Title: TLJ 3.75" Figure 2-Packs

Saw a lot of the TLJ line at Wizard World Chicago today including the 2 packs. The Rey/Guard set looks really nice and the sculpt on the Fett is solid. What struck me as kinda crappy was the Bespin Han - it's a repaint of the TFA Han which doesn't look good at all.

He may look wonky thanks to the paint aps, but this Han is not a TFA repaint.  He looks all-new; even different from the 2014 Bespin Han sculpt.

I did not have a TFA Han with me to compare, but from what I saw close-up the Bespin Han looked very much like a repaint. Especially in the head and arms. I did look up photos and I don't recall if the coat was the same, that may have changed. So perhaps it is a mix of new and old parts, maybe come Friday someone can post a comparison photo after they buy the 2 pack and we can see how it comes es out

Hopefully when we get some nicer high-res, it will be easier to tell, but it looks like he's all-new to me - TFA arms don't have the sleeve pockets; shirt is different, jacket/pockets are different, belt buckle is different, gunbelt buckle is different, hair is parted different...

Looking at the pic again just now makes me even sadder that this Han looks so cheap - guess the guy who painted the Rogue One 2-pack Poe was the one responsible for painting this one too. :(

Yeah this is a bummer for me too. Bespin Han is one of my favorite iterations of the character and was looking forward to this one. I'll wait to see it in hand, but still pretty pleased with the last one they did.

Yeah def a different sculpt there.  The pose is virtually identical though but I can't tell by that pic but it almost looks like the Bespin coat isn't a separate sculpt even.  I'm surprised at how virtually identical that pose is though.  The way the arms hang, the head/neck positioning.
Title: Re: TLJ 3.75" Figure 2-Packs
Post by: CorranHorn on August 29, 2017, 09:55 PM
I sit corrected, thanks for the comparison pic Jeff. Indeed, the sculpts are different but I think as JJ pointed out the poses are almost identical. So without having the TFA Han in hand, it was easy for me to think the Bespin Han was just a simple repaint. In the end, it's still a pretty crappy looking figure - seems to be the case with many of the OT 5 POA figures.
Title: Re: TLJ 3.75" Figure 2-Packs
Post by: Jesse James on August 30, 2017, 03:01 AM
Not just the OT even it's just odd misses here and there I've noticed.  Like the Poe in officer uniform, which wound up looking Eugene Levy to me.  And I held the Rathtar set in my hand and Bala Tik isn't too swift looking.

Yet what I have seen of Luke or the new Rey is great.  I thought most along Finns looked good, and while the stupid goggle issue on the old pilots sucked the sculpts were solid otherwise.

That Poe though?  That was laughable.  Got one cheap online but only to have that officer sculpt handy.

Bala Tik sucking kinda bummed me but the Rathtar looks cool and I liked them so I'm down for two or three.

I'm a bit more interested in getting the Rey VS Praetorian Guard set than Han Solo VS Boba Fett.  Mostly because it's something NEW.

As for Han & Boba?  The sculpt and paint apps on Boba Fett looks decent... for 5 POA.  As for Han?  Eh.  I think the POTJ Bespin Han Solo looks comparable if not better than this new version.

I just opened the Han/Boba 2-pack and while I don't normally care for non-canon ridiculous large accessories, I think the flamethrower back-pack that comes with the set to add to Boba is FANTASTIC. It has the ability to have Fett's regular back-pack and rifle click into the larger back-pack piece, the flames are nice and Boba's stance is well balanced and he stands with no problem wearing the backpack, the extra gear clipped on and his arms sticking straight out with the flames coming out of the gauntlets.

The Han is "meh" - but this backpack and fun new presentation of Boba made the two pack totally worth it for me.

Didn't buy any 2-packs but the guard looks nice, and so does Boba...  The big dumb guns are definitely and improved thing this year, and they appeared less big, and less dumb.  Still not my cup of tea as pack-ins go, but at least a step in the right direction.

I noticed single pack Rey is angry faced and 2-pack Rey is neutral faced. Is that right? Different heads or well, eye brows?

Different heads and varied paint operations for her eyebrows. Took me a while to detect the differences in the head sculpt, the most obvious difference is the slightly smaller size of the 2-pack version, plus the way the hair falls around the shoulders is different.

Oh - and the two figures have different phrases via the Force Link device.

The basic carded figures are made in China and the 2-packs are made in Vietnam.  It sounds like the same digital sculpt was used in both places, but slight differences occur in the finished product because of the subtle difference in manufacturing sites.

Means you need them both if you're a completist! ;)

Now a Rose 2 pack to peg warm!

Or not, people will get it for the droids.

Female officer body has appeal, since the only other option is the Juno Eclipse body.

This well sell, though I think the custom appeal of Rose probably takes a hit considering you'd be army building BB units too. BB-8 and BB-9 could have done just as well together on a card.

Yeah - definitely added the Force Link chip to these two. The big accessory will also have it's own chip if they follow the model they've got so far with the 2-packs. Also nice to see Chirrut get a more accurate representation of his bowcaster-like rifle.

If the Chirrut figure doesn't say "I am one with the force and the force is with me" I will be VERY disappointed.  ;D

Hugely disappointed that Baze and Chirrut are simple repacks (I know they have the Force Link thing now, but...) but I will probably end up buying them to get the light bow, right as Chirutt is announced for TVC.

Especially Finn.  One of his Stormtrooper buddies recognized him on Takodana.

My guess is they aren't infiltrating an FO ship or facility but trying to avoid attention when they meet up with a contact.

Ninja of Love and doppleganger?   lol

If you don't speak Hasbro code, the assortment is...
1x TLJ Rey (Jedi Training) and Elite Praetorian Guard
1x ESB Han Solo and Boba Fett
3x RO Baze Malbus and Chirrut Imwe
3x TLJ Rose (First Order Disguise), BB-8, and BB-9E

Yes.  These will be similar to Hasbro's TFA BB-8 sculpt and not like the Disney BAD BB-unit sculpt (which breaks up into 4 parts).

Another annoying question, are Baze and Chirrut the same as the Rogue One counterparts? Never picked either of them up, so this set is enticing.

No. Both have been slightly retooled to add the force link thingy.  Also seems to be some slight deco tweaks as a result of being made in China versus Vietnam (for Chirrut).  Also, the accessories are a bit different this time around.

And one that every person in the First Order recognizes immediately.  (Unless they explain it away that they removed a subdermal ID chip from Finn when he was recovering from his wounds) that allows FO troopers/officers to easily ID friendlies in the field of fire).

Another item EE has apparently saved from the Hasbro cancellation bin - now taking pre-orders for the TLJ First Order Disguise Finn & Captain Phasma (https://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HSE0624&id=JE-405087801) 2-pack.

Just like the two basic figures (C'ai (https://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HSE0524&id=JE-405087801) and Flametrooper (https://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HSE0521&id=JE-405087801)), EE is claiming this is an exclusive (which probably just means US exclusive, like the Rogue One stuff last year).

Yeah.  A real treat.

I have to wrangle at least another three collectors who want both basic figures and the 2-pack before we can get free shipping.

But what really gets me is that there was a change to Phasma's armor for the movie.  And that change was not captured in this set.

What Rob said, Nick.

EE eats that shipping charge if you used a free shipping code or the order qualified for free shipping.  That's why when I order, I always order in bulk.  I think it's $79 of in-stock stuff and there's always a free shipping code for any $99+ order I think, plus there's tons of expensive crap I order that just automatically qualifies (I'm looking at you Acid Rain toys).

I just ordered 2 of ARW figures and a clearanced pack of droids and it automatically gave me the free shipping.  Those were all in stock of course.

However, I've pre-ordered a ton of separate things in the past, like say individual figures and some upcoming ARW toys, and they all ship at different times, but I'm not charged shipping on them.

The checkout is goofy how it adds the shipping but subtracts it and things.  It's an odd way it does it in the checkout process, but it always works out to no shipping.

I certainly hope that's the case.  I like EE a lot as an online retailer, but I just cannot abide their shipping costs.  I've been selling off a significant amount of my surplus collection over the past year.  And plenty of my buyers are on the West Coast.  It does not cost me ANYWHERE near what EE charges to ship cross-country.

Shipping is where some of the moneys made.  I worked at a bakery that shipped across the country and we'd make quite a bit off a standard shipping rate compared to actual cost.  It was a wake up call.

I'm sure there are times when companies take real advantage of that as a way to hide markups, but to me that's just a charge for handling.

Someone has to box all that stuff up carefully, get it addressed... get it shipped... it's not an insignificant amount of work generally.

And if they didn't charge that, they'd just charge more for the products their selling.

Just to echo/confirm what Rob and Jesse said - yes, EE charges full shipping when the first item goes out (https://www.entertainmentearth.com//help/faq.asp?category=Shipping#) and then the other items will follow once available with no additional shipping charges.

when I order, I always order in bulk.  I think it's $79 of in-stock stuff

I try to do this now too. I use the 'wish list' thing to keep track of items I'm interested in and then when enough things are in-stock to get over $79 and get free shipping, that's when I order.  There are exceptions where I feel like I need to pre-order (like these end of the line Last Jedi figures), but most main line stuff I just wait for in-stock either at EE or Amazon to get my free shipping.

I do the wishlist on amazon too just to keep track of things I want.  With EE I’m usually either ordering in a group locally to get a free shipping order or I’m ordering so much or so expensive on its own that it’s just free shipping.

It’s funny that sometimes EE is cheaper on acid rain stuff than BBTS...  sometimes they’re the same too but rarely is EE more or more than $1 or something.  Same on the Hiya Alien/Predator figures.  I’m def gonna keep my case ordering options open on TVC with EE tho.  They are free shipping and at this point I’m too old tired and busy to hunt for this **** all the time.
