Title: Van Halen back on the road!
Post by: Jim on March 23, 2004, 10:31 AM
Was really hoping things would of worked out with Dimebag Dave, but it looks like Sammy has worked thorugh problems with Eddie.  What is strange is that there have been rumors of Sammy recording with them for months.  Yet, if you go to the official website: www.van-halen.com there is no pic of him when you click on the band on the main page.  But there are about a dozen confirmed dates.  Whos going?

Here are the confirmed dates:
Detroit, MI
East Rutherford, NJ
Greensboro, NC
Hershey, PA
Kansas City, MO
Las Vegas, NV
Philadelphia, PA
St. Louis, MO
St. Paul, MN
Wilkes-Barre, PA
Worcester, MA

Very disappointing that they aren't getting back with Dave.  With Dave, they are my 2nd fave band of all time.  With Sammy, uh....not so much.
Don't know if I'll go if they come to T.O.  I have seen them with Sammy before.   I could die a happy man if I saw them with Dave.

Hershey, Wilkes-Barre, and Philly but not the Western end for Pittsburgh?

Eddie van Halen can suck an egg.  Or perhaps 2 of them nestled comfortably between...  Ah, nevermind, not worth the effort.  Eddie Van Halen's still a DB though, and as much a coke-head as Dave ever was.  Dave at least had a sense of humor.

Dave made that band. Yes, Eddie can play a mean axe, but it was Dave's antics that put the band over the top.

Add to it their albums with Dave are more fun to listen to than the ones with Sammy. But, 5150 is still my fave VH album.

After twenty years you'd think people would give up on this pipe-dream, I did by `86.  I hate to break it to all the faithful Dave fans out there but a full-blown reunion probably won't happen if it hasn't happened in the last two decades. Sorry. Let's face it, the man was an arrogant prick! Try to find some (really) old issues of Hit Parader, Circus, etc. and read up on why the brothers threw his ass out of the band, He really did have it coming.

Please don't get me wrong, Dave with Van Halen rocks like nothin' else and remains the ultimate Van Halen. However, Sammy with Van Halen was great too, it was just an entirely different animal. To me, it's the same as AC/DC with Bon Scott or Brian Johnson, Iron Maiden with Paul Di'Anno or Bruce Dickenson. They all kick serious ass in their own right. That being said, I won't be seeing VH perform any more regardless of who sings for them.

I'm still waiting for the day when Gary Cherone comes back.

I'll agree with TBone, both versions of VH are great in their own way, but two totally seperate animals.

And Diamond Dave still comes off as a pompous ass to me.

I think the best hope for a reunion with Dave will be the induction ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  The original VH should be eligible next year I believe.
And I can have my pipe dream if I want!  ;D

"Money won't buy me happiness but it will buy me a yacht big enough to park right next to it"
DLR.

That was a quote from rolling stone magazine in all his superficial glory. I loved Dave for what he was an Arrogant SOB that backed up everything he said and if he didn't who the hell cared it was damn entertaining.

I love Diamond Dave I was able to catch them on tour for 1984 and 5150 .  I remember wanting the ukon jack guitar and those floursecent green suspenders like it was yesterday.
