Other Toy Lines / Re: Pacific Rim Toys
« on: July 29, 2013, 08:58 PM »
I was in TRU on Saturday and completely forgot to look for the Pacific Rim toys! Argh!  Good chance they wouldn't have had them anyway, but I just saw this thread and now I'm pissed at myself.

I wouldn't mind having a Gipsy Danger figure, I like the design.

   E...

EE has a pre-order listing up for the 18" Gipsy Danger figure, I believe it is $89.99.

The smaller battle-damaged version with chain sword is also coming in Wave 2 which is expected to ship late August/early September.

Confirmation via Twitter last week that we are getting Cherno Alpha in Wave 3!  ;D

Sounds like Coyote Tango may be joining him. No word on which Kaiju will round out the wave, not Otachi though.

Yeah, I picked up a googly-eye Gerry Lane and Paramedic Zombie last week to complete my collection. I doubt we'll see any past those first four. (thankfully)

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Thank God. Stick with the original playbook and go with lesser known actors.

I still love the idea of John Noble as the villain though.

Plagueis is the gem of the wave. :o

I concur. That freak looks awesome. I foresee hard times finding him at retail.

Nice job!

I ended up overpaying for the Early Bird kit, but I got the catalog and free stand. I only need one because I don't plan on removing the figures from their cards anyway.

Now I just have to lock down the prototype 2-pack. Hard to say if the price on that will go up or down over time.

you would think Hasbro would want everyone who wants one of these to get one in their hands so they don't turn off any new "line buyers" for this 6" scale.

Exactly. And that is exactly what they have done with this Hard-Core Completist Collector. "Hey, your collection is incomplete before you even started! Ha Ha!"

Well, fine, congratulations, you managed to piss me off and force me out of this line before I even had a chance to get excited about it.

In fairness, I was on the fence somewhat about diving in, but they went ahead and decided that for me.

I checked three different Big Lots stores in my area this week - no sign of any MOTU.

Same here, no luck at all. :(

Thanks for posting that. For a company as obsessively secretive as Hasbro, they don't seem to have much reticence about sharing when LFL is the driver behind an unpopular decision. (Like killing TVC) I don't think anyone had gotten bored with that packaging yet, just bored with seeing the same 6-10 figures everywhere they went.

Still mixed feelings about the realistic Clone Wars stuff. They've pretty much done all the main characters already, or at least they will have once Rex and Mace come out. You can milk a few more Maul repaints maybe, but what about after that? They need to be open to non-core figures that would still sell well - (see Mandalorians).

I liked the AT-RT set because it gave me another chance to pick up a Tactical Droid, plus it made good customizing fodder. They got the driver's helmet totally wrong though. No cheek flaps. Luckily I picked up some custom cast Phase II helmets that look perfect on there. Looking forward to posting some pics soon.

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6 Inch Figures?
« on: July 23, 2013, 09:12 AM »
I'm still on the fence too... I might pick up a few OT characters, like the main gang, Vader and Fett, and that's it. I have a feeling before long retailers will drop the price to $15 a pop. I can't imagine these staying at $20 when you have $15 Marvel Legends and $15 Mattel/DC's Failure-Of-The-Month Line right next to these.

Agreed. I am probably out anyway, but it's a lot more tempting at $15 than $20.

Space is really the constraint for me though. If I knew how many of these would ultimately be produced, it might be easier to forecast the necessary square footage. There's the rub though. You just never know.

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?

Well, that sucks, IMHO. I was hoping Disney would bring the toy production in house like the video games, animation, etc. I know logistically speaking that was not likely to happen but it would seem to fit their overall business model.

Over the past few years it's just become apparent to me that they have had the license too long. They've gotten greedy and lazy and don't seem to have a clue how to effectively manage the brand anymore. A younger, hungrier company could really work wonders to liven things up. Someone who is passionate about the creative opportunities and not hung up on the $%^&* bean counting.

I get that it's a changing economy, changing play habits, more competition, whatever. But that doesn't explain or excuse a lot of the missteps we have seen over the past few years. It's hard not to be curious about what a leaner more motivated company might do with the license.

Oh man, he will be missed.

My favorite role of his was from Midnight Run. He had some great lines in that movie.

"You and that other dummy better start getting more personally involved in your work, or I'm gonna stab you through the heart with a ******' pencil."

I agree some of the best stuff was in this line and will miss it. Would have been a good place to slot in a few of their "realistic" TCW offerings.

Regarding the Yoda line sets, I think the overall sales were hurt by the fact that neither Walmart nor TRU ever really sold these. At least not in any #'s. You only see them in Targets anymore. I must have bought 2-3 each of the Dropship and AT-Rt sets too. After awhile, even for customizing they get old, y'know?
