Power of the Force 2 / Ah, history
« on: July 1, 2003, 11:55 PM »
I keep finding old stuff around my house (no, nothing really good) and I seem to have been buying Wizard for quite some time and have lots of issues around.  It's pretty entertaining reading old stuff like this, historical if you will.

During my favorite reading time today ;) I was looking through issue 55 (March 1996) and came across the following article.  Not sure what the JD site rules are for copyright, so mods can edit as they see fit.  I won't put quotes around it as it is too long and will be too difficult to read that way.

From Wizard 55 by Dan Albaugh

An exclusive offer for a Star Wars action figure of Han Solo in a Stormtrooper outfit is currently available on specially marked boxes of Kellogg's Froot Loops cereal.  The Solo figure is available from Kellogg's in exchange for two Froot Loops proof-of-purchase UPC symbols and the official order form.  The offer exired on December 31, 1995 (or when supplies were exhausted).  The figure is limited to one order per order form and five per mailing household.  The secondary market value for the Han Solo Stormtrooper is $20-30.

Kenner has also released a four-pack of original Star Wars figures, crafted from the old figure molds.  The re-issues are identical to the originals and include Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker.  The set of four retails for $19.95.

Some hobby retailers expressed concern that the new Star Wars line might have a negative effect on the sales of figures and accessories produced from 1978 through 1985.  "Such has not been the case, " claims retailer Ken Lawrence of Heroes Unlimited in Oradell, N.J.  "The new line hasn't slowed sales on older pieces at all.  I wouldn't say the new line has sparked significant interest in older releases, but it hasn't hurt."

Of the new Star Wars line, Princess Leia and C-3PO have taken the lead as the most actively pursued figures.  C-3PO was a late release and is now valued at $12-18.  There was a rumor in the hobby marketplace that Kenner was displeased with Leia's appearance and planned for changes.  Not so, say Kenner sources.  Her figure is currently an easy $15-20 sell.

According to retailers in the know, three different Star Wars case assortments have been produced.  Assortment #1 contained no Leias or C-3POs, three Han Solos, three Luke Skywalkers and two of each of the remaining figures (Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi, Chewbacca and R2-D2).  Assortement #2 included no C-3POs, two Leias and two each of all the other figures.  The most recent assortment features on Leia, one Kenobi, two C-3POs and two of everyone else.

Star Wars releases slated for February include Han Solo (Hoth gear), Lando Calrissian (Cloud City outfit), Yoda and TIE Fighter Pilot, along with Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber and a Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper.

Other Collectibles / Lightsaber pens?
« on: June 15, 2003, 02:10 PM »
Anyone have these, from cereal last summer?  Five released I believe, Mace, Luke, Vader, Dooku and Anakin.

My daughter has taken a real shine to these mini flashlights.  I might be needing some replacements so this is an underhanded way of finding out who has them ;)  I like them quite a bit.  Pretty cool cereal promo.

Anyone know if the batteries can be replaced?

Vintage Kenner / Good auction or not?

Reserve is too rich for me at this moment in time.  $250

Good deal, bad deal, otherwise?  Figs look ok, he has them displayed nicely.  Vinyl cape Jawa.  LMK what you think.

Feedback / Dain_Bramage's feedback

Dain hooked me up with a buddy to get the Yellow DD.  Our second trade, but the first since I've been over here.  Completely cool transaction.  Packing, communication, etc all first rate.

Let it go people.  You know who I'm talking to in general.

If you like it here, cool, excellent, super.  You don't like what goes on at RS, stop going there. ::)

You don't see the problem with comparing moderators to people that killed 6 million Jews, get your head checked.  That or simply grow up. >:(  It is not, nor will it ever be a valid comparison.

You are making it difficult here and frankly, IMNSHO are doing your best to drag this place down too and that pi__es me off.  I rather like the lack of juvenile behaviour over here.

To Chris and the admins here, keep up the good work.  If this post is not suitable, please feel free to delete it.  I won't be bothered in the least.

Vintage Kenner / New To Vintage Collecting? Some Tips!
« on: June 9, 2003, 11:22 AM »
Thinking about getting into vintage.  Figs only for the most part (though now that I remember, my Rancor is actually the Vintage version :)).  To that end, I want to ask some questions of the knowledgeable folks.  Specifically I'll be curious about prices.

My goals are as follows:

complete loose figure collection, though not overly concerned about vinyl vs cloth cape Jawa for example.

not too concerned with the saber variations - eg. double telescoping vs anything else

not overly concerned about vlix or blue snaggletooth at this moment in time ;)

I think I will start with imperials, given my biases, so the first questions are:

Vader:  how many versions and reasonable prices (US bucks)

Stormtrooper: price?

vinty poster: price?

Links are helpful too, just point the way.  Always happy to have questions answered personally though.   ;D

Vintage Kenner / Sorely tempted to bid on this one
« on: June 9, 2003, 01:26 AM »
but didn't.  Now, did I blow it or not?  Some of those figures are throw aways, but a few seem worthy of the price.

Watto's Junk Yard / Coca Cola Classic - Caffeine Free?
« on: June 4, 2003, 08:30 PM »
Just found Coca Cola Classic in a caffeine free form.  First time I've ever seen it.  The taste is different, but hopefully it will grow on me.  I used to drink tons of Coke Classic, but the caffeine tore me apart.

Anybody else tried this stuff?

Watto's Junk Yard / American Film Institute Heroes and Villains
« on: June 3, 2003, 11:14 PM »
Not sure if anyone caught this on CBS tonight but it listed (apparently) the top 100 heroes and villains from films in the last 100 years.

Star Wars had the most nominees with four: Leia, Luke, Han and Vader.  I have no idea where the three heroes placed (couldn't find results on web yet, later) but Vader finished at #3.  He came in behind Norman Bates (2) and Hannibal Lecter (1).  Not too shabby.

Saga '02-'04 / New case assortments available online
« on: June 2, 2003, 04:11 PM »
Not sure about the sponsors of this site, but my regular online retailer has the following available today:

Collection 1, Wave 16
4 each of Anakin Skywalker Pilot,Scout Clone Trooper,Yoda w/ Hover Chair. ETA is June/July 2003.

Collection 2, Wave 17
(2) Waitress Droid, (2) Night Club Alien, (2)Darth Sidious, (1) Luke Skywalker, (1)Darth Vader, (1) Wat Tambor, (1) Colman Trebor, (1) Ashla and Jempa, (1)Archive Droid. Release is August 2003.

If anyone knows of details or pics of the figs, help would be appreciated.  I grabbed wave 17 as it should be easy to unload some of those duplicates.

Wave 16 is surprising to me.  Was the Yoda/chair figure that hard to find that it needs to be four to a case?  And Anakin pilot?  Huh?  Clone Wars?  Sorry, I know I should remember this, but I don't.  I'd be happy to have one Yoda, one Anakin and the four scout clones, but not so keen on trying to unload the remainders.  Anyone interested in splitting (Scott?)

Watto's Junk Yard / The Other Half and Your Collection
« on: May 27, 2003, 11:20 AM »
Alright, how many of you "sneak" toys into your house or perhaps just stealthily slide a new figure onto the shelf or into storage?  Does your significant other have a clue as to either the volume or the dollar value (what you spend)?

If you're not married and living with your parents, do you sneak stuff past them (much more risky to me than doing same with spouse)?

Watto's Junk Yard / Salsa. Mild, medium or hot?

Just trying to get a better image of you folks.

Me.  Medium for cooking with, hot for eatin'.  Yum ;)

The Original Trilogy / Next question, light saber colors
« on: May 21, 2003, 08:28 PM »
OK, as I understand it, the light saber blade color is related to the particular power source used for the saber itself.  This is related to the choice made by the Jedi in question.

The real question I have, and I'm certain it's been answered a million times before, but I'm just too lazy (comes with age) is why are Sith saber blades always red?

I know I should know, but I don't. :-[

The Original Trilogy / Where'd the AT-AT go?
« on: May 20, 2003, 12:21 AM »
ROTJ, Vader's shuttle is landing on Endor.  AT-AT can easily be seen slogging along in front of the landing platform.

Why wasn't it there to crush those pesky little Ewoks? ;)

Watto's Junk Yard / Pink Floyd
« on: May 16, 2003, 08:59 PM »
Is anyone else out there a huge fan of FLoyd?  I'm just sitting here surfing and the local rock station is playing the top 97 albums of all time.  The Wall came in at number 88 and I am more than a little apalled.  Granted, it's not hard rock as are the rest of the selections.

I love Floyd and have all of their albums.  The Wall may well be my favorite album of all time.  Anyone else like me out there? :P
