I found a U clone this weekend, that was definately the highlight. I did find the GH wave last week with Maul and company. One of the targets I stopped at had raised their GH prices to match the Saga figures (5.89). Something to look for, as target had been 4.79 for these every other store I checked.

I might have to see if I can't drop some lines/save up so I can get a couple to have on display. The Unleashed line is great, but these look pretty high quality. What is everyone's overall opinion of these things?

My opinion is to find space and money for a couple of them that you really like.

I have the dewback, and have a tauntaun on order. I think they are magnificent, and the unleashed line is the line I dropped in order to have the money/space for these. I also trimmed my mini-nust collection. While the mini-busts are great, a case full of head-and-shoulders loses something compared to the full statues. It's just an opinion, but I have had no regrets having done what you are thinking about.[/

The firespeeder pilot, Lushros, and Talz are tempting. I ordered a later case from Newforce, so I should be OK in the Cody department-

I found my first U-clone this morning  ;D

Makes the weekend a little brighter.

Now if only his commando friend had been there...

I was really going to work hard on buying less Hasbro this year. But some of these figures are simply great. I like Sun, poggle, and of course the clones. Sora doesn't impress me too much, he likes like 33% of the old Jedi three pack at 70% of the price.  And C-3PO, well, that part of the movie didn't tickle my funny bone, so to be offered two different ways to not buy it seems like overkill.

I can't wait for Death Star and Tatooine to start showing.

Wow, that is really something. At more than 90.00, Vader works out to nearly a quarter million dollars for the edition size of 2500. That should help recover some of the mold costs.
When you think about the cost of the statues, the diorama almost seems like a bargain. Big emphasis on almost there, in case you missed it.

Newforce has re-listed cases (wave 4) with 2 scorch and 2 U- troopers! You also get a couple of Yoda's and 4 Carkoon figures, but at least no Bob For-tuna!

I guess I think of Darth Vader as the mask and helmet and much as anything else. It is a little gruesome to have out with a couple of young girls in the house, so I will pass.
I think they made a good estimate with the edition size; not so little that people don't get a shot at it on the primary market, and not so large that it detracts from the collectibility.

I can't find a store that puts out more than one case at a time, despite the pegs being empty. And that's checking about a dozen stores more than once a week. You live in a fortunate area-

My stormtroopers are integrated in to the death star area, flanking Darth choking Antilles. For the most part I keep them wherever they fit best. If they don't fit in to a current display, I keep them together off to the side.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Outbound Flight- Timothy Zahn
« on: March 1, 2006, 11:47 PM »
Well, I thought I would start a new thread here. My wife picked me up this book last week, and I had a day off so I spent it with the Thrawn and company.

I was a big fan of the Heir to the Empire series. And I read a few other books by Zahn, so I was looking forward to this read as well.

I think the author does a great job of character building, and I think that was the strength of the Heir series. Mara Jade, Pelleaon, Thrawn, and even Luke and the Solo's seem very vibrant and have depth. Characters are the cornerstone of good storytelling, and Zahn paints people well with words.

I did find myself not "connecting" with the new charcters in this story as much as I would have liked. I won't go into great detail, because it is a very new book. The main theme is, we get to know more about Thrawn. The background is the Outbound flight of Jedi and pioneers setting out to explore beyond the galaxy. There are some very interesting sub-plots, with Sidious working his magic. I was a little confused with some continuity issues, but I will let that dialogue begin when a few others have joined the thread.

It's a pretty quick read, so if you have some free time, grab a copy and join the thread!

I have to jump in and defend my kubrick pimp  ;) .

Most of my imperial army is comtech troopers, with a smattering of officers from various years. But when I first started building up, it was the sandtroopers that got me started. They had a unique sculpt, unlike any figure before, and I believe may have been the first that used both hands on the weapon at the same time. I had to have a dozen of them blasting at the falcon in docking bay 94 as she lifted off. They weren't perfect, but you could get a half dozen different poses out of them that looked decent in poor lighting.

But that dewback.....(shudder)

I hope they find it in their hearts to do that poor beast some justice some day.

I was 25, and just starting to pick up vintage stuff that I used to have. A 2-1B or Luke Hoth would set you back 10-15 bucks loose. All of a sudden, these new figures started showing up (and cheap). I dumped all my vintage stuff except things that I had since I was 9, and focused on the new figures. I had a great time running around collecting them, opening them, and getting a set for my brother in law (he was 11 at the time). The stores certainly supported the line more then, but it was the only star wars game in town, so that make more sense. I look back, and think it is actually harder for me to find figures now than it was back then. So much for a decade of distribution resulting in progress...

I may not currently like the looks of buff Han and luke, and the inflated darth, but I do remember the hunt fondly. And getting a Luke Stormtrooper for 4.00 was incredible. Not to mention getting that Han stormtrooper in the mail, just like the old days.

I have been a little concerned with not finding a scorch or UT clone. I know it is early per the schedule released earlier this year, but I have seen the remnants of the wave for a couple of weeks now. The Hoth wave only seemed to be a 4 week window in my neck of the woods, so that would leave me about two weeks left to hope to find these two guys. I would put the date of the first state-side sightings for the next wave sometime next week (March 6-10th), with widespread sightings by that following weekend.

The case assormtents for the rest of the year according to EE leave a lot to be desired. Particularly scorch (1 per case in a UGH wave) and the UT clone. Cody, Darth Hoth, and a couple of others look to be around in plenty come Christmas time.

Well at least he spelled belligerent correctly 50 % of the time.

I for one think this is a pretty cool exclusive, I just wish I could use those d*** Mastercard "galaxy reward points". I keep waiting for MBNA to get a new exclusive- I guess when they do I'll grab a couple at that point.

So, to get back to topic- does it come with a helmet?

And I'm an AP fan, for the record. Have been for years. I don't have to agree with everything someone says in order to value their opinion.
