Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Super Hero/Comic Book Movies

Update to my post yesterday, SHH now has the complete text of the Fantastic Four panel, as far as the Q and A with the cast goes.  Some interesting stuff in there, and a few hints of the movie...also, there is an audio clip of Chiklis saying 'its clobberin' time".  Kind of cool.  Check it out HERE

Galatic Heroes: How many kids lines do you need? IMO, if there are two of these kiddie lines, why the hell would the basic 3 3/4" line need action features to attract the kids if all their parent's money is going to be spent on these? Methinks it's a case of the right hand not knowing what the left is doing.

Good thought regarding the return of action features, I never thought of it that way.  Although I know we're never ones to say "stop making all this Star Wars stuff", it does seem kind of excessive in some ways.  They are bringing action features back to the basic line because "the kids love 'em", so that is something they consider a "kids" line....we have Galactic Heroes, which is a "kids" line, and now they are introducing those Jedi Force figures (although they weren't shown at Comic-Con for some reason), and those are also a "kids" line.  Might be spreading it a little too thin here pretty soon.

It is hard to fit them all into 10, but I'd like to see a few resculpts from Endor (Han, Luke, and Leia).  I think they all could use an update, with what we have seen Hasbro is capable of now with the OTC (the new ones) and vOTC.  Others from Jabba's palace would be nice, but I couldn't fit into the list of 10.

Return of the Jedi
1. Luke Endor
2. Han Endor w/trenchcoat
3. Leia Endor
4. Hermi Odle
5. Skiff Nikto
6. Romba/Warok Two Pack
7. Weequay Skiff Master
8. Chief Chirpa/Lumat Two pack
9. Luke Endor
10. Moff Jerjerrod

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Burger King Glasses Figures!!!!!!
« on: July 27, 2004, 03:28 PM »
That's one of the reasons I've left them boxed too, easy to stack...consistent looking.  I keep buying them for the glasses too, although I don't have another Slave Leia figure besides that one.  That is one reason I was thinking about opening it up, but I might wait to see if I can find an OTC repack one later on when it is released.  Thanks for the tips guys, on what you are doing.  I'm with you, I'll buy as many as they release, just because I like the glasses.

For those of you who have picked any of these glass sets up, do you open them up or leave them in their little plasticy boxes?  Right now I have mine boxed up, but thought about opening them just to display the glasses (since the figures are just repacks, and it would help a little bit with space issues).  For now they are ok, since I only have two, but while re-arranging things to (hopefully) create more space, it just got me to thinking about whether or not I should open these up.  Especially with possibly a few more coming up, as Scott reported earlier (Han, Yoda, Boba).  Plus, I'm still looking for that Luke one....nothing but Obis and Mauls sitting around here.

There seems to be a few more at this link.  A few posts down, they are listed (at least for now).  There also seems to be a couple of Vader shots from ROTS, so spoiler-sensitive people be warned.

Just found this pic on another forum, looks like an updated Jabba from A New Hope:

The Original Trilogy / Re: Ian McDiarmid now in ESB

I don't mind the new lines added in either, they don't sound too bad.  Interesting all of the changes that are coming to light now, I hope they all look/sound good when we sit down to watch these movies in September.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Boba Fett..... Voiced by Jango Fett?
« on: July 27, 2004, 02:13 PM »
Yeah, just came from the "ROTJ Ending" thread to post my thoughts...but it is starting to get a bit much.  I don't know if it is quite necessary to do some of these changes...Fett/Stormtrooper voices being one of them.  These are certainly starting to sound like different movies than the ones we grew up with.  I am still looking forward to them though, and actually, part of me will be anxious to see how the changes look/sound when actually sitting down and watching the movies.

The Original Trilogy / ROTJ Ending Footage
« on: July 27, 2004, 02:11 PM »
I've started to see "confirmatons" of some of these changes now, and I'm not sure what to think.  Like it was said before, the "original" versions of these movies were gone once the Special Editions came out, and I wish we could have DVD versions of the films as they were originally, in the theatres back in the 70s/80s.  Those are the ones I grew up with, watching, and loving.  Don't get me wrong, I still can't wait for these DVDs, but it won't ever be quite the same now, will it?

That said, I guess it is Lucas' right to do with these movies what he wants to, and I don't have any problems with cleaning up effects shots, matte lines, etc.  I also don't mind replacing certain things to make them look better (the SE-added Jabba comes to mind), as I am sure they can do a much better job now.  This ending scene I'm not so sure about, it will seem so different every time I watch it, but I guess I can appreciate tying the entire saga together a little bit too.  Right now, other than similar characters/planets, I don't know that the bridge between the PT and the OT is all that great.  Although, hopefully Revenge of the Sith will help that as well.  I definitely don't need to hear a Gungan yelling "wesa free" at the end of the Saga though.  Yikes.

I guess the bottom line is, there's not much we can do about it...and hopefully certain changes won't be as bad as we think.  I'm still greatly looking forward to the DVD release, changes or no changes.  And, like I said, I can appreciate the fact of trying to tie things together a little more too.  Hopefully it isn't messed up too much, and fans won't be upset again (of course, we're always upset about something, aren't we? :P)

Conventions / Re: 2004 San Diego Comic Con
« on: July 27, 2004, 12:06 PM »
Definitely a big thanks to Matt, Jared, and everyone else that was out there "getting the dirt" on Hasbro and other companies' plans for their Star Wars lines.  And a BIG thank you for running around picking up all of that stuff for all of us here, it was so incredibly helpful of you.  I hope you had enough time to actually enjoy the convention as well, when you weren't lugging bags of JD forum member swag around :-*.  Anyways, thanks again for the helpfulness, as well as for the great coverage here at JD.  You guys are pillars of the community here, thanks much!

SuperHeroHype.com has a nice article up discussing the Fantastic Four movie panel held at Comic-Con.  Some interesting details in there, I'm kind of excited to see how this movie turns out.  It doesn't sound like Thing will be completely CGI, instead Chiklis in makeup.  Clicky the link for more.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Time for some new flip-flops.
« on: July 27, 2004, 09:26 AM »
I've actually been thinking about getting some new flip flops soon here too.  I wear sandals whenever possible for the most part, and have been sporting some well worn in Nike ones pretty much 24/7 for the last few weeks.  Just comfy, and easy.  I have looked at picking up just some cheapos at a couple of different places (Wal-mart, Old Navy, etc.), but they never have a size close enough for me (I wear a 13/14 shoe).  Either they don't make them, or I miss them.  No biggie.  I'd like to get a new pair though, then at least I have some lazy footwear options :P

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2004: What Are You Collecting?
« on: July 26, 2004, 03:11 PM »
Well, after a spendy month (for me) of $100 or so, I'm trying to really assess what I'm going to continue to collect.  So many different lines have been tempting or appealing at one time or another (Lord of the Rings, Muppets), or due to nostalgia (MOTU, G.I. Joe)...but I think I'm going to try to have to limit it to Star Wars, and one other line (which looks to be Marvel).  We just don't have the budget for a whole lot more it seems.  Plus, I don't have the room anyways really.  I think, aside from the occasional figure from other lines here and there possibly, I'm going to try to stick to these two.  There seem to enough "sub areas" in each of these lines to keep me more than occupied the way it is  ;).  Anyways, as (another) update, this is what its looking like:

Star Wars
3 3/4" Basic Figures/Ships/etc. - Only a few repacks from the OTC that I missed out on the first time around (Gam. Guard, Slave Leia, newish Bespin Luke, General Lando, possibly Fortuna).  Also, the rest of the VOTC line (have picked up Obi, Han, and Leia so far).  I'd like to get two of each of those, but not sure if that is going to work out.  Also plan to pick up the new Slave 1, hopefully the Sandcrawler, and possibly the re-done Falcon.  I'll also be on the look out once the new waves (shown at Comic-Con) start to hit.

Unleashed - I continue to collect these, only the OT ones for now though (although I do have a Yoda).  I'm planning on picking up Bossk, Tusken, IG-88, Stormtrooper, and the recarded Vader and Leia that are coming up.

Galactic Heroes - I like this line, and hope to pick up the new 2 packs coming up (both now and in the future).  I've also been sticking to the OT sets in this line.

Glass Sets - If these continue, I will pick up any OT ones.  Still looking for the Luke ESB glass, and if the Han/Boba/Yoda glasses that were on the main page awhile back make it to stores, I'll be on the lookout for those for sure.  The figures included stink, but I really like the glasses themselves...even if they are plastic.

Vintage - I'm still hoping to work further towards a complete, loose collection of figures...but I haven't been able to put much cash towards that lately.  Something I will be consistently pursuing though.

Other - The Gentle Giant Bust-Ups, as well as the Kubrick line have both tempted me, but I'm just not sure if I will be able to collect them or not.  They do both look pretty amazing though.

Marvel Stuff

This pretty much has an order of Spidey first, then X-Men and/or the rest (specifically Avengers, Fantastic Four, etc.)  I wouldn't ever be a "completist" with the Legends/Classics lines, but probably stick to the characters I am most familiar with from my comic reading days, or ones that really looked spiffy.

Spider-Man Classics - Any new villains, and new Spider-men that might look good.  Right now I just have one basic red/blue Spidey (parachute), that I am happy with, but we'll see which other ones are tempting.  Otherwise, I will be picking up the bad guys (usually 1 per wave it seems).  Can't wait for the Sinister Six box set, but I guess that is technically Marvel Legends....

Marvel Legends - So far I have X-Men from this line (Beast, Colossus, Wolverine, Gambit, Magneto), but I have been tempted to pick up some more (Iron Man, Cap. America, Silver Surfer....upcoming Hawkeye, Vision, FF box set).  Also, hoping to get the Brown Costume Wolvie, Juggernaut, and Phoenix from ML 6.

Spider-man Movie figs - I have a couple different movie Spideys (super poseable, magnetic, 18" tall one), and I'd like to get a Doc Ock figure eventually.  They don't really show up around here very often, and I'm kind of waiting for the "bendy tentacles" one.  I might end up skipping it, we'll see at the time I guess.

Marvel Minimates - I really like this line, but I'm trying to decide if I need to choose between this one and Legends or not.  I'd like to do both, but we'll see.  So far I have the following:  Regular Spidey (x2), BD Spidey, Maskless Spidey, Thing, Cap. America, Doc Ock, Venom, Carnage, Green Goblin, Dr. Doom, and Absorbing Man.  I really do like this line, and they don't take up much space, so that is appealing too.  I don't think I'd ever be a completist with this line either, too many exclusives and figures to catch up on (for me).  Neat line though.

Anyways, sorry for another long post...bored at work today with not much to do.  There are always some miscellaneous Star Wars things I pick up too (books, vintage glasses/stuff, posters, etc.)...and like I said, the occasional figure from other lines (part of me wants to get a few more LOTR figures, such as Aragorn, Frodo, Sam, and Merry).  That would complete what I really want from that line (have Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf, Pippin, Gollum).  Anyways, have any of you had to re-assess what you collect or buy?  There are other lines I'd like to be further into (Marvel, LOTR), but it always depends on funds.  Star Wars will always get the majority of my time, money and attention :).  Good luck to everyone in their searches and collections!
