The Vintage Collection / Re: 2023 TVC Wave 5? (New TVC Wave 31)

Squad building is a far more reasonable approach these days.  When I was looking through some boxes of figures from the 2006 Saga Collection I saw those price tags - $6.99 each.  It made getting 20 of those 212th Clone Troopers a lot more feasible than now.  When TVC launched in 2010 around $10.99 per figure you felt a bit more of a pinch, but it was still feasible.  But now, spending $14.99 or $16.99 per figure?  It's getting crazy.  And I think things are hitting a breaking point.

Case in point - the VC231 Stormtrooper.  That figure should have sold SO MANY units.  But I think that Hasbro might have felt more comfortable with it as a Walmart exclusive on account of the price hikes.  People bought the VC140 Stormtrooper by the case for some time.  But I think we're seeing those kinds of purchases tailing off because it's simply too expensive for collectors to keep doing that.

I agree. I have to agree though, I do get tempted to get one more case of stormies whenever I'm feeling flush with cash.

That’s why the Stormtrooper army builder set at $40 was a great option. At $10 a figure it was easy to buy 8 of those. Now that these types of sets are $60 a pop, it’s hard to justify.

Sometimes clearance is truly The Way.

TVC reveals will likely include more repaints. And maybe one all new sculpt we will see next year. Sigh…

I have observed enough of the behavior from both Stan Solo and FSB to keep far away from their products. Instead, when I have an itch to buy a custom figure (instead of making my own), a couple guys on IG - hasnotalent and plastic vomit customs - is where I have gone. Above is PVC’s custom Uzay Head Man and Blue Stars with hasnotalent’s Chrome McQuarrie Stormtrooper (you can see some of his other figures in the back). They are all 3D printed with a lot of attention to detail and high quality paint apps. In the case of the custom Uzays they are designed so you can tell they’re not originals which is a big plus. Definitely worth checking these guys out.

Great looking pickups on the Droids and Ewoks Rob. I’ve been surprised at how high those figures have gone up since I finished my set about a decade ago. I often wonder if I was starting now would I be willing to actually finish.

If you need a coin for that King Gorneesh lmk, I have a spare.

Entertainment Earth is shipping Mara Jade. Mine should be coming next week if it does not get stuck in a DHL distribution center…

The peg area for the landing gear is quite small and with 40 year old plastic prone to warping on load, it’s mostly about risk mitigation.

Excellent vintage pickups lately Rob. That Skiff looks great. I would strongly recommend getting a stand for it to minimize wear and tear on the landing gear.

Interesting comments on the Darktroopers feeling light. I always feel like TBS version is too light for what it represents. TVC version does not feel that way though. Looking at the gif and still shots here - https://www.fanpop.com/clubs/the-mandalorian/images/43703796/title/din-vs-dark-trooper-mandalorian-chapter-16-rescue-fanart - I think the figure may just be a tad shorter than it should be but nothing to egregious. It does have an overall nice sculpt and good paint job. Worth the original asking price? No way. Worth the reduced price, in this day and age yes.

Amazon is sending out messages that they are shipping the Darktrooper over the next week. And they have adjusted the price to $19.86 for the figure as well. A Festivus miracle!!

I too saw an empty peg with a price tag on the “collector friendly” end cap at my local Target. I scanned the price tag and it showed nothing in stock at that store or any others in the area. Hopefully though it means these are arriving soon so the online preorders can ship.

Just got my Bespin Guards today sandwiched in a box too small for them both. Thankfully I am opening these guys. Great looking figures that fill out the Carbon Freeze Chamber nicely. One thing I noticed that is odd, the photo for Spinoza is not the same as the actual vintage figure. So does that mean he technically can’t be checked off the “complete the 96” list?

Thanks for sharing those links Jeff  just got one of each.

Vel looks great for custom fodder but not at $15 + tax, so just one of her for the collection.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. Sorry for the late reply but I had actually forgotten that I posted this lol.

You all made great points. My card # isn’t changing, only the expiration date. And of course the CVV is a one time entry, I shoulda remembered that.

Of course Dave is right, there’s a good chance they will mess up my order even without this credit card change. My deluxe Stormtrooper is in limbo, who knows if I will ever see it…
