LEGO / Re: LEGO 2016 (possible TFA & Rogue One spoilers)

What I don't understand is why we're getting so many new designs, new concepts that were never seen in the OT when this is set right before the OT begins...

I don't mind that at all.  I like the designs.   What I don't get, is that we get these new designs adjacent to the OT, but jump 30 years into the future and the amazing new ships we got are...   an X-Wing,... and a TIE Fighter.   Personally, I think a couple piles of concept art got mixed up between TFA and Rogue One meetings.

Parts of it are new for sure.  I can't be certain on the base, but I recall the original launching arm had a hook, which you inserted into a hole in the boulders.  This one looks to have a net/platform that the boulder sits on.

Nicely done!

Nice!  I like how the Mon Calamari warns that they may be entering a trap. :)

Time for an update on the project.  It is becomeing more about the space as a whole than about the collection occupying it.
First, I thought I'd share some before and after of the old room.  It's quite a transformation.

Next, some pics of the new space as a work in progress.  I have yet to build shelves for the actual toys, but everything else is coming along.

View as you walk into the room

My work table

One finished display wall

TV, bookcase and storage nook

Most of the bigger pieces waiting for custom shelves.  The shelves will be 24 inches deep, 7 feet high and cover the 18 linear feet of the two empty walls.

Finally - 42 gallon ziploc bags of figures just sitting and waiting.

Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen it...

I got everything moved out of my old room, got all of the shelf bracket holes patched, repainted and, last night, started moving the office in there.

The bonus about all of this is that with each room I move, it creates an opportunity to take stock and get rid of old, broken, and irrelevant items. (I may even see my collection thinned out as a result.)

I'm going to have space for about 26 ft of shelving.  I'll probably go 4 tiers, so will probably custom build it.  I don't know yet if I will start making dioramas, or just categorize things.  Probably a combo of both.

I could have spent last night filling holes in the old room, left from shelf screws, in order to paint it.  After the last few days, I thought it more important to play Lego Batman on the Wii for a while instead.  :)

We have started Operation Re-Arrange the House.  My kids toys have gone from dollies to ipods so they no longer need the basement toy room.  Also, my wife has complained for a while that she has to share her scrapbooking space with the family office.

I developed what I hope is a win-win scenario.
1.  The kids lose the basement - they have another space now; not as much but more than enough
2. My collection moves to the basement - my space almost doubles; now I get my art/drafting table back as well as increased shelf space for all of the items that have been in mothballs
3. The computer moves to it's new home in my old toy room - instant office
4. My wife gets all of the old office for her hobby/side business

So this week, the move started.  Last night, I moved the last of my collection out of the old room and took down the shelves.

I filled 42 gallon bags with figures alone!!  They are safe in a low traffic area until I get new shelves built.  Finishing my room is the last priority in all of this moving, but I am motivated to get it all done now.

I'll post pics of the new space once it starts to take shape.

My girls made me a Han, Luke and Leia out of melt-a-beads last Christmas.

Nice to finally get a peek at the "training gear" that is coming with the Royal Guard.  I don't know if I can bring myself to call it "Crimson Guard" gear though Jayson, because it's not...  this is:

LOL!

Thank you! Someone else who gets the Fred reference!  WE had a CG this last weekend at CONvergence, and he had no idea what it meant when he was called Fred.

Great updates!  I like the use of the Prince of Persia figure for the Bob Fett.  Those figures actually had great sculpt quality and articulation.  I wish I would have gotten more of them for customizing.

Thanks! (blushing)

I agree with the names Phruby threw out - oh... and Sillof should probably be on that list too!  ;)

Thanks!  I'm am really happy with how Tat turned out.  I've been drawing him in one form or another for probably twenty years.  I tried making one years ago with a vintage Bib Fortuna, but was never happy with the results.  I wasn't sure how to use the new Bib head because I couldn't stand the face for this character.  I finally tried cutting the face off of Bib and glueing a Jerjerrod face on (yeah, I guess that sounds a little like something Hannibal Lector would do...).

Thanks for the feedback!

What do you use for paint?  I've been using Testors acrylics for years, but the color palette is not great, unless you want flat military or gloss auto colors, and they are getting harder and harder to find.
