Title: Fodder Alert!
Post by: Scott on September 16, 2003, 04:08 PM
I just returned from a jaunt into Big Lots where I was able to scoop up 27 unique 3-3/4" Figures for $28.  I just couldn't stop loading my cart with these little guys.  When I open them I will post some pictures, but they look like great Cantina, Jabba and Nightclub fodder as well as Coruscant Street Scene Fillers :-*

sounds like a sweet deal, what kind of figures are these? are they those generic cops, firemen, army guys or something else? can't wait to see pics, more good fodder is a must have!

Yeah Cops, Spacemen, Bad Guys, Firemen etc...

Some of these are just as well articulated as some SW figures at the wrists, a lot of them have working holsters as well

Not a bad score there Scott!  What brand are those figures?  They almost look like the newer GI Joe figures in a way.

I don't exactly remember but it is something like Midwestern Toy Company...

some neat figs there, some could be quite useful for parts, others i'm not so sure about, but for a buck a piece they look fun to play with.

Weird figures Scott, thanks for the photos.  I'll have to look around at the local Big Lots stores for those...  Some of them appear to have sheathed throwing knives.  If those are 3.75" tall figures then those little sheathed knives must be pretty tiny.

Some of them are beyond odd...  That company appears to hit all bases anyway. :)  I'm not sure many of the figure's parts are useful really, but some seemed to be and some of the gear seemed more useful.

The creativity of the sculptors is funny though, just to look at...

What's sad is that these do appear, though not based on anything like Star Wars is, to have superior qualities to Hasbro Star Wars figures on some levels, and they're equal to SW figures in other areas.  I'm sure  they have their flaws though too.  It's just sort of a shame that Hasbro's figures don't totally trounce these in quality overall.  I mean, there shouldn't be any comparison when you think about price and such.

Yeah I thought so too, it is not like their arms are falling off or they were constanly falling over...funny there were no spring mechanisms or anything like that in them either.

I want to find a nice ballcap type head for a Garouf Lafoe

I also think the alien type guys would just be good background filler

2 ideas:

1.  Cut the sideflaps off of the SAGA endor trooper helmet.

2.  Snap the hat off of the EI Naboo Guard and paint it green.

i just got my set of clear bust ups from the san diego comic con (thanks matt  ;D ) and while putting them together, noticed something. they are very tiny. i knew they were going to be small, from all the reports and stuff that i read online, but these things are really small. almost as if they took 3 3/4" figures and turned them into busts. so it got me thinking - do you think they will be any use as custom fodder? they have no articulation, and only half a body, but the sculpts are really nice and the likeness on luke, han, and leia is really good, probably better than anything hasbro has done so far (with the exception of the votc han. maybe). it's hard to see the details since they are clear, but i'll try and snap some pics to compare the size later on.
Title: Re: new custom fodder - bust ups?
Post by: chuckles on September 3, 2004, 02:23 PM
Did you have any issues with Leia's forearms? Might don't really fit in her upper arms too snuggly and just kind of hang there, on the verge of slipping out if you were to bump or pick up the bust. Just wondering if they're all like that or if mine is just one of those sets where the pieces don't fit together quite as well as planned.

And to keep this on topic, I think the head sculps could work well for customs, if the head size is to scale with the regular figs. Some of the parts might be iffy, but could also work if lack of articulation isn't an issue.
Title: Re: new custom fodder - bust ups?
Post by: jokabofe on September 3, 2004, 06:34 PM
no, leia's forearms seem to be okay on mine. they don't go 100% into the upper arm parts, but they don't seem to be really loose either. i pushed them in as far as i could get them.
Title: Re: new custom fodder - bust ups?
Post by: Jesse James on September 3, 2004, 08:15 PM
I'm not familiar with them Dave, but if they are in-scale then I think if cast they could be useful fodder, sure.  At least useful head replacements, but whether they're in-scale or not is the question.  Can you get a comparison image up perhaps?

Like Han with VOTC Han side-by-side?

The bust-ups that I've found work well and have customizing potential are:

C3PO
Yoda
Chewie
Sidious
Stormtrooper
Dooku

I haven't found a Royal Guard yet though.

3PO is way too small for 3-3/4" scale IMO, the rest though I agree on

You really think he's too small?  I have one in my Lars garage diorama, and the scale seems dead on.

I've done 1 custom with a bust-up so far, and that was my Gand Jedi.  The Zuckuss head/hands fit perfectly on the ROTS Kit Fisto body.  I think the Bossk works well also, but I haven't tried it.
I was really excited about making a bunch of custom Mandalorians with the Bust-Ups Boba/Jango Fetts, but they seem to be underscaled (especially when put next to the Series 2 Stormtrooper) :-[
The Han Solo and Luke heads are a little too big, in my opinion.
The Stormtrooper works well (the helmet of the bust-up is slightly larger than the VOTC helmet, so it works well if you're going to hollow out and put a head inside).
I can't wait for the ROTS Clones bust-ups!

I agree Gregorbian - the Bust-Ups can make some excellent custom fodder.

So far, I've experimented with the Sidious one some, along with the 4LOM head and Chewie head/arms.

I think that both Fetts have a lot of customizing potential too... and the Stormtrooper heads I am planning on using for some Darktrooper customs.

No, that's not good at all... I wonder what will happen to them?  Seems like a lot of e-tailers have gone under the past couple years (like aislesniper) so I hope they don't have to do that.  Their prices aren't always the best, but I'd have to say they are the most reliable place I've ever bought from.

The XD line of military figures currently features two movie-related figures in its assortments. They are from the recent wannabe Indiana Jones movie "Sahara", and feature the lead characters in middle eastern robes. Both look like they would make for good Senator bodies or background characters.

The only good pic I found was on an ebay auction...

I was tapped for cash tonight, or I would have bought the four I saw. With a hand- and head-swap they'd be pretty cool...

I picked some up the other night, the lack of accessories sucks though. I had plans of using the bodies for peseant types and using the head of Al as a Jack O'Neill (i'm going to heavily modify it though.

I'm desperately searching for many of these to do some "modern" army building with.  My BBI military figures have had a noticeable lack of targets to shoot at!  >:(

The figures look cool Ryan, glad you could find them!  Pittsburgh his still an XD Drought zone so no Sahara figures to be found...  No Battle of the Bulge, no Japanese...  Just Marines.  :)

Well we're not bone dry on XD, and sometimes the Battle of the Bulge wave appears, but Wal-Mart is **** for distribution of anything, so the Sahara and BotB figures aren't too common here...  The Japanese, Pilots, and Patton figures also are non-existant.  The only thing I ever see on this side of town are the Marines, which are cool figures mind you, but I need some damn diversity! :)

These may show, you never know, so keep your eyes open at Wal-Mart stores out your way. :)

Unfortunately can't link to the images and unless you're a collector there's no "public" images to be shared, but 21st strikes again and is packing 2 heads in with its figures more frequently.

Re-used heads unfortunately but they make great sculpts that take well to headgear.  Keep your peepers peeled!

Title: Re: Fodder Alert - 11/15
Post by: Jesse James on December 16, 2005, 07:57 AM
Sahara's are not shipping heavily it seems.  one of each is all I'm hearing that people are finding ever...

BTW I popped a head with the arab wraps on it just for fun last night amidst some popping I was doing...  The wrap is a separate piece so this intrigued me to see what the head was underneath.

So I pop the head...  and the head underneath is comical.  It looks, not to sound crass, but like a white burn victim with a fade...  The head's smooth all around, and his ears have feint hints that ears were there but looks like something happened to them.  I just can't think of a good way to describe this honestly...  And on top of that there's this hair...  just on the top of his head.  It's comical.  Kinda like a fade/flattop haircut or Bert from Bert & Ernie.

Anyway, enough of that...  the arabic head wrap is GREAT.  It's a hat really once you get it off the figure.  It fits most every generic head I have in my fodder drawers, and man I was just thinking how cool I could make some Earth military customs but this'll also be a great Star Wars bit for civilians.  I mean why not have these kind of turban/robes on for civilians, ya know?  Padme sorta had one on when they were in disguise as refugees...

But yeah the wrap is cool for Star Wars but from an earth military it's great too...  There's big need for modern "enemy" figures, or civilians and whatnot for those 1:18 US military figures I have from Iraq/Afghanistan.  So far only 2 Eastern Warrior figures exist so these Turban wraps are cool bits.

The other thing is that they'd look great on British SAS from N. Africa too and US Special Forces (modern) customs.

I love how flexible they are though and after boiling they peeled right off the head easily and pop on/off various heads quite nicely.  Very cool, I must say.

Man those sculpts are awsome, I love how they gave Hem Dazon yellow eyes like in the movies (looks like hasbro is getting things right), and just so you all know thats not normal for the specie it means there on SPICE lol.

Anyway the Luke head doesn't look alot like Mark, but it looks like a good generic head coming our way.

Momaw looks awsome the head sculpt is about a million times better than the potf2 one.

They look to me like they are a separate piece of plastic - if they aren't intended to come off, they still might come off easily after putting them in hot water for a minute - like Aurra Sing's ponytail or any other "appendage" for that matter.

Is that the SAGA/OTC Jabba's Palace Cape?

Just a heads up,

The 21st Century figure line has a license to the movie Platoon to make figures of the actors/characters in that film along with some vehicles.  The good news?  Yes, you will have a Tom Berenger (all scarred up) Sgt. Barnes head for fodder...  You will have a Charlie Sheen head, you will have a Johnny Depp head, and a Willam Defoe head even.  Lots of great fodder...

The bad news?  Finding 21st figures is a pain in the backside for many.  I still have yet to see a lot of them, especially the Japanese.  Wal-Mart's just attrocious at distributing 21st's stuff, however they may be seeing other retailer outlets as well as etailers (which they've always been at).

Enjoy...

Title: Re: Fodder Alert - 11/15
Post by: Jesse James on December 31, 2005, 02:20 AM
It's bordering on very political as, many people actually agree with his line of thought in this country and outside it, so I'm not trying to be a prick guys but it is politically charged to not like him for his political beliefs and comment on such...  Commenting on his acting, hey whatever.  The basic point is, calling him a tool because of how he feels about the US is like calling anyone who thinks like him a tool.  There's some people I'm sure do around here, so I'm asking just to lay off the political stuff, it's something we cut from the forums a long time ago because of the problems it inevitably caused...  It's a much more harmonious forum without it when everyone gets along without entering their political beliefs...  All is right with the world, yada yada yada...  :)
Title: Re: Fodder Alert - 11/15
Post by: Darth Delicious on December 31, 2005, 09:13 PM
Not to beat a dead horse here, JJ, but let me clarify why my position has little to do with politics.

I'm sure anyone on these boards who feels the same way as Depp on American foreign policy would have the cajones to defend their opinion...not backtrack and try to claim they were misquoted or had their words taken out of context like he does the moment he's quoted verbatim in the American press.

I don't have an issue with someone feeling the way Depp does...I have a problem with weasels who pander to crowds on foreign soil, but lack the conviction to defend those words when their leanings get out and they start to fear losing American box office dollars.

It's not a political issue, it's a character issue.

Post by: Jesse James on January 1, 2006, 05:17 PM
DD,

I just feel it's political in its tone, as his comments with which you are judging his character (for whatever reason) are politically based...  He said something political, backed out on it or whatnot, yada yada yada, but I see where you're coming from too.  I'm just asking to basically drop it as it could raise someone's feelings (and not just about how much they like Johnny Depp personally  ;D ).

That's all though...  Politics online get messy, so I'm just asking for some caution is all, as calling him out for backtracking on statements he made (and political ones no doubt) is calling his character out but it's central to a political issue.  So once again I just stress that anything politics isn't cool here, even that, but it's not a huge deal and doesn't need to be I believe.  I'm simply saying please don't.

I picked these up over the holidays too - I agree with the original post, I thought they would make good senators or background characters.  Their arm joints are a little funny and they may be a bit short.
Title: Re: Fodder Alert - 11/15

Those Sahara figures also could make for good Tatooine peasants.

 :P
Title: Re: Fodder Alert - 11/15
Post by: Jesse James on January 1, 2006, 06:06 PM
That or any good background character really.  I noticed that the Tatooine garb isn't restricted to Tatooine, so I think they're great fodder for almost any planet's "common man".

The turbans maybe won't always fit in, though with a smuggler's outfit the headwraps could look really cool just as some different fashionable headwear "just because".  Maybe that's the norm on his planet, ya know?

Lots of possibilities with these figures though...  Their arm articulation though is a disappointment.  They don't swivel at the bicep as most XD figures have, thus they're not nearly as poseable as one would like them to be.  They are able to be worked with though, that's for certain.
Title: Re: Fodder Alert - 11/15
Post by: CHEWIE on January 1, 2006, 06:37 PM
I agree, those robes will work well for tons of differnet planets.  Not just Tatooine.

I already started working on one of the turbans in modifying it a lot for a custom.  Hope to get it done soon.  It requires some sculpting though, and I detest doing that.

I realize I'm coming very late to this topic, but it's always great hearing abt new fodder finds, and these Sahara figures look like just the thing: generic Human faces, plus a body that could come in handy for just about anything in the SW universe.  In my opinion, that already is a big advantage over the XD military figures fomr a customizing standpoint, for while those have superb Human heads, the bodies are so obviously Earth military that it doesn't look like it would be easy to make them into anything very SW-ish.  I'd sort of been avoiding those for that reason, despite their great heads.  But I certainly own't avoid these Sahara guys if I see them!  Guess I just have to remember to look in the Hot Wheels section next time I'm at a WalMart...

... the Findswoman
Title: Re: Fodder Alert!
Post by: Jesse James on January 2, 2006, 06:08 PM
Where they are varies by store findswoman...  Sometimes its hotwheels, sometimes it's right alongside Star Wars, sometimes an endcap...  I hear all kinds of different spots.  The vehicles are rarely with the figures too which makes little sense at all.

I've also heard some stores clearancing them before they'd even been put onto the floor just because a shelf tag wasn't alotted to them on the plan-o-gram.  Now that'd be a great find if I ever stumbled upon tons of the XD figs for cheap.  And with 2 more confirmed lines on the way, this series is pretty hot as a collectible right now.

Some of these Dino warriors have Great pieces of removable Armor and the Dinosaur Esque Creatures they are Packed w/ would make Great star Wars Beast for Dioramas and Photo Novels.
Although this line is a smaller Scale than the Star Wars line the Villians of this line have Oversized Torsos and arms that work well w/ the 4" Scale.  I purchased One Today That Had a Removable Shoulder Pouldron, Forarm and Leg Armor, all Compatable w/ the 4" Scale.

These are pretty cool, I've been looking at them since whenever they came out.  I'm pretty sure they sold horribly so I wouldn't expect to see any of these after they clearance out.
I was going to pick up a few sets to make some more beast-riders (like my clone mountie) or for the extra beasts, but I never got around to it.  Maybe now that they're on clearance I'll snag a few.
Do you remember how much they were on clearance for?

It's hilarious how so many of us think about the same things here.  I've been eyeing those things for a few months now, waiting for them to go on clearance.  There are some ones with bigger creatures too, that originally retailed at $14.99.  Finally today I go by Target and check to see if they have any, and they are all sold out.

Title: Re: Fodder Alert!
Post by: Gregorbian on January 3, 2006, 07:47 PM
From what I recall, the heads and torsos would be fine 1:18th scale customs, the legs are very underscaled and the arms have limited articulation, so they might not be that useful.

Better than that, you have a perfect base for the Phase 1 Darktrooper from Dark Forces.  Add a shield/blade to one arm, and really that's it in a nutshell.  The Empire's turn to a droid military that could outperform any from the galaxy far far away.

Count me in on this fodder.  I love the resistance fighter though he seems out of place in a way.  Wish they'd done a couple more of them.  Too bad they can't (I've heard) do a regular Arnie too...  Just the butchered one.  Supposedly likeness issues and crap. :(

I'm guessing these will be in 2-packs like the Army of Darkness ones?  At aBout $15.00 retail?

The best to me is the resistance fighter - what a great sculpt for custom Star Wars troops.

Thanks for the heads up Fritz!

Unfortunately these will never see the light of day. Palisades didn't get enough pre-orders to justify making these, and went out of business just after the first of the year.

From what I heard a certain number of packages samples exist, but no actual production run. At the end Palisades was hurting so bad and had made so many product overruns that they ended up blowing out for nothing, that they never started production until they had enough pre-orders to justify it.

Trust me, you can rifle through the dumpster outside of Palisades and find all the unsold Palz, Crittaz and Freakables you could want. They made a lot of BAD product decisions.

It's disappointing, because I was looking forward to these for custom fodder, and was also looking forward to their Aqua Teen Hunger Force line.

If packaged versions exist, they'll probably show up on toyrocket or bluedottoyz or one of those toy companies that does buy-outs.

AS ashamed of myself as I am about it. I was actually looking forward to the Sesame Street figs. ITs one of those things that I always wanted as a kid. I would have bought them on principal alone. Kind of like the Mach 5 and Speed Racer figs from several years ago.

Ahh.. to dream of what could have been. :'(

I would have bought the Seasme Street figures too. Nostalgia.

The company that bought Palisades and now owns the molds makes prop replicas and has stated that they are not looking to get into the action figure market; however, although they have the molds, my understanding is that the licenses do not transfer, so I don't think we're going to get these anytime soon.

Big Lots has GI JOE figs really cheap. I found the last assortment of Venom vs Valor figs in 2 packs at Big Lots today. Since the VvsV are sold 2 figs per pacakge they were really 4 packs and they were only $5.99. 4 figs for six bucks is a great deal in my book. I never pass up a chance for some cheap fodder.

that's a good eye In-Rem, it does look the same and not surprising given Hasbro likes to cheap it up as much as possible on those packs.  I was sorta surprised it seemed new, so maybe it's just more brand re-use of molds across the company.

I have been wanting to pick it up for a while, but I haven't seen it in stores yet.
The dimensions are:
9.75" x 9.5" x 3.75"

I think that it might be a bit smaller than 1:18th scale, but it would be decently close.  For $10 - $15, it would definitely be cheaper than  a hasbro version.
What do you guys think?
Title: Re: Fodder Alert!
Post by: Jesse James on February 16, 2006, 10:29 PM
It's way underscaled.  Dimensions posted for it online before it shipped were either wrong totally or were for the packaging as opposed to the model itself, but the model is I think either 1/32 scale or so from what I've heard of those who bought and built it.

I had a story on the front page when it first surfaced because I did measurements on the given dimensions online for the model and compared them with the actual dimensions of the vehicle (if it existed of course) and it matched to almost exactly 1/18 scale or, more or less, Star Wars 3.75" figure scale...  SW figures "scale" varies because nobody's keeping track at Hasbro.  ;D

But yeah, the Corp. Alliance tank is way undersized, believe me I was hoping beyond hope it was what I thought at first.  Unfortunately it's nowhere close.  It's actually closer to the SW Miniatures Battles game if I'm not mistaken, but maybe a bit large for that.

It's way underscaled.

But there's no reason it couldn't be a "dwarf" Tank Droid....

We have already seen Dwarf Spider Droids ;)
Title: Re: Fodder Alert!
Post by: Jesse James on February 21, 2006, 04:13 AM
The difference there is they have an entirely new build/construction...  The Crab Droids supposedly come in a variety of sizes from Small, Medium, and Large and have no physical differences...  The Crab Droid is pretty simplistic in design though compared to like the Dwarf Spider Droid compared to its big (BIG) brother.  The simpler design lends itself to believability then that you can get Crab Droids in all 3 sizes then...

The thing that would get me about the Corp. Alliance tank Droid model being used then is that because of it's design I'm not sure it'd look right just "smaller".  It could be modified to look more believable though with some thought and a little work...  Different guns, maybe a reworking of the stabilizer treads on the sides...

or perhaps it could be some kind of personal Droid Commander charriot?  They were riding them into battle on Kashyyyk, so maybe....

I picked a new Joe figure at Toys R Us last night.  I'm not a Joe guy so I don't remember his name but it looks like a new figure line.  I'm pretty sure it had a red/white/blue strip on the cardback.  Sort of looked like a throwback to vintage type packaging.

I tried to find a picture to post but no success (I didn't try that hard  ;) )

Anyway, it was a decent headsculpt and the right scale.  I thought Hasbro had abandoned the 3.75" scale for Joe figures?!?!

I've heard some rumor that the line has done well enough through Hasbro directly that TRU has asked to carry it.  There's figures I'd buy if I saw them but not pay shipping I know.  I've seen 3-packs and singles I've wanted to pick up just because they're such great throwbacks. :)

I was on morning toy run and my wal-mart had some new 21st Centrury XD action figures.  Some nice neutral head sculpts with some good accessories.  I picked up two figures - one with interchangeable heads and another with a cool removable trenchcoat.  Both figures look like they've got some nice potential.  They also had an Asian soldier which looked pretty cool.  I haven't seen many Asian head sculpts on the 3-3/4 scale.

Title: Re: Fodder Alert!
Post by: Jesse James on March 23, 2006, 03:58 AM
Just so you guys know, there's an assload of 21st's figures out there...  I'll break down some of it off the top of my head...

-1st series WW2 Europe Infantry (non-removable helmets, though the heads can be used for customs if you're creative.  Helmets come off but leave a gap/holes in the heads and they're misshapen.  Some just need a little hair sculpting).

-2nd Series Vietnam...  On the Nam figures, the Cong and NVA troops don't have removable headgear.  The U.S. troops do have removable headgear.  The Nam series isn't as easy to come by though, and some figures are flat out a pain to find.  A Navy SEAL has a bandana, there's a number of others.

-3rd Series U.S. and German Paratroops...  There's probably the most and best headsculpts in this series.  A number of grimacing faces, but there's some fantastic neutral headsculpts for both sides.  There's like 6 or 7 figures of both nationalities.

-4th Series Battle of the Bulge/Ardennes...  Fewer headsculpts, but all are neutral.

-Sub-Series Pilots...  They packaged pilots from the planes individually.  The leather flight caps aren't removable though.

-Sub-Series Patton...  General George Patton in 3 flavors with his pit bull terrier.  Same head on all 3 figures.

-5th Series US Marines (Pacific Theater, repainted 3 times but no new heads)....  Lots of headsculpts.  Some more neutral than others.  Some very neutral, some really exagerated.  Lots of variety.

-6th Series Japanese Infantry...  Again a mix of neutral, semi-neutral, and flat out exagerrated headsculpts.  All Asian of course, which is positive for variety.

-7th Series Battle of the Bulge (Series 2)...  They just started shipping.  These are probably what you got BrentS as they're including interchangeable heads, torsoes...  They're probably the best ever.  I haven't picked them up yet and I so desperately want these figures in droves. :(  They have a U.S. Rifleman in trenchcoat, awesome.

Anyway, that's 21st's line-up...  That also doesn't include NEW pilots like the Jet Fighter pilot, and some of the others.  There's German and US drivers for different vehicles too...  And that doesn't even get into what BBI puts out.  From BBI SWAT (older though) onto BBI's foray into World War 2 figures.  There's a lot of headsculpts available between these two companies.

Oh and I forgot Sahara figures too which I see more...  Good civilian bodies/robes there.

There's more coming too...  They're far from done. :)

I picked up a couple of the battle of the bulge figs a couple of weeks ago. The german in the great coat is one of the best of the bunch. Im using his coat for a special project Im working on he should be finished by the weekend. There are lots of variety in these, but for some reason they go so fast around here Im lucky i snagged them when I did.
Title: Re: Fodder Alert!
Post by: Jesse James on March 24, 2006, 04:38 AM
There's pretty strong collecting market for those figures...  Plus those companies actually listen to, talk to, and deal with their consumer base and EMBRACE etailers...  Tack that onto them having limited brick & mortar retail support (Target doesn't carry them, TRU carries BBI but dumped 21st because of pressure from special interest groups and WM carries 21st but not BBI, and you have limited outlets to pick stuff up really).

Around me, they're backing up with certain things...  Battle of the Bulge never showed here heavily so I had a tough time tracking much down and never got all I wanted.  They repainted the Germans too and I only got one of them. :(  Never got the grey tankers or the Autumn Tankers.  I'm bummed.

Now my area's backing up with a wave I forgot plus the Japanese Infantry...  They repainted the Paratroopers and re-arranged the headsculpts to make Operation Market Garden U.S. Paratroopers.  It's a lesser-known part of World War two but if you wanna see a great movie about it watch "A Bridge Too Far".  Star-studded, well acted, historically accurate in many ways, and tells the sad facts of a sad story really.

Anyway, those and the Japanese are backing up here on top of the USMC figures which we got in droves.

I WISH I could find Battle of the Bulge.  It's my favorite battle and general piece of the war, and the figures are the best in my opinion.  I'd say the BotB line's best are as good as Hasbro's best basic figures like SA Clones...

They're awesome fodder, but if you wind up with left-over parts of 21st C. figures because you only wanted the head or whatnot, PM ME HERE! :)  I can use those parts for my actual 1:18 military habit.  ;)

The 2nd Wave of the Battle of the Bulge figs, are hitting heavily around my neck of the woods, S. FL. The've really kicked it up a notch w/ these figs. They've added extra heads arms, and over coats. It't like getting 2 figures in one. 21st Century Toys has really catered to Military 1:18 Scale Customizers, something Hasbro Should look into.

There is also an excellent river boat for the C.O.R.P.S. line that was a companion peice to that tank. Except for the gaudy baby blue color it definately has some nice potential as well. I half thought about getting it for a S.E.A.L. team but never actually got around to it.

Post by: Jesse James on April 7, 2006, 02:17 AM
I have a full set of the first series...  They're quite nice figures.

The Hot Toyz Aliens Vs. Predator figures are "Snap Kit" figures.  In Asia, you can pick these up while at the check-out at the store I guess...  Like beside candy bars.

Anyway, they're blind packaged (in the first series at least), and what you got was just simply luck of the draw.  There's a number of chase figures, and I happened tog et a chase Alien in my case I ordered.

The figures come in pieces, and you have to put them together.  It's fairly simple however you do need to heat them or they're prone to breaking.  They are nicely scaled to the SW figure's basic line...  Pretty spiffy overall.

The sculpting and detailing is unmatched by other Predator lines, though I think the MicroMan ones have cooler accessories, and probably more sturdy accessories.

The Hot Toyz figs are a little prone to falling udner their weight.  They're articulated with ball/socket joints EVERYWHERE which makes them fragile but they're really fun, I mean it's tough to describe how poseable they are and yet it's really well hidden.  The Predators even have little necklaces of skulls you can remove.  I have a Predator in my Cantina grabbing a drink and having a fight picked with him by Djas Puhr. :)  Bad move on Djas's part.

The Wave 1 figures included a number of somewhat "Basic" Predators and one cast in transluscent/clear plastic.  That one is to be using their see-through camoflauge from the movies remember?  Pretty neat idea, no? :)  I wound up with like an extra Scar instead of a chase Predator, but I got a blood red chase alien...  I also got 2 warrior aliens, a grid alien, and a transluscent alien.  There's an alien with a white brain too, dunno what that one's deal is but it's an Asian exclusive.  The Eldar Predator was the chase Predator but he is also regular release in the Wave 2 set (Fritz's is the Eldar Predator).

The Wave 2 set is different...  They may still be blindpacked, I'm not sure, but I do know that they EACH come with ONE piece to a massive Queen Alien figure.  You buy the set, you get the queen...  Unfortunately, not everyting in Wave 2 is "great".  Like one figure is just a facehugger egg pod, and another is an open egg pod...  Not much to it but that, and that blows if you ask me.

I want Wave 2 to get the queen.  You can get these for $10-ish a figure too, not $20, which is still pricey but worth it I think.  Check around and you can find them cheaper.  I got some for $7-$8 at one point to build a little army.

For the curious as to why I wanted these, if anyone is curious, I used to play Jedi Knight (Dark Forces 2) avidly on my computer.  The game was great, and at the time it had a VERY active editing community online...  Editors for games are people who take PC games and make new levels, new characters, new items, etc., and basically make the game fresh and new.  A lot of GREAT custom levels by editors are out there for the original Jedi Knight game...

One level by one of the best editors out there is basically a whole long level in itself that is a cross-over Story of the "Aliens" universe with Star Wars.  In it the Empire has captured and isolated Aliens from the film Alien(s) in a research center...  The Rebels think it's biotechnology being created for the war, so they send an agent ala Kyle Katarn (may be Kyle, I forget now how the editor designed the story exactly) to infiltrate the bas eand obtain data.  In the process though he unleashes the aliens and the base goes to hell.

The editor made aliens for in the game, they're just like in the movie...  The level's amazingly professional in its looks and design, it's a BIG level too, it's very fun and the way he uses the effects and tools available to him, it's even scary as it should be.  Aliens go after stormtroopers, stormies ignore you tos ave themselves,it's great.

I got my AvP figs then to do some crossover customizing/scenes at some point.  The Hot Toyz figures are simply perfect for that if you ask me then. :)

Hey guys,

I was looking arround for these Alien vs Predator figure kits that Fritzkrieg had posted. I found an online store where you can preorder a case. Here it is:

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/menu.aspx?menu=509

I also notice that Hot Toyz makes the ones that Fritzkrieg showed  us  but Kotobukiya makes the other set that come with the picest to make the queen. Check it out. This could make an interesting photonovel with the crossing of the two movies. I can see it now, General Quinlan Vos and  Commander Faie are on a search and destroy mission trying to locate General Grievous. They encounter a seperatist outpost that seems to be abbandond. Little do they know what lies down below. ;D

I thought you guys would like to know. If some of us get a case and get the figures they want, the extras could be offered to the rest of the group for sale or trade. I am willing if some of you are. Just my two cents.

TRU has started to stock direct to distributer new regular size GI Joes again. They have the three pack that includes Agent Courtney Krieger, Hannibal reborn and Spirit iron knife.  Krieger would be fantastic for a Mara Jade or Admiral Daala.

They also have the GI Jane from the Viper Lockdown set.

These are a little OT, but They are the Same Scale as 3 3/4 Star Wars Fig. and They look Sweet in Your What if Dioramas. Give the Predator a Few Sta Wars Artifacts, Like a Light Saber or Stromtrooper Helmet on his Trophy wall and Wala! You've got a Great Fan Fic Custom. These are Japanese Vending Machine Prizes, They Come Disasembled but, Once assembled they are Super Articulated and the Detail in the Paint Aps. Is Amazing. These Cost About $20 Bucks from my Local Comic Shop. But. for the Quality I think it's worth It. The Only Draw Back is that they Are Blind Packaged. I Got Lucky and Scored two of the Better
Figures in the Assortment.
Here are Some Pics.

I found this set at TRU also so I picked it up.  I like all three of the head molds on that one.  Some decent sword accessories too.

I think that Iron-Knife might work well for Vos.

I found these sets the other day too.  I recommend e-mailing the seller if you are going to order from him.  I ordered 5 pieces for $45 shipped ($7 a piece plus $10 shipping).  I'm a little suspicious about the fact that these are supposed to be blind-packed but he lets us pick which on we want, but I'll let everybody know how it went after I receive them.  The seller was very quick in his responses to my e-mails, so that was reassuring.

So Many Sci-Fi Designs have been Influenced By Star Wars, that Many of them Can Be Incorporated Back into the Star Wars Universe w/ Little or No Alteration at all. This RoboCop ED-209 Kotobukia Figure is Pretty Much a Rip from the AT-ST Walkers Seen In Star Wars. I Slapped a Couple of Imperial Insignias On Him, And Instantly I've Got a Cool Looking Imperial War Droid to use in my Dioramas and Photo Novels. I did'nt even need to alter the Paint. He Already comes in TIE Fighter Gray.

I've used Punisher and Hulk from this line in customs.  I've also thought about using Dr. Doom.  Some of these new ones look like they'll be good fodder.  However, the biggest problem I've see with these figures is their joint structure is so different than Hasbro SW figures.  It takes some creativity :)

Also, I just caught wind of a series of Pirates of the Carribean 2 figures that are supposed to be on the 4" scale.  Looked through some photos at amazon and there are some pieces that might be decent fodder.

To keep the Aliens Vs. Predator Snap-Kit theme of fodder running too, there's some majorly great news I'd talked about in the Other Toys section here for the past month or so.

The Hot Toyz line is expanding with a 3rd series now of "Aliens" Snap Kit figures.  The Aliens are resculpted and there's 6 new versions.  Alien A, B, C, and then each has a subsequent "battle damaged" variation of itself, so really there's 6 unique Aliens coming.  These Aliens don't have the canine-shaped legs on them, but rather they have the more human looking legs classic from the "Aliens" film.

The real news though...  Marines and Ripley.  Drake, Apone, Hicks, and Ripley to be exact.  Where the other really main players are, I do not know, but this series seems to be doing well for HT.  The line also appears to be revamping articulation at least on the humans to be hopefully a bit more sturdy and versatile.  Judging by photos anyway, the humans have what appears to basically be a ball/socket elbow joint on a pin-swivel.  It looks more strong and stabile to me.

These should be really great fodder, and really they should just be great collectibles too, as the S1 Aliens Vs. Predator figures are top-notch.

I finally found Elizabeth Swan from the Pirates of the Carribean line yesterday.  Also while I was at Toys R Us I saw this X-Men vehicle:

and thought with a nice coat of silver paint it could pass for a Naboo Starship.  The scale is wrong but the smooth lines looked right.

If it ever goes on clearance I might pick it up.  It was only $20 so I might buy it anyway wven thought I don't collect X-men.

It looks better than that Naboo Cruiser Padme flew to Mustafar in, even if it DOES look like it's got a bit of X-Wing in its DNA. It would look sweet if you painted it silver. You could also make a big Imperial Shuttle-style fin on the top of it between the ailerons, and you could have an Imperial Gunboat (mainly from the EU and Games, basically an Imperial answer to the Y-Wing)

It's blurry because i don't feel like digging for better right now, but the new figures are the 4 modern ones.  The two WW2 figures are from a wave ago but resurfacing alongside these moderns...  For most into this line they're still sparsley shipping as they're brand new.

There is a:
-US Special Forces: Afghanistan (the bearded guy w/ballcap)...  The figure lacks wrist joints and a removable hat, oh and no working holster.  Beyond that he's not too shabby.

-US Sniper...  He's the guy in the shrug (Guille Suit(sp?))...  Nicely articulated, interesting accessories for possible customs.  I've got him and only the back and helmet come off, not the arms/legs portions of the camo-ing.

-US Navy SEAL...  Best figure of the wave... Again though, no working holster.  Lots of other useful stuff for a diver figure though and whatnot.

-US Night STalker...  Chopper pilot, has laptop and whatnot, but again lacks wrist articulation for no real reason, no working holster.  Good figure though for the most part.

The WW2 figures both feature full articulation and removable headgear.  They also each come with a "heavy weapon" of some sort.  One with a Bazooka and I think the other had a Bazooka as well but now I forget and it's all clumped together so he maybe had a mortar.

All new headsculpts on all of them too btw.  A little "older" but not bad.  The WW2 guys should've had really young sculpts IMO though.

Anyway, these are just showing up now so your luck finding them will vary.  Only one TRU in my area got one case in as far as I have been able to find...  Good luck.

Darth_Ennis - I picked up some of those BBi figures about a month or so ago.  I really like the WW2 figures, they are much better than the 21st Century Toys figures from walmart.
I did not like the bearded/bare arms guy.  His arms are molded in green and the paint on mine chipped horribly.  Pretty lame.  Also, as Jesse mentioned, the hat is molded on.   >:(

This site is great, they have 3 seperate stores for different things and the SW stuff is coming very soon, This includes SW compatible parts and helmets, gear bandoliers, etc. Great place, and with individual parts at like a buck a piece its great. I am gonna blow like 50 bucks on parts as soon as the SW store opens.

Sheesh they need to just stick with the 1/18 scale line. Does anyone else have the problem when when you go to a walmart all you find is the 8 inch guys but when you got to TRU they've got the 1/18 scale guys? Is that common? Wish they'd distribute everything to all the stores lol.

So yea, Chewie I think you could turn that one robot into a loadlifter. I'd like to see it if you do.

Yup, same thing here.

Me too. Unfortunately, it looks like it's not the big H's fault. I think it's what the stores ask for.  :P

Nicklab-where did you find those hybrid sets at?
Chewie those ARE great and i'd love to see what you or anyboby else can do with these.   I saw these on toynewsi.com and they have another one this size that would be kind of cool to make as a Grevious SUPER BATTLE SUIT or something as it somewhat looked like the wheelbike without the wheel.

The modern Doctor Who line is more like 5" or 6"

There was a 3 3/4" line back in the late 80's/early 90's but they were rather lackluster looking.

I received my Aliens Snap Kits today. The detail of these kits is amazing. Hot Toys really did these right. They even did multiple paint aps on the weapon and accessories. I decided to diversify my Colonial Marines with a few head swaps. Now I just need another Tumbler so I can make these guys a kick ass vehicle. LMK what you think.

can you describe what the joints are like, Fritz? Would some of them be compatible with star wars figures, and if so, which ones? I know that it looks as if the thighs have GI Joe-like articulation, so it's a no-go for the thighs, am I right? Also, the knee joints look for awesome fodder for bounty hunters and such so I'm interested in those mainly.
Title: Re: Fodder Alert!
Post by: Jesse James on July 11, 2006, 12:04 AM
Fritz, can you give some detailed reviews on them...  Sturdiness, features like sheaths and holsters, plastic quality, etc., etc., etc...

I'm still not up to ordering these or S2 yet, but getting closer.  I have to get past this month's vacation and Toy Show before I'll have financial footing to get snap kit cases, but god I want both! :)
Title: Re: Fodder Alert!
Post by: Fritzkrieg on July 11, 2006, 12:34 AM
Guys, these are much sturdier than the previous kits. The articulation is still mainly barbell joints, which work much like the Ball socket joints. It is also better hidden this time around. The knee joints are very similar to the new articulation Hasbro is using on its Star Wars figs. The detailing is nothing short of amazing. Think 300th Fett only better. I did warm up my parts before assembling just as a precaution. The first kits I snaped together cold w/out problems but after reading that Jesse had broken his, I thought  better to proceed with caution on these. The Shot Gun Holster that comes w/ Hicks is a little weird and comes apart too easily but its extra so it doesn't bother me much. The Gun Straps are removable and can be positioned differently depending on if the figure is using the weapon or if it's strapped over the shoulder. This poses a slight problem, because the Straps come off too easily. On the Marines I'd say the Good outweighs the bad. The Aliens However are not as asteticly appealing in my opinion. I think this is mainly do to the fact that they are based on the Alien Rubber suit Costumes used the the "Aliens" movie. I prefer the ones based on the CG Aliens in "AVP". But that's just my personal preference. If I had a choice to go back in time when I placed this preorder, I would have gotten More Marines instead of the Aliens. Although the Aliens are much sturdier than the 1st 2 waves.
So, My final verdict is, Buy the Marines. If you want Aliens get them from the 1st two sets and skip these.

After this month I'm hoping to get a case of this wave and Wave 2...  Plus perhaps some extra Marines.

Do any of those pics show the Marines without their helmets on?

This is great stuff...  Me I'm gonna stick with the Aliens from this wave actually.  I liked the humanish look fo the Aliens in Aliens, and the sturdiness will help my decision too.  The S1 and S2 do have a habit of falling over though they are definitely less human looking with the canine legs and all.

It says they are 1:12 on the tags there so unfortunately they are going to be a bit too big.

BTW, to post pictures you just need to find the url for the picture you want to post, you can get it by right clicking on the picture and going to properties, and then copy that into your post and put the image tags around it, so for example here's what it would look like, just remove the spaces inside the brackets: [ img ]http://animenewsi.net/g/albums/Conventions/2006/SDCC/Yamato/DSC06589.JPG[ /img ]

By removing the spaces you'll get your picture:

Those do look damn spiffy though...  Nice stuff.

For the record, the Series 2 Zizzle POTC2 figures were found at retail by HunterofthePegs (from our forums here) so they're out there...  Some better fodder is in this wave so keep your eyes opened on your toy hunts.

Also I'm hearing Power Team Elite is showing up at Big Lots including their bunkbed/locker sets which are awesome.  If you're in the vicinity of one it's maybe a good time to look.  I'm gonna try to check a couple tomorrow.

Does anyone know of any cheap figures out there with diving equipment and/or flame thrower accessories? Also any fodder out there that has long tubes on them? Mainly looking for something with decent length of tube (ribbed...yes I know it sounds bad) to mold/cast for custom pilot figures. I was hoping The Corp figures had something that matched, but not having much luck.

So I stopped by Big Lots tonight...

TONS of Power Team Elite figures...  They had figure 4-packs, 2-packs with gear/accessories, mid-sized vehicles (littlebird, dune buggy, etc.), and other items.  They, best of all, had an assload of the bunk sets which never had been out at retail.  They're awesome.

Straxus, there was also Navy SEAL Diver sets, the best figure set of PTE, for $4...  There's a breathing pack in that.

Tons of great stuff though...  I hope some of the bigger sets show though like the old headquarters playset, the Tank, the Blackhawk, and also this awesome bridge playset that really looks like it has potential.  Great items overall.  I love these bunk sets though, they're great dio set pieces if you want 'em.

Check it out guys if you've got a local Big Lots.  Mine turned out to be a goldmine tonight.  the figures are decent base fodder too...  I'll probably be selling some of mine if anyone's interested (for cheap of course).

This may not be exactly fodder, but have y'all seen the $5 sized Ben-10 figures? The four armed guy & little grey guy would fit right into any SW scene. There are other figures that may work also, depending on your taste.  There's also a dog type of creature that would make a good beast.

I came across the two new POTC 3 preview figures last night at target. The Elizabeth Swan figure is fantastic fodder for a new Mara Jade or any other female EU figure. She wears a Japanese Kamino dress and her hair is in a ponytail. This figure is definately worth picking up for fodder. The Asian pirate is also a great figure for background EU fodder. I merged it up with the Fodder thread...  Those figures showed up on Ebay a couple weeks ago actually and I kept thinking how cool the rice hats were for Star Wars customs.  Those sort of traditional Earth-y looks can translate really well to Star Wars worlds at times.  That hat style was on Ki-Adi Mundi in some comic series, wasn't it?

Very cool stuff and a generic female headsculpt that well sculpted is as welcome as it gets in this scale anymore.  :-\

There's a couple great ball/socket headsculpts in there, and some modded older sculpts as well...  Lots of great gear too like D-Day assault vests and loads of extra arms, hands, heads, and heavy coats (open and closed).  Sachels, tools and other stuff are mixed in too.  Lots to love with these figures if you collect them but great fodder too of course.

Over on the Joe boards the word is that these are mass market releases.

They look Eff-ing sweet though, and I will be picking them up for my Joe collection.

So far, and keep in mind this is just speculation, the rumor is that they will be in the 7-10 dollar range.

Of course, there is also a r8umor that they might be released in 5 packs.

A total of 25 new sculpt joes are set to be released. Including a Baroness. They have been posting pics of the new figs at a rate of one per day since Monday.

Cool, I saw the pics and these look by far to be the best Joes ever made.  Hasbro I think has done everything possible to kill the line over the years, and is FINALLY moving in the right direction based on what these figures look like.

What really is great is that not only do these harken back to the original (more realistic) designs from the early 80s, but they also seem to be using Star Wars figures as a template for how to construct the figures?

I see some possiblities for some really good custom fodder there, as well as an urge to collect the damn things.  Yikes.

As for other parts of the forums/sites, I'm very well aware of them but am more interested in customizing, it's about 90% of my interest level in the hobby and that's probably not going to ever change.

OHHHHH NO!

NEVER              AGAIN.

Once, I left the fertile fields of the customizing section at RS and went out into the "other" sections over there.... What I found was astonishing. I discovered nothing but the worst of humanity - and a solid, chilling fear for our world's future! Oh, the horror! The inhabitance of that world were the most childish, asinine, & moronic group of sub-humans I'd ever 'met.'

I left that hell as soon as I could. And when I got back, I took solice in the soft blues & silvers of my homeland. I was relieved, complacent. Oh how I was thrilled to back - safe & sound in my little customizing community. Little did I understand the true scope of what I had done.

Only too late did I become aware of the consequences of my actions. You see, when I came back across, something came with me.... Slowly, at first, the minions of the 'other' lands oozed into the shadows of our threads. Then, in small numbers, they started posting. Here & there, they tested the waters. Poking, proding, they bushed buttons, and lit the smallest of flames. But eventually they grew braver. And then, one day, they were ready!

Certain that our community could be destroyed, they unleashed their greatest champion(s)! GreenDay101 was the first (and 2nd, and 4th...). Many fell to his truly insane brand of evil in those first few days. Many more followed. Eventually, he was repelled, but the land was never the same. We had hoped that the damage would heal itself. However his touch had poisoned the earth irreparably. The damage that he & his ilk had inflicted only festered over time.

Today, the RelmS are full of wandering, brainless comments that attack mindlessly on sight. Flames burn in every thread. War riddles the landscape, and Strife pollutes the atmosphere.

It is not safe there any longer. And it is my fault.

I will not let it happen again....

;) j/k - I'm sure it's better here  ;D

Hey guys,

Saw some new figures (new to me, anyway) over at WM at lunch. Both sets deal with motor cycle riders and seem to be better scaled and articulated than some of the earlier bikers. They were both in the hot wheels side of the isle but should be easy enough to find. They were priced the same as SW figures.

One that I almost picked up was a 'heavy rider' and had a mohawk and leathe gear. Would make a great bounty hunter/scum with just a bit of work on his chest.

Sorry, no pics....

www.toynewsi.com has pics of some new Sigma 6 vehicles.  They have a moddifed version of the walker that both Chewie & Fritz made customs of.

PenDragon, thanks for clearing that up.

Cool potential Hoth/Ilum playset fodder there...  Either seems like a good starting point once you ditch some of the details.  Pretty simplistic design too...  I never did get the Isle De Cruz playset for my XD military figures like I wanted but I'll live. ;)

The figures look to be pretty bland in terms of poseability but as far as random background fodder bits and good headsculpts, they look outstanding.  I'm curious about more of this toy line surfacing.  Glad there's something new entering the 3.75" market too besides what we've already got.

Yeah, I saw all the "Golden Compass" pictures at another website...Interesting stuff...Poseability doesn't seem to high, though, as mentioned.

There's also a figure based on Nicole Kidman, but it looks pretty lousy.  Thankfully, it was listed as "pending actor approval", so hopefully Nicole will make them resculpt a better head.

I'll definitely be making a James Bond custom with that awesome Daniel Craig head.

And, assuming Hasbro ever makes a good TPM Obi Wan and the Nicole Kidman head comes out, I'll finally be able to finish my "Moulin Rouge" custom series and diorama!  :D

Ok, I saw these Golden Compass figures up close at Toy Fair...they are definately in scale.  I believe they intend to have more articulation than shown as well.

The poster they had for the figures showed 8 and showed articulation in the elbows and knees at least, possibly more.  We were very rushed at the Master Replicas booth and abandoned by our guide so we did not get any details.

Also of Note, besides that line there will be a 3 3/4 inch Harry Potter line too.  It was in a "No Photos" zone.  They had a House or maybe the Hogwarts playset, but it was nice looking too.  Not quite Star Wars, like the Golden Compass Snow Cave...also that Polar Bear they were using is in some of the Chap Mei sets, so I would guess those were mostly prototype things.

Sorry we couldn't get good info and photos at the show, but you don't want to get me started on that portion of the trip.

I'll look on my camera and see if I got any photos that haven't been uploaded, but I think Rob had the majority of photos from the MR/Corgi booth.

I guess the success that Pirates had in the 3 3/4 scale has helped other companies choose the same scale.  I alwys assumed that Star Wars was the exception, and that most companies found 7 inch (or so) figures to be a better sale.  It's nice to see "our" scale coming back though.  Who knows, maybe we will get that Indy Jones lines that covers all four films in 2008.

These are from Schleich and are going to available either now or soon.  They are 1:18-is in scale  The trees were all over their showroom at Toy Fair.  Even the Smurf section...

Title: Tomart's latest guide features Harry Potter/excellent Star Wars fodder
Post by: UKHistory on June 12, 2007, 12:41 PM
If you have have a chance to check out the latest tomart action figure magazine, you will see excellent imagest of upcoming Harry Potter 3 3/4 actionf figures and playsets.

I didn't have a chance to take photographs but I encourage others to check it out.

30 figures compatable with Star Wars.  I don't know the characters but an older female witch/teacher and an old wizard/head master of the school certainly would make excellent Star wars customs.

A lot of younger male and female characters (Tenel Ka?) of various races for jedi, background humans whatever you want.  A really cool flying dragon/demon creature was there as well.

My personal favorite however was a building playset that could either be an enclosed building or be spread out to reveal the insides of a great hallway.  With its many windows it looked very much like the Theed Palace hall way.

The female figures included a soft goods skirt.  Impressive articulation and excellent sculpts.

The question is, will these items be sold in the States?  I sure hope so or at least be available on-line.

A Theed palace playset would be great for episode I figures.

Not sure about an online edition.  The figures looked great, there would be a lot of customizing potential.  Unfortunately, it said that the United States would not be getting this line, which is a shame, because it looks like the line would sell well in the United States.  Hopefully it does well and when the next movie comes out they will market it in the U.S.  If my scanner is working again, I'll try to post pictures later.

Pics of these are floating around on the net somewhere...  Haven't seen the figures as much as I saw the playset, which had some nice furniture and things I'd have liked for military figures...  Bummer on them only shipping overseas, but that's the breaks.  Guess it'll be some pricey import fodder.

We were talking about this over at Yak some.  Not releasing these in the US?  That sucks, these look like  a line that would be supported by the US market.  I would love to see some of this stuff in person for potential custom playsets.

Via ebay I picked up the first four:  Harry, Hermione, the red headed kid, and Gary Oldman.

Great facial sculpts.  Top knotch.

The head pop off ala Captain Antilles and General Dodonna.

Figures are sturdy but NO leg articulation and come with black stands with small peg.  Arms, waist and head moves.

Magic wand accessory tiny and easily confused with a splinter of wood.  Does fit into their hands nicely though.

Looks like Entertainment earth is selling cases at a pricey point.

Would like to have the playsets possibly, the witch teacher and the wizard (great robes) are definite if gettable, the villains, and a few more of the classmates for heads.

With legs unable to move, limited playability for kids so I can see why there is a limited US market.

I will try although I am not very experienced with digital photography.

Gary Oldman's outfit reminds me of Sleazo guy selling deathsticks at the night club.

I should also say of these figures that the torsos pop off from the waist.  The girl's legs rotate allowing for her feet to be pointed in different directions.  The legs don't bend or move.  Her skirt is plastic and is glude in place.  It is possible to remove it but like the Pirates of the Caribbean figures, the plastic material may rip.

And Chewie:  Can not wait for the next installment of the Enloe series.  I really enjoy all aspects of it.

And the pictures of your child are great too.

Stopped by TRU over the weekend and they had a couple of figures from Narnia that are 3 3/4 size some singles & a couple 2 packs.  The articulation is on par and maybe a slight better then POTC figures.  There was a Wolfman that was particulary cool, and would make for maybe a cool Shistivan Warrior-kinda like the other Wookies are bigger then Chewie.

Got the latest issue of Tomarts this week.  No pictures, but a few little tidbits of info.  There will be a Heroes line of 3 3/4 figure (single card and boex sets).  Also, Playmates got the license back for Star Trek and plan on producing a 3 3/4 line as well.  This seems to be the scale for figures again.  Also, saw wave 2 of the Jakks 3 3/4 Wrestlers at a Wal-mart and TRU this past week.

Picked up some Indy figures today.  The nice thing is the Marion and Irina heads fit perfectly on the Juno/Deena head peg without alterations.  Easiest customs ever.  It's nice that the two lines are easily compatible.

Golden Compass figures are being dumped at Big Lots for you who have Big Lots to check...  I dunno how far around the country those stores go, but they're kinda nice to have around here I've found, as far as customizing and cheap tools go anyway.

They didn't have a ton, but they did have a little of just about everything...  I got two of the main hero guy with goggles, 1 Sam Elliot, and 1 of the really big dude who I hadn't found yet.  They had the floating vehicle balloon thing for $15, figures were $4, and the big battling bears were $6...  They didn't have ALL the figures though, like only one Tartar warrior, none of the weird elf-like chick, and none of the main hero chick (Tom Cruise's ex-wife?).

The figures are pretty useful if you have good parts to go with them, and the gear's not bad at all for various items.

Not much in line for other fodder there right now, but there were a TON of Hot Wheels Speed Racer items dumped at the store I was at too.

Didn't take long for those to get shoved out of some store, eh?  Amazing what a movie flop can do.

Interested in picking up more of the Prince Caspian Figures - I have 1 Tyrus and the Articulation on it is spot on, and I love the fact he can give out a geordie kiss (headbutt), the sword is well mad as well, proper plastic unlike Hasbro's Star Wars weapons which are very much made of rubber/plastic.

Also looking forward to get my hands on the Harry Potter figures (its nice having your Mom Living in England at times), I wish the Dr Who figures were done in this scale as well (oh well you cant have everything).

Will be picking up the Star Trek figures, will make some interesting Star Wars Figures (I hope they do an Andorian and a Tellerite, also a few Klingons).

The Speed Racer Figures are really only any use for the heads, Spectre has done a nice figure with the Trixie Character.

Golden Compass and POTC are good figures and I need to get some of these, never did get any, but I wasnt building up my custom fodder then.

Hellboy and Heroes are looking cool, especially the Trenchcoated Hellboy.

I think 2009 will see the increase in the 3 3/4 line, it means kids can get more figures.

I have yet to see it in person but it looks like the upcoming Comic Pack with Talon Karrde has some of the best SA sleeveless male arms out there. I may have to pick up a bunch of that comic pack, just for the arms. Nice SA arms, cast in fleshtone plastic so there is no need to worry about paint chipping? Count me in.  :)

Yep, Darth Delicious just used those arms on a custom recently -

Quote from: DarthDelicious
Here's one I've been working on today while sick in bed.

It's Canderous Ordo, from Knights Of The Old Republic! It's mostly the new comic pack Talon Kaarde, with a new head and an old Solo vest. I still have some paint work to do to make this more accurate, as well as maybe finding another head...this one is okay as a stand-in, but doesn't look enough like Ron Pearlman for my tastes, who Canderous always sort of looked like to me...but there you go. I think I also overdid it on the beard stubble.

-DD

Definitetly some good fodder in that Thrawn/Karrde set.
