What's the reason Vader's hands were lowered in the operating-scene in the final cut of ROTS and TV-ads?
Did the posture look awkward?

Did you read all the "Vader's tiny hands" comments that littered the net after the preview trailer debuted? I'm guessing that was a huge part of it.
But then I think about the Deluxe Wave 2 toy, where his hands are down, which makes me wonder if there is something more to it. I mean, those have much longer lead times, so there had to be reference of the hands down more than a year ago.
Maybe there was more to the scene between where the original "hands-up" shot was and the later "hands-down" shot? Something justifying the arms changing position, and when that was removed, they altered the "hands-up" shot to help continuity?

They could've originally shot the scene with Vader's hands up, realized it looked kinda stupid, and re-shot it with his hands down.
When they made the trailer, they could've just used the earlier footage by mistake. If you watch the trailer for AOTC that you could access with the TPM dvd, they used a differen't "ANAKIN! HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU?!" clip of Obi-Wan, which I thought was better done than what they used in the movie.

Thanks Herbert for helping realize I'm not crazy. When I watched ROTS for a seconed time, I looked for the hands up and was confused when they were down.
Sometime stuff is filmed solely for trailers. That shot was obviously one of them.

Yeah, those early shots with his hands up looked odd... Even people who aren't die-hards were commenting to me how lame it looked. I had seen a shot of him on the table with his hands down so I'd assumed he was being changed.
Those early TV spots made his arms look like twizlers though. :)
