2013 Droid Factory = Dead

Not anymore, it's not...

Really strange... these seem to be popping up on eBay in the UK and now there is a rumor/report at Rebelscum (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Hasbro_Legacy_Collection_Droid_Factory_Gallery_And_Additional_Information_164240.asp#disqus_thread) that the 2013 Droid Factory carded figures turned up at some Calendar store and another rumor they may be heading to 5 Below at some point.

That would be pretty crazy if it turns out there is some appreciable quantity of these ready to hit retail 2.5+ years later.  If Hasbro has been holding these this long, what else are they holding?   ???

Remember the Kay-Bee dumps in the late 90's?

So retail wouldn't take them? Or what? I sense another Hasbro half-truth...or "what we told you about Droid Factory was true...from a certain point of view."

Reminiscent of the post Rise of Cobra GI JOE line that was axed with product made, even packaged, because they wanted to dump movie likenesses and go another direction.

Is that Pablo Jill? Didn't get him. I'm not sure I ever saw him.

I saw a set at a comic and toy show this weekend.  I passed on them though.

If they hit 5 below I'm on em like stink on poop.

I see nothing of value here for me.  I went overboard on the Amazon 6-pack of repacks of these when it was super cheap (Red BD, Sandtrooper, TIE Pilot, Utapau Clone, FA4/TC70 Droids).  I stocked up on the Scout Trooper while the Black Series wave 1 was cleared out.  There were lots to be had for $5 or so on Amazon or BBTS.  Not sure I need more of anything else, even at $5.

Buy them.
Wait a few years, try and resell them at 4 times what you paid as "rare cancelled figures"  ::)
Keep listing them for years and years at that same price even though none ever sell.   :P

With most of it being army builders, I'd be open to a lot of things like TIE Pilots and the Sandtrooper.  PT stuff, not so much.  Those two though, I'm in, and I'd consider some of the others even.  I look at my TIE squads as meager.

I got several of these when they were dumped on Amazon, but probably not as many as I'd have liked.  I forget why now though.  I just know I regretted not buying a ton more.

I'd like that Dooku's pilot droid for sure.

It's way past time for 5 Below to get another SW figure dump anyway...I'm getting sick of seeing the same 10 Anakin TCW figures every time I go there.

Oh good God. Ouch. I don't feel that bad though. If you have $7000 to spend on toys then you must be rich enough to not have $7000 mean much to you.

Hahahaha...that's nuts! Ultimate buyer's remorse.

The nearest one of these Go Games kiosks is over 70 miles away...probably not worth it for me. But tempting.

Yeah, price seems to be $20 each...  even if I still needed any of these figures, I still might not buy at that price.  Lucky I have them all I guess. :P

And yeah, that guy who paid $7k on eBay - that's just really bad timing.  :-\

Can't say I feel bad for a guy spending $7k on a modern anything really...  This kinda poop happens.

Yeah, got the news on price and just laughed...  $20/per.  I knew that store was pricey but yeesh.  I almost thought it was mislabeled, but nope.  There are two reseller stores in the mall that had these, and the figures are still there.  Testament to how priced out they are.

Weird though that they surfaced at all.  Just odd.

In case you absolutely need these the complete case is available online (http://www.calendars.com//Star-Wars/Star-Wars-Legacy-Droid-Factory-Figure-Set-of-12/prod201600017916/?categoryId=cat2420031&seoCatId=cat2420031)

$230 for that case?  It's novel that these cancelled figures are seeing the light of day, but they aren't $230 novel.

True, a store in the UK is selling them for £8 each.

Nice opportunity for those carded figure collectors who want [need?] them...   pretty much a pass for everyone else I imagine.

At least the site says they have a free shipping promo going on today (promo code FREE15), so that helps a little.

At that price it appears to be a little more manageable.  With current exchange rates one British Pound costs $1.55.  So right there your cost per figure is $12.40 ish.  You may wind up incurring some exchange rate fees.  I don't know if there would be any additional taxes, and then shipping costs.

Isn't it really random that a calendar store would get a shipment of these things? How did that deal come down?

Go! also sells toys and other stuff...  Some are strictly calendars only though from what I've seen, and pop up at holidays I think.  But like the one at my local mall is a toy store more than a calendar store, actually.  They have SW figures as far back as TVC cardbacks and some Funko stuff, Legos, etc.  Prices blow.  They make KB look like bargain basement.

I'm still a carded collector and these have ZERO interest to me. Perhaps it's collector fatigue, but I'd much rather put that $230 towards another 20 Disney build-a-droids for my collection instead of twelve carded variants of figures I already have.

+1  Every time I see a new post about these I get a little excited to go get them because they're carded and rare, and I haven't bought much star wars in what seems like forever.  But then I look at them and just have no interest.  The Amazon set was so crazy cheap in comparison - I think I already have 3 or 4 of those, so $230 for 6 repacks on new cards just isn't compelling enough. I'd rather do the Disney custom figure thing for half the price.

I'm kind of in awe that some sites are gushing about these and how "cool" they are...  Weren't the figures on the TBS cards cool though?  And we got the BAD's, soooooo...  I don't get it?  ???

If you're that bonered up about the cardback I suppose, but it's nothing that special so I'm kinda confused why anyone would praise a $20 basic figure, at all.  :-\  Not to mention most of these were repaints.

I don't condone buying these at all or supporting the ridiculous price set by go calendar. These are obviously strictly for the most diehard completionists. The only reason I bought them is for archiving purposes and to show the distinct differences between these and the ones released by Amazon.com. It's baffling how Hasbro would redesigned/repackage and reconfigure some of these just for the online sales. It would've made a hell of a lot more sense to just released the entire wave as an Amazon exclusive.

I get the archiving thing Jayson, it is what it is...  To be complete, all that.  And I even understand if a carded guy wanted these because everyone collects differently, and completeness means a lot (even more so to carded guys in my experience).  But I can't see even a carded guy assigning them any kind of "praise" I guess, is what I'm saying.  They'd be a horse pill someone had to choke down for the sake of completeness...  Or in your case, the sake of the site.  You'd have to really REALLY be into that cardback to try convincing people the purchase you made was a wise one if it weren't more a "necessity", ya know?

If anything, I think praising them at the $20 price is kind of like saying, "I accept $20 for repaints/repacks as a great idea!", which seems like a bad stance to take.

JJ, that's the biggest issue I see with this, as well as the overall increase in prices for figures. An acceptance of high prices for low quality or things we have seen before. People ******** themselves over these  figures is nuts, why would anyone want to pay $20 for yet another clone repaint or flaky battle droid?

Yeah, I'd have run...  actually, I did.  I saw these, twice, at my local Go! store and yeah...  Nothing in me would've bought them.  Though they sold out, both times.  I know who bought them and he's flipping them on Ebay with some semi-shady listing wording ("rare", "cancelled", etc.) to make a buck.  It's his side business, in the same mall, so whatever, but yeah...

I was really hoping for $5 TIE Pilots.  Little did I know.  :o

I should've shopped around checking prices on other stuff at the store.  They had a lot of toys but I didn't think to check what they cost before I left.

I'll admit - if they had some sort of Han Solo in this wave, I would have paid $20 for it to keep my carded Han collection complete.

Paying $20 is a really, really dumb idea for most of these.  I feel bad for those who "have" to do it to keep up a complete carded collection.  :-\

I like how these look. Maybe it's just the newness or the comparative blah of TBS.

But, no, I haven't bought any at those crazy prices, and wouldn't keep them packaged if I got my hands on them for cheap.

Oddly enough I ran across the online exclusive wave of Droid Factory figures today at a TRU outlet store.  It's the same wave that was offered by Amazon, but it's still a little odd to see these in stores at all.

Where they did show up proved a fool and his money are soon parted.  :-X

That said, it didn't take too long for them to stop selling there either.

God though I'd stock up on that Sandtrooper if he hit 5Below.  That'd be a fun time cleaning out every store I could like with the Gammie Guard! :)
