I thought I'd. . . uh. . . create a thread about concerts. Maybe list some of the concerts you've been to? Maybe discuss your favorite, or most memorable show? Maybe talk about a show that particularly sucked? And maybe talk about upcoming shows you're looking forward to, or what artists are still on your "must-see" list.
Here's mine. I think what I'll do is, list the headliner first, and then the opener last, if they were memorable. (Oh, and all of the shows were in Oklahoma City unless otherwise noted):

Best show was the last one I went to, PJ at Alpine Valley, it was one of the nicest days ever, taligating, great show, great seats...good time
Most memorable was the "Ice Bowl" Pearl Jam show of October, 2000...whoever thought it a good idea to schedule an outdoor night show in Wisconsin needs their head checked. It was 28 degrees when the band went on stage with Hats, Gloves...also a great show

Ah, I wish I could remember all the concerts I've been to. There have been hundreds. I will name some of the best ones, and you will be asleep before I'm done.
Just some of the memorable ones.
Sybil Vane: The first show I ever snuck into underaged. One of my friends convinced the guitarist to let us into the place, and because we couldn't drink we sat on their equipment off the stage and stayed very quiet for that night. It was very cool for me. At the RKCNDY in Seattle, which is no no more.
Mad Season at the Moore: (that show became the video and DVD) in 95 or 96. We met Mike McCready at an in store for the aforementioned Sybil Vane, and he put us on the guest list so we got to be in the second row. Very cool. Only time I ever saw Layne Staley live (and alive).
Super Deluxe and the Presidents at Moe in Seattle. What later became a Gay nightclub was a great concert venue. I remember going to this particular show because there was a big rumor the Foo Fighters were going to do a "Secret" set, but they did it the NEXT night. Man, we were mad. Still, Super Deluxe is always cool...and if you haven't heard them, go buy the CD.
+Live+ on their Throwing Copper tour. We followed them around the state, and it was a great road trip.
Sir Mix-a-lot and the Presidents at the Showbox. We saw them play a show together before they became "Subset". I have NEVER felt a concert floor shake as much as that one did.
Subset at about 12 different shows around Seattle. For about a year, when Sir Mixalot and the Presidents teamed up, they were one of my favorite bands. Why they never released an album is beyond me. It was excellent music.
Super Deluxe on New Years Eve in 1996. One of the best concerts I have ever been to. Seeing the band get drunk and try to do covers was great.
Weezer at DV8 in Seattle. One of three times I saw them perform at a smaller venue....but my first really bloody mosh pit injury. Mosh Pit at Weezer? Yeah, for some reason.
Foo Fighters and RHCP at the Gorge. Seeing Dave Grohl climb up onto the top of a building was kind of funny.
No Doubt and Weezer at the Gorge: In my top 10 concerts ever. I never left the front of the pit, and it was just amazing. Gwen is better looking in person than on TV, and they did the imperial march when they came in. How could I NOT love that.
EndFest 1999. I go just about every year, but this particular year was just really fun. Blink 182 and Everclear were the highlights for me. Oh, and as a sidenote, I have never seen more breasts at any concert in my life.
(no one probably cares about all this stuff, but I'm going to keep right on going).
Muzzle and Pris at dozens and DOZENS of shows. The first real act I caught in Seattle when I moved here. I've been watching these guys at various venues for about 8 or 9 years now. They've been on the edge, but never quite made it. Still great music though, and I'm probably going to see them again next week.
Super Deluxe, The Tycoons and Harvey Danger on Christmas Eve 1999. I think it was 99. Anyway, it was a REALLY small back alley club and they performed Christmas songs and a few of their hits. It seemed like at least one member from every Seattle band imaginable was there. Afterwards, I went and had a great Christmas.
REM at Bumbershoot. It wasn't the best REM show I've ever seen, but it was a great outdoor venue and a very nice night.
Super Deluxe and the Dandy Warhols at RKCNDY right before it turned into a dance club. The only reason this show was noteable was they had the retarded Real World kids at the show (they were filming in Seattle as you all know)...and they blocked off a whole section of the stage for those dorks to stage dive. What you DIDN'T see on TV is the little ******** getting booed right out of the place.
They Might Be Giants at Bumbershoot. We got to participate in one of their giant Conga lines, which is always amazing. My favorite TMBG concert so far.
The opening of the EMP. Oh man. Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Beck, Metallica, Matchbox 20, Subset, RHCP, No Doubt, James Brown, etc...etc..etc...
3 days of rock, rock, rock. It was just insane. Oh, and I also saw big nasty Paul Allen chilling with Gina Gershon, (he even let her introduce a band). What a whore. :)
Letters to Cleo with Sponge: The one and only time I ever saw Cleo, one of my favorite bands of all time. Seattle radio wouldn't play them, but they came anyway. Kay Hanley is off doing solo records now, so I don't think they'll be back, but that remains one of my favorite shows of all time because it was the only time I got to see them before they split.
Suzanne Vega at some little Theater. This was one of those "Win your way in" performances. My girlfriend at the time got free tickets, there were about 100 seats (all lounge chairs) and it was just excellent. Remains the most laid back and "romantic" concert I have ever been to.
Tenacious D at the Paramount. Those guys just crack me up. The first time I saw them, they were opening for Weezer and I had no idea they'd be so good live. This time, they were the headliner, and their show was just SO much better. Great guys.
Michael Jackon's big Reunion show with his brothers in September 2001. Whitney, Britney, Destiny's Child, Macauely, Corey Feldman, Tito and Marlon Brando. All in one building. Yes, I flew to New York for this with my girlfriend. The scary thing is, I tried to change my flight out to the morning of September 11th (So we could stay and see the show on the 10th) but the penalties for change were too pricey, so we flew home on the 9th.
We did manage to visit the Twin Towers on the 9th though. I took lots of pictures, and they were gone before I ever sent the film in.

Finally, Every Weird Al show I've ever seen. Weird Al remains my favorite artist of all time, and I've probably seen him play about 20 times. His show is always great, always funny, and it's just a great time. There's always new stuff he adds, but you can always sing along to the old stuff. I can't wait to see him again this summer when he finally comes to WA.

Ticket keepers, I'm guessing. I've kept quite a few tickets, but not all. I'll check later at home. Mine go back pretty far though. I think my first concert was Nazareth way back in 1976. Alice Cooper came through town at that time as well. I really started going to more concerts starting in 1979.
Notable concerts were Styx and the Guess Who reunion tour (V1.2). Probably the two best live singers I have ever seen/heard were Dennis De Young of Styx and Burton Cummings from the Guess Who. I've heard plenty of awful singers over the years.
The most interesting historical concert I ever went to was Metallica, around 1981 in a tiny little hall called the Playhouse Theater. Maybe 1200 people total, every single one wearing black except for me. I was wearing a jean jacket. Oops.

Most recent show, Fiend Fest with The Damned/ The Dickies/ DI/ Balzac/ Agnostic Front, and I won't even go into the Suckfits, because we didn't stay for them. Project 1950? How about Project Kiss My A**, I aint wasting my time. The Damned and Balzac were excellent, as were the Dickies, though. Fun show.

Two of the shows I went to had Bu$hleauger and I heard no boos...that song has some of my favorite lines on Riot Act

I went to the Oz Bless America Tour (AKA Merry Mayhem) when Muddvayne opened up. Rob Zombie was the best act, stage wise. Pyro, People in costumes, Cars, Hot chicks, anime porn on the big screens, scary @$$ showmanship, and rocking music.
Ozzy had a great set up, but he still had a bum foot, so he wasnt getting around much...we had a 12 minute guitar solo, and then he came back. Pretty awsome.

Going to see KISS/Aerosmith this Mon... my first time seeing KISS and I have loved them since I was 5... I'm 30 now...

Man, some of you guys have seen a lot of really cool shows. Not much else to say but "neat".
My most memorable show is (and probably always will be) my very first one, seeing Guns N' Roses when I was sixteen. Memorable for a few reasons--the first one being that it was GN'R and at the time, I was an absolutely huge fan of theirs. Listened to them non-stop, had their posters all over my walls, etc. So to have a chance to see my favorite band as my first concert was just amazing. The light show, the incredibly loud music, the girls walking around dressed in next to nothing the energy, was something I'll never forget. I've got a really good bootleg of it on CD, and I still go back and listen to it every couple of years--it's fun to relive it like that.
It was also an interesting show because of the opening band, a then-unknown band out of Chicago named Smashing Pumpkins. I had only heard of them at school, the day of the show, but had never heard any of their music (they had just released their first album, Gish, the year before). So, I really didn't know what to expect.
Anyway, the lights dimmed, and they came out into this tiny, roped-off area of this huge stage, and proceeded to totally suck. They sucked, their music sucked, and the crowd hated them. The crowd started throwing stuff at them, and in turn, Billy Corgan started mocking the state of Oklahoma--how it was just a bunch of cowboys and indians, and backwards, and all this stuff. As you can imagine, the booing got even worse, and Billy started to talk about how they worshipped Satan, and all other kinds of things, after which, they were booed off the stage. That is still pretty much the worst reception I'd ever seen any one band get in all of the shows I've been to.
A year later, the Pumpkins released Siamese Dream, and I reluctantly bought it, after hearing a song or two and reading a bunch of good reviews about it. For some reason, I felt like a traitor or something about it, but I instantly fell in love with the album, and the band that I helped boo off stage went on to become my favorite band of the latter half of the decade. That was about the same time that Guns N' Roses fell off the face of the earth. :)

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of going to concerts that close together. The Bon Jovi show was pretty good, although I have to admit I'm really only a fan of their 80's stuff. That show wasn't anywhere near the experience that PJ was though!
There was a bit of booing at times during the show and Ed was heckled (told to "shut up") while expressing his views at one point, but the news reports of the show gave the impression that there was more booing and mass quantities of people that walked out on the show. I saw a handful of people head for the exits, but nowhere near the numbers implied by the reports.

Hey, I saw Bon Jovi too. Not by choice, but because that was the only taping of Saturday Night Live I've ever been able to get into. Had to be honest with that one. It was the infamous "Joey Buttafucco" episode.

I havn't been to that many concerts but recently I got to see Springsteen @ Giants Stadium.
Being a life long Bruce fan, but never being able to see him in concert, this was definitely a dream come true!!
We have relatives in NJ, so we all went down there this summer, and they treated us (Nadine and I) to the concert.
It was awesome!
Being that close to NYC while he sang Empty Skies was definitely moving, there were people in the croud in tears.
I will never forget it.

Fins to the left....
Before Saturday, there were only 3 bands that I have to see before I die, Jimmy Buffett, the Rolling Stones, and Rage Against The Machine. I know they're broken up, but I'm holding out for a reunion tour. Anyway, now that list is down to 2
I was sitting in the library, attempting to study and be a good student, when by buddy comes in and says "I've got a friend who has 4 extra tickets to Jimmy Buffett in Chicago, you want to go?" I check over what I have to do, 70 pages of criminal law to read, 30 pages of property, about 8 torts cases I need to brief, and I say, "hell yes, screw school, lets go." We talk two more friends who needed to be studying into going, and get the plans together. I run home, grab a hawaiian shirt, and we're off
Its a 3 hour drive down, in which we violate a few open container laws, don't worry, the driver was not partaking in those beverages. We figured we wouldn't be able to tailgate at the concert venue, so we'll do it in the car. 3 hours later, we arrive, have to stand in a hella long line so the security guards can group you. What's up with that, I've gone to concerts in downtown Detroit with far less security. Its all yuppies and college kids in the crowd, I think we're safe, but anyway.
We get in just as Buffett starts playing, which was nice, we only missed one song, and it wasn't one I was a big fan of anyway. We get to the lawn and start singing along. What followed was one of the best shows I've seen. The guy is 55 years old and still puts on a 3 hour show. He chats with the crowd, tells some jokes, and has a great stage set up. The tours theme was "Tiki Time" so they had two big Tiki God heads on either side of the stage that occasionally did stuff. Before they played Cheeseburger in Paradise the head requested a sacrifice that had "lettuce, tomato, hieze 57, and french fried potatoes," and they had hands on them that raised about their heads for Fins. There were also hula girls dancing and one of those guys twirling sticks on fire.
They played all the usual favorites you would expect: Come Monday, Fins, Son of a Son of a Sailor, Brown Eyed Girl, Pirate Looks at 40, Volcano, and a bunch more ending the set with Margaritaville, then still came back out for two encores. Easily one of the best shows I've seen, and hopefully I can catch him again next year

I just booked a trip to California to take my two nephews and sister to their first Weird Al concert ever. It's next weekend, and I found a cheap flight. :)
Then I'm going to fly back up to Seattle in time to see him here.

John Williams at the Hollywood Bowl - 11 Star Wars songs, with a zillion flashing lightsabers throughout the audience - AWESOME! 8)
I've been to a lot of other concerts in the past, including Madonna, Janet, Tom Petty, Brian Setzer, BBD, Billy Joel, Elton John, Rolling Stones, The Time, Beach Boys, Eagles, Weird Al, Boston, Go-Go's, and of course - Bon Jovi (my sister won tickets off the radio! :-*). Too many others to list and/or remember... Mostly classic (70's) rock and 80's acts, but really all over the board with the exception of the current modern rock era. Though you'll all be happy to hear that Patty went to some "harder" concerts before we met, like Pearl Jam, Metallica, GnR, etc... ;)

I fly out tonight at about 9pm from Seattle, the concert is tomorrow at Great America in San Jose (not the one at the Greek last night which I can't believe you didn't go to!).
A friend of mine is also driving the 900 miles down to the bay area to join my sisters, nephews and I at the concert....and then I'm doing the road trip back up with him for fun.
I still say you should drive up.....it's only 400 miles. After this, he's off to Australia, and he may never come back again. :)
Then on Tuesday, I see him at the Fair in WA with all of my friends up here....and yes, I think there is going to be a little extra Star Wars flavor to this particular show. I'll post the details on Weds if it turns out like I'm hoping, and give credit where it's due...... ;)

And yes, two days later...I have some pics to share.
Several members of the local 501st chapter (including myself) got to participate in the Weird Al Concert near Seattle on Tuesday night. We came out on stage during the 1st part of the encore for the Star Wars songs during "The Saga Begins".
We worked out a little routine where we were very "trooper-like" during the slow parts of the song, and then we all danced during the chorus, only to go back to being statues again. Everyone had their own little dance to do. I think mine was the cabbage patch, and Vader was doing the "Staying alive" thing.
It was a lot of fun, and the band was great. The crowd loved it, and I'm sure 10,000 is the largest crowd we've ever been in front of. I have to give very special thanks to a certain member of this board for helping to get me in touch with the right people to set this gig up.
I'm quite sure this will go down in history as the best concert I've ever been to.

Yeah. And as always, he was REALLY nice. He took the time to talk to each of us, sign stuff and take pictures with everyone. Then we took pictures with anyone who was around and wanted them. Crew members, Fair staff, and kids. PLUS all these radio contest winners that were backstage. We took pictures with each of them too, so I'm sure there are a lot of weird pictures floating around out there. It was just a really good vibe. I have nothing but nice things to say about the whole experience.
I will say this though. I'm REALLY glad I went to the concert in CA on Sunday and got to see the whole set with my nephews, because we were changing during the last 3 or 4 songs and I was wishing I could be out there watching the show. We got to see most of it, but the last few songs and the medley are always my favorite, and I was listening to them backstage going "D'oh! I wish I was out there!"

Well, there is an Aerosmith and KISS concert coming up in December at the PEPSI Arena in Albany, NY, and Im considering going. Has anyone seen either of these bands in concert? Was the show worth going?

I live really close to the ampitheatre they played at here in Dallas. I sat out in front of my place with a lawn chair and listened. I'm not into Aerosmith, but KISS rocked!

Well, we're bumping old threads--I'll bump this one too, what the hell.
Last show I went to was Radiohead in Houston on October 1st. Good, good stuff. As I've probably said elsewhere, what I was most impressed with was the way that they re-created their trademark "sound", with all of the different layers and effects, for the live show. They sounded very faithful to their studio versions. Hope to see them again sometime.
My next show very well could be seeing The Flaming Lips and The White Stripes together in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom on New Year's Eve. Trying to get the details hammered out right now, but what a cool, kick-ass time that would be if I get to go to that. Two great bands, in a great town, on New Year's.

The show was about an hour and fifteen minutes, not counting the opening act, Den of Fools or something. They sucked. APC rocked.

No. Maynard picked on moshers a lot, though. That's what we got here.
The crowd really didn't go ape**** until they played 'Judith'. I myself was hoping for a cover of 'Aenema' but it didn't happen.

I was talking to the people I went with at a pizza joint, and they said that ever since Tool released 'Lateralus' that Maynard has had that spot on stage. I guess that means he does the same thing during Tool shows.

The show was fantastic. Its the first time I have seen her in concert so I really enjoyed it. The stage set up was perfect, in the round so everyone could see.
The reviews in our newspaper were all positive & best of all, she is coming back on June 12, 2004! 8) This time I'm taking the camera! ;)

I said ugliest "woman"--not necessarily ugliest "singer". I had just seen Sandra Bernhard on the TV a few moments before, so she was the freshest in my mind.

Just got word that Velvet Revolver will be part of Ozzfest this year. I dont know if anyone else, maybe besides Scott, that is totally psyched about this one. Especially since I already have front row seats that I won last year. Not sure who else is headlining yet.

Placebo is good? I saw them once about 5 years ago opening up for Stabbing Westward and the only thing I can recall about them is that the power to their amps went out and they stopped playing and that was the only reaction they got from the crowd, an applause right off the stage.
As for some great concerts I've seen here's my top 5 all time, though not in any particular order:
3/16/02: Dream Theater (this was the 3rd show in 02 where they covered Master of Puppets in its entirety as part of a 3.5 hr show)
2/9/97: Metallica (had front row seats, was a blast, too bad they suck now)
7/19/98: Ozzfest 98 (can't beat Ozzy, Megadeth, Tool, Sevendust, and Motorhead)
7/31/99: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (just an awesome musical event)
6/26/99: Local H (part of a local venue all day event in Chicago called MOBFest)

So, my official next concert is Velvet Revolver in Dallas on June 19th.
Bonnaroo, a week or two earlier, is becoming less and less likely, but you never know.
But that's kind of okay, because coming up in August in Dallas is the two-day Lollapalooza show, featuring the great Sonic Youth on Day One, followed by the almighty Flaming Lips on Day Two (along with a host of other terrific bands, of course).
And the Prince show last month was fantastic. Best non-general admission seats I've ever had. And, [swoon]he looked at me, and we made eye contact. . .[/swoon]

Don't get out to concerts much anymore, but reading this thread has brought back some fine (and not so fine) memories of past concerts. As for the good shows, the best were Tool, Liz Phair (first tour, not this piss she's singing now), early No Doubt, Radiohead/Belly (first tour), Weezer (first tour), Green Day and Shudder to Think. All, except Tool and No Doubt, were at small venues--which really are the best.
As for the worst; saw Incubus, Linkin Park and Blink-182 about 3-4 years ago and regret every minute. Maybe the CDs sounded okay at one time, but LP and Blink have absolutely no clue as to how to perform live (unless you include singing off-key and constantly smacking the upraised hands of the audience). As for Incubus, just no energy at all, and they were basically upstaged by their opening act...Hoobastank. Yes, Hoobastank.
I'm also beginning to recall all the small-club concerts I used to attend while in college. Most had bands that were never very popular and are all but forgotten now. Most of the time, the big lure was the full-bar at the club...yum! ;)
I recall seeing (I think): Little Caesar, Company of Wolves, The Four Horsemen, Junkyard, Firehouse (not Firehose) and Saigon Kick, among others that are still too foggy. I think I still have my ratty Junkyard shirt. Good times. :D

Top 10 concerts I have been too. Keep in mind that I am a closed-minded metal fan and have reduced my options to metal shows. No offense to other music, I just found my niche and stayed there. All venues are Denver Colorado...
10. Ozzy Osbourne (No More Tears song on the album), McNichols Arena with Sepultura (Max was fronting/Chaos AD) & Alice in Chains (AOC with dog on cover). Amazing! Ozzy was pretty good, but Sepultura ripped and Alice in Chains was amazing. Layne had a broken leg, so he hobbled out and kicked it on an old couch and belted everything out perfectly.

I'm off to Rush on Memorial Day I think it is... My friend's a huge Rush nut, and insists we all go, so I'm always up for seeing ONE concert a season.
Honestly, Concerts aren't my thing though... I'd sooner listen to a CD than stand around an entire evening trying to see some pin-head sized people on a stage hundreds of yards away, listening to people scream, yell, and watching the most challenged individuals I'll ever see annoy me while they "have a good time".
I'll have fun at the concert, I'll drink and have fun being with my friends, but I find they're just not things I would push to partake in. I'd be just as content to listen to rush on my buddy's sound system at his place while we all get together to BBQ.
I may be in the minority there, but that's me.

The Pixies are going to be in Austin on 9/18 for the ACL Music Festival, and their only other Texas dates are in October: in Houston on 10/17, and in Grand Prairie on 10/19.

The ACL festival features some really great bands: Wilco, The Pixies, Cat Power, My Morning Jacket, Modest Mouse, Ben Kweller, Kelly Willis, Shelby Lynne, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, Elvis Costello, Chris Robinson, and many, many more.

My wife and I went and saw an up close and personal engagement with Sarah McLachlan at a little bar here in town. She played a few songs and talked with the audience. We won tickets to it. Sarah is cool, I like some of her songs, but my wife is nuts for her music. I'm glad we got to go because it was awesome to her.

Follow Up...JediMAX was really pumped all day yesterday, they got to the show and they were playing clips on the Jumbotrons up front. He thought that was what they went to go see...the show started and he went nuts. Singing, dancing, running all over. He got a new Purple hat and loved every minute, until the show stopped.
He sat down in his chair, put his face in his hands and starting crying "Bring them back, Mommy! I love the Wiggles" He's been pumped all day today though, he's a true fan and does his father proud.

Well, I just scored some pretty swell tickets for Norah Jones here in Oklahoma City. At best, I'm a casual fan of hers, but my sister had expressed some interest in seeing her (and her husband couldn't care less), so when I saw these tickets were available, I pounced on them. Should be a nice night, and now I'll have to pick up a copy of her new album, so I can be a little familiar with it before the show.

10. Ozzy Osbourne (No More Tears song on the album), McNichols Arena with Sepultura (Max was fronting/Chaos AD) & Alice in Chains (AOC with dog on cover). Amazing! Ozzy was pretty good, but Sepultura ripped and Alice in Chains was amazing. Layne had a broken leg, so he hobbled out and kicked it on an old couch and belted everything out perfectly.

That Ozzy show was killer with ALice in Chains, We had damn good seats for that show, one of the best ever!!

The loudest show I've ever been to was in a bar. A buddy and I went to see Molly Hatchett. Long since fallen from the arena show, they played in front of maybe 300 people. It was loud during the show, but not terribly exceptional.
The encore was insane. We were standing maybe 100 feet from the stage and the band urged everyone to "not be shy" and get closer to the stage. We were then maybe 25 feet away and they started playing. Well obviously the sound guy cranked it well past 11. We were in awe, the sound was so loud you could feel it through your entire body and you could actually feel your t-shirt flapping behind you because of the waves of sound. I thought my ears were bleeding, honestly, I kept touching them just to check:o
We left after the show and were walking down the street, apparently yelling at each other pretty loudly, because we were attracting a lot of attention. Next day at work I was sitting there "talking" to someone in my office, more like reading lips, when they asked if I was going to answer my phone - I never heard it ring :D

Anyway, there's a really bitchin' venue here called the Reverb. It mostly gets in ****** Hot Topic bands full of 18-year-old twats, but sometimes they get in really good bands. Anyway, the place is so damn loud that every time I go to a show, it's guaranteed I can't hear normal conversation at all for a few hours.
One could argue it's from the bands having more volume than talent, though.

I haven't been to any shows since the last Pearl Jam mini tour I went on. I can remember when I lived closer to NYC (and was a bit younger) my friends and I would go over into the city every weekend and check out bands. Used to be $1 and a 15 minute train ride. God, I miss those days. Now, I'm lucky if I go to shows more than once to twice a year, Pearl Jam notwithstanding (any time they play anywhere near me, I'm there. And sometimes I travel to see them - Philly, Boston, Washington DC, etc.) - but outside of PJ I can't remember the last band I went to see...
I think I'm just too old to deal with all the kids that show up at some of these concerts. Pearl Jam usually attracts an audience that is about in my age range, which is kinda odd if you think about it, because they should be drawing some younger kids, but they don't, really.

Hey Brent, not sure if you know these guys, or if they've ever played near you, but have you ever seen Our Lady Peace live? I know they are from Canada, just don't know what part. They played here a few years back, touring for their first album, and they played at a small dive place over in NYC. My buddy and I are big fans, so we went to the show, and it was crazy packed. I didn't think that many people here in the US even knew who they were. But we actually got to meet them and hang out with them for a little bit, and they were really cool.
They played another show here like two years ago (I'm sure they played some shows in between as well :P ) and we went to see them again, and again the place was packed (different, bigger place though). And again, they put on a kick ass show. And once again, we got to meet them, and they actually remembered who we were!! They remembered that we had hung with them at Wetlands (the NYC dive bar) a few years back, and we were in shock. Great bunch of guys.

OLP, yeah. Up here we have something called the CRTC - Canadian Radio and Telecommunications, there's an official government act that states what percentage of music must be Canadian content ::) I suppose it's not all bad, but I remember suffering through a lot of Glass Tiger in the late 80s that made me a bit bitter about the act. But it does make sure that bands like OLP get more than their fair share of airtime.
Our local hard rock station has what they call Studio 97 sessions where they invite bands that are playing into their recording studio in the basement to play 4-5 songs live in front of a very small audience (maybe 50 max) and those songs are recorded. They've done this on three discs so far and some of the tracks are incredible. The bands sign off on the songs and they produce a number of CDs from it with all proceeds going to whatever the annual charity is. It's a really cool situation. There is an awesome recording of Finger Eleven's One Thing that the band and studio are thrilled about because bluntly it sounds so much better than the album version. I only have two of the discs, but should be able to get the third pretty easily, though they all sell out on the first day. I'll burn you copies and send them with your stuff.
As far as OLP goes, I've seen them twice, once in the bar and once in a "Theater" - the Burton Cummings theater actually - that holds maybe 3000? Great shows, but I usually only get to meet bands when we're in the bars.
By way of explanation my buddy is the general manager at a middle-upper class restaurant that is quite popular with bands who want a decent meal. The chain is all across Canada and in Washington and Oregon - The Keg by name. Most people like it, some don't. Anyway this guy was the best man at my wedding, so we're pretty good friends and he knows all the radio personalities which leads to free tickets and being in the hospitality industry leads to knowing promoters. So he gets lots of free tickets, I parasitize him and I'm the happier guy of the bunch. But I let his kids swim in my pool in the backyard all summer, so it evens out ;) Especially since I have a girl and he has two boys. About 8 years from now, that **** will stop.
There are a ton of bands that never get big in the states, if they ever get airplay at all. It's really quite tragic. You guys get Default and Nickleback, but miss so much more. I keep meaning to start a thread about bands from Canada that you guys should listen to, but always forget to do so.
One of the old bands that don't play much anymore went by the name of Streetheart. They had maybe 5 albums total, but I don't think any were ever released in the US. They do an awesome version of Under My Thumb, the old Stones tune. Apparently there is a quote in print somewhere that has Mick saying it is so vastly superior to theirs that he wishes they never recorded it. Not sure if I believe it, but it's an awesome tune. The band had an amazing bass player, Spider Sinnaeve (sp?), who had such an easily identifiable sound, just so distinctive for a bass, clearly not trying to be in the background. Sadly the song I mentioned is only available on disc in live versions, which are ok, but the studio version is unreal.

That sounds awesome. I'm a sucker for **** like that, especially if it's done acoustic. I've got plenty of stuff like that from a few different stations and what not. And I've been to few of those informal, intimate gatherings. Kinda like MTV Unplugged (man, I miss that show. Even the ****** guests were sometimes cool. Sometimes).
Best one I ever saw? Back around 1992, at Tower Records in NYC, there was this unknown band that came in to do a live in store appearance right before (or maybe right after, I can't remember) their first album came out. They were touring with Smashing Pumpkins and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and were playing the first of three sold out shows at Roseland Ballroom that same night. They only played for about 20 minutes, maybe half an hour, but they were awesome. Hearing some of their songs done acoustic (and their drummer had some bongos just to keep the beat going) was just so amazing, it's one day I'll probably never forget. Almost like a religious experience, if you will. And they were cool enough to stick around after, and chat with some of the fans that had been there to see them play. There were only about 40 of us I would say, and at least half of the others left either half way through or when they were done playing. I stuck around and got to meet the band, and chat with them for a few minutes. Come to think of it, it had to be right after the album had dropped, because I knew all the songs and couldn't wait to hear them play acoustic.

Hmmm, looking over this list, it's decidely un-Canadian, no? Tea Party is a great band, I know they are from Canada. I know Matthew Good is as well, and I'm guessing that Waking Eyes must be, 'cause I don't know who they are. Is Thornley from Canada? I got a promo of that CD back at the beginning of the summer, and checked it out - it's got some good songs on it, although it's kind of a Nickleback ripoff bigtime if you ask me. So who else is from Canada there? Finger Eleven (I think so)?? Billy Talent (again, I think so)?? One of our local cable companies used to carry Much Music, and I used to love watching it, because it definitely opened my ears to a whole bunch of music that I would have missed out on otherwise. Like OLP, who have become one of my favorite bands, along with I Mother Earth. Without Much Music, I would have missed out on both of those guys. I was also introduced to Chantel Kreviazuk through Much, and I think she's an absolutely amazing songwriter. The fact that she's married to Rayne from OLP doesn't hurt either ;)

Skid Row is a pretty kick ass band, even without Sebastian Bach. Saw them open for Kiss on the 2000 'Farewell' Tour. I think the lead singer's name is Johnny Salinger, and he sounds exactly like Bach.
Haven't heard anything about the band touring since then, which is a shame, since I'd pay to see them again.

yeah, the list is pretty decidedly un-Canadian, but I guess that's what's popular at the moment. With U2, Green Day and Velvet Revolver taking up six of the top 20, it gets pretty full. Canadian bands on there would be:

I think that's it. Oddly there's no Tragically Hip on there (the second best band to come out of Kingston), a Canadian icon that pretty much dominates any list, I suppose their latest release is a little old now.
The Waking Eyes are a local band. Another thing that radio station runs annually is a new band contest. They take submitted recordings from piles of bands, pick 4-5 bands and then release 2-3 songs from each band on a cd. I'll try to find that one for you too, though it's not that great IMO. The concept is really nice, because those bands that get in get free recording time, some pretty serious (local) airplay and then play a few larger gigs to get some exposure. A bunch end up as local opening acts for the bands that are playing the smaller venues (3000 people) like Sum41 when they come later this month.
The Studio97 sessions were originally all of the unplugged type, but more recently they tend to be more plugged in, something that disappoints me a bit. The old studio was quite small, so they couldn't really get any gear in there, hence the unplugged nature. Due to the success of the sessions/albums, they expanded the studio enough that bands can hook up now, so they amount to live, full sound recordings. Still neat, but I like the unplugged aspect as well.

Interesting. I'd be willing to bet that's where our station got the idea. I would say though that they improved upon it by focusing more on up and coming talent, at least that's my preference. Also there's no way some of those names would bother going to a little studio to play for the station, at least that's my guess.

I only looked at the most recent disc. A couple of names I didn't recognize, but that could easily be due to the type of music on there. I don't listen to much Sarah McLachlan or that type of stuff, so I just sort of had my eyes glaze over at that point.
Either way, I'd suspect that's the impetus for our local station.

Went to my first concert of 2005 last night...
Motley Crue
Through a wierd chain of events, my dad won two free tickets to the show off the radio, so since we were both free, we decided to check it out.
Seats weren't great - center stage, but way up at the top of the Target Center (sect 201, row R), but for free you can't really complain.
The show was actually pretty good (I had low expectations - 4 has-been rockers on a reunion tour). They kept the new stuff to a minimun, playing 1 set of stuff that was pre-1985, then an intermission, then a second set with post-1985 stuff.
I heard lotsa classics - Girls, Girls, Girls; Too Fast for Love; Dr. Feelgood; Kick Start My Heart; Shout at the Devil; etc.
Overall, a pretty good show..

The very first concert I ever went to was Sha Na Na in Allentown PA when I was 9 or 10.
In highschool, I saw the Monkees with Weird Al opening and the Hooters doing a benefit concert at a local High school. The Hooters concert was memerable because they played one of my favorate Beatles songs, "Hide Your Love Away."
In collage I saw Genesis in 92 and Yes twice during their Union tour. I also saw Meatloaf and Paul MaCartny, but missed Pear Jam and Bob Dylan when they came to town. Genesis is my favorate band, and when they started "Dancing on a Volcano," I could have died a happy boy.
After I moved to LA, I got see a lot more shows:

My freind also plays in a Genesis cover band, so I go to his shows every other month. They're excellent.
But I have to say, the best concert I've ever gone to, and may ever go to in my life, was last year by a cover band called The Musical Box. They reproduced the 1974 Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour with props, slides and costumes on loan from Genesis. The music was spot on and the vocals were uncanny. It was quite simply an amazing concert and ahead of it's time for 1974.

Well I managed to pick up two tickets to see Paul McCartney in Atlanta. Unfortunately, the seats look pretty lousy, and cost more than I wanted to spend - it's going to cost me roughly $100, but I think my mom is going to cover it since it is the day before my birthday. How cool.
I've also got tickets to see Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson in Birmingham this June.
I'll be going to Bonnaroo, also in June.
In May I will be going to a charity festival thing, where a handful of bands will be playing for a good cause... Eliot Morris, The Duhks, Blue Merle, Drivin' N' Cryin', Hootie & The Blowfish, Meteorite, Downright, Tonic, Shinedown, Seether, and the Wallflowers. Nobody I'm too crazy about, but it should be fun.

Went to the Sloss Furnice last night, an old Iron Ore furnace... Amazing place to hold a concert, it's got a train track right beside the stage, so the bands have to either drown out the train or just stand there and wait...

About 8 cars or so made a nice caravan from my town to Roo on Thursday morning. We'll probably do that next year, too. You should come to Roo next year, I'd love to hang out and have a beer or something.
Roo had some awesome camp names, my camp was R2D2 - our neighbors were Camp Lando Calrissian and Camp Darth Vader, I think.
Anyway, it really kicked ass... The entire experience, minus having a leaky tent, was great. Dave Matthews Band put on the best performance that I saw, I also really enjoyed My Morning Jacket (both times I've seen these guys live, I've really enjoyed it through and through), and Allison Krauss and Union Station. Modest Mouse was lousy, IMHO - they just didn't sound excited to be there. Jack Johnson was great, but I missed Iron and Wine and Mars Volta. Although I hadn't planned on seeing Rilo Kiley, my friends talked me into it - and I gotta tell you, he did awesome. Widespread Panic was boring, to me. I don't know why, but I just can't seem to get into their jams... Both of their performances were about 3 or 4 hours long, and both of them bored me to death. I just can't get into those long ass 30 minute songs they do.
I may be seeing The Killers this upcoming weekend... can't decide.

Well I'll be back to a concert for the first time in I believe 3 years, when I see Gigantour (http://www.gigantour.com) in August. We're talking Megadeth, Dream Theater, Fear Factory, Nevermore (both with Chicago roots) and more on a relatively inexpensive stadium tour. $40 for seats for this show, as opposed to $100 for Ozzfest this year, it was a no-brainer. Seeing DT though in a stadium environment will be odd though, I've always seen them in small venues, hope the bigger venue doesn't detract from the sound quality...

Stones tickets are around $400-500 for seats that don't suck. I know there are some that are massively cheaper, around $100-200, but I wouldn't pay that for tickets that suck.

i don't know how the stones get away with their ticket prices. i saw them on the steel wheels tour and tickets were only like $30 and some of my friends bought their tickets just a few days before the show.
last time they can around they played the freakin' texas motor speeday and tickets were $75. that is just ridiculous to be 2 miles away and pay $75.

wow... that is low. i had heard that black sabbath had been sore before about opening bands blowing them away, but they should have known that would happen with iron maiden. i am sure maiden has more serious fans than sabbath or ozzy does anymore.
i went to the ozzyfest a few years ago and sabbath was probably the low point of the show. ozzy didn't look like he felt good, so it was essentially 4 really old dudes standing around playing sabbath songs kinda poorly. rob zombie definitely blew them away.

I've been hearing some contradictory stuff, outside of the concert report that HMI linked. One story says Sharon was being a total bitch throughout most of the tour, cause Maiden was overshadowing Sabbath. On the other hand, I've also been hearing that Bruce was being an egotistical ass, snubbing most of the other bands and Ozzy in particular at almost every turn. So who knows what's what really. Maiden's part of the tour is done and Velvet Revolver replaced them. Ozzy has announced he's only going to be doing select cities for now on during Ozzfest due to his deterioating health.
I was at a show a couple weeks ago, the Gigantour show w/ Megadeth & Dream Theater headlining here in Chicagoland. Was a pretty solid show, the problem was the sound system at the venue, the Tweeter Center in Tinley Park, IL sucks major ass. The first main stage act was Nevermore, and at first I thought they weren't using the main sound system or something, because they sounded really weird. They have a bit of a unique sound to them, that was completely drowned out. Then later on Dillenger Escape Plan came out, and the sound was just as bad. Not to mention the fact that their music sucked.
When Fear Factory hit, everything sounded nice and clear, so I figure the problems came and went. FF btw sounded pretty good, first time I've seen them since Dino left the band a few years back, but they were alright. Dream Theater hit next, and most likely more than half the crowd was there to see them. But the problems with the sound system returned and made for some difficulties understanding James Labrie's voice, which is beyond stupid, because he has such a high pitched clear voice. Instrumentally though, you could hear things just fine, and as always Petrucci and Portnoy were stellar on guitar and drums respectively.
Finally, out came Megadeth who rocked, despite the fact I really still have no clue who the new band members are. The worst part though was no one knew or was interested in any of their new songs, the crowd didn't come alive until they started to play some of the classic songs, most notably starting out with In My Darkest Hour. It was a high impact set from them overall, despite the unfamiliarity with the new members/songs
I had also checked out the 2nd stage, a band called Bobaflex was there, neat SW-inspired name, but crappy band. They were too infatuated with their own inane homoerotic shenangians to get the crowd going. Saw Dry Kill Logic, who were nothing to sneeze at, and Symphony X who musically sounded really good, but I wasn't familiar with their work. Overall, it was worth the $50 for the tickets and was a good time, but could have been a lot better if not for the sound system. It'll make me 2nd guess going to this venue again.

i may have to rescind my statement. reports have it that dickenson was bashing ozzy and the osbournes show all thru the tour, so sharon took her one last chance to get a little revenge.
if that is the true story, then i don't blame her at all for screwing with them. the only ones i feel bad for are the fans probably didn't understand and were pissed to see maidens set messed up.

I saw Motley Crue near Detroit last wednesday, three bands opened for them, I can only remember the name of the band Silvertide (I really liked this bands sound). The whole show absolutely rocked! Unfortunately Motley cut Too Young To Fall In Love, Helter Skelter and Tommy's Drum Solo (no big loss here as I never really liked his techno-bull****). They sounded a little ruffer than they did when I saw them at The Palace back in March. For that show, back at the very beginning of the tour, I'd never heard Vince sound so damn good. And I've seen Crue on almost every tour since 1984. I'm still not sure why they changed the name of the tour midstream from Red White and Crue 2005 Tour to Carnival Of Sins Tour 2005??? Oh well, they still kicked ass! ;D

I'm pretty excited, I'm getting ready to take my 5 year old daughter to see John Williams tonight at the Hollywood bowl. She knows all the music, so I can't wait to see her reactions. She gets quite enthusiastic.

I just got back from the Nine Inch Nails concert. I was blown away. They are so ******* amazing live. Trent went cray and broke about 5 mic stands, threw a mic into the audience. I had such a blast. The lighting/set were perfect for the show everything was timed so well. I highly recommend seeing NIN live if you like them. :)

Dude, they were amazing. Brandon Flowers has amazing stage presence. Talk about someone who was born to be a rock star. The crowd sang along to every song. They have like 3 more shows and then they are heading back to the studio.

I'll be taking in my first show in oh, say, 8 years? Micheal Graves, ex-Misfits lead singer, has 2 projects, one of which being a self-titled horror-punk band a la Misfits. Sunday night show in Downtown Minneapolis, I'm pretty stoked, as is the girly.

I'm eagerly awaiting my tickets to see Cream at Madison Square Garden. I still cannot believe that I'm going to see this show in person. I almost have to pinch myself!

Next concert for me is Judas Priest on Tuesday. They were a blast when I was young, but now I feel like getting out my Rock Star: The Movie t-shirt :P

The Michale Graves show tonight was absolutely insane. Although relegated to a small Downtown Minneapolis pub, he blew the roof off of the place. Ripped through classic and modern Misfits tracks, as well as those off of his S/T solo album.

Whoa. Feeling those low end polymetric riffs, while people (kids) can still head bob to the basic beat, amazing. I've been wanting to see a show like that since I was 16. I don't even go to metal shows anymore.

Heading to the Ryman Sunday night to check out Ben Folds and The Fray. First concert I've been to since I saw Kings of Leon (also at the Ryman) a couple months ago. The Ryman has been getting some killer concerts lately, I know Bright Eyes is playing there very soon, and I would have loved to have gone to seem them/him, but time kind of slipped away from me.

I think Dylan's got a pretty notorious rep for being really erratic from one show to the next.
I saw him a couple years ago (on a similar tour, but with Willie), and I was ready to go about four or five songs in--and I'm a Dylan fan, and that was the first (and only) time I'd ever seen him. Stuck around because--hey--he's Bob Dylan.
That being said, I'd still go see him again anytime he played around here because--hey--he's Bob Dylan.

The Willie/Dylan show was pretty awesome, but only because of Willie. I've heard that Dylan is pretty erratic, too... One of my friends said about three or four years ago, he literally hummed through his setlist... How lame is that? Luckily this time around Dylan, decided not to **** us around... Sounds like you saw a good one. Think he played a few of those when I saw him, but honestly, I don't remember a whole hell of a lot about that show. Not because I was wasted or anything, but because it was a really forgettable show. And I, too, enjoyed Willie a lot more than Bob.

I did. I had hoped Dimetrodon would come along, being 2 hours from here, and a Jersey boy, but it turns out he has summer classes and all that, so my friend (and boss) Reggie who's a huge springstein fan is gonna tag along, I think.

I got to see Zappa plays Zappa earlier this week in Boston. WHOA! This was one of the most intense shows I've ever seen. It started with a 20 minute film of Frank Zappa with his band in the early 1970's. After that the band came onstage. The featured players were Dweezil Zappa, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Steve Vai and Terry Bozzio. And these guys were on fire! For that matter, so was the Orpheum Theater in Boston, as the temperature inside was easily 85 degrees or more.
People complain about not getting their money's worth at shows. But you couldn't say that for this. I had a balcony seat for $40 some, and you know what? They played for over 3 hours after the introductory film. The band touched on material from all over Frank's career. Terry Bozzio came out as a guest drummer and singer for a good portion of the set. But the real fireworks started when Steve Vai came out onstage. Now I had always thought the guy was a wanker in his solo career. But seeing him play as part of a Zappa ensemble gave me a whole new insight into what he does. And when he and Dweezil were trading licks? Holy crap! It was phenomenal, and it pointed out that Dweezil can really play.
If you're into Zappa's work, or even just mildly interested, try to catch this tour! You won't be disappointed.

In all, I believe I saw... I-Nine, Wood Brothers, dios (malos), Seu Jorge, Bright Eyes, Oysterhead, Tom Petty (w. Stevie Nicks), My Morning Jacket, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Rusted Root, Blues Traveler, Radiohead, Dr. John, Balkan Beat Box... Unfortunately, Kristin and I couldn't find any tolerable spot for shade to see Buddy Guy... We also left Bright Eyes and Seu Jorge a bit early, and were too freaking tired to wait any longer for Dresden Dolls to start...
The heat was pretty bad.

Saw Buckcherry Friday night here in San Antonion at the Sunken Gardens. It was part of their "Crazy Bitch 2006 Tour".
The runningtour is also known as the Buckcherry Bikini Bash. Any women attending the concert in a bikini or bikini top gets in free. Also, they invite the local strippers to dance on the side of the stage. Lots to look at all night long!
Buckcherry was outstanding! The place went nuts for "Crazy Bitch" and "Lit Up." I've been a fan since their first album, so I really enjoyed the entire show. But most people there are the new fans that only recognize the new songs. The band sounded really good and adlib parts of songs to get the crowd more involved. As a GNR fan, I really liked it!

Last show I went to was the PJ show in Winnipeg. My ears rang for 3 days after the show. I will be sporting plugs tonight and tomorrow :-[

Couple thoughts:
If it's too loud, you're too old.
If I was going to a Pearl Jam concert, I'd wear earplugs, too, but not to protect my ears. More like to protect my musical sensibilities.

Some shows demand that you wear earplugs. Like Motorhead. I've heard that Sabbath can be extremely loud, but when I saw them the volume wasn't an issue...probably because of my crappy seats. I'll usually bring plugs to a show, but the volume really needs to be high for me to consider putting them in.
I think I've lost a little bit of my hearing (some high frequencies) after playing in bands for the past 13 years or so. Standing near a drummer who's smashing away at a china cymbal while playing a 3 hour gig can do that to you >:( . Now, if the venue we're playing is really loud on stage then I might wear plugs while we play. But I think volume tends to be much more of an issue if you're right out front, fully exposed to the PA. Stage volume is usually much more controlled. But people like Bob Mould and Pete Townsend haven't been so lucky. Be careful about your hearing.

That's the deal. My seats are usually 5-6th row and I'm right under the main speakers and it is so so damn loud

I would definitely wear plugs there. You're just getting blasted by such high SPL's there that it's dangerous. That sound is designed to carry all the way from the mains to the back of the arena and sound good there. And if you've been to any concerts, you already know that the soundman is either in the middle or near the back of an arena's floor. You would think that floor seats would be great by virtue of where they are, but from a sound standpoint it's not necessarily the best place to be.

I get a kick out of the ringing actually, since it almost always passes in a day or two. It's fun for me to go to work the next day too, since I spend a lot of time talking to people on the phone.... what? What?! WHAT!!!! :P
Though it might not be so prudent with having to cross the border the next day. Border patrol might not see the humor in my temporary deafness. :-X

I've got tickets to see Willie Nelson and John Foggerty, and by absolute fluke, it looks like Eric Clapton is going to be performing here in Alabama, as well... Has anyone seen Foggerty live? I caught the tail end of his show on Austin City Limits, and was wondering if he'll be playing really CCR-heavy like he did then, or what? I'm really not interested in any of his newer projects, to be honest - I'm just wanting to rock out to his old stuff...
Has anyone seen Clapton live? What's it like? His tickets are gonna cost somewhere around $100, which is absolutely ******* ridiculous, considering none of the venues in Alabama are worth that. Willie and Foggerty together cost me $40 or so...

I saw Clapton last fall with Cream. He is worth the money! I can't believe just how good he was. I had heard all this hype about him, and I'd listened to his stuff for years, yet I hadn't come across any recordings of him that really blew my mind. That night he succeeded in doing just that. The man is incredible live!

I wish I could have seen the CREAM reunion... they're one of my favorite bands. I have the CREAM Reunion DVD, and while it does kick some ass... they totally dropped the ball on several songs, and worst of all - Clapton never once played with his Wah pedal... What the **** was he thinking? The Wah is like another member of the band, if you ask me.
Hopefully he cracks out the crybaby on this tour...

He broke out the wah-wah pedal at the Garden. It was amazing when they played "White Room" and "Tales of brave Ulysees". But I agree, it was sorely missing from both the CD and DVD of the shows at the Royal Albert Hall.

I saw them when they did the Quadrophenia tour in the 90's. They were AWESOME! I was floored by the whole show, especially during "The Real Me" (since I'm a bassist)...John Entwistle was amazing! It seems weird for them to go out on tour without him. But I guess they had been doing shows without him for a while. But to do a record as well just seems kind of weird.

August 19th I have tickets to see one of my favorite bands, the Dropkick Murphys. I can cross them off my list afterwards. I've read quite a few reveiws of their shows, and it sounds like there is no way I can have a bad time. 8)

Man, tonights show was AWSOME! The opening act was a band I had never heard of, and they did little much more than play some music with a fiddle and sing. They were nice. The second act of the night was Danielle Peck, and let me tell you, not only was this girl beautiful, but she sang a few covers (One was Folsom Prison Blues :)) and you wouldn't know she didn't write them. She made them her own. Plus, she was gorgeous, and I was right at the barricade, so that helped hold my attention!
Then the main eventers, Charlie Daniels Band hit the stage and tore everything up. I didn't know I knew that many Charlie Daniels Band songs! They played a bunch of their songs, and a couple of band members had their own songs that they performed. There was two bouts of musical "punch for punch" and one where Charlie used the fiddle and battled every band member on their respecive instruments, immitating the noise they made. It was awsome! The guituarist had his own piece to perform on his electric guitar....Flight of the Bumblebee! Never have I heard a more badass version.
Finnaly after a rocking version of our National Anthem, he ended the night with The Devil Went Down to Georgia, and it was again, awsome. I was pumping my fist, bouncing up and down. Awsome.

Saw Willie Nelson and John Foggerty... Willie was off, for the most part... but John totally rocked the balls off... Nothing but CCR hits all night long, minus two solo songs at best. John is one of the best guitarists I've seen - he really, really ripped into a few solos... Amazing stuff...

Flaming Lips Blend L.A. With Oklahoma On Live CD/DVD

After taping a performance at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl last Sunday, the Flaming Lips are halfway done with the first live album of their career. The rest of the material on the CD/DVD set will be drawn from an as-yet-unscheduled September show in the band's Oklahoma City hometown.
"We're hoping that by the time we're actually doing it, we can put it out in whatever format, like the Blu Ray or HD DVD, [that] Warner Bros. is picking up on and be able to do high resolution, uncompressed audio this time around," Flaming Lips bassist Michael Ivins tells Billboard.com. "Even [with] DVDs we're putting out now, for Surround Sound, they still have to encode the video. People say it's lost its compression but I'm not buying it."
And while the Hollywood Bowl show went heavy on the Lips' recent album "At War With the Mystics," the plan is to dig out some older, more obscure material for the Oklahoma City date. The CD/DVD will most likely arrive early next year. "We never want to rush stuff out and say, 'Hey, look, it's out for Christmas'," Ivins says.
The current tour does feature plenty of willing audience members on stage as dancers wearing Santa Clause and alien costumes, but there is one stage prop that has yet to be unveiled. "Perhaps you've heard about our UFO we're trying to build for the stage," Ivins says. "It's not quite ready yet. We're going to see if we can do it every show or just do it a few times a year."
He admits, "That's how we do a lot of stuff -- we'll think of something and then we'll figure out how to do it afterwards."

Hey. I'm deciding if I should see the The Lips in NYC in Sept. Tickets are a bit steep, but if a certain job I'm contracting for comes my way, I'll grab one. I don't really go to concerts that much, but I love the Flaming Lips, and there shows look wild.

Marshal Tucker Show was pretty good, but the highlite of the night was AGAIN running in to Jeff the Drunk and the guy he was with from Sterns Show, and having them remember the girls I was with, and having a conversation.

My God. First The Welch Boys opened up the show, and rocked the house. They were really good, good enough in fact, to convince me to buy their CD. That was just the begining! Next up was "The Threat" or "A Global Threat", take your pick. I wouldn't buy their CD, but I'd see them in show again. Then after a 35 minute equptment change/ small riot with people hanging from the rafters, breaking the non-working ceiling fan, and sexurity using bottles of water to "controll" the crowd.
Then the lights went dark, and as the "Lets Go Murphys!" chants rose up from the crowd, "The Foggy Dew" by the Chieftans, with Sinead O'Connor on vocals started to play, and the crowd pushed forward, and they broke the house down! We had a real treat when Kay Hanley performed The Dirty Glass with the guys! They tore through a set list of some 25 songs before they even took a short (2 minute) intermission after The Spicy McHaggis Jig.
As soon as intermission ended, they performed "Teenage Wasteland" by The Who (which is my friend Nicks favorite band) and then after two songs from their latest Album 'The Warriors Code' they ended their show like they always do, with "Skinhead on the MBTA", The fans are allowed on stage. So everyone was jumping the rail but security was trying to stop it so by the time I made it, my boy Nick didn't get up, so I grabbed his arm and yanked him clear over the security guard and the rail and up on to the stage.
The band was ripping into the song, the microphone was passed around and we all got to help sing the song! It was the coolest thing I have ever experienced! Then, after the band ended the show, I shook the guitarists hand, and then helped Nick look for his keys he lost crowd surfing. Then the band came back out to meet some of the fans, and rather than get autographs, I was fortunate to have a few short meaningful conversations with the guys from the band!
Man it was so sweet! My ears are still ringing, I'm bruised up pretty good from the pit, and I have more new T-Shirts than I know what to do with!

You should go. There's nothing quite like a Flaming Lips show. I've been to three of them, and have had a smile on my face from the very beginning to the very end of each one. The balloons, the confetti, the hand puppets, the Hulk fists, the animals (now aliens and Santas), the gigantic video screen, and if you're lucky, Wayne walking out over the crowd in an enormous inflatable balloon. The music's great, as always, but the overall atmosphere makes their shows some of the most memorable ones I've ever been to.

I saw Rob Zombie and Godsmack on Saturday night. I am finally starting to feel better today.
First time seeing Zombie, but he put on a good show. His songs are perfect for rock concert atmosphere!
Godsmack played almost two hours, and did a lot of variety in their setup. Their shows are always entertaining and really showcases their rock muscianship. I left tired, with headache and hoarse. It was great!!!! ;D

While I didn't much care for S-H-O-P-P-I-N-G, I thought the rest of the "evening of (mostly) electronical entertainment" was top-notch. I especially loved the partially acuoustic "Home and Dry", the encore "Go West", and the ginormous hats of "Always on my Mind".

There was a pretty full crowd. Maybe 60% from the Seattle gay community and the rest were folks that grew up on them from the 80's. I've always liked their music and rated them my top band. I really enjoy their earlier stuff where they poke fun at themselves in typical British comic style.
By the end of the show everyone was standing and dancing. You should have seen the crowd go wild when "It's a Sin" was played. Absolutely amazing!

Me and some buddies got to hang out with My Morning Jacket for about half an hour or so at the Ryman. They know a few of us by first name, but we wear the viking helmets so that they can pick us out in the crowd... Anyway, they signed our Hatchshow prints and just goofed around with us for a while.

I made some new friends as of late, which kind of rekindled my love for music, so we've been doing some local shows, as well as semi-national acts. Caught Through the Eyes of the Dead along with The Acacia Strain and Light This City 2 weeks ago. Plan on seeing Acacia Strain when they come back in January with JOB FOR A COWBOY, as well as bound to be killer show of God Forbid with Mnemic. Mastodn will be in town February 5th, which I can't wait for.
Minnesota seems to get snubbed on shows, though.

I caught Deftones at First Avenue last night along with Glassjaw, on their reunion tour. Glassjaw were actually better than I remembered, which says a lot because I'm not a fan, really. Deftones were just insane, pulling off a set that lasted an hour and 45 minutes, with 3 small intermissions/breaks. Great mix of their entire catalogue, and hearing it live made me appreciate the new album a little more.
I stuck around after the show, and although he seemed a little hesitant, given the show's duration, Chino stopped and signed a few posters and I was able to get a picture in before he boarded the bus. The 11 year wait was well worth it!

The Police are playing at our Commonwealth Stadium which seats over 60,000 people. David Bowie, Willie Nelson, Genesis, Pink Floyd, & the Rolling Stones which sold out 2 concerts in 49 minutes.
This stadium is where we had the Hockey Heritage Classic that I went to back in 2003.

Willie's guitar, "Trigger", has probably had that hole for 20-something years. I wonder how long Martin Guitars expects he'll be able to keep it? They've offered to fix it on numerous occasions.

I know your pain. I've been dying to see the Police since I was a kid. When I heard about this tour I went nuts. Well, even with the Best Buy presale, the best tickets I could get were still $90 and they weren't even on the floor. Screw that! I refuse to pay that much to see anyone. I've gotten to see, meet and hang out with alot of other my favorite bands/musicians for no more than 1/3 of that. I'll just wait til they release a live DVD and enjoy it at home...

I don't know if any of you guys will know what this is, but I went and saw The Draft tonight. They're a new band that has the remnants of Hot Water Music (3/4ths of the band actually). Not quite as good as Hot Water, but good stuff nonetheless.

probably my fav all time band rush is touring again. and... once again i will be sitting out on the grass. for once i would have to say being able to buy something online is a bad thing. i got up early and waited for tickets to go on sale and what do i get... section 200. i can't believe all of sections 100, 101 and 102 were sold out before i could hit enter. i was prepared to pay the $75 per ticket for decent seats, but not for 2nd tier.
i don't usually go to shows at the bigger places, so i guess i was out of the loop. i had no idea it was so hard to get good tickets to a concert.

My "Luck" kicks in. Bought two sets of tickets for Genesis. First set was during pre sales, just to get in the door, they're decent seats. Second set, I went to the venue and got really good seats with the idea I could easily get rid of the first set. Genesis goes and adds a second show, only one of the tour. Can't get rid of my first set of tickets. :P

Thats great to hear. I have been a fan for a while now and have had the pleasure of interviewing and hanging out with steven wilson on many occasions. He really is a great guy, he loves the music, and is a great producer. He never stops working, he has so many side projects. The new album just came out in America, it's worth checking out. There is a 17 min track which is awesome. I have my tickets to see them when they come back to NY.

I went to Live Earth yesterday at Giant Stadium. It was OK if you could get passed all the political pro vegan stuff. Roger Waters was great as always, Bon Jovi was much beter than the last time i saw him, the Smashing Pumpkins were as bad as i remember, and the Police were really not that great. Stong has this total worship me becuase i am honoring you just to be here vibe on stage. I am usually down for a jam but they turned Roxanne into this long drawn out thing that didnt work for me. Song selection wasnt great. The surprise of the day was Alicia Keys who looked great. She was wearing this little pink dress, very hot. She sounded great, a pleasant surprise.

I saw Sting a couple years ago and thought he was OK, but kinda boring really.
It was a short set at Live Earth, he did In the Flesh, Money, Us and Them, Eclipse and Another Brick in the Wall.
I saw him at MSG on the last tour and it was amazing, he did 2 sets. He did the entire Darkside of the moon the first set and them a bunch of random floyd stuff and a couple of solo tracks. I also had the pleasure of seeing David Gilmour when he played Radio City a feww weeks before Waters. Another amazing show with 2 sets. Saw Rush a week ago last Friday. Really good concert, 29 songs in 3 hours time.

i saw rush saturday. i have seen them a bunch of times and was very pleased that they broke out quite a few songs i had never seen them do live before, or hadn't heard in a very long time.
they are a smart band recognizing that most of their audience are repeat customers and trying to mix it up so people will come out every time they tour.

Yeah i have seen them when they were that small too. I was not a fan then, still not a fan now. Her favorite band though, but i understand what you are saying. I feel the same way about alot of bands i have seen before they made it big and its just not the same to see them play MSG as it was to play a small club.

Just picked up tickets for me and a buddy to see Dropkick Murphys in November. The tickets themselves were only $20 each, but after the "convenience charge", "order processing charge", and paying $2.50 to print my tickets, it worked out to $30.19. ::)

I saw Black Rebel Motorcycle Club the other night (9/13) for the third time. It was an absolutely incredible show. If you get a chance to catch these guys, do it. You'll be blown away.

Nothing coming this week, but the week after that, I've got tickets to see Arcade Fire with LCD Soundsystem (9/26) and then Smashing Pumpkins (9/28). The only other tickets I've got are for the Vegoose festival in Las Vegas at the end of October (Muse & Rage Against the Machine), but I'll probably be seeing either Interpol or the Shout Out Louds on 10/15. Haven't quite got that one pinned down yet.

Saw my first night of two nights of Genesis. It rained. Second day it rains all year in Los Angeles and it's the show I've been waiting 15 years for and had very good seats for. The keyboards shorted during Invisible Touch, the show was done. You can't have a Genesis concert without keyboards so they had to cancel. Luckily there were only two songs to go. :P

I'm seeing them next week with the Shout Out Louds. I picked up the Shout Out Louds tickets and they had to change the Venue, so Interpol invited them to open for them.

I'll likely be at that, though they were over $100 last time they came through, which was 1996. I'll let you know. Supposedly we get a "special" show in Winnipeg because they haven't been here for over 25 years. No opening act and three hours of music, so we'll see how it goes.
As for the bottle, probably the same jackass that chucked a bottle at the Red Wings after they eliminated the Jets from the playoffs in 1996. We have some clever folks around here.

I have seen them a few times at both large and small venues. I think the best time i saw them was at Madison Square Garden with A Perfect Circle opening and then Marilyn Manson coming out to do the encore of StarF*ckers and Beautiful People.

I'm going to Bonnaroo, so I'll get to see Pearl Jam, Metallica, and My Morning Jacket. I'll be seeing MMJ three times, this year. Highly recommended show.

Well, a couple of shows have gone by....
Rush - didn't end up being a special show in any way that it was hyped. We got the standard format concert everyone else got, so a bit disappointing in that way. The show didn't sell out either, a big surprise there. It was very impressive and the most amazing aspect is just how good these guys are as musicians individually and as a group. One of the tightest performances I've ever seen.
Boston/Lou Gramm - didn't end up going, though apparently it was a pretty good show, or at least Boston was. Lou Gramm apparently hasn't done well physically, his vocals are off and he's applying a fair bit of creativity to the original versions. I don't really know anyone that enjoyed that aspect. Boston was apparently great.
Iron Maiden. :o :o :o :o :o :o
Get the idea? Wow, just wow. It was loud, fast and hard. Dickenson's vocals were amazing and the band sounded fantastic. It was basically the same tour as 1986 for the most part and was fantastic. It was kinda funny because I talked to a fair number of the staff before the show and they were terrified of the crowd, which aside from the floor was extremely well behaved.
As for the crowd, it was without a doubt the loudest crowd I've ever heard. That's saying something too. The show was a "sell-out" at 12500 but that was about 4000 less than were at the Pearl Jam show. The lower number is in response to the stage setup that wasn't as open as the Pearl Jam concert where folks were sitting behind the stage as well. The Pearl Jam crowd was probably the most impressive I've ever seen overall and their energy was consistently higher before and during the show. The Maiden crowd did quiet down a couple of times during songs I thought were kind of obscure to include in the show when better or at least more popular choices existed. I don't remember that happening at Pearl Jam through the show. Where the Maiden crowd was better (louder) though was in the duration of singing along during the show. Routinely you couldn't even hear Dickenson singing at all because the crowd just drowned him out.
Suffice to say I'm really, really happy to have gone to this show. Hell, I even bought a t-shirt. At regular price even. It had a bloody hockey stick on it, how could I possibly resist?

I dug them in the early-mid 90's when I was going through my "stoner" phase. Haven't listened to them in awhile, but they're a lot heavier then those three bands. If you liked Sepultura, Pantera, Megadeth etc back in the day then you won't mind Testament.

Just got back from the Metal Masters show.
It was ******* incredible.
Nissan Pavilion is notorious for their terrible parking and terrible management, but I was able to drive there, buy a t-shirt, and get my lawn seats before the first band started. Testament was up first, and although I'm not familiar with their music in particular, I'm a fan of Pantera, Metallica, and the like, so I enjoyed it. After a long wait, Motorhead took the stage, and put on a great 45 minute long set. Heaven & Hell were up next, and were simply amazing. The played a 15 minute long Heaven & Hell, and ended with Neon Knights. After seemingly hours of waiting, Judas Priest finally took the stage. They played some stuff from the new album, as well as some older songs. It was getting near 10, and halfway through Priest's setlist, I left after Breaking The Law. Overall, a great concert, and a great four-and-a-half hours of metal.

Bought my ticket for Metallica's October 26th show in Des Moines. The price only came to about $70 after all the service charges, but I did choose will call to get my tickets, so that saved a little scratch.
I can't wait. Been wanting to see Metallica for a long time. :)

Just got back from seeing Kings of Leon with The Whigs and We Are Scientists. Excellent show, and the Kings played an extended set since it was the last show of their tour and they were back home in Nashville. Did a nice mix of all four albums.
Other than this show, I've seen Jack's Mannequin twice in the last month, once in Atlanta, once in Anaheim. Great shows both times, the Atl show was the kickoff of the tour, and Anahiem was a OC/hometown vibe show. He covered Something Corporate, the Boss, and MGMT.

93.7 (KRXX) announced this past weekend that Metallica will be coming to the Twin Cities on Tuesday, October 13th 2009. Tickets go on sale on Saturday, April 4th.
I WILL BE ATTENDING this concert. First time I will have seen Metallica since 2000.

U2's first show at Gillette Stadium sold out in less than 10 minutes, so no luck there. They added a second show and a local radio station gave out the presale password. So on September 21st, I'll also be seeing the TBWOGS. Can't wait.
In the meantime, I'm going to see if I can score Kings of Leon tickets at Boston University.

I was in right as they went onsale too. I'll see if they saved any good seats for the regular folks when the full sale goes tomorrow, if not, no Metallica for me.

Metallica was the first metal band I got into growing up, but I haven't seen them live since 95 or so. I think System of a Down and Limp Bizkit was the last concert I saw back in 99. Just not my cup of tea to see bands live anymore. Did Fred Durst die or something? meh

Thinking about picking up some tickets for Coldplay when they're at SPAC here in June.
They're not my favorite band, but I saw them back in 2003 while they were supporting Rush of Blood to the Head and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen in my life. I think my chest is still hurting from the bass at that show.
Plus, that show was crawling with chicks.

Some band I've never heard of, and some Pete Yourne guy thats apparently popular with Tweens, because my sisters have heard of him. My buddy caught them in concert the other night on one of his HD channels and said Vince Neil's voice sounds horrible and you couldn't hear him well over the instruments. I've noticed the same thing when I've caught them on VH1's Classic in Concert. Some of that could just be the TV mix, but I'm highly doubtful with it being HD.
So, I'm kind of sad that I'll probably not be going, but yet happy that I won't be dropping $100+ on a concert.

things have probably changed since the girls girls girls tour when i saw the crue, but i was actually kinda surprised what a tight band they were. prior to going, me and my friends had always wondered how a group of guys who could barely sing and play their instruments (except for tommy) could have ever become famous.

Pearl Jam is amazing (thank you Scott) and just a fantastic show.
For me, the only show on the slate thus far is AC/DC in August (5th row on the floor). I'm going to try and get tickets for the ZZ Top/Aerosmith show now that they've dropped prices. Also still trying to get in for the Metallica show in October.

I'm going to see the Moody Blues next month as my five year wedding anniversary from my wife. I'm really excited about it. It's cool to see the classics before they die. And then were just stuck with the "musicians" that make music nowadays.
It was really cool to see 60+ year olds doing what they've been doing for 40+ years so well. Really cool!!!!!

I went to see the Aquabats at Magic Mountain last saturday. That show was epic! Catboy and Chainsaw were back. Christian "Bat Commander" Jacobs was in fine form. We had front row seats. I just didn't know we were in the "splash zone". It was a great way to end a fun day at the park.

This was my first time seeing PJ, but having listened to concert bootlegs for over 15 years I can say that they still have the same passionately angst ridden sound that attracted me back in high school and I'm quite happy to have gotten the opportunity to finally see them live. Definitely going to see them again the next time they roll through town.

This was my first time seeing PJ, but having listened to concert bootlegs for over 15 years I can say that they still have the same passionately angst ridden sound that attracted me back in high school and I'm quite happy to have gotten the opportunity to finally see them live. Definitely going to see them again the next time they roll through town.

I've been attending concerts and festivals ever since my brother convinced me to go to the Dynamo Open Air festival here in Holland in '95. Well, with the likes of Fear Factory, Machine Head, Life of Agony, Type O'Negative and an infamous one time performance by Nailbomb, I quickly became addicted to live music.
Anywho, I got a ticket to the Wolfmother concert in Amsterdam (which sold out in minutes) on Oct. 15, Let'z Zep in March (THE Zep coverband) and Machine Head/Hatebreed/Bleeding Through/All Shall Perish in February.
Late August I attended a German festival called Area4, featuring Deftones, Life of Agony and Faith No More. Here's (http://picasaweb.google.com/remco.zwart/FestivalArea4082009#slideshow) a couple of pics from that event. Yes, there are scantily clad ladies, because it was scorching hot :P

Speaking of cover bands, I normally have no interest. But Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands, and I'll obviously never be able to see the original line up, and it's doubtful I'll ever see them in any incarnation. So when a radio station ran a promo for $10 tickets to see The Australian Pink Floyd Show (http://www.aussiefloyd.com/), I bit.
I have pretty low expectations, but has anybody seen them? How is it?

Haven't seen them, but apparently Let'z Zep's so good, they performed live at the release of Mothership.
Another cover band that really impressed me, is The Perfect Tool. Saw them for a couple of buck in the hottest and smallest of venues, but they're good. Even the members from Tool applaud their performances. Says enough.

Saw U2's second showing last night at Gillette Stadium. Incredible show and well worth the price of tickets. Snow Patrol opened and played a pretty good set.

The biggest thing around here this summer was the Summer Slaughterfest, headlined by Necrophagist and Suffocation. Necrophagist was unbelievably sick.

Sure they were a fairly big ska band about ten years ago. They were always played on the radio. Now the lead singer is the exec producer of Yo Gabba Gabba.

Saw Star Wars in Concert last night. It was a really fun show. It was the story of star wars narrated live by Anthony Daniels complete with a live orchasta. The video screen was extremely clear and the lasers and fire effects were fun. One interesting thing was they showed scenes of the jedi council in Episode 1 with a CG Yoda!

I went to the Wolfmother concert in Amsterdam on the 15th. A great gig and even more so, since I was able to take my DSLR with me, without any harrasment by security folks. I was able to take great shots from the band, much better than my old 3.2 megapixel Canon compact cam.

I caught one of the debut shows in Vegas last February and although I'm a pretty hardcore Tool disciple and Maynard fan, the show kind of sucked. I was extremely disappointed. He's coming through Salt Lake twice in November, and I decided it just wasn't worth it (I did go to the Puscifer store and Caduceus Cellars winery in Jerome, AZ a couple weeks ago, though).

Went to see Puscifer last night and it was incredible. I laughed and was amazed at how good Maynard sounded for the small second set. He has not sounded that good in about 10 years and he looked like he was having fun.

DAMN! A brief tour of a few cities has been announced where Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck will be co-headlining. Clapton seems to have been having a bit of a resurgence with his live gigs since doing the Cream reunion. And his tour with Steve Winwood was pretty good. And Jeff Beck's been on a bit of a roll since he played the 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival, and more recently playing at the 25th Anniversary Concert for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
When you add in the Yardbirds connection? These shows might be really, really cool. Especially if they can persuade the third Yardbirds guitarist of note, Jimmy Page, to make an appearance. I'm going to try to score tickets for the shows at Madison Square Garden. They'll also be playing Toronto, Montreal and London.

Secured Maiden tickets today, third row in section 107 which is the first section to the side of the stage, perfect seats for those disinclined to the pit. Much better seats than last time.

Fan club only costs about $15 to join, gets you tickets 2-3 days ahead of time. The tickets I got were exactly where I wanted them to be for this show. Contemplating going to The Commitments next week, but not sure what the makeup of the band is.

Just got back from The Commitments, holy hell did that place rock! The seat I had was awesome & the people I got the ticket from were fantastic, Commitment groupies they are & the beer they bought me was sweet. ;D
Had a blast, 1st time at the Festival Place & it was perfect. Sort of a mini Vegas set up, some tables close to the stage, rows of seats behind, booth seating on the sides (table with 4 seating were I was) & a 2nd level but all the seats look great. Even got to meet the Commitments after the show. :o 8)
The lady I got the ticket from bought them 6 months ago when they went on sale & I only found out they were coming when Brent mentioned it here, IOU. ;)
I would go see them in a heart beat. 8)

Pretty cool if you're on the floor but I have no desire to wrestle with drunken headbangers anymore - I'm a passive drunk these days. Thanks. I'm relatively new to buying good seats to these things. The venue has two different seating charts on the Ticketmaster site... one with an open pit up front, and one without it. The pit version has rows starting with the letter R and the non-pit version starts with A. Given that our tickets are G, I think it's safe to say that they're putting seats in for this one.
That said, I'll check into it to make sure everything's like I think it is. As soon as their forum comes back online... ::)

Yeah, the Maiden boards are horribly unreliable. One of those days was the days the Canadian passwords came out. Mild panic there as I didn't get my password early enough for the previous concert and I was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the crowd.

Okay, last Saturday I went to see Letz Zep, a very good Zep cover band. Sure, the singer didn't sound 100% like Plant, but the four of them really put on a groovy show. Very cool to hear timeless songs live like that.
The following Sunday I saw the FLC put on their best show ever. And I can tell, because I've seen 'em like 17 times. Except that one time we went to the venue to find out they were..... stuck at the airport :-\
And the next day I saw the FLC again, playing a slightly different setlist, but equally outstanding. These guys just know exactly how to put on an excellent show and throw a big party 8)

Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited about it, but I want to hear the classics... I say play more songs if you have to. Your vantage point looks great. I'm apparently in the pit. I have seat numbers, but my buddy tells me that it's an open floor. The show here is on the 18th. I'm still excited to see them again.
I bought a lot of concert tickets in the last week or two....
DEVO is coming on August 5th... the Black Keys are coming a day or two later and the girlfriend wants to see them.
And KISS is coming back on September 3rd (I think it's the 3rd). We got row 22 in the center section for that.

I can post a set list for you if you want? It's been pretty consistent so I imagine you'll get about the same. Or you can just dig through the Maiden board and find one there too.
The Pit in Winnipeg was huge; apparently the biggest on the tour so far. Apparently it often is set up like the map you posted - small with seats on either side. But for Winnipeg the entire floor area from the front of the stage back to the end seats in the arena was all pit, so well over a thousand people there. It was pretty nutty to watch.
Our seats were pretty much perfect from my standpoint. I'd rather be on the floor out front for any show but only if there are seats that are assigned. So we were off to the side of the stage and up just far enough to see over the bank of speakers on the left side. There was a little we couldn't see at times and we couldn't see the drum kit at all, but we could see backstage so it was most excellent.
Oddly I have no tickets for other shows now. Neil Young is playing a couple of shows later in July, but I'm in Vancouver that week so I'll miss that. I might get Kid Rock/Bon Jovi tickets for free and I'd be happy with that price but otherwise won't go to that show. They haven't announced much for the fall here at all which is quite weird and I have to wonder if that wasn't somehow tied to hockey and NHL possibly coming back because September - November is usually when we see a ton of shows. But I assume they'll announce some other shows sooner rather than later. Roger Waters has been hinted at a bunch for The Wall tour, so here's hoping.

I had a blast. It wasn't the set list I'd have written, but it was still great. I was probably about 25-30 feet away from the stage in the middle of the pit... it was loud... they sounded fantastic.
The only negatives for me were that I think Dreamtheater is pretty bad, and there was no giant animatronic Eddy at the end...

Whoa, no Eddie? We got Eddie but none of my pics turned out unfortunately.
Did you have seats in the pit or just standing room only? And if the latter, how was it. Our pit looked rather unenjoyable unless you were 200 + lbs.
BTW, we never got Dreamtheater here, the only tour stop without them but we got something even worse. We skipped the opening act and chose to drink more beer elsewhere, but our opening act lasted only 20 minutes and got boo'd off the stage after being pelted with beer during their set. Ouch.

Yeah, there was a smaller animatronic devil for Number of the Beast and there was an Eddie in a big costume sort of thing... a guy on stilts. No giant one though, I was surprised by it. If they had it in Canada, they probably had it here. Maybe it was broken.
We did NOT have seats despite my ticket having a seat number on it. It was crowded, and incredibly hot in there, but it wasn't too bad as far as people bouncing around. Everyone pretty much stood in their place and didn't run around or anything. I did manage to get pictures and some videos, once I get them out of the phone I'll throw some up here.
I'd never been to the venue before, so while we were there we checked out where our Kiss seats are... row 21 (U), center section. They're pretty solid, and we have proper seats for that one, which I think will be good.

Two questions here...
I'm considering going to see Ozzy/Slash in January when they are here in Dallas together. Has anyone seen Ozzy before and was his concert good? I'm assuming it was.
Slash is out pushing his solo album and is opening that night. Has anyone seen the solo performance? If not, how was he live with VR and GnR? I'm assuming VR was pretty good with him being most of the way "clean" at the time.

I saw Ozzy about 10-15 years ago on the first tour with Zakk Wylde. He was pretty terrible...forgot the words, didn't move around much except to clap, just kind of lame and lifeless show overall.
That was waaaay before the TV show though, so maybe he has improved/cleaned up his act since then...
I just bought tickets for a killer show next week - epic Bay Area Thrashers FORBIDDEN have reformed and are doing a one off show here in VA prior to their Fall tour with Overkill. All-time favorite metal band, hands down.

Ya I saw Ozzy about 15 years ago too with Korn & Megadeth (I think it was those three) He sure does like to clap a lot and not much else - but had a good voice to him and the audience was very engaged.

Thought I'd bump this up.
I went to see Ozzy with Slash opening.
Slash was pretty good but it took a couple of songs for him personally to get going. His singer for this tour is Myles Kennedy. He did great with the vocals, but not so much on showmanship. I'd give the overall performance a B or a B-. I really expected a lot more, but I guess a lead guitarist can only do so much. People got pretty fired up about the old GnR stuff, but not very much for his new stuff and he only played one VR song. As I was watching the GnR stuff get played and people got going, it made me wonder what it must have been like with the old band and Axl on lead. I bet places they played went nuts.
Ozzy was freakin' awesome. He came out, got everyone fired up and sang his ass off. The old fat man did a great job. He had a foam cannon that he kept blasting himself and those up front with. His band was incredible and he fed off them and the crowd fed off him. His performance was a very solid A in my opinion.

I haven't gone to a concert in probably a decade, so when I heard that Motley Crue and Poison were touring together this summer, I couldn't resist. Motley Crue was the only band I didn't get to see back in the height of the hairband era (I saw Poison on their 'Look What the Cat Dragged In' tour with Ratt). I'm sure it's not going to be the same as what Motley and Poison were in their prime, but I'm still pretty stoked to get to finally see Motley and catch Poison again. This was my birthday gift this year from my wife, so that will make it even more enjoyable. The show is June 25, so I still have a while to go, but I'll make sure I give a full report.

I went to see Motley Crue about a week ago when they were here in Dallas. All I can say is the concert was bad ass. It was funny seeing the people there who are still lost in the 80's. I'm not talking about the music, but the way they dressed. It wasn't just mock dressing, but truly what they wear.
Anyhow, the Crue was awesome!! I was a bit disappointed Mars didn't do a guitar solo, but the crowd was rocking, the fireworks were great and it was good to hear my all time favorite band tearing up the stage.

Went to see Seasick Steve last Friday. Damn, probably the best concert I've seen this year! Support act was a Dutch blues singer by the name of Qeaux Qeaux Joans. Not too shabby either.

We don't get the show until June 1st, so you'll have to tell me. I've heard nothing but good reviews thus far from folks who have seen it. I think it's a mindset kind of concert where you have to be prepared for the type of show it is. I believe certain mind altering drugs aid in the enjoyment of the show.
Not a lot of shows coming to Winnipeg this year it seems. I'm hoping to score some tickets for B.B. King though.

Caught Megadeth @ The National here in Richmond last night. Not really a fan of the more recent stuff, but it's always good to hear stuff from the first few albums.
I guess it has been awhile since I have been to a concert, noticed a few new trends I do not like.
1) $42 for a ticket?!?! I paid half that much to see Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth AND Alice In Chains back in the day. All they had for an opening act was some crappy local band that won some contest. What exactly am I paying for here? A giant video screen? Someone's monstrous coke habit?
2) No encore? My friend says he is noticing this more and more too. I thought an encoure was a given, but I guess $42 only buys you an hour and twenty minutes of music now.
3) Dbags in the audience holding up their $#&* phones to film the show that is going on right in front of them. They need to designate a special section of the venue for these tools, I swear. Every other person around me was throwing up an iphone in my face trying to get that perfect angle. Put your phone away and just pay attention. If your friends couldn't go to the show, f'em, you dont need to film it for posterity.

I was still a little groggy when I posted that, but I'll just say, it was far and away the coolest thing I've ever seen. So much more than a concert...it was a whole theatrical performance. The meaning has changed a bit, too, so there is more than just spectacle. Instead of being almost self-indulgently introspective about the difficulties of being a rock star, it's taken on a bigger meaning about society and togetherness in spite of institutional and commercial forces. It was just amazing, and really a dream come true to have seen.

Rock Am Ring in Germany was great. Awesome performances by the bands of old, like Metallica, Machined Head, Lamb of God. I'm not much for alternative rock anymore, but Shinedown put up a good show. Tenacious D was hilarious and man, do they have a fanbase in Germany! Unbelievable!
Skrillex was also there. My buddy's all over that guy, but I just don't get it. I mean, R2-D2 can do the same trick.
Anyway, I'm super happy my home town has a genuine, decent venue now (www.metropool.nl). I used to drive 100 miles to Amsterdam to see live music, but haven't been there in a long time, now that I can just hop on my bike and go see whoever I like. Prices are still really fair as well, so I'm gonna see Fear Factory, Soulfly, Gov't Mule for sure :D

Saw Neil Young and Crazy Horse last night. Pretty damn enjoyable. Not the most rambunctious crowd I've been a part of, but most everyone in my area seemed to enjoy the show.

I can't believe I'm just seeing this. We actually debated taking my daughter when they were here in Dallas. However, tickets were over the top expensive and my daughter's interest was starting to wane.

A little late in adding this one, but last month I got to attend Love for Levon at the New Jersey Meadowlands. It was a tribute to the late singer & drummer of The Band, Levon Helm. Levon passed during the spring, but his dying wish was that his friends and family keep his Woodstock, NY barn / studio running, along with the series of performances called the Midnight Ramble.
This was really an amazing experience, and one of the more moving concerts I've ever attended! Especially when you look at the roster of artists who turned up:

The Wallflowers opened and they sucked (played 6 songs and were out for 45 minutes) but Clapton tore the house down... played for around 2.5 hours and played all of his big hits, plus a few of the blues songs I'm not familiar with. Brought Jimmy Vaughn on stage for a Stevie Ray tribute song at one point.
Money WELL spent.

I've seen Clapton a couple of times over the past few years. First with Cream at one of their MSG reunion shows, and in 2010 at the Crossroads festival in Chicago. And he did not disappoint! I'd love to see him this time out, but concert tickets are a bit pricey.

I've got tickets for a couple of pretty cool shows coming up within a couple of weeks. First, Elvis Costello & The Imposters! I've been wanting to see him live for years, and tickets to this show were a pretty amazing Christmas gift.
Later on that same week? The Allman Brothers Band at NYC's Beacon Theater. When word came out that the two guitarists for the ABB would be leaving the group at the end of this year I saw the writing on the wall that this could be the end of the Allmans. So I was determined to get tickets to see the Allmans during their month-long residency at one of the best venues in New York. Tickets went fast, but I was able to get them. And sure enough, after we got tickets the news came out from Gregg Allman that the ABB would cease touring at the end of this year, which marks their 45th anniversary as a band.

I haven't bought my tickets yet, but am planning to catch the Crue when they are here in Dallas in July. My only sticking point is my wife and I are taking my daughter to Disney World for her first time and that will also be in July. Caught Elvis Costello & The Impostors over the weekend. Great show, but surprising, too. I've always been struck by how thoughtful and eloquent Elvis Costello is offstage, and I thought he would talk a little bit between songs. But Saturday night in Atlantic City? Not at all! He was all business, charging through his set with nary a break between songs except to change guitars a couple of times. And his guitar playing was far more adventurous and aggressive than I've ever heard on a recording.
He's actually playing locally tonight too, just outside of NYC, at the newly renovated Capital Theater. But this time he's going to be backed up by The Roots!
Me? Not going to be there. Because I'll be checking out The Allman Brothers Band! WOOHOO!!!

Saw Black Sabbath last week and I have to say, they were fantastic. Ozzy was a bit out there for sure, but held it together for the most part. Tried to walk off the stage about half way through and I really do think he thought the show was over at that point. :D

I can't wait to see them again. They did one of their photo-op / meet-and-greets (I guess they call them Convocations) at a record store down the street from my house that morning, so a few guys from work and I went down and met them. They were incredibly nice. Also, probably nothing will come of it, but we put together a pitch for a music video and I handed it off to their tour manager... long-shot for sure, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

They're a Swedish metal band... but also kind of poppy... also kind of hard to describe. Character-based like Gwar or KISS, there are theories but no one officially knows who's in the band.
Singer only appears in public in a mask and suit as an old Italian guy, then that mask gets make-up to turn him into this Papa Emeritus character for the shows.
Worth checking out, and incredibly entertaining if you're not generally offended by sacrilege.

Back from the concert. Oh good god! What a ******* show, the best I have seen! They ran a 1/2 hour late but who cares. After basically a hat trick of concerts here with Buble, Cher & now Queen, they came out with the Good, the Better & the Best. These Are the Days of Our Lives brought tears, it was hard. In fact I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. The coliseum rocked all night & Lambert with Who Wants to Live Forever, you made Freddie proud.. all of us proud. :) 8)

Most recently the Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Belgium, with awesome performances by Sabbath, AiC, BLS, Zombie, Sepultura (man, Andreas Kisser hasn't aged a day ;D ), Mastodon and Ghost.. Limp Bizkit was a big disappointment.
Last week Machine Head, their only club show in Holland this year, until it was announced a few days ago, that they'd be back in another town in December. Hard to believe they've been at it for 22 years! They totally tore up the insanly hot venue.
This Sunday I'll go to X-Rock in Germany. Guess who's playing? Machine ******' Head ;D Also Amon Amarth, Life of Agony and Airbourne, plus a couple of others.

Most recently the Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Belgium, with awesome performances by Sabbath, AiC, BLS, Zombie, Sepultura (man, Andreas Kisser hasn't aged a day ;D ), Mastodon and Ghost.. Limp Bizkit was a big disappointment.
Last week Machine Head, their only club show in Holland this year, until it was announced a few days ago, that they'd be back in another town in December. Hard to believe they've been at it for 22 years! They totally tore up the insanly hot venue.
This Sunday I'll go to X-Rock in Germany. Guess who's playing? Machine ******' Head ;D Also Amon Amarth, Life of Agony and Airbourne, plus a couple of others.

Dynamo? I'm impressed you know of it :D Sadly, Dynamo is no more. Last time was in '99 and by then it had already been stripped down to a much smaller festival :( But Belgians know how to party, nevertheless. Graspop is our new home >:D
I'm not a fan of the 'new' Sep, but it's great to hear them live, especially when performing the old Sep songs. Funny you should mention a possible reunion, because when asked which bands the director of Graspop would ultimately want, he replied the old Sep lineup. And Pantera.
In the meantime I've scored tickets to a concert on Dec. 4. Band is called Machine Head. Support by Devil You Know.

That's awesome Rob. When Relapse first signed those guys years ago it was off a performance at some guy's house party in PA. Blew everyone away. I think they were one of the first bands to get slapped with the "Math Metal" label, which I love.
And yeah, I need to move to Japan too. I could literally quit my life and become a BabyMetal groupie.

For sure. The band I was in back in college played a show with them in Baltimore. Would have been 2002-ish. I'd never heard of them, and had never seen anything like it. Total insanity. At one point I remember the bass player breaking the head of his guitar off on some guy's head - total accident, he was just going crazy with it and hit this guy so hard that it broke right off. He must have had a string lock or something because everyone just carried on like it had never happened.
Saw them again a few years ago here with Darkest Hour and for how awesome I think they are, Dillinger's set was so much more over the top that it made Darkest Hour look like a bunch of school girls.

Oh man, how did I not remember to post about this show? Freaking awesome, as AIC played pretty much all of their hit songs, and 90% of it was stuff from the Staley years. Picked up an awesome poster (http://i.imgur.com/T1CfE9q.jpg) at the show too.

Starting off my year of concerts, I saw Garth Brooks/Trisha Yearwood this past Saturday night. 9 shows sold out, this was his 3rd showing plus his 1st of a double back to back showing & it was electrifying. From start to finish, 20,000 plus fans standing, dancing & singing & of course drinking. ;D I have been to many other concerts over my years but Garth Brooks show has to be the best I have been too. He's funny as hell & where does he get all that energy from.
Still have Queen with Adam Lambert, Guns N' Roses & Roger Waters to see this year...

-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers 3 days after that 7/20
-Imagine Dragons 10/29 (my oldest son's first concert, will be a birthday gift)
And I'm actively looking for good prices for Billy Joel at Fenway (I drug my wife to both Pearl Jam shows there last summer and kind of have to pay her back) and U2 Joshua Tree tour.

Saw Testament, Prong and Sepultura a few weeks back. Testament headlined and was crushingly awesome. Prong wasn't bad either despite not playing any songs off the first album. Sepultura was as god awful as I imagined they would be. Boring as hell if they weren't playing Max's songs. Sad.

Heading up to DC. Next month to see U2 at RFK Staduim for the 30th anniversary of the Jishua Tree tour. Saw them 30 years ago at RFK. Some of the original group of us are getting together and going. God - I sound old.....

I was in Los Angeles over Labor Day weekend and had the opportunity to see the man himself, John Williams, conduct the LA Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl! The show was AWESOME!
First hour was David Newman conducting. They performed the main theme from Robin Hood (1938), Dracula (1979) and performed live music to the Judy Garland number from A Star Is Born, along with some other minor music.
Then after intermission, John Williams comes out. It was an awesome scene, with every kid in the crowd igniting a toy lightsaber! He started with a minor chase song from Indiana Jones, followed by some minor themes from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He then introduced the Harry Potter themes, which were HP and the Chamber of Secrets, Aunt Marge's Waltz, and the main HP theme.
Then, he brought out Kobe Bryant to narrate an animated short film about his basketball career, which Williams conducted music for!
Then came Star Wars! He teased playing some TLJ music and then said "I'll wait until next year." Ha! They performed the Scherzo for the X-Wings from TFA, Rey's Theme, then the Star Wars main theme with ANH intro and ANH end credits.
After that I was geeked and didn't really pay attention to the next song, and then they performed the Imperial March!
Encore was the Superman theme, after which Williams told the kids in the crowd it was past his bedtime.
An awesome show in a beautiful venue!

Took my fiancee to see Janet Jackson last night. :-\ She enjoyed it but i wasn't a fan (not a fan of her music in general). My biggest issue was the fact that she only sang a few songs and let the tape do the rest.

MAGFest (Music And Gaming) rolled through town last night and I discovered one of the most amazing bands I have heard in a loooong time: Random Battles
They are from Baltimore and play insane, mostly instrumental prog metal covers of classic video game soundtracks. The arrangements and musicianship were top notch. I was blown away, bought both of their releases (Dark World is the new one) and a T-shirt as a show of support.
Great live show too!

Generation Axe tour featuring Steve Vai, Yngwie J Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, Nuno Bettencourt and Tosin Abasi blew through town last night. Almost four hours of continuous shredding! One of the most incredible shows I have ever seen. Steve Vai is not from this planet.

Maryland Deathfest has officially kicked off! Drove 300 miles round trip last night (Baltimore) for the pre-fest show just to see Sweden's Naglfar. After 20+ years following this band, finally seeing them live was incredible.
But yeah, definitely too old for this late night shiite now... :-X

As someone who mostly just goes to small club punk rock shows... I'm on a weird stadium ticket buying kick right now.
I saw KISS on Thursday, allegedly their last show will be tomorrow, so they only had 3 left after that one...
I bought Iron Maiden tickets for next October
Greenday / Rancid tickets for next August at Wrigley Field
And because it might be my last chance and I never saw them, I just picked up nosebleed Rolling Stones tickets for next June.
