Title: DC Imaginext
Post by: Brian on October 12, 2010, 10:44 AM
I thought I had seen these discussed on here somewhere before, but didn't see them in the DC board (or I missed them).  Anyways, I don't follow the line closely or anything, but we were walking through one of those TRU Express stores this weekend and I saw a Green Lantern w/Jet that I hadn't seen before for this line.  Like I said, could be old news and I'm sorry if it is, but it looked kind of spiffy and I thought I'd just pass it along for anyone interested.  I know sometimes those Express stores have a few different items that you don't see at "regular" TRU stores (our Express stores have the 25th anniversary Turtles line, for example), so I thought I would pass it along just in case.

There has been talk scattered in other threads, but there isn't a thread yet.  We love the Imaginext stuff at our house.  We have huge tubs of Imaginext toys for Dragons, Space, City, Lost World, and DC.  The Imaginext stuff is way superior to the JLU stuff - same level of articulation and way more accessories, playsets, and ships! ;)

The Green Lantern Jet was put out last December I think.  I think we bought it right before or right after Christmas.  The jet was even repainted as a TRU exclusive Robin Redbird Jet over the summer.

That is one of the neat things about the line - all sort of things get re-purposed so there are tons of options.  Examples - the city Ambulance was re-used as a Joker Van and is now shipping again as Two-Face's van.  The Lost World bi-plane became Riddler's bi-plane.  The Ocean World submarine was repainted as Penguin's submarine.  Etc.  Tons of things to buy!

So far they've made figures for:
Good Guys - Batman, Superman, Robin, Green Lantern (Hal).
Bad Guys - Joker, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Riddler, Two-Face.

Coming soon are Kilowog & Ch'p (with a GL/Oa Playset), a Flash & Hawkman 2-pack, and Killer Croc too!

Whoa, I was way late on that then, sorry about that.  Like I said, I haven't watched it closely, so I had no idea.  We've picked up some of the stuff for our nephews (the Batman helicopter and one of the Batmobiles), and they love the stuff as well.  Our daughter, who is way into superhero stuff, has been asking about it more when we see it in stores or on commercials, so we've thought about picking up a set for her to see how she likes it.

That's really cool that they are delving into stuff further, I can't believe they are making Kilowog - that's awesome.

Here (http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/gallery2/album/SDCC-2010-Mattel-Matty-DC-Panel/1279914005-15.jpg) was the (only) pic I saw of the Oa set from SDCC coverage - Mattel buzzed past it since it was sort of a GL sneak peek thing.  Sounds like they are planning some more GL Imaginext stuff for the movie (a la the Toy Story 3 stuff TRU had for that movie).

My 2 year old is all this stuff. We are purposefully not getting him stuff so the grandparents can rest assured they are getting him something he doesn't have. I think Santa is bringing the Batcave.

hawk man will be awesome.

Saw some new (to me) DC sets at Target today - centering around Green Lantern.  They had an Oa set that looked really sweet, as well as a Hal with Robot/Mech suit, and a Target exclusive set with Hal and the Jet (along with Flash and Hawkman).  Our little girl wanted all three, but settled for the cheapest (Hal with Jet) set.  I have to say though, they all looked pretty cool and the line in general is pretty sweet.

Our daughter, who loves superheroes, got some Imaginext (and the Marvel Superhero stuff) both for her birthday and a couple other things over the past couple months - so I've been paying closer attention to this line.  Anyways, I noticed some sets I hadn't seen before at Target today.  They were all in the smaller "figure and accessory" line, and I saw the return of Superman/Krypto, as well as a Catwoman (with cat), and a new (large) Clayface.  Kind of cool.  It really is a fun little line.

There is also a great new Penguin Mini-sub, BAtboat, and Super Powers-esque two-seat BAtmobile out right now in the $11 line.  The boys are still Imaginext fiends and I think have pretty much all the newest sets (Croc, Catwoman, Clayface).

SDCC unveiled quite a few new things for 2012 too - Joker Tank, Arkham Asylum (with Bane!), Batpod, new jetpack (http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12315&start=810)

Yeah, we saw some of those (Penguin Sub, new Batmobile) as well.  Might have to get the Batmobile, although she does already have the smaller one.  Although I know females aren't super likely in this line (although there is Catwoman), I really hope they make a Batgirl.  That is her favorite DC character, and it would be cool to add her to the mix.  Like I said, a real fun (and sturdy) line for the kiddos.  You could get quite a setup with all the figures, vehicles, and playsets.

We were looking at the big Batman/Batcave Imaginext display at TRU the other day (which is pretty nifty), and although we have seen most of that at retail somewhere - one we've never found is the Batwing.  As someone relatively new to Imaginext (our daughter just got into them in the past 6 months), is this an older vehicle or something that should be available now (or coming soon)?

Other than that, we've picked up and stashed away the Super Powers-esque Batmobile, as well as the Batboat.  I hope we see this line continue to expand, because it sure is fun.  I know our little girl is really hoping we see a Batgirl figure at some point :).

Anyone else still buying this line?  I've been picking up things here or there for my 2.5 year old for Christmas - Aquaman/Shark from F-P.com, Cyborg/ATV and Commish Gordon/Police Car from TRU.

It's taken a while, but we've managed to collect a really great range of characters in this line now - 5/7 of the JLA (Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Flash, GL) plus Hawkman, Cyborg, Robin, and Gordon.  And a great bunch of villians too - Joker, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Catwoman, Two Face, Killer Croc, Bane, Clayface.

Once he mixes in some of the Playskool Heroes figures we have (Han, Chewie, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Cap) the Bat-rogues don't stand a chance! :P

I've been grabbing a bunch of Imaginext stuff for my 2YO.  He has a few Superhero items, but he LOVES the airplanes.  These are some pretty cool toys, and the pilots from the planes remind me of M.A.S.K. figures with their accessories.

Our daughter is still into the Imaginext stuff, although we haven't bought anything new for awhile now I guess.  She is really hoping that they'll make a Batgirl (or Wonder Woman), but I'm not sure how likely that is.  We'll see.  She sort of likes all of the Imaginext lines with the various castles, dinosuars, and now we saw that they had Spongebob sets at our local TRU.  I have to say, playing with the ones we have at the house, they sure are good toys.  Fun, and pretty sturdy it seems.

I hadn't looked at these in awhile, but decided to walk down the aisle after our Target reset the other day and was surprised at how much new stuff there was.  Still no Batgirl (my daughter was disappointed), but Wonder Woman's Invisible Jet, a JL Javelin, Black Manta's sub, and new figures like Cyborg, Darkseid, Grodd, Green Arrow, etc.  Quite a bit of new stuff for one year, kind of neat.

My 17 month son asked for his first action figure by recognition today at Target. At the local FallCon I got a Wonder Woman card in my grab bag which I gave to him and he loves it. He saw the Imaginext set with Wonder Woman and Superman today and pointed and pointed and when I tried to put it back he flipped out. He owns it now.

Bought my son Gorilla Grod over the weekend... he hadn't asked for any Imaginext in a while (he's 6), but he got it and played with his super heroes and playsets all day Sunday.
