Hello all.
I seriously hope this hasn't been debated already, as I did a search for this and didn't yield any results.
Anyway, there is some debate going on at (evil) RS about the color of Jedi Luke's cloak, and what color it should be when made.
Personally, I always thought the robe was brown like the vintage figure. It certainly CAN look black at points in the movie, but that is due to some serious backlight as Luke is entering Jabba's Palace.
Anyway, what is your take: black or brown?

It is clearly Brown in the movie. Not grey or black as many say.
-
It's auburn.
-
I say Brown too!

Hmm... maybe Hasbro should go the Hoth Han route here. Would you guys want both?
-
I always thought that it was black...I think that it is hard to tell simply because of the material that it is made out of...it could be gray, but I don't think that it is brown

I saw the Luke Jedi Robe at the Toledo Art Museum (Magic of the Myth) in person, and it is in fact, black. I believe I have a photo which I will dig up and scan. :)

I always assumed that it was brown.

I'm with Spuffy. Just give us both. If it's a soft goods cloak, throwing an extra one in there wouldn't be that difficult or costly for Hasbro to do.
I've seen it at a couple exhibitions, and thought it looked more on the black side, but this is obviously one of those things (just like Hoth Han) that looks different in different scenes or under different lighting conditions. I'm sure if Hasbro only gives us one color for the cloak (assuming it's cloth), we can just buy a couple, send the second cloak to our mom's in the mail, and tell her to dye it the other color so we can all be happy and have both! 8)

It's a tough question to answer. Because we never really get to see it in any kind of daylight. I would think that it's probably black, to go along with Luke's outfit in general. It may just be very sandy and dusty from his journey to Jabba's palace, and that might account for the discoloration. Perhaps a picture of it will surface in the Hyperspace section soon? Lucas is opening up a big photo archive for everyone to check out.

I will try to find my up close photo of it and post it. I can confirm that it is black.

I always thought it was the same shade as Luke's vest is... And made of the same material. It's his "Jedi duds". That's a lighter shade of black than his uniform, so I can see the illusion that it's "brown" being considered.
It'd be a faded black though instead I guess. It's definately lighter than his shirt and pants though, that can be seen clearly in the film... Unlike Han's jacket.
At least there's something we KNOW is black to compare with on this one. :)

I like Spuffy's idea. Make both colors like with the Hoth Han. I'll probably get several of this figure anyway to open (for dioramas and custom fodder), so the more variety the better!
:P

Why would it be brown when he has a black outfit. Talk about clashing ;)
-
Let's just not worry about it. It's safer that way :)

But I thought Jedi Robes were brown.

I've always thought that it's brown, but I could go with both colors like the Hoth Han. Hasbro should do this because they'll make more money. ;)
-
It makes more sense for it to be brown but if you have 2 robes as pack ins I won't argue...
Hasbro would probably repaint it and give it to us that way though...

According to the "Star Wars Behind the Magic" second CD, the color of the brown cloth vintage version was correct.
