Honorious has a carded spirit Yoda for $288- it looks like we have a new fun chase!
-
I guess I'm not surprised... I'll probably try to pick one up, but I'm most likely going to try to wait for the price to come down a bit. :-\
From the gang at slave1.jp (http://www.slave1image.com/imagebank/MedicomToy/Kubrick/Spirit_of_Yoda/index.html):

Well, not a bad exclusive. Much better that series 2 carderd. But I will have to wait till the price drops a little lower than that.
-
It's definitely a nice addition to the other holo figures we have and I think the card looks great, but there's no way in hell I'm spending $288 on that :o!
-
That is going to be one tough piece to open, but I may have to do it.
-
Grrr... I want that so bad but not for anything close to that price. :'( :'(
-
Looks good. It's an unique OT piece, so I'm going to try to track it down (but not for $300).
-
Excellent piece to add on the carded collection..i'll definitely make a pass on it if its at $300 bucks...sigh.. :(
-
That's a figure I'd really like to get. However, there is no way I'm shilling out that much cash for it. Was this one of those that was given/sold at Parco? Does that mean we assume its limited to less than 1000 or so worldwide?
-
Yes, this is the ultra-limited "Parco" figure (like Han Carbonite was last year). You are safe in assuming that less than 1000 were made.
Despite it starting out around $300, hopefully it will drift down into the $150 range like the '07 Carbonite Han and the '05 Vader eventually did...
-
Well this one i will be purchasing. Let the spending begin.
-
This looks nice, not $288. nice tho. Will wait till it drops in time.
-
Well, I waited about a year to get last years Han in Carbonite. I only paid $125 shipped for him. I'll hopefully get lucky and do the same for this one. Though I'd like to get 2 of it.

Guess who!

The guy has a bottomless pit ::)
-
Here's to hoping my bid holds up!!!
-
Any idea of the production number yet?
I will probably wait on this one to see if it comes down some.
-
Not really, may not even be known. Could be anywhere from 150 pieces to 250 pieces, that's just a guess from past info we found on the net from the past carded Kuby's.

Major Kuby day today. ;D

Yoda arrived heat sealed in a clear bag & it looks like that's the way these were handed out at the Medicom Toy Exhibition. If you look at the back picture on the lower right corner, a TOMY sticker is on the bag.
Another bonus arrived with Yoda, a Medicom Toy Exhibition ticket. 8)

DSJ thats the way my Jorg Sacul came packaged when I bought it.
Did you buy off Ebay?
-
I remember you talking about that clear baggie, yes it was off eBay. Did yours have a TOMY sticker on the bag?
-
I don't remeber if it did or not, it has since been taken out of the bag. It looked almost exactly the same.

I just won one off e-bay for $130+. I don't know what shipping is yet.

Glad it went to someone on the board, I was bidding on it too but couldn't be around to watch the auction today. Congrats!

Do you guys realize how absurd it is for this statement to be true? Insane.

No doubt about it- kubricks are an economy all their own. The positive side is they release far less product (I'm comparing them to Hasbro in my head) and genuinely make some pieces "collectible." No item produced by Hasbro acutally falls in to the collectible definition for more than a very brief period. Even their chase figures settle down to retail when the wave is over. With Medicom, that thing may very well be one of only 100-200 pieces.
Now, with that being said, the recent decision to re-release early series on cards changes that to some degree. I dropped aobu $100 on my loose two red gauntlet Fett a couple of years ago, then he shows up in a carded series for about $100 with everyone else from the set. But, you don't collect these things expecting it all to make sense, because they will throw a curve just to avoid predictability.
But I know exactly what you mean- it is insane what we sometimes choose to call "valuable." Plus his $130 price beat the livin bejeezuz out of what I paid. So, congrats it is!
(And yes I preach patience when buying kubricks, but many sinners preach salvation. ;) )
-
Not many collectors that I know actually have the patience that we all know, deep down, could save us some scratch. But with Kubricks, you sometimes really don't know when something will pop up on eBay again. As you mention, some figures exist in small quantities, but this is exacerbated by the fact that these figures typically have to either be imported or sold by a foreign seller (in Hong Kong or Japan, typically). And with some of the lines that are not popular outside of Japan, you just may not see more than one or two auctions in a given month.
So, unlike what you see with more popular lines of toys, I personally have a tendency to over-react, and to pay more than I should for certain Kubrick stuff. The Star Wars Kubs are relatively easy to find (compared to some other Kubrick lines), but even there, I have seen only 2 regular C-3POs over the last month--one in a lot of series 3 figs, and one that ended today. I think others exercise the same amount of overzealousness that I often do, as indicated by the fact that today's 3PO went for $40 (sadly, I didn't win :( ).
But back to Yoda and some others, the absurd thing is that I actually don't see that price as being unreasonable. When the supply is so low, and when they are so hard to get a hold of, $130 actually becomes reasonable. . .for a 2 1/2 inch toy that was just released. It is not irrational to place such a value on these things, but it is crazy as hell, in my opinion.
-
Actually, I only went that high becuase it's just released. I wanted to wait until it dropped down to around $100.
Thanks for the congrats!
-
Acquired.

Congrats Brent, nice catch.
