough but to read what anyone was saying IN HERE about it. That was all I'd heard... Finding out it's a lame attempt at humor doesn't then surprise me, but at the same time I'm disappointed in DSP2 posting something that actually is a little spiteful almost towards the people who want the thing... And that's not even me. if it's underscaled I don't want it and if the pack-ins were new I'd have been first on the bitch list. I'm more disappointed FOR the people who actually did want it. Just because I don't doesn't mean I begrudge people their happiness... I just want what I want more and first. ;D j/k
Anyway, sorry to those who did have hopes up on any level... What are ya gonna do though? Scum's had some lame ass April Fool's Day jokes out there folks, so don't think that this is something ONLY Death Star Plans2 would do to you to dick you over and make you think something that isn't true.
For credibility, DSP2 is no more credible than RS or anyone else, but they basically shot themselves in the foot with this story on gaining the "trust" of people out there who don't know them... That's where they made their biggest mistake in this gag or whatever it was.
Personally I agreed with Darth Anton's words when I read them... I kind of figured it was BS and it was, but man that's a fast way to annoy a lot of people.
