Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Infidelity.....what say you?
« on: April 24, 2006, 01:55 AM »
I've thankfully not had it happen to me (that I'm aware), and wouldn't wish it on my enemies even...  It's just one of those things I think is a deal breaker.  I've got a jealous streak, I tend to keep an eye on who I date...  They also know it is a deal breaker for me, and I don't accept cheating.  I also like it to be known that I can be hurtful when I am tread upon, and only ask that who I date respects me enough to leave me if they really aren't happy with me, and let it be done and over with.

It's one of the worst things you can do to someone else I think...  Not to mention the dangers involved in this day and age...  I put a lot of effort into relationships, so I really do expect to be respected in them...  I've been with the girls who don't, and they're quite easy to walk away from no matter what qualities I saw in them to be attracted to them in the first place.

And also...

WTF Force Guy, where've you been?  Welcome back.

Welcome aboard Roton...  Most of the people over here have been to, or are active at Scum on some level or another, though a lot of us where there a LONG time ago...

Enjoy the boards, we're quite active, lots of good discussions going on in all areas...  If you have any questions just ask.

Conventions / Re: 2006 Pittsburgh comicon
« on: April 23, 2006, 08:13 PM »
I got a report from my buddy that went Friday...  I didn't go either Jades, and I'll give details why when I get a moment.

EDIT:

So anyway my buddy went to the con...  He said admission was $17, which was pretty sky high IMO.  I mean, the toy show has a lot more to entice me here (at the same con center) and to get in early it's only $10...  I don't know if Comic-Con does less foot traffic or not though, or if their overhead is really just that much more...

He said he was there and that they had a weird mix of vendors...  Hardly any toys, and what they did have wasn't really all that good I guess...  He said the vendors were a weird mix though, and they had like some woman selling crafts.

He said the SW guests signing stuff were cool if you hadn't seen them before but that they had "people" outside of them that wouldn't allow you to really talk to them, or get pictures which I guess they've been able to get in the past.  THe guy I talked to was gonna have someone (one of the SW actors) take a picture with a sign for Bill Cable's site, and to just get a picture with the actor they told my buddy it was going to cost him.  So out of principle my friend didn't bother and left dejected at the whole situation since he said they're more accessible other times he's met the actors.

So I don't know...  $17 was enough for me not to bite honestly...  It's a 50 minute drive for me to the con, and I only wanted one autograph at it, so I'm looking at 1/4 or 1/2 tank of gas, $17 to get in, $20 for an autograph, $5 for the photos they sell you to get autographed...  And the stuff I'm generally enticed with like a good toy/collectibles show or whatnot was just not there...

It's tough to put the shows together though as mousedroid has told me, so I can empathize with that, but for me it wasn't financially worth it to go this year.  I doubt I go ever actually unless the entry fee comes down to at least $10.  Even then I'll be irked if I paid $10 and got the run-around from some show volunteer telling me not to speak to the stars...  In the past I've had some great conversations with the actors so that would've bothered me tremendously.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Casting of the Twins - wip
« on: April 21, 2006, 03:26 AM »
N/P.

I measure it in like liquid measurement, then I have a scale of liquid needed to do general sizes/shapes so I cut down as much as possible, however I'm off at times.  I usually make a little extra for that, but it's noticeably less than I have done in the past.

I actually started doing that when I used other resins that measured unequal...  The technique stuck with me then was all.

Star Wars is forever...  or so we've been told.

I wonder if Nader or Perot got T-Shirts?

Yours should read "I ran for president and all I got was this T-Shirt and an overly expensive membership to a POS fan club".

Power of the Jedi / Re: Best POTJ Fig?
« on: April 21, 2006, 01:06 AM »
I assume he's talking about Bespin Escape Lando with his bellbottomed pants...  Disco Lando's more descriptive of the POTF2 Lando though.  THAT was a Lando with Disco Fever. :)

As far as the stance on Pilot Lando, I don't think that really had much to do with POTF2 as a line overall.  It was really actually a bit of an enigma...  One figure out of many in a very wonky action pose.  Besides Lobot, I can't off-hand think of too many exagerrated POTF2 poses...  Death Star Trooper, that's about all I'm able to come up with in the basic line though.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: 2006 TRU Clone Wars Gunship
« on: April 21, 2006, 12:42 AM »
It's hard to take a loss on an item that already is "made" though.  It's a matter of just running it through the factory and shipping it out.  There's REALLY no excuse for the higher cost other than to milk fans for what they feel they can get...  TRU's never been known to come in short on exclusives too, so these could be widely abundant at that price.

Mold toolings are done for the thing...  Production costs are going to be eaten up in a $30 pricepoint, much less a $45 pricepoint, so Hasbro and/or TRU really have a screwjob for the fans on this one as far as the cost goes.

I do similar things to Glassman...  It is a learned art really.

I will say, you should get in the habit of making disposeable mixing cups yourself that have very small measured lines.  What you do is find clear plastic cups, measure one with a series of accurate measured lines.  Your choice then is to measure cups with the FIRST cup you lined (your "master" if you will) inside the others and then use the ones you just measured and toss them...  Or...

put the cup you want to use inside the cup you measured off.  Pour your materials in the cup, using the lines on the cup on the outside (if this makes sense...  it's better if you can picture it).  This is a little technique I use, and all I waste are plastic cups.

I like to pour a lot of casts at once if I can...  Like Glassman said, keeping molds handy that you can use a lot of isn't a bad idea.  If you have like, say, the POTJ Imp. Officer head cast, keep it handy...  It's generic, it fits a couple torso's, it can have the neckpeg shaped to fit a couple others...  Good one to have extra casts of is what I'm getting at.

Or, if you want accessories, do a mold for a random small box or something...  keep it handy, and if you have resin leavin's around, pour it into that mold.  Voila, extra box for your displays.  Can never have too many of those...  Or I suppose you could but at least it's something. :)  Plain boxes usually don't give you de-airing problems either, so you don't have to tend that mold while whatever you are wanting casted in the first place may require your attention more focused.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Terminator Toy Line... 4" Scale.
« on: April 20, 2006, 03:51 AM »
I'm assuming so.  The Hot Toyz SnapKit line has been 1:18 scaled so far...  And the detail is unmatchable really.  I'm guessing they only want to do male Marines right now using the same mold for most of the parts, and maybe Vasquez and that other chick later?  Ripley looks good though...

The construction of the figures isn't the norm for this scale, but it works well, looks good...  Very poseable, if not a tad delicate.

If you haven't got any of these figs Ryan, they're great if you like Aliens and/or Predator films.

Unintentionally, images from Hong Kong Toy Fair leaked out the first glimpse of Hot Toyz's new Snap Kit figures for the Alien Vs. Predator line.  This time, all aliens AND Colonial Marines.  Let the heart attacks begin.

No Vasquez I guess, but that's ok...  for now.  I love the Ripley figure though.  And the rest are amazing too really.  Hot Toyz does good work, definitely worth integrating to your Star Wars Cantina. :)

OOOOooooooo good news is out there my friends.

Series 2 Battle of the Bulge are becomign widely available online for good prices, and when you get a WHOLE torso with some figures, and 2 heads, and lots of gear...  Count me in.  I want a whole case, they're awesome, and I need the Autumn cammo German tankers anyway for my autumn cammo tank.

Now, the juicy news...

BBI has new modern figures on the market NOW, out of the freakin' blue, no words of warning whatsoever.

Among them, new SEALS, new headsculpts...  One guy with bare arms.  New articulation...  no pics yet that I've seen, but holy **** I gotta see these.  BBI's figures stepped it up a notch with their new WOrld War 2 series sporting advanced articulation.  I haven't gotten them yet but it's pretty fantastic judging by the Sherman Tanker.

Now, what could be better than this you ask?

I'll tell ya what...  unintentional pictures of the new Hot Toyz Aliens Snap Kit figures, AND, COLONIAL MARINES!  And Ripley too.  3 Marines, 1 Ripley, shitloads of Aliens, and Aliens fans getting massive erections as the sight of these SUPER detailed, SUPER articulated, SUPER accessorized figures.

Some of the aliens appear to have bullet holes too...  Not just straight re-releases all around.  Nice tough Hot Toyz.

Count me in for two cases of these.  now I gotta get series 2 right quick so I get that Alien Queen to chase Ripley.

I'm on f'n sensory overload right now.  I need to calm down. :)

$2.95, though I did put $20 in on the way home tonight at the last station I saw at $2.89.  Figured it'd be $2.95 and I was below half tank so no sense pissing away $ if I don't have to.

Keep your eyes open.  They should be soon I'd think...  Every WM here seems to have gotten in this mysterious assortment of a larger case of figures.  So there's something to look forward to anyway at WM.

That Mace is a good example Weaver...  So's R5.

This line's put out a WHOLE lotta crap in its decade + on the market.  Completists can weep at the thoughts of what they bought. :)

I'd almost forgotten that attrocious Saga Hoth Rebel Trooper too...  Somehow worse than the POTF2 figures.  Amazing.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: The Saga Collection - The Stands
« on: April 20, 2006, 01:36 AM »
The stands are nice and simplistic.  At the same time though, the stands and minis are a cost...  That's what bothered me about them overall.  Figures have declined in quality this year compared to last, prices went up, and while I like getting stands and minis just fine, I could do without them if it meant better figures or better prices...   :-\
