Other Collectibles / Danglers?
« on: April 6, 2004, 12:19 AM »
Anyone collect these stupid little items?  I just bought four on ebay to go with the Tie Fighter and Sith Infiltrator I already own.

I picked up the Death Star, Millenium Falcon, X-wing and Destroyer tonight.  I think I overpaid, but I don't see them often on ebay and all four from a single seller.

I'll find some pics, but is anyone else quite so loony?

Not sure how many folks here are into these on a limited basis, but thought I would put a list up of stuff I'm unloading.  My cost is $11.50 US which accounts for our horrendous taxes.  If a price is listed otherwise, it's in Canuck bucks.

I'll happily trade for stuff too, so just ask.

Modern Trading / Anybody need a doombot?
« on: March 24, 2004, 05:22 PM »
I have two (well, three including my own).  They are both bilingual/bilogo (french and english).  One is with the poster (more common to Canuckada) the other is with the comic (like the US version).

I have no doubt we could come to an agreement, I collect too much crap.  I'd love a red skull but that might be setting my expectations too high.  LMK if you need it and we'll chat. ;)

Watto's Junk Yard / Are you a Hitchcock fan?
« on: March 21, 2004, 12:43 PM »
I always have been but seem to be getting into it more and more of late.  Stayed up last night to watch Frenzy and was moderately impressed.  It's been said before but Hitchcock was so far ahead of the curve in scaring/shocking people, but for the most part, without gore.  Frenzy is another good example of this.

I expect most people have seen his more common movies (Vertigo, Psycho, The Birds) but are there any fans that have other favorites that didn't achieve such notoriety?

I vividly remember watching Psycho for the first time in the campus bar during my first year of university.  Very old movie, even at that time, but still managed to scare a lot of the patrons in the bar.  We mostly laughed.  Twisted 18 year olds, I suppose. :-\

Granted, I am crossing into LOTR territory, however....

Elven Names:  Caranbor/Caranborion

Hobbit Name:  Tom Brandybuck from Haysend

Dwarven Name: Lim Orcbow

Orkish Name: Thrakuk the Bad-Moon

Hmm, get to start a new one.

Jeremy was kind enough to help me out with a Tour Animal for cost and shipping only.  A far, far better deal than I could find anywhere else, so thank you kindly.

Shipping was super quick and it was packed very, very well arriving in perfect condition.

Site Feedback, Suggestions, and Help / Computer freeze up??
« on: February 2, 2004, 04:27 PM »
Ok, bear with me here, I'm 99% certain it is my old clunker of a computer that is causing this.

The situation: certain pages on varying boards/web pages lock up my computer.  Ctrl/ALt/Del doesn't unlock it.  The only thing that gets it going is to hit the reset button which requires a complete reboot and MS scan of ye olde tugboat-of-a-computer.

Two pages on here currently are doing this:  Marvel Legends latest page and the Saga thread TRU finds or whatever the real title is.  I also have the problem consistently with the Galactichunter main page (I know, not your problem, just for reference sake) and have from the get go.  I also have problems over on snowtroopers.ca but I finally figured out it is something in the script of G3PO's sig.

I primarily use IE for surfing as I find Nutscrape to be unstable.  It is an older version 5.x?

So I'm wondering if anyone can help or suggest anything?  Outside of a new computer that is.  I plan on getting one, but probably not until summer.  So I'm stuck here for a bit.  I've defragmented and done all the usual virus scan stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Watto's Junk Yard / Sick of scalpers
« on: January 1, 2004, 09:05 PM »
I am seriously tired of people going on Star Wars and other toy boards and blatantly scalping stuff.  There are people on other boards that are asking double + for current figures.  They rationalize that it's to help pay for their gas.  Well sorry, but some of those prices pay for the gas, lunch, breakfast, dinner and a couple of movies in addition to their kids college tuition.

Now, I get an email back from a guy who posted about a 12" figure I've been looking for.  No responses to his thread, I email the guy this afternoon and he sends back a message indicating that someone else is interested in it and hints strongly that it will go to whoever pays more for it.  In my email I offered his asking price.  Basically he wants a bidding war for his stuff.  There's a perfectly legitimate place for that, it's called ebay.

Sorry for bitching but I've just had it with guys who think they're doing me and others a favor by grossly overcharging for toys.  And no, it was no one from this board.  Frosts my..... >:(

Watto's Junk Yard / The Great 2004 collectors challenge
« on: December 30, 2003, 11:58 AM »
What, you ask, it that?

Well, out of curiosity I want to know what I (and others) spend in a year on toys.  If you wish to participate and perhaps frighten the hell out of yourself, please feel free to join in.  If not, no worries.

Here's the deal:
Keep track of every penny you spend starting on January 1st.
-Anything that is in transit does not count.
-If you've paid for and shipped your end of a trade prior to that date, it doesn't count.
-If you have paid for something (item in hand) and are still in need of shipping, the shipping costs count
-for Canuckleheads, customs fees (taxes +$5.00) count, if applied to a trade of international origin
-preorders count if your credit card is charged after January 01, 2004
-travel charges (i.e. gas, bus, etc.) do not count as they are too intangible to keep track of (you're welcome Matt)
-all toy lines, collectibles, etc. that you collect are to be included - Master replicas, vintage, display cases
-fees for entrance into conventions do not apply nor do associated travel costs - it is presumed you would go anyway, but costs for items purchased at these events are included

These rules are welcome to be ammended as they are likely not complete.  I expect keeping track in this thread is the best idea, though it may lead to divorce ;)

Anyone up for it?

« on: December 15, 2003, 12:58 AM »
Ok, I looked twice.  Can't believe there's not a thread here.

Anyway, my fellow McFarlane Sportspick nut and I finished off one trade and are just waiting for my end to get to him on the second.

Great communication, fair deals and excellent packing.  A pleasure.

Vintage Kenner / What's the difference between...
« on: November 25, 2003, 10:49 PM »
Nikto's battle staff and Yakface's staff?

Looking through the action figure archive, they look awful similar.  Is that accurate or was there some creative license/error in the photos?  I wouldn't be surprised to see the same weapon for both figures as that seemed very common through the vintage line.

Nowhere near acquiring a Yakface, but wondering if I should snag two complete Nikto's?
