Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Re: Modular Death Star Dioramas
« on: August 18, 2003, 08:01 PM »
Outstanding work there Muftak. How big do you plan to have the entire set be? Will it encompass such things as a full detention cell hallway, conference room, and/or the hangar bay? Great use of the CD to add effect for the superlaser control room, but wasn't the chamber parallel to the controllers, or was that in ROTJ? I forget....

What about detailing on the outside, will you add anything like gunner stations or the turrets from the trenches?

This looks to be an amazing project, I'd love to tackle it some day. Keep up the great work!

Happy Customizing!
Jason

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Custom Cards
« on: August 13, 2003, 11:00 PM »
valtar, some nice looking cards there. I noticed the FF logo on the backs of some of them, are you a member of the Forgotten Force or did you get those templates from the all powerful FFURG?  ;D

Toy Reviews / Re: Saga TIE Fighter
« on: August 13, 2003, 10:58 PM »
hey it's my review, woo hoo!  ;D

Overall I still do enjoy the new TIE, sure Hasbro stiffed us on the solar panels, but it was a nice attempt at getting TIE's out there for new people. Can't wait to line up all my TIE's in a staging area type diorama....

Power of the Force 2 / Re: EU Figures
« on: August 13, 2003, 10:55 PM »
I had the fortunate chance to find 5 of the 9 EU figs at retail, Luke, Palpy, Leia, Imp Sentinel and Thrawn, of course I had already ordered my EU figs from the Fan Club (back when figs didn't cost an arm and a leg from the FC (not the new ownership, the last 2 owners)). I however only saw the figs at 1 Target and 1 KB, they either got picked up really quick or just never hit my area hard. Still some of my all time fave figs...

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Honest mistakes, or intentional variants?
« on: August 13, 2003, 10:51 PM »
Most of the variations we have seen over the years, especially the Saga variations are not intended to be variations, just continued "accurate and efficient" improvements on figures. For instance the Bloody Stump Luke was altered to remove magnet attachment since the Hasbro magnets could be flaky and kids could more easily lose the hand than with a plastic peg that would hold nice and tight. The Boba Fett coloring issue is probably that the original paint scheme seemed to be of a more greenish hue to the Hasbro developers, but they looked back and said no its more bluish, we should make sure that the figure properly represents the outfit and thus the running change there. Now the Jedi Luke, that's gotta be just a big screwup, there should have been no way that it got passed QA without anyone realizing the wrong hand was painted black. You would think that if it the person who sent the sample to QA for approval didn't know which hand was which, that the QA tester would have, as they should have had much sample photography available. Something went wrong in communications and the factories started spitting out screwed up Luke's until finally someone caught on and they made the change there. As for the antennas on Elan, if they could go back and add them for him, how come the Aurra in the Bounty Hunter 4 pack didnt get an antenna, grrrr

Well as I'm sure everyone's seen on the front page, the Silver Fett's will be going on sale via the Fan Club on Sept. 2nd. Though I'm not personally interested in the figure, it's nice to see that this silver figure won't be sold for 3 times the average retail price of a figure like the Silver Vader. That was one of the many boneheaded mistakes I thought WOTC did while runnign the FC.

A word of warning though, I'm going to guess that the Silver Fett's the Fan Club is selling are leftovers from the convention circuit, and as such may not be the most pristine pieces available, so for all you hardcore minty mint card collectors be prepared. Then again, Hasbro could have produced more just for the FC and they will have untouched pieces available...

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Who's Left From Hoth?
« on: August 12, 2003, 07:39 PM »
Everyone forgot a Rebel on Hoth who got a good chunk of screen time, Wedge's gunner and Rogue Squadron hero, Wes Janson. It would also be certainly nice if we got a Dack Ralter on a single card or as part of some sort of Rebel pilots army builder set. Could you imagine getting say Luke, Wedge, Dack, and even Janson in a 4pack similar to the Stormtrooper set, now that would be sweet!

Vintage Kenner / Re: One leg longer than the other
« on: August 11, 2003, 10:29 PM »
I have a removable limbs C-3PO in the same condition, his left leg is slightly shorter than the right, so he has to sorta lean on Jabba in my Jabba's palace diorama. I always found it to be an interesting quirk and figured that there might have been a difference in the size of molds used at whatever factory my 3PO came from.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Done
« on: August 11, 2003, 10:27 PM »
Nice vintage display case Chris, I've been thinking of doing something like that, but I got most of my vintage mixed into dioramas that I'm not sure I want to remove em all.

I'm down to needing 10 figures (sans variants) from the movie lines. Ok 9, but I think Blue Snaggletooth is sufficiently different from the red figure that it isn't a variant so much as just two figures with the same name. I'm currently in the hunt for Blue Snag, Amanaman, Yak Face, Stormie Luke, Han Carb, Popup Saber R2, A-Wing Pilot, Romba, Lumat, and Imp Gunner. And when I say I'm in the hunt, I mean to say that one day I'll be able to justify spending $40+ for a single figure   :-\

From my experience so far in popping the arms of "action feature plagued" figures is that the "joint" for the arms is obviously not a normal peg, but it is still the general shape of a peg and with a little cutting and sanding you can get  a nice arm to work with. Case in point the left arm for Kit Fitso, I used his arms to make a better Mace Windu, but the left arm was so screwy, the "peg" for the action feature was soooo huge, so I had to do a lot cutting and sanding just to get a good general shape, but once I did get the shape I was looking for, it looked nice and smooth against the Mace torso. I agree with JJ, if you got an extra $2 head on over to KB and grab a Kit and just take him apart and experiment with him, you could get some nice results.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Questions and grime Recipies
« on: August 11, 2003, 10:18 PM »
I'd have to agree with JJ and say altering the pose of the 3PO droids legs will be next to impossible, due to the rigid plastic used, without doing some extensive work to the legs. You could try popping the legs out of the pelvis, then using some sculpey (or other modeling clay) work a new hip region for the droid to get a different stance. I'm not sure what else could help you out in this case, though I just came across an idea as I was about to hit the post button.

Perhaps you could pop the legs off and replace them with a more versatile leg like say a GI Joe figure's leg and then use the removable panels from the Ep2 C-3PO and glue em on the Joe legs and just repaint. Not sure how that would look, but it could be a start to something. Good luck!
