Well, since it appears I have time to play this year and the "other" league is full, I thought I'd start a second league. :)
The league will be scored with a rotisserie scoring system for ten categories:
Field Goals Made
Free Throws Made
3-PT Shots Made
Total Points
Offensive Rebounds
Defensive Rebounds
Assists
Steals
Blocked Shots
Turnovers
The rosters have 12 active players as follows:
PG
SG
PF
SF
C
Utility
Utility
five Bench Positions
In addition, there will be one injure reserve spot to accomodate injured super-stars.
Invitations are open to ALL JediDefender Members except for those I choose to disallow for obvious reasons. :-X To join, post here and I'll send you a PM with all the details on how you can join...
Jeff
ps.
The draft order will be determined by one of two methods, according to the results of a league vote:
1 - If Yahoo Live Draft is chosen, we will use a random order determined by Yahoo.
2 - If a JD Forum based draft is chosen, the draft order will be chosen by a neutral third-party staff member of JediDefender.
;)

Jeff, I'm in if:
a) I'm allowed
and
b) We can do a Yahoo live draft
I really don't see how a forum draft would work with me.
Lemme know.
John

Do you have it set up yet? Since Dressel deleted the other, I guess I need to defend my title here.
-

Yep, it is all set up and the info has been sent to you.
The info is being kept private so that we can control who enters our league.
-
I want in. ;D
Also I prefer a random/ live Yahoo draft.
-
Aw what the hell, I'm in. :)
-
Am I still excluded now that the other leauge is defunct?
Kevin
-
I'd love to play if there's a spot left.
-
I'm in if you've got room Jeff. Either draft method is fine with me.
-
i'd like to play too

Hi All,
I've been kinda under the weather (my first day at work this week) so I haven't been around much...
I think I have sent out the invites to everyone who has asked, but if I missed anyone, please let me know.
1 - Jeff
2 - JohnH
3 - Morgbug
4 - JayDouble
5 - Ryan
6 - Rob
7 - mosnab
8 - john todd
9 - Scott
Also, for the draft, it seems like most would like to use the Yahoo draft feature. Are there any dates that DO NOT work for the people here (class nights, work nights, etc)?
Thanks,
Jeff
-
Friday's and Saturday's generally aren't good for me (probably the same for most people...) but I'm down for just about any weekday that I can think of - unless something out of my normal routine happens.

::) give up partying, just for one weekend night a year, wouldya :P
Monday's are not good for me unless it's past 9 pm eastern. I also don't yet know what nights my basketball games are, so I'll be adding to that list. Weekend nights are probably better for me :-* but Sunday evening would be most suitable.
Don't sweat that detail too much Jeff. I can tell you that not everyone can be accomodated. People will just have to accept the best possible date that you come up with (some people will NOT be able to make it) and they'll have to rank their picks and go with the autodraft.
-

That's not what I heard.
Oddly enough my first post disappeared. Is that what mods do now omit people from playing in fantasy leagues without explanations?
I don't want a team, but someone else does.
-
- Hey Marin, Sorry, I can't go out with you this evening.
- Why?
- Oh, because I have to draft for my Fantasy Basketball Team all Friday night.
- You're an *******.
-
- Oh, because I have to draft for my Fantasy Basketball Team all Friday night.
It took me about an hour with 12 teams and a roster larger than that. I think 1 1/2 hours will be the max time.
-
It doesn't matter what day to me.
If I know I'm going to miss it, I'll just prerank my players.
-

Your first post was removed, because like this one it was not needed in this thread.

I have class Thursday nights until 9 MST and Fridays and Saturday nights aren't so hot for me either. I also have hockey games on Sunday and Tuesday nights, so that leaves Monday and Wednesday nights ::) Don't schedule anything based on what I need though, sice we are doing a yahoo Draft I'll just pre-rank my guys too and let the computer draft for me.

Hi Jackie, no sorry, you can't go workout tonight. I've got to do a draft. Yeah, the punkass younguns think drinking on a weekend is more important than my family.
Two sides to every coin.
:P ;)

Is it too soon to rank players? I must be going braindead, I can't find the place to do so.

Except I don't drink - so we'll have to tweak your madlib a little bit.

Oh my, I'm surrounded by tea totalers. :o :-X
Not me, sir. I've got the hiccups like Mayberry's town drunk, whatever his name was.
I'm gonna abstain from participating in this fantasy league, for the simple reason that, well, it just wouldn't be any fun, both for you guys, and myself. I have seriously kicked so much ass in every fantasy league I've ever played in before, that I've found that not only does everybody I'm playing against not have any fun because I've kicked their asses so hard, but I haven't had any fun myself, because there's been absolutely no competition. And yeah, so what if every league I've ever been in has been in my retarded cousin's nursing home? It doesn't matter.
My heart's just not in it anymore. There's no more fantasy sports ass left to kick.
It's kind of sad, really.
Maybe I'll see you next year.

Not a problem...
-
ive got class on tuesday's until about 9pm.
-
Looks like we've got 10 teams (or soon will once the 10th adds his team).
Now, on to a draft day... From what I read above, it sounds like Sundays will work out best for everyone involved (Wednesday being the second choice).
I'll check out Yahoo and see what we can get...
OK, looks like Sunday is out unless we want to draft in the morning. :-\
How about this?
Draft Day (via Yahoo LIVE DRAFT):
Date: Wednesday, October 19th
Time: 9:45pm EST (8:45pm Central, 7:45pm Mountain, 6:45pm Pacific)
That will give us about 2 weeks to get the rosters set and up and running. It also gives us time in case we encounter technical difficulties on draft day and need to move the date.
Everyone on board for the 19th?
-
That's an acceptable date to me. About the only day I can do that week.
-
Sounds good to me.
John

I'll be watching Lost, but I'll be there!

God (and my Boss) willing, Weds. is good.

I was in the last one before it turned crazy and got closed. Any chance you can squeeze one more in? :)

PM will be sent, and that should cap our league at 12.
Draft Day (via Yahoo LIVE DRAFT):
Date: Wednesday, October 19th
Time: 9:45pm EST (8:45pm Central, 7:45pm Mountain, 6:45pm Pacific)
* The draft order will be determined randomly by Yahoo approximately 30minutes before the draft.
Jeff
-
So guess what time my first basketball game of the year is this year? ::)
-
Jeff, is the league capped at 12 teams? And are we doing 12 round in the draft? My game is at exactly the same time as the draft. I have 120 guys ranked, so just wanting to know if I need to add any.
-
Jeff, is the league capped at 12 teams?
Yes, we are capped at 12 teams (ie our league is full).
And are we doing 12 round in the draft?
Yep, 12 rounds to cover the 12 roster spots:
PG
SG
PF
SF
C
Utility
Utility
five Bench Positions
My game is at exactly the same time as the draft. I have 120 guys ranked, so just wanting to know if I need to add any.
I think having 120 ranked, you should be covered... ;)
-
Actually I meant to say 10 rounds: 10x12 = 120. 12x12 = 144 :P So I needs to add me some players though for the last two rounds will it really matter?
-
Is there a bright side to spraining your ankle? If so, it means I'll be here to draft by the looks of things. ::)

That's been hurting a bit too :-X

According to the website, the draft order will be determined randomly by Yahoo approximately 30minutes before the draft.
I can definitely post it in here as soon as it is available.

This will be my first live draft - is there a special area in yahoo that we go to get to it?

good question. do i need to be prepared in any way?

Kevin
30 minutes before draft time a very obvious link will appear on the league page above the list of teams and it will say "Your league is drafting now - enter live draft". You click that. Then another window will open up. Across the top of the page you'll see 12 flags in a horizontal row, if you put your mouse arrow on each flag, it will have the random team name that drafts in that spot. The flag that is drafting will be lit up in red.
Next thing down on the page will be Yahoo's list of O-ranked players. To draft a player, put your mouse arrow on his name and left click once, then to the lower right of the list click "draft player". Be very careful here that the correct player's name is lit up.
The 1:30 goes really fast when it's your turn, so you kinda gotta move quick, because if you don't pick your player, Yahoo will just give you the highest ranked player available according to their rankings (which can be very screwed up) unless your preranked their list, regardless of what positions you need.
-
The draft page has now been activated:
Here is the order that was randomly generated by Yahoo (http://basketball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nba/33093/draftresults)
1. Airballs
2. Thug Squad Ballers
3. Dunking Wookiees
4. Canuckleheads
5. TheBestTeamEver
6. The Famine
7. Snagglicious!
8. YAO MING = MVP
9. The Zods (Rob's poor luck holds out :()
10. Montreal EZ's
11. Minnesota Muskies
12. really rottens
Drafting is front to back, back to front so for example: #12 picks #13, #11 picks #14, etc.
Head on over to Yahoo and click on the "Enter Live Draft."
-
It's a good thing I woke up from my nap. I totally forgot about this. :-X
-
Thanks for drafting everyone, your rosters should now be active...
-
Jeff, double check your catagories vs what you said:
FG%, FT%, 3's, PTS, REB, AST, STL, BLK, TO but instead it's FG made, FT made, 3's, OReb, DReb, AST, STL, BLK, TO
Mess up a bit. :-\
Kevin
EDIT: Not My bad.
-
I was just going to say the same thing...need to change that up
-
that will teach me a lesson about forgetting the draft. i can't believe how many spares i got even with my higher picks.
didn't sharif abdur-rahim retire?
-
Here is the list from Page 1:
The league will be scored with a rotisserie scoring system for ten categories:
Field Goals Made
Free Throws Made
3-PT Shots Made
Total Points
Offensive Rebounds
Defensive Rebounds
Assists
Steals
Blocked Shots
Turnovers
These are still the same as when I set up the league. Did I get something wrong? :-\
-
Hmmm....I think last year we had % instead of Totals...really FG, FT and Points are all going to be the same while % is a little more selective
-
Hmmm....I think last year we had % instead of Totals...really FG, FT and Points are all going to be the same while % is a little more selective
edit:
Now that I think about it, % would make more sense for FT for sure since not everyone goes to the line all the time...
How about leaving total point alone and making the others % instead?
-
Fine with me I guess...I vote %
-
I am 99% sure we can't change it now that we've drafted. Considering I based my picks on Made instead of % (which is the way Jeff said it would be set up), I'd say we stick with Made (which is probably a moot point anyway).
John
-
Also of note...I don't really care either way to be honest, I just thought it was the same as last year is all. It is ****** to change after the draft
-
OK, let's just leave it as is then...
-
That's the same as last year's set up with the rotisserie. I'm in favor of that. % please.
Doing FG and FT AND points is sort of absurdly redundant, isn't it? Aren't field goals points?
Did anyone really draft a guy based on the fact he goes to the line a lot? I'd be surprised at that. And if so, how many guys did you do it with?
So you end up with most points being a result of field goals (twos and threes) adding up to points. Without the % being factored in you've taken two identical categories to make a third. Points is just the sum of twos and threes. With percentage you have three unique categories. [/he]
I can understand changes before a season. I just can't imagine someone's draft strategy was so focused as to be really upset at the change. Explain to me what players you purposely avoided when it came to your turn because you didn't factor in percentage :-\
-
Just a few thoughts here, and you guys can take it or leave it because it doesn't really mean squat to me anyhow:
1. Shaquille O' Neal - If FT% is the category, he KILLS your team. He takes so many shots at a 45% clip that no amount of 80% FT shooters can help your team recover. Big difference between FT and FT% there. If the category if FT Made, he is a top 20 pick again because of his REB/PTS/BLK/FG% prowess.
2. Kyle Korver - 3's vs. 3 % Made - If the category is 3's, he is a top 50 draft pick. If the category is 3%Made, he is undraftable.
3. Kobe Bryant - If FT% is a category, ho hum. If FT Made is the category, BOOM! His value shoots through the roof. Same phenomenon with Iverson.
The categories we used last year were:
FG%
FT%
3's Made
Assists
Blocked shots
Steals
Turnovers
Total Rebounds
Total Points
I could swear this league had these listed when it was first created on page 1.
-
The Shaq argument is essentially my point - if you don't use percentage his ranking goes through the roof and unrealistically so. Yeah, great player and all but he's always sucked from the line. You shouldn't simply erase that fact. If you do, he's a top five pick easy. He didn't go in the top five.
-
I can kind of see that point too, regarding Shaq, etc. But, like was mentioned, we already drafted so maybe some people would be upset with any changes. It doesn't matter to me either way, whatever everyone thinks is best. I thought the draft went nice and smooth (and quick) last night, good job everyone. I had to step away and missed some of my picks, so I got a couple of players (Marvin Williams in particular) a little higher than I would have normally taken them. Oh well though, that's what happens. Good luck to everyone on the upcoming season.
-
FG%
FT%
3's Made
Assists
Blocked shots
Steals
Turnovers
Total Rebounds
Total Points
I could swear this league had these listed when it was first created on page 1.
Well, those categories were used in the original (now defunct league) started by Dressel. When I created my league, the other one was still in existance.
I thought I would change the settings a bit to differentiate the two leagues so they weren't just carbon copies of each other. Hence, the switch to points made (not %) and the split between O-Reb and D-Reb.
When the first league folded, leaving this league the only league, my settings (points made) were never changed to match Dressel's (%).
I can assure you that I have not monkeyed with the settings since the original post.
One of these years we will have to learn to have everyone actually read the rules before the draft so this stuff doesn't always pop up. :-X :P
-
It's my own fault, but I didn't realize there was a difference and I drafted thinking more along last year's lines.
Whatever you guys all want is fine with me, I have no idea how this would affect my team one way or the other.
-

That's fair enough. I'll just watch the categories as they are and live with it. I just find it a bit silly to have categories that really are duplicates of themselves. I also believe basketball should actually involve skill and ability, not just hurling the ball as many times as humanly possible. But I suppose that's why I watch college on tv and not the NBA.
I'll leave it alone.
-
The Shaq argument is essentially my point - if you don't use percentage his ranking goes through the roof and unrealistically so.
Whew, Ben Wallace too. With these current settings, you'd have lost to me by a lot last year Brent. It is Shaq and Wallace's FT% that lost it for me. As it stands right now they can shoot their 40% from the line, take as many shots at that percentage as the "Hack a Shaq" opposing defenses can muster, and it won't matter at all.
As it stands right now with "FG Made" and "Total Points" you basically have replica categories.
You have got to have FG% and FT%, but you guys already drafted so that's a very sticky situation.
Kobe Bryant in particular gets a huge lift from these categories. "FG Made" gives him a big boost, whereas "FG%" usually kept him in check. He takes among the most shots in the league. Also "FT%" used to keep him in check over "FT Made," because he goes to the line a TON.
Kobe is the most valuable player in this league, right there with LeBron, and now Shaq is a top 5 pick too.
-
Yep, I agree Matt. You'd have cleaned my clock last year. It probably would have dropped me down to third or lower in fact. As I said, I think percentages matter. At the same time though, we could go into the 3 category and argue that either way as well. I really benefited last year from having Q. Richardson. Had the 3 category been % based last year I probably wouldn't have done as well as I did because of him.
I was humming and hawing on Kobe because I drafted number four. Unfortunately I didn't read the stats/rules for this league otherwise I would have taken the rapist. Oh well, here's hoping Dwayne Wade isn't too worried about anything other than firing up the brick as much as humanly possible. Also hoping for Shaq/Kobe/Wallace to go down fairly quickly. But I was hoping that regardless of how the stats were set up.
And I'm predicting Stoudemire will be back just after Christmas :P
-
All right, so the official decision is to stick with it as "points made" instead of %.
If it is of any use to you, my local gang use "made" instead of "%" in our NBA league. The low-brow NBA fans in my circle of friends like scoring and lots of it. They don't care if someone's shooting percentage is 30% if he's scoring 50 points a night. :P
Anyway, there a total duplication between FG Made and Total Points as you'd initially think. Sure, they are very closely linked, but if you use the FT Made and 3PT category listings to your advantage, you can make up for a weak FG scorer or two.
It will make the league a bit different and hey - if we all hate it then we will learn to never never never try it again. :-[
-

My small lineup is already leaning this way. Go Q!

Whoever wins won't hate it no matter how the stats are collected. Hopefully that's me. :-*

Click me for good news for the bug (http://fantasysports.yahoo.com/analysis/news?slug=mb-fallout_102605&prov=yhoo&type=lgns&league=fantasy/nba)
Bogut, a rookie and the second center I selected should be moving to PF. He has center eligibility though. So his minutes should increase and there's less pressure on him now. Booyah!
-
Did everybody catch that there is no longer an Injured List for the NBA?
John
-
Did everybody catch that there is no longer an Injured List for the NBA?
John
Yep:
League Notes:
• The NBA has announced that it will no longer utilize an Injured List (IL). As a result, the IL option has been removed from the fantasy game. If you wish to replace an injured player in your starting lineup, you must either place him on your bench or drop him to waivers.
Now I'm more irritated than before. I picked up A. Stoudemire in the draft when I did because he was fairly high on the yahoo rankings. With guys not being present to draft I had to take him when I did or he would have gone to one of the absentee drafters. Now this happens. ::)
-
I'll take Stodoumire from you if you want. :D
-
I'll take Stodoumire from you if you want. :D
Um, no, but thanks for asking ;)
-
Don't forget that the season starts tomorrow!
Time to set those rosters and prepare for the thuggery to commence! ;)
-
What kind of lame ass opening night is this? I've got one player playing on opening night - full-slate tomorrow though.
-
Oh-ho-ho!
Andrew Bogut might be for real.
13 points
9 rebounds
1 assist
3 blocks
Yeah, I'll take that from a rookie :)
-
5th place so far for me, with only one player playing tonight - not too bad. I think.
-
Every player is NA; no points for yesterday?
Methinks yahoo basketball is a wee bit messed up at the moment.
-
Every player is NA; no points for yesterday?
Methinks yahoo basketball is a wee bit messed up at the moment.
It was a bit messed up this AM (new season bugs? :-\), but it seems to have fixed itself now:
1 Spuggets = 100.5pts
2 Dunking Wookiees = 86pts
3 Snagglicious! = 80pts
4 Canuckleheads = 76pts
5 Airballs = 65.5pts
6 Minnesota Muskies = 62pts
7 The Zods = 61.5pts
8 The Famine = 58pts
9 Thug Squad Ballers = 57pts
10 oh crap = 53pts
11 really rottens = 44pts
12 Montreal EZ's = 36.5pts
-
7th place eh? Not bad for a one man show I guess.
-
Yep, 7th is good for one guy for sure. I don't think I'll be making any wholesale roster changes too quickly yet :P A little annoyed that Boozer is hurt right now.
-
7th place eh? Not bad for a one man show I guess.
Your one guy did better than mine I guess since I'm only in 9th place...
The worst part is with my "skill" at Fantasy Basketball, 9th is as high as I might get all year. :'(
-
I'm just hoping to finish better than I did last year - I think I finished about 7th - or worse.
-
too many turnovers for me :-[
i need yao!
-
Looks like my team sucks even worse than last year. Of course, two of my guys sat out...
-
Heh, moment of confusion this morning: go in, look at the league and see -6, WTF? ??? Oh yeah, I remember now how it works. ::)
Doing ok, but not great. Need to figure out how this works again. Definitely going to be tough though as I don't have those three Suns to bail me out.
-
Dead ******* last for me. I'm guessing that it stays that way for awhile.
At least I'm doing well in the hockey league.
-
Wow -26 last night. TOs are fun. ::)
-
It's super temporary I'm sure, but still:
;D :P :-*
Look familiar?
-
Yay - 12th to 6th in a night. There's hope.
-
Definitely, I think I went from 1st to 8th or something ::)
-
wow im first :o i hate TO!
-
I don't even pay attention to standings this early in the season. A couple of good games can bump you from 8th to 1st, and a couple of bad games can put you in the cellar. Then you can rebound the next day. Usually I don't really notice the standings until mid-way through the season.
John
-
arghhh... still 11th. i jumped to 6th for about a second the other day, but i guess it didn't stick.
i haven't ever played in a league like this one before, so i am not entirely sure of the strategy. mostly it seems if you don't draft well, you are screwed.
-

Well, three categories are largely the same since % isn't part of it. FTM and FGM = Pts. Big difference there. ;D
We'll see how it settles out though. I've been as high as first and I'm down pretty low right now.
-
Well I've identified my biggest problem - no play from the Center position... Diogu and Dalembert have yet to play a single game, and my stop-gap of Steven Hunter just isn't getting the job done...
Anyone have an extra center they want to trade? I'm thinking about making some offers.
-
Anyone know if there's anywhere in Yahoo where we can see the draft order? I'm just curious as to where a few players were selected and usually come back to the thread and check the draft - but with the live draft that isn't an option...

Go to All League Tools and then Draft Results.

If that link doesn't work click "All League Tools" in the lower right corner, then select "Draft Results".

Perfect. Thanks guys.

I am the kiss of death.
Could I get another guy injured?
I knew Stoudemire would miss the better part of the season. I had thought that there would be an IR category and I could stash him away on my bench. Nope, no IR in the NBA this year ::) No big deal, it's just one bench spot.
Took Boozer, he was day to day at the start of the season, should miss maybe a week, no big deal. Yet to play a game.
Barbosa just went down with a knee injury. They said about three weeks, but how much momentum will he lose at the same time.
Richardson's been a DNP on several occasions this year. Hey, he was a late pick, but my bench is getting a tad thin thanks. :-\
-
damn lets hope mr. wade country doesnt go down as well ;)
-
Well how's this - my research must have not been any good, because I somehow managed to draft two injured centers. I'm stuck with free agents who haven't played particularly well until one of them gets back...
-
I am the kiss of death.
Could I get another guy injured?
The answer is yes: Josh Howard came down on another dude's foot and sprained his ankle. He's gone for the next several games. At least. ::)
-
It's super temporary I'm sure, but still:
;D :P :-*
Look familiar?
LOL, it's pretty funny but today I'll crow about NOT being dead last. Thanks Jeff. ;)
-
LOL, it's pretty funny but today I'll crow about NOT being dead last. Thanks Jeff. ;)
Yeah, um - I suck at Fantasy Basketball apparently. :-[
Shaq = injured = my team sucks. :-\
-
Shaq = injured = my team sucks. :-\
Shaq = injured = Zo plays good for me. ;D
-
Don't fret Jeff, I should be back in the toilet by tomorrow ;)
Stoudemire - injured (all along this was supposed to be my IR slot)
Boozer - injured, hasn't played yet
Barbosa - injured, was playing great
Howard - injured, was playing great
Next:...
-
i guess i should feel lucky that i missed so much of the draft. i never would have taken most of the guys i got, including gilbert arenas who seems to be a fantasy bball stud even if he can't get his team to win.
-
Is something wrong with the league? It keeps telling me that I'm not in the league this morning - even though I'm signed in and could see it last night.
My hockey and football teams still work fine?
-
Is something wrong with the league? It keeps telling me that I'm not in the league this morning - even though I'm signed in and could see it last night.
I thnk it must be down because I get that same error message... :-\
-
I think just booted all of us out of the league so he could move up in the standings :P
-
The problem must be a little more widespread than the Basketball league - either that or Yahoo decided to be on a first name basis with the NFL:
That doesn't look like a common error... I wonder if someone is trying to f up the yahoo leagues.
-
I am the kiss of death.
Rashard Lewis, nope, not injured, rather charged with drunk driving ::)
-
Wow we are in week 41 of the football season? Time sure flew by.
I wonder if someone got angry that they were losing and messed with yahoo a bit...
-
before my 15 minutes are up, i thought i would say... whoo hooo.... im number one
-
It's definitely getting very crowded up there at the top!
-
while i am thinking about it, since sharif abdur rahim got his jaw broken (by my other power forward zach randolf), i am a little weak at that position. perhaps mr spuggets would be willing to loan me tim duncan for a while.
-
It's definitely getting very crowded up there at the top!
Plenty crowded at the bottom too :-*
-
i am still not really sure how the scoring works for this game. does it hurt to leave a guy in the game if he is injured, or will your score be better if you put him on the bench?
-
Better to put him on the bench. I don't think he hurts your score, but you do lose a game at that position for having him slotted in.
-
in case anybody read this before i edited it, never mind i found the link and now understand the scoring.
-
You don't lose a game at the position unless the player enters the game at some point - even if he's left in your lineup.
-
good to know. i have already let spares suck up too many games without losing them to injured dudes who can't decide day to day whether they will play or not.
-
Right on.
Because I'm curious, who's who?
Can anyone help fill in these blanks:

Kevin. Please be honest. Is Dressel running your team?
Because only Dressel would offer someone a bull**** ass trade like this:
The Famine (Players to Trade)
Stromile Swift
The Zods (Players to Trade)
Allen Iverson
Elton Brand
Chauncey Billups
The Famine (Players to Drop)
Caron Butler
Charlie Villanueva
You're suddenly in 3rd place, are offering crap trades, and you never said anything about having bought a magazine for this league.
I'm serious, is Dressel running your show?
-
Woo-hoo 12th place! I know absolutely nothing about basketball, I guess it doesn't help that I never really watch it. I think it has been a good month or two since I've editted my lineup.
EDIT: I think SpudTroopr is oh crap.
-
I've not seen hide nor hair of him. How he would have the password for the leauge is beyond me. You offered Dalembert and Crawford for Jermaine O'neil. I've been reading up at work (Times Union sports section, as I've said), and that seems like a horse dung deal to me. So I figured I'd rock the boat back. I can't make heads or tails out of the hockey leauge though.
Kevin
-
Dressel wouldn't need the league password if you set the team up - but whatever.
As for the trade offer, sure it was going to benefit me more than you but it was no where near as ridiculous as the joke of a counter offer you made.
-

I hope you don't think I'm that stupid to take a deal like that. Hence I shot back with somthing I saw as equally rediculous.
Kevin
-
It wasn't about stupid or smart. The idea is that I aim a little low, and then you aim a little high and then we negotiate down to something amicable. If you weren't in the mood to deal, just reject the trade and move along. The counter offer you made was 100 times more absurd than the original offer I made you.
-
yea i am "oh crap" bc im dropping down!!!
Please come back soon Mr. Camby :'(
-
Okay, so which of our Canadian friends is the Montreal EZ's?
How long is Camby supposed to be out for? I've been waiting on Maggette for most of the freaking season... >:( He's played a whopping 13 games this year - he was really great when he was healthy but this is getting ridiculous.
-

He'll be out another 4 weeks or so according to the local paper. I just don't get it with him, he probably is the best put together guard but is made of glass.
-
As of December 23rd the report was about 4 more weeks. So I'm holding out hope that he'll be back sooner... :-[

the rest of your team must be performing very well for you to suck up 2 long term injured players.
-
They're doing pretty well. :)
Of course, my team is an injury or two to Iverson and/or Brand away from being very mediocre. And Maggette's prognosis gets worse every week. First it was a few days. Then it was a few weeks. Now it's "will be re-evaluated in 3 weeks to see if he can play at all this season"
They're hoping he'll be back in 6-8 weeks... :-\
-
Could be worse, you coulda drafted Boozer. It's lookin' like he might not play this year :o
-
I'd never draft a boozer. I need guys who show up for work sober.
-
Yeah, that's my problem. I was drawn as much by the name as any talent that might have been present ::)
It's just at a point where I can't drop him, because he'll start playing immediately and someone else will pick him up. I think I've managed to fill the PF position adequately, but I could always use some more rebounds.
-
Yeah, I've gotten into the habit of giving fantasy basketball homes to guys who are long term investments - I'm sure I'd try to pick up Boozer if you dropped him.
-
even though i know he probably would not play well if he did come back i would pick up boozer too if i saw him on the waivers list. he had that great season with cleveland a couple years ago. now he is just grant hill without the 1st 5 really great years of his career.

Damn Yao...get better sooner than you have been >:( >:( >:(

Good news on Abdur-Rahim:
Jan 19 According to Kings head coach Rick Adelman, Abdur-Rahim will return to the rotation for Thursday's tussle with the Los Angeles Lakers, but his minutes are expected to be extremely limited. The forward, who underwent surgery to repair his broken jaw late last month, reported no major problems after practicing with the team on Wednesday. Because his mouth has been wired shut, Abdur-Rahim reportedly has lost some weight, and he's not in game shape.
Within a few weeks I should be able to star working him into my lineup.
-
that is surprising news. i was sure he would not play again this season when i dropped him. since the kings aren't doing too good i figured he would sit until he was 100%.
-
I was suprised too - last word was that he was a few weeks away from playing with the team and once he did he'd have lost a lot of weight and need to be worked back slowly - this sounds like they'll start working him back slowly without the long layoff in the middle.
Looks like he played today...
19 minutes, 11 points, 7 free throws, 2 field goals, 2 assists, a steal, and a turnover with a little over a minute left in regulation. Not bad for his first action in awhile.
-
Do we get to vote on trades in this league?
-
Don't like the trade?
-
I had both on my team last year. Arenas was twice the fantasy pick that Ming was.
So, I actually think I love the trade.
I asked because I have a trade pending in the Hockey league and noticed that people coudl vote against it but there was no option for that here in the Basketball league. I was just wondering how unfair trades would be handled... Jeff just vetoes them?
-

The commisioner has to set that up in the settings. In another Yahoo League I'm in there's the option for participants to veto the trade.
-
Anyone wanna trade for boozer :P ::)

Sure, but you won't like the offer.

Sure, but you won't like the offer.
Is it someone NOT injured? Or maybe a couple of clones :P
-
areneas has been very good to me, but i also have jason kidd on my team and i am already projected to go over my pg games. on the other hand both my centers suck ass and are just a waste of a position.

that's why I offered the deal ;)

Finally starting to make a move, with Arenas on the squad I've got my sights on Rob :-*

With Iverson on the sideline, I've got my sights on last place... :-[

Back off mister, that's my real estate. >:(

Yahoo's fantasy basketball news alerts are worthless... Lamar Odom got hurt about 4 days ago and still no blurb about it. I had to find out after realizing he'd been sitting for two games... >:(

I'm in the same boat with Marbury. He's skittish enough without missing out information on his health. I've found the same thing with all the sports though, they aren't terribly reliable.
-
I've now played fantasy sports with the four major sports - football is the only one that is reliable. They're on top of injuries like Paris Hilton.
-
I think that's because the NFL has a major statement date for Sunday games. Guys have to have their status listed on Thursday. Easier though, because they're only playing once a week as opposed to the 82 game grind.
I'd part with Marbury if anyone's interested, btw.
-
Is anyone interested in Corey Maggette? He's an injury risk, but he's expected back in a few weeks and when he was playing he was very good.
-
So it looks like we got credit for the All Star game.
Even though I somehow gained half a point for the day, that hardly seems fair to me. Players don't play the whole thing, and not everyone that should be there is, and it's not part of the regular season, and it wasn't on the schedule so I didn't look into whether or not I'd want to sit or start Iverson (my only Allstar) - and I would have, because I'd hate to use a game up when the guy was probably only going to play a little bit. There are so many reasons why this is wrong it would take all day to list them all.
??
-
So it looks like we got credit for the All Star game.
I think this is just a fluke with the fancy-pants stat-tracker.
When I look at the league, I see no stats for the weekend and the overall standings looks the same - everyone has Pts Change = 0.
Rob, do you still see that today or is it changed?
-
Looks right now - like you said, it must have just been a stat tracker thing.
-
My entire team is on the trading block, let's make a deal
-
Want Marbury?
::)
-
Let's make a deal.

wuts the team name?

Minnesota Muskies...1 deal done already

C'mon, Marbury, for old time sake. :P
-
Minnesota Muskies...1 deal done already
If you're not going to take mine at least make me a counter-offer?!
-
It took almost 3/4 of a season, but my squad is finally coming around. I managed to crawl out of last into a "not too horrible" 8th or 9th for most of the last month. :P
I'm way under on a lot of the spots, hopefully a bit of roster re-arranging each night can get me in the top half before this thing is all over...
-
I'm looking to add a rebounder (preferrably a Center or a Power Forward) to my team. I'm willing to package any two of the following if the offer is right:
Eddie Jones
Tayshaun Prince
Jamal Crawford
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Times a ticking - only 3 days left to complete trades, anyone interested?
-
I'm interested... I've got a center to offer. :)
-
Done!
:)
(I sure hope the Commissioner approves the trade... :P )
-

If my guys could get over the injury bug I'd be alright. Stoopid yahoo with crappy updates three days down the road as well.
Boozer's back finally and doing what I'd hoped: modest points and good rebounding.
But of course Marbury's been miserably inconsistent (Randy Moss syndrome?) and now Josh Howard is hurt, same for Speedy Claxton and others have been the same.
Looking back at the draft my biggest mistake was taking Marbury. Had I known there would be no IR position (they changed it after the draft) I'd not have taken Stoudemire as well. I still think he was a good pick and will pay benefits for the last month or so, but not being able to add another guy hurt especially because Boozer sat out the first 3+ months. Wade/Bell/Howard were all good picks.
And oh yeah, percentages instead of just raw numbers would have made a difference too ;)
-
And oh yeah, percentages instead of just raw numbers would have made a difference too ;)
Yeah, well we'll just chalk that one up to the fact that this league was meant as a second JD league that was to be different from the first JD league. It was only after this league was turned into the "primary" league (after all that hoobity-floobity occured) that we ran into the problem on the scoring stuff.
I think it's safe to say, after everything that occurred at the start of this year, that this will be my last year with fantasy basketball. Someone else (like the winner of the league or something) can deal with the hassel next year... :P
-
Ah, I'm just givin' you a hard time. Bitter defending champ or crap like that, it's no big deal. And hey, I still have time.
-
DAMN U JAY! >:(
-
From first to worst. No IR definitely hurt me badly. Also need to rework the stats for next year. I'm still of the opinion that points = FGM+FTM+3PTM. Everyone played under the same stats, so it's really just a point for next year. I think having a decent shooting percentage is a valid measure of the quality of a player. Sure, Kobe's 81 points are cool to watch, but taking 50+ shots is something lots of guys could do, but don't.
Diary of a draft gone horribly wrong:
1. Dwayne Wade - good pick where I got him, but should have put aside personal issues and taken Kobe again this year. Must learn to pay attention to league settings before draft occurs. Kobe with %'s = not so good, Kobe without %'s = surreal.
2. Rashard Lewis - decent pick and a good small forward selection at that point in the draft. That's about as far as I made it without screwing up. We'll just ignore the drunk driving charge during the season that cost me a couple of games ::)
3. Stephon Marbury - let it be noted I left Chauncey Billups standing at this point, even though I had Billups the previous year. I applied "Kobe" theory to Marbury - even though he and the Knicks would suck, I thought he'd hog the ball enough to get his numbers. Wrong.
4. Carlos Boozer - an awesome finish, no doubt and what I was expecting. He was listed as day to day when we drafted. He returned in February :'( He missed 50 games, not something you want to happen out of your top five picks.
5. Amare Stoudemire - damn the electronic draft and my foolish optimism. Stoudemire was coming up in the rankings and one of the guys who wasn't online would have ended up with him. I should have left him alone, but opted to take him and hope he'd come back early, or at worst come back around the all star game and play out for two months. I got one game instead. :'(
6. Andrew Bogut - not a bad choice really, but had I not taken Stoudemire above, I'd not have selected Bogut either. I expected more out of this rookie but gave up too easily as well, so my bad. I probably would have selected Paul at this point instead :-X
7. Josh Howard - one of my best picks of the draft, especially where I got this utility guy. Too bad we didn't have any D stats as well, or he'd have been even more helpful. Too many injuries means I had to drop him (I believe when I dropped him I didn't have enough healthy guys to put up a full roster).
8. Raja Bell - great pick in the eighth round. Note to self: take people playing with Steve Nash, not people that used to play with Steve Nash.
9. Quentin Richardson - see note above. Still, three point numbers were ok, but stay away from anyone playing with Marbury.
The rest of the draft was trash anyway, so no big deal there. I did pick up some guys that came on later, but too little, too late by a long, long shot. Wilcox, David West and Kenny Thomas were very nice pickups later. Should have just kept Delonte West the first time I picked him up as well.
Congrats to the guys who had good seasons and hopefully I can return to at least the top half of the league next year.
-
Brent, don't mean to burst your bubble on Kobe. But if the league was set up with Yahoo default settings, Kobe would be the number 2 player behind only Marion. His FG% isn't that bad at 44.9% but he also gives you 84.9% from the FT%. The only downside really is his TOs at 249.
-
My big killer in the draft was not drafting a center early. I kept going after guys and literally about 3 times they got picked the pick before I wanted to take them - I kept not taking the next one that I liked, thinking - I could get him next round.
So I eventually ended up with 2 centers that started the season injured. I initially thought it was no big deal and that since they'd be back soon I'd just make the rebounds up - but I never did, especially defensive rebounds. I think that my lack of quality center play was the reason I could finish up in first place without a doubt. I tried by using most of my Utility games with Magliore and Pachullia and Dalembert all getting lots of time - but it was too little too late. Next year I'm taking a center somewhere in the first 4 rounds.
Billups was great, but ended up being very hit or miss towards the end of the season... 35 points one night, 8 the next. 15 assists one night, 4 the next....
-

Don't mess with my preconceived notions >:( I'll believe what I want to believe, whether I'm right or not. ;) I took Kobe last year with the third pick, about where I picked this year, and didn't pick him this year to my detriment. I was trying to call myself an idiot in a kinder, gentler way. Thanks for ruining that :P
-

My bad. ;) Keep drinking that Kool-Aid then. :P
-
And so I shall. Just about lunch time, nothing like a martini or eight.
:)
-
So, last year, I finished in the bottom 25% (I think I was 9/10 or maybe even last, I managed to block it out).
This year, I'm sitting at #9 (of 12), which keeps me out of the bottom 25%.
I guess I'll consider this year a "success" because I wasn't quite as crappy as last year! :)
-
I'm currently a half a point from a tie for first... if lamar odom can get a steal with 9:07 to play, I'd get back half a point in steals that I lost earlier.
Likewise, if Kobe can come up with a steal with 9:07 left to play, Airballs would lose half a point to Air Spud.
It's not terribly likely especially since I think both of those guys might be sitting at this point, but I never thought I'd be this close with a few minutes left in the season... :-\
-
Also keep in mind that Dres er Famine's team is maxed out on games and while the stats are showing up tonight, they won't tomorrow. You may actually be ahead right now ;)
-
Famine's team is maxed out on games
****. :o
Kevin
-

Oooh, I was thinking that Stat Tracker was smart enough to figure all that out before adding it to the totals... It also might mean that I'm farther behind than I was thinking since maybe Airballs didn't lose as many points as it appeared...
We'll see I guess.
-
I made the proverbial one trade too many this year. I should have kept Ilgauskas and Nash for Ben Wallace who tanked after I got him, largely because the Pistons pretty much wrapped everything up pretty early
I agree with Brent though, FG and FT% instead of FGM and FTM for next year
-
I didn't play last year but what was wrong with default settings?
-
I didn't play last year but what was wrong with default settings?
You can blame that on me. The default settings (like % instead of pts) were being used in the "other" JD league (which was full when I created my league), so I changed things up so my league would be different from the other one.
Then, the other league folded and well, we had the settings we have here because nobody asked me to change them until after the draft.
Well, those [default] categories were used in the original (now defunct league) started by Dressel.
-
Looks like the final standings are in:
1 The Zods
2 Airballs
3 Air Spud
4 Dunking Wookiees
5 The Famine
6 Minnesota Muskies
7 Montreal EZ's
8 really rottens
9 Thug Squad Ballers
10 Snagglicious!
11 Canuckleheads
12 Spuggets
Thanks to everyone for playing this year and congrats to The Zods! :)
-
Congrats Famine, you beat Scott! Thatta boy!!
:)

And I beat you...er...uh...Kevin.

And I beat you...er...uh...Kevin.
Of course you did.

So that's it huh? No parade for the winner this year...
-
So that's it huh? No parade for the winner this year...
It's rough dude, Scott and I were the only ones who so much as offered Brent a "congrats" last year when he won the basketball league.
I'm not even in this league, but of the usual suspects who participate in fantasy sports here every year, you've definitely shown yourself to have strategizing skills I'm forced to respect.
Good job.
-
I love you Rob.
Kevin
-
So that's it huh? No parade for the winner this year...
I'm just a little bitter, so no well wishes from me ;)
Just kidding, your performance looked great from the cellar I was residing in, well done and congratulations.
-
Congrats Rob! :)
I think I edited my rosters once all year... whoops. I always forgot about this league, and it didn't help that I don't really follow basketball anyways.
-
Thanks everyone - last year's BBall league was the first time I'd used rotisserie scoring and I had literally no idea what I was doing on draft day - this time I was a little more prepared and got some good breaks along the way, particularly on the last day.
