That is a great price, and piece, congrats!

I wonder if the goggles weren't a running change  :-\  To me black would have made more sense. These guys weren't in wood shop, they were dealing with bright laser flares.   ;)

The Bantha is a Hasbro item, that came out in about 1998 I believe. They did at least one re-release that I can think of- but it was probably 10 years ago at this point.

I just got some kubricks from Jerry, and they were super well packed and in great shape!

I opened the C-3po, and am very glad to have him in the line-up with his shiny finish!

Thanks again Jerry!

I understand their position with the disclaimers, but if you aren't paying them to stand behind their assessment, what are you paying them for? I agree that having a 3rd party evaluate a product to help determine condition has a place in any market where the parties don't interact personally and the purchase can't be inspected by the buyer prior to purchase. Their cost should include them taking some of the risk of errors. But AFA has now shown that their model does not provide any certainty anyhow.
Now to send them some absolutely mint kubrick logray figures for grading before they shut the doors.  >:D  (inside joke for kubie junkies)

BRUTAL year.

Slave 1 and droid factory set were the only things I purchased this year, and only when the price was so low on the slave 1 I had to add the droid factory figures to get free shipping.

I get to open them on Christmas, but I assume the only things I bought will also be my favorites.

Crazy bad year.

Thanks guys, it's been a fun way to keep engaged with the SW kubes despite the lack of product. Here are a few other shots-

Props to Yak-face Jayson for the cool vinyl kubrick banner at the bottom of the cabinet! And Justin for feeding my addiction with Hammerhead to make the cantina more complete...

The background picture for the sandcrawler is Moab Utah, in Arches national park. We had some sand we had saved in a bottle from there, and I used some spray adhesive and put some on the display area to make it blend with the picture. It seems to be a good fit for the R2 capture canyon area.

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?
« on: November 17, 2013, 11:37 AM »
Most of these movies are targeted at adolescent and adult males- so even though the movie may do blockbuster numbers, that doesn't translate to toy sales. Most of them are based on comic characters, and we all know the average age of a comic book reader is probably pushing 40+.

Movies aimed at kids could sell toys, but they turn off the adult fan base, period (helly-o, jar jar binks). It will definatley be interesting to see what Disney does with this dilemma.

Companies looking to capture profit from kids habits/play patterns are far better off sticking to electronic media with some spin-offs. The rise of wages for factory workers, as well as increased costs for materials and shipping, make the old model of aisles of plastic toys a dinosaur, with far less cream for the skimming. Lego is the exception, but that is due to their niche. They don't depend on someone elses story to sell their products. Whatever they do sell from licensed merch is just gravy on top of gravy.

My kids will reminisce about mario-kart, webkinz, and all kinds of apps they played while they were young. My youngest daughter liked teen titans, avatar, and the clone wars. But she never cared for toys from them. A video game or app? That is what she wants to extend her enjoyment of the original media.

Thanks for the news Jay. I love that death star scene for kubricks. Do you know what stores will carry these, or pricepoint?

I need to get some pics posted- I've been having some fun making kubrick dioramas. Is photobucket pretty easy to use?

That all looks fantastic! And kudos to you for doing the dirty work with the inventory spreadsheets. Despite the sheer number of figures, you have made it look "clean" in the room. Congrats on the collection, and the displays.

My 12 inch figures are also in the attic. I have a feeling that 30 years from now, most everyone's hasbro 12 inch figures will still be in pristine condition. We've all run out of room!

Wow.  At $200 to $250 I was going to consider buying this one (not collecting the jumbo line) - at $399 forget it.

ditto.  >:(

That's crazy.  Any word on purchasing the Hoth Luke Independently?

I could sell you one for $150...  >:D

Good for you Rob, but what a pain. The default cookie cutter "outcome" seems to be the buyer is always right, unless the seller will spend enough time on it to prove it, no matter how ludicrous and clear the events were.

Even then, I think you were fortunate to end up with someone in CS that listened.

Well done on your part, because even a tiny jab back at the buyer at any point, or a hot head on the phone, and it could have gone the other way.
