Not one, but two new box sets to celebrate the opening of the updated Star Tours ride at Disney.
I love the box of droids (Hasbro said the suitcases do in fact open up to hold weapons, accessories, whatever), but I'm not sure if I'll pick up the top set. I'd like to get one of those Stormtroopers (I think they called them Skytroopers) and Vader's little platform, but I'm not sure if it will be worth the price just for those two things.

-
Vader's big hover-segeway is interesting.
Glowstick bot!
This where those China ebay sellers come in handy...hopefully.
Utai and the airtrooper I want.
-
I really am liking the 2nd set - and I too am on the fence with the top set.
-
Yeah, so long as these aren't too outrageous, I probably wouldn't mind having at least the 2nd set.
-
The red and grey droid looks like something from Wall-E.
I like both sets, but I probably won't like the price... And since they are probably only going to be available inside the Disney Studios and Disneyland (as opposed to Downtown Disney; I'll be going down to visit my parents this winter and we probably will visit Dt Disney, but not the parks..), I'll probably miss them.
I'm such a sucker for Stormtroopers with unique decos... :-[
-
If you want to unload Vader w/Segway, I'll split that set with you, haha.
-
My guess is they will be $45 each and available in the World of Disney outside the park. The Enginears Toys in DCA will have them too. No rush to get them. When it comes to Disney stuff, they will always have them. If they arn't on display, they will be in the back somewhere.
The Star Tours Boarding Party is still available in and outside the parks for a reduced $35. Those "limited edition - sneak preview - only at CV" StarSpeeder 1000s are clogging up all three stores for $25.
Don't forget about the 3 3/4" scale Star Speeder 1000 Disney will have. THE MOUSE WANTS YOUR MONEY!
-
I may need to pick up the boarding party set. I only wanted the Ewok mostly, and perhaps the employee dude, but $35's more reasonable. I may even have to wait on getting these new sets till down the line and hope for a reduction.
-
Yeah, count me in for one of the Droid sets. That Vader/Fett set is a big pile of stink, but I'm assuming it's only being made because Vader and Fett play a role in the new Star Tours? (I know it's cheap for them to make too, since its all repaints, but still)
-
I would like the droids set as well. ;D
-
Kind of dig the stormtroopers. Might have to pick a few sets up if they look really good in person.
-
I like how these look (especially the droid set), but price is going to be a real factor here.
-
I just want the troopers from the 1st set. I'd like to get the second set though. And extras of the droid to 3PO's right (as you look at it, NOT the FLO repaint), as well as the Utai. And I'd like some extras of those luggage cases too.
-
I am wondering if there is a scale issue on the individual pictures in the 2nd pack. To me, the droid next to the Utai looks like he was made to carry the suitcases. But if the suitcases are as big as they are, or the droid is as small as he is shown, then to me, judging by the picture provided, it looks like the distance between the hands and floor wouldn't be big enough for the suitcases.
minor nitpick - but an observation. but it could just be the pictures of course.
-
To me, the droid next to the Utai looks like he was made to carry the suitcases.
No, that droid is the new pilot droid.
That box goes something like this:
luggage, Docking Droid, Spokesbot Droid (Aly San San), C-3PO (your Star Tours Pilot), Pilot Droid (AC-38), and Utai Baggage Handler.
-
ah, gotcha. thanks!
-
Well I'm willing as usual to pick these things up when they become available. Just pm me your requests.
-
Since Star Tours at Disneyland is openening on June 3rd, I bet the new Star Tours toys will be available then. I'll be going around that time for a press event so if you want those box sets, please let me know before then.
-
As per the front page and such, we got a (albeit grainy, but still decent) loose image of the Utai Baggage Dude.

I like him and the set, I look forward to it. I am on the fence with the Vader set, the platform is the only thing that interests me.
-
I'm in the same boat... I want that platform, and the other pack, but I'm going to wait out everything first and see what goes. I got the last set too early.
-
When you need them, let me know. My house will be going thru an extreme makeover this summer so I plan on living at Disneyland most of the summer. It will easy to pick stuff up.
-
Thanks Paul. For now I'm waiting these out because now I guess you can get the jedi Academy sets cheap... Ugh.
-
Here is a look at the new Star Tours box sets. Each will be $39.99.

Also the new line of die-cast ships for $22.95 for the set. I guess each destination gets its own ship coloring.

What you don't want to pay $10 each for those, especially the repacked Vader, Fett and C-3PO?
At least they are overall less overpriced than, say the GI JOE fan club exclusives.
-
I still want the Droid set! ;D

Regarding the full scale Star Speeder 1000, the Disney blog says:
At the last star wars celebration, it was announced at the disney-run star tours panel that there would be a star speeder vehicle released in large scale in order to fit the 3 3/4″ figures. Is this among the merchandise that will be available with the star tours 2 launch? I’m really looking forward to this one. I think only a preliminary drawing has been shown so far.
@Craig – [wave of my hand] You don’t need to know about the large scale vehicle. I spoke with Brad who confirmed that you will see additional items including the large scale vehicle later in 2011. We just won’t have them ready for the upcoming opening (if that makes sense). I can say that I’ve seen (and photographed) a first, unpainted sample of the large scale vehicle. It is so beyond awesome that it is “beawesome!”
-
Phruby - you rock with the Star Tours intel - thanks for keeping us in the loop! Can't wait to see this "beawesome" vehicle!
-
The Star Trader is open today. All the figure packs are in stock. No Star Speeder playset yet.

Ok. Went last night and talked to the cast members. They said the toys are in the backroom but will not be put out until the ride opens on June 3rd. :-\
-
I am heading down to Star Wars weekends and the opening of the new Star Tours Ride. I'll get some pics and a story up on the front page when it happens.
Thanks,
Jim
-
Master_Phruby, thanks for the updates and confirmation on the big Starspeeder. I am in on both sets and of course that BMF Speeder when they hit.
If at all possible, if you can help me with these like before when they hit I will be sure to compensate you for the bounty (and send payment prior.) Help Master_Phruby, you are my only hope...outside of feebay.
-
No problem. Just pm me a reminder. They get released June 3rd when the ride opens. I wouldn't worry about them selling out. Disney is still selling the boarding party set and jedi training sets so these will be around all summer.

Thanks my friend! I really appreciate it! (Those other two sets were great, I am surprised they are still there)

Rode Star Tours 2 twice earlier this evening. Fantastic it is just amaIng. I hope everyone gets to experience it.
Thanks,
Jim

We have postponed our trip to DL from May to November, so I can't wait to check it out. I'll have to grab that Vader set too.

New loose images of 3 of the figures surfaced... Too bad the little v-shaped droid wasn't one of them.

That would have been nice. I picked up the ACE-38.
-
I am definitley in on both sets, the Stormtroopers are actually decent. I like the two previous sets better than these but these are still nice additions. I am dying to see this scale Starspeeder.....
-
I am probably at least going to go with the droid set - and I am very hopeful about the starspeeder as well
-
I was linked this today from a everything Disney obsessed co-worker "Star Tours opens with a bang" (http://www.mouseplanet.com/9629/Walt_Disney_World_Resort_Update). You can see the box sets on display - unfortunately I am not seeing the Starspeeder.
-
Yeah... Disney already said the speeder wouldn't be ready until the Fall -

Hi MP, Noted, I sent a PM LMK how much and where to send the money. I really appreciate the help!
-
Ok. Here is the deal. You can paypal to paul.hruby@gmail.com $39.99 each set. Once I get them, I'll email you for the tax and shipping charges. I can typically get two of these in one medium size UPS priority mail box. They won't put out the toys until June 3rd when the ride offically opens. The large StarSpeeder 1000 is not for sale until the Fall. We will be going multiple times during the summer so there is no rush. Please remember I can't return these. Please let me know how many of each set you need.
Here is my list so far:
Rob ?
Evenflow 1 droid set paid
Pete_fett 2x both sets
JackofTradze 1x both sets paid
Captain Piet ?

Yeah, you can put me down for one of each set... I'm going to send you the cash at the end of the month.

I picked the 2 sets up when I was at SWW last week, I am not sure if I am going to open them or not. They had a TON of these, not just at hollywood studios, but at 2 of the Downtown Disney shops as well.

I got a chance to ride the new Star Tours last night. Awesome ride! See the review in the Star Tours thread. Anyway, they allowed Annual Passholders to buy the Star Tours figure packs but only one of each. I can have as many as I want after the ride opens on June 4th. So my wife and I bought two sets. These are going to go off to Pete_Fett since he wanted two of each. I will go later in June to pick up the other sets for everyone.
The good news is since I have a premium pass, I was able to use my 20% discount. I'll pass this saving along to everyone.

I sent you money the day before yesterday... did you get it?
Yes I do. Thanks Rob.
-
I got my sets from Paul on Thursday - and I just opened them up today.
I have to say - that the Droid set is the best box set they've offered to date. While I know that there's only two new sculpts in there, these droids are a nice addition to all of the other Star Tours Droids we've gotten so far.
The Vader/Fett/SkyTrooper set is nice - I would have preferred to just have gotten a third SkyTrooper in the set as opposed to a Fett that I have gotten bunches of times before, but I can understand the play-pattern aspect of the set, plus, I'm sure Fett being there has something to do with the new plot of the ride.
Really looking forward to the 3.75" scale StarSpeeder now...
You know - these are the first new items I've gotten in over a month - the latest Clone Wars wave has been a complete no-show in my area - it probably has something to do with the older re-released CW figures in the new packaging CLOGGING the pegs at every store.

Leaving right now to pick up sets for those who have paid.

I've picked up the sets for Rob, Evenflow and JackofTradze. Check your IM for what is still owed (if any) on shipping. I've given everyone the 20% discount I received.
I've checked Enginear Toys in DCA, the World of Disney in Downtown Disney and the Star Trader in Disneyland and found they no longer sell the Jedi Training Academy figure set. However, the Star Tours Boarding party set if still widely available. Only the Star Trader in Disneyland has the Droids/Vader sets. I'm sure this will change after the summer.
-
MP, you are the man!
He is so much the man he sent me $.63 sent back. How much more honest can you get? If that does not speak volumes what does!

Yeah, but he's keeping the luggage cases from the Utai.
Just kidding of course; Phruby has always been a stand up guy and as reliable of a person on the boards that you'll ever find.
-
Thanks you old Wook! ;D
Just got back from the post office. Everything is on the way. We will be going to Disneyland for the summer while the house is being finished so let me know if anybody needs anything else.
-
Paul hooked me up with the Star Tours boxed set that has all the droids in it, and wow is it nifty.
The Utai is a nice variation, as is the WA7 droid. The 3PO is the throw-away but he's not a bad figure, and he's clean, so that's kind of nice. And the two new droids rock. Lots of articulation, lots of details, lots of paint aps (more than most get these days), and I LOVE the hover stands the two figures come with (and desperately need).
OUt of the set though, my favorite figure is the landing droid... Plain? Maybe, but that's what I like about it I think. I like its "OT" look. It's a strictly simplistic design, and reminds me of some of the old ST droids like the welding looking one, or the one that looks like a bunch of plumbing pipes. The design obviously can get re-use too as the window droid from AOTC too, but really for what it is, I love it.
A great set, and nice droid filler for the shelf! now to get that big assed Starspeeder for them to chill out around.
-
now to get that big assed Starspeeder for them to chill out around.
Anyone think we will see it at NYCC? I hope so. Feels like we have been waiting forever for a glimpse of that thing
-
As was noted in the speeder's thread, it's a Disney thing. Kind of bummed we've not heard much on it but as a Disney thing, it'll be on its own time table ultimately.
