I'm not sure how many comic readers we have here, and I'll admit that I am just getting back to comics after a long lapse...but I saw this while visiting Marvel.com today, and thought it sounded interesting:

Avengers Disassembled

I personally haven't really read any Avengers comics since I was a kid, but this sounds pretty interesting.  Sounds like it is a big crossover...and I'm sure many of you know much more about it than I do.  Anyways, I thought it looked interesting.

Recently, I've kind of started getting back into comics.  Outside of Star Wars, it was one of my favorite things as a kid, and I have found (at least so far) that I enjoy them quite a bit now too.  After advice from people here and at GH, I have picked up Ultimate Spider-Man TPBs 1-8, and just finished with the Venom arc (#6).  This is a really good book, and I'm glad many of you suggested it.  I'm trying to get caught up.  I also recently subscribed to Amazing Spider-Man.  I hope that it is a decent book...it was my favorite as a kid, and as silly as it might sound, I kind of like "getting something in the mail", so I thought I would subscribe.  I'm kind of interested in getting a few more titles here and there (checking out an X-Men, Avengers, and/or Fantastic Four book), but I spend enough on Star Wars (and Marvel) stuff already, so I'll probably limit it to Spidey for now.  Anyways, any of you reading comics (past or present ones)...or anything you are looking forward to?

Superhero news today...first off, kind of a good news/bad news type of thing....Bryan Singer has been confirmed to be at the helm of the Superman movie now.  Good news for Supes fans, however, he will not be working on X-Men 3.  I hope that this franchise is able to continue (and with the same quality) without him aboard.  We'll see what this does with the casting, release date (it was 2006), etc. for X3 now.

Also, The Avengers DVD is official.  Sounds like it will be based on "the Ultimates" version of the team...including Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor.  There is also mention of development continuing on Iron Fist and Black Widow movies.

Also, it sounds like it is possible we might hear an announcement regarding a "live-action" Transformers movie at Comic-Con.  You can read the details HERE

Went to see Spidey 2 this weekend for the second time, still just as amazing.  Can't wait for the DVD of this one.  SuperHeroHype also has some news of Spidey 3, possibility of two villains for the next installment.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Tantive in the Insider!
« on: July 19, 2004, 11:35 AM »
Surprisingly, I received my copy of Insider last Friday, and I really like these pictures as well.  It seems like the more OT elements that make their way into the prequels, the better I like that particular prequel movie :).  These pics definitely whet the appetite for Episode III, it is shaping up to be a good one from what we've seen.

I was curious...it seems the general consensus on the OTC is that the cardbacks are pretty fantabulous...has it tempted any of you to leave them carded (that normally don't)?  I am a loose collector, but...until I clear some space...I have left the Dagobah and Bespin waves in their boxes, stacked in the closet.  I plan on opening them up later this week sometime once I have time to reorganize a little, but I was wondering if any of you (who collect loose) have been tempted to leave them carded...or to pick up extras of any in particular?

I haven't picked up anything new (found Dagobah and Bespin waves last weekend), but I did see a few OTC here and there (at Wal-Mart).  From what was left on the pegs, I saw 1x Lobot, 1x Cloud Car Pilot, 1x Boba Fett repack and that was about it.  Everything I saw last week when I picked up my figs was gone, so they seem to be selling pretty good so far.  On a side note, when I checked the figs at Wal-Mart, I did see an about 6-year old boy pick up a Fett and a Wicket and ask his parents if he could get those (and they said yes).  It was nice to see a young'n interested in Star Wars, especially the OT.  I also saw 2x of the Jedi Council pack at TRU, but couldn't bring myself to spend $20 on it.  I do want to get it so I can have the whole circle though, so maybe another time.  It just felt like I was buying some old Episode I figures (which you basically are with that set).

Its plastic fur, and to me, at least from the pic they show, it doesn't look too bad at all....much better than past versions.  I was really surprised to have it show up in the mailbox today, since it wasn't supposed to "ship" until the 22nd (and usually it is a couple weeks late getting to me, but we've since moved).  Maybe it was because I recently renewed my membership, there are some nice Episode III pics in there too.

I'm not usually a 12" collector, but thought I would post this for anyone interested.  I just received the latest issue of Star Wars Insider in the mail today (#77, the new "look" one), and they have confirmation (and a pic) in there of a KBToys exclusive 12" Chewbacca.  It doesn't look too bad from the pic they show, I think I might actually have to pick it up if I can find it too.  If you have the insider, check the Hasbro toys section.

I haven't seen this at retail yet, but I have seen where some people have (there are some pics on the RS forums if anyone is interested).  Anyways, are any of you going to pick this up?  Although I already have the POTF2 Falcon, I was considering getting the new one since it looked like the new electronics, etc. might be kind of spiffy.  After seeing some of the pics, I'm not sure now.  The "redesigned" cockpit isn't as nice as I thought, and it looks like there is no "dashboard" anymore.  One of the pics at RS has VOTC Han in the cockpit, and it doesn't look as if Chewie is going next to him, but I could be wrong.  Anyways, are any of you picking this up, definitely not, or waiting and seeing?

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Vintage OTC Figures
« on: July 16, 2004, 02:52 PM »
I know, it seems like they forgot about it.  Hopefully we'll get some pics of him as well next week at Comic-Con, since they haven't put him on their site.  For those of you who have gotten the VOTC Obi-Wan, what do you think of that figure?  I've got one on the way, but from the reviews I have read so far, it doesn't seem like he's really getting glowing comments from people.  Han seems to be a favorite so far, and Leia has sounded like it is a pretty good figure as well, but I haven't seen as much positive about the old hermit.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Muppets
« on: July 16, 2004, 02:33 PM »
I'm not collecting this line (although it has been quite tempting a number of times), but I see that EBGames has the Backstage Playset up for preorder, shipping in September.  If I was into this line, I'd be so psyched for this playset.....plus, it has a "regular" Rowlf...my all time favorite Muppet :P  If only I could get the figure without spending $50 (not that the playset wouldn't be worth it, but where would I put it?)

Kubricks / Re: Kubricks and Minimates
« on: July 16, 2004, 02:25 PM »
Just received my third set of minimates, via Amazon.com, this afternoon:

This is a pretty neat set I think, Captain America is one of the best made minimates I've seen yet, and I also like the unmasked Spidey and Doc Ock.  Absorbing Man I really don't know much about, but its nice to add another baddie to the mix.  These little guys are becoming quite addicting :).

There's a nice review of the Sinister Six box set found over HERE.  I don't know about you guys, but I am really looking forward to this set...hopefully it isn't too tough to find, otherwise I do see that Amazon has it up for preorder too.  Looks nice!

Several different Marvel movie tidbits courtesy of SuperHeroHype:

First off, there should be a 66 minute animated Avengers movie released by 2006.  This is the beginning of 8-10 picture deal.  Check it out HERE

Next, Ioan Gruffold (Mr. Fantastic) has a small interview about the upcoming Fantastic Four movie...with details HERE

Also, Jessica Simpson has apparently NOT been cast in X-Men 3...at least not yet.

They also mention that the cast of Fantastic Four will be on hand at Comic-Con.

On the DC side of things, there are rumblings that Jack Black might be cast to play the Green Lantern in a "zany, Mask-like movie".  Hmmmmm...
