But now, several years older and wiser, I'm conciously holding off on the Millenium Falcon.  I don't think they're all going to sell right away.  The pricetag is a little prohibitive for that.  Plus, I'm in the stores often enough to recognize when things start to disappear.  Here's to hoping it goes on clearance at Target around Christmastime!

That's what I've been trying to do as well, with the Falcon.  I'd really like to pick it up, but I do have the POTF2 version too.  My wife doesn't see why I need the "same ship", and I can see her point, and plus, I don't have the room for it right now.  The ones I have seen at Target and TRU haven't sold, and are still sitting there, so maybe there is potential to get it cheaper later on.  I could justify a $30-$40 price much better than $50 to $55.  It does look like a nice upgrade though, and we probably won't get another one for quite some time.  Plus, its my favorite ship of the Saga, so I'd really like to get it, even if it is just for the purty lights on the back  :P

Vintage Kenner / Complete Loose Figure Collection?
« on: August 10, 2004, 02:36 PM »
I know I am behind many of you in the vintage forum, who already have a complete loose figure collection from the vintage days.  Is anyone else still working towards it?  If you already have your complete collection, what are some of your favorite pieces (or stories on how you obtained them?).  I try to pick up a few more here and there (in between modern purchases) to work towards a complete collection (someday)...but admit that I haven't been able to get much for quite some time.  I'm hoping to start back in again here soon, with a little bit of a break with much of the OTC line being recarded figures.

I have basically started from scratch, because although I did have most of my figures from my childhood, they weren't complete (or necessarily mint in some cases), and I wanted everything to be.  Anyways, so far I have 31 figures (that I am happy with the condition), and I'm working first towards getting everything from the New Hope (or Star Wars, if you prefer) lines through the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi lines.  Then, if I ever get that far, we'll take a look at the POTF figures.  Although I do enjoy the modern stuff, something is just so fun about working at finding, scouting out good deals, etc. on vintage figures.  Plus, in some ways it is nice to know there is an "end" to your collection, and you aren't constantly getting further behind :)  Anyways, anything you'd like to share about your loose figure collection...do you have it, what are you missing, what are your favorite figures/stories, etc.?

That's pretty much the same concept I go with in general Ben, and you said it much shorter than I did ;).  The basic figures, I pretty much buy them when I see them.  They aren't as big of a hit on the bank account at $5 per, and they seem to disappear quickly.  I too saw the OTC the first week they were hitting everywhere, and haven't seen them since.  Luckily I was able to find the Dagobah/Bespin waves that first weekend.  Occasionally, I will pick up Unleashed right away, specifically if I know it is a tough one to come by.  Otherwise, I tend to let the higher ticket items (ships, etc.) go for awhile if I don't have the funds.

Maybe this belongs better in a different section, since it isn't necessarily "exclusive" to the OTC figures, but since that is what is supposed to be currently shipping, I thought it somewhat applied here.  If not, feel free to move!  Anyways, I was just wondering when you go out checking the stores for Star Wars, and you see something new (that you want), do you go ahead and buy it right away?  My wife gives me a hard time because when I see something new, that I don't have (and want), I usually just buy it right away (within reason, have to pass on higher ticket items like the new Falcon, etc. sometimes).  I do this because (1) I want to add it to my collection and (2) Star Wars, at least in my area, often seems like if you skip it the first time you see it, you might not see it again.

Of course, it always depends on the figure/vehicle/toy/statue, etc., as some of them seem to come back again (especially lately, with repack mania going on this year), but I guess there is always just this thought in the back of my head that "if I don't get it now, its not showing up here again."  Of course, I am within reason, we're not going without food or something so I can have a Star Wars toy ;).  I was just wondering if any of you experience this too, it seems like collecting Star Wars is a hobby that can sometimes be "get 'em while the getting is good"

Kubricks / Re: Kubricks and Minimates
« on: August 10, 2004, 12:03 PM »
Tower Records looks like they have the LOTR (Series 1) two packs available online for $7.99 each.  I'm still awfully tempted to start in on this line, but I'm just not sure.  I don't know that I am crazy about the "C3" idea that we are hearing in this line's future as well, just for the fact that there is the risk of having figures be "exclusive" to the sets, and missing out on those or having to buy a set just to get 1 minimate.  Anyways, anyone else decided what to do with this line?  I'm just not sure, I really like the figures, and it would be easier to have a larger group/display than with ToyBiz figures (which I don't have much room for, probably looking to get 10 or so total), but these lines tend to have a number of exclusives/chases, and they aren't at mass retail, so it might be hard to keep up.  I've kind of thrown the towel in for now on Marvel Minimates, partially because I have Spidey and most of his villains, and partly because the difficulty of keeping up (and I was behind to start with).  Anyways, still contemplating LOTR minimates, although I am currently trying to cut back my "other" lines.  At least they are wee, and wouldn't take up much space  :P

JD Sports Forum! / Re: NBA Offseason

I was glad to see that finally go through too, as well as the offer match with Hassell.  Maybe overpaid a bit for Hassell, but he is a good player (and I think a good guy), and is an important part of the team.  Glad to see both of them stay.  11 guys under contract is a good thing too, I agree Jeff...I'm usually upset with the "status quo", but this seems like a good team to keep together.  Glad to see Spree and Hoiberg stay on board as well.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Pegwarmer of the Year Award
« on: August 10, 2004, 10:18 AM »
The newest Saga pegwarmer around here seems to be Gen. Dodonna.  This guy is keeping the pegs at Target nice and toasty, and has made appearances at Wal-Mart and TRU as well.  Another figure that I see quite a bit is the repacked Hoth Han.  I used to worry that I'd miss this figure (with the 2003 shipping problems), but now I see him about everywhere too.  On my last trip to our closest Target, they had 13 Star Wars figures.  9 General Dodonnas, 3 Hoth Hans, and 1 SC Anakin.  I don't see that many Dodonnas selling anytime soon :).  I used to look forward to new Saga stuff showing up, but now I'd wish they get off the pegs just to see OTC figures sitting there.  I've found all the "new" OTC figs (still a few repacks to get), but if I'm going to go to the Star Wars aisle and come away empty handed, I'd sooner look at those black and silver beauties instead :P.  That said, we never did see the Endor wave around here either (thanks Jeff!)...here's hoping the OTC repacked General Lando is easier to find.

Collections / Re: posters/lithos/print/artwork - who collects 'em?
« on: August 10, 2004, 10:02 AM »
I just posted a question about Star Wars posters, sorry I didn't see this thread first.  I don't know if I technically "collect" them or not, but I do have a few Star Wars posters.  Right now I'm in the process of getting the "original" looking ones, but I'd kind of like to pick up the Special Edition versions as well.  If I had the room to display them all (or talked my wife into letting me use the basement), I'd probably pick up more, as I've always enjoyed the art used on many posters.  Wouldn't mind picking up more various Star Wars poster prints (different styles), or some of my other favorite movies.  Very nice collection by the way, it looks great.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Modern Masters of the Universe

That sure is strange.  Seems to be a lot of "strange goings on" with the MOTU line lately, well, there always did seem to be some problems here and there with it.  Mattel just doesn't seem to know what they are doing, period, I guess.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Vintage OTC Figures
« on: August 9, 2004, 04:15 PM »
I agree Scott, the color hasn't ever seemed quite right on Yoda...and the facial sculpt has always been a little less than I would think they are capable of since he is an "alien", which are sometimes easier to nail than human sculpts.  Still looking forward to finding that figure though.

I see that Galactic Hunter has a feature up on a VOTC R2-D2 PROTOTYPE, which does in fact show the sensorscope.  Nice to see this included on our favorite astromech.  Click the above linky for more pics.

I see that GH has a report that the VOTC Vader and Yoda have now been spotted at a Target in Arizona.  Good to hear these are showing up in more places.

Other Collectibles / Star Wars Posters
« on: August 9, 2004, 02:07 PM »
I don't know how many of you buy/collect/display posters, but I really enjoy them.  My wife bought me the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi movie posters, and framed them, for my birthday a couple of years ago.  I've always wanted to get the rest of the series, to have all six movie posters displayed.  For now, I just want to get the New Hope one next, and I have been trying to decide which version to pick up.  I was curious what some of your opinions are, between these two posters (courtesy AllPosters.com).  Also, feel free to post any posters you like, enjoy, collect, etc.  Really looking forward to that VOTC ANH poster that Hasbro put together as well, looked pretty neat.  Anyways, which of these do you prefer for A New Hope (or Star Wars, as we used to know it)?

Other Collectibles / Star Wars "Buddies"
« on: August 9, 2004, 10:48 AM »
While checking TRU a couple of times this past weekend for any new VOTC sightings (sadly, none), I see that our store here has started to have these buddies hanging around.  I've neer had any of these, although we did pick up the Chewbacca for our nephew when these were released in the POTF2 days.  I was slightly tempted to get these (maybe because I didn't find anything else around town), but in the end held off.  Do any of you have/want these?

Middle Earth / Re: LOTR Trilogy Figures
« on: August 9, 2004, 09:29 AM »
Saw several of the Black Gate set this weekend at Wal-Mart.  They were actually on the very top shelf of the aisle, in an odd, "outside/pool" toys area.  Probably wouldn't have even seen them if we wouldn't have walked through that area to go buy bath products.  The MOS figure looked pretty cool, but I don't think I could plunk down the money just for that figure.
