Twins Owner Carl Pohlad (http://wcco.com/sports/carl.pohlad.dies.2.900540.html) dies at 93.
-
I'm not the world's biggest Pohlad fan, but it is sort of sad that he didn't make it to see his new ballpark next year... he tried for 10+ years to get it and now he'll never see it - a bit of irony in there I guess.
-
Eloise Pohlad dies in 2003, Bob Casey in 2005, Puckett in 2006, now Carl in 2009; This team can't take too much more lose to it's core.
I wasn't a big fan of Carl's since he tried selling the team in 97 that would have moved them to North Carolina, but I have always been a Twins Fan. He will be missed. You know that this upcoming season will be dedicated to him, as will opening day at the new park.

CNN.com (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/01/06/yankees.teixeira.ap/index.html) is reporting that Mark Teixeria's 8 year, $180 M deal is now finalized and set.
Yankees have spent $423.5 M on 3 players this off season.
CC Sabathia - 7y/$161M
AJ Burnett - 5y/$82.5M
Mark Teixeria - 8y/$180M
Combined with
A-Rod - 10y/$275M
Jeter - 10y/$189
This is just proof that baseball needs a salary cap more and more.
-
Oh well, one less billionaire in the world.
-
It's going to be EXTRA funny when the Yankees don't make the playoffs this year.

Henderson, Rice given Hall passes (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090112&content_id=3740171&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb)
Rice finally makes it on his last try... 15th time is the charm I guess. Maybe next time, Bert. :-\
-
Rickey Henderson is the greatest of all-time (http://www.lemmingtrail.com/mb/173277/).
And if you don't believe me, just ask Rickey.
6) This one happened in Seattle. Rickey struck out and as the next batter was walking past him, he heard Henderson say, “Don’t worry, Rickey, you’re still the best.”
-
A-Rod out 3 months for hip surgery :'(
Thank God for our strong pitching and Mark Teixeira.
But I wonder if we can still pry Manny away...

I noticed last night when Japan was celebrating their WBC championship that one of the players/coaches name on the back of their jersey said YODA.

Just found out the Angles Pitcher Nick Adenhart from last night was killed in a car crash along with three others. Reports state that another man killed in the crash is also affiliated with the team. This season is starting off ugly for my team, first a fan gets killed at the stadium and now one or more players may of being killed.
Angles Pitcher among those killed. (http://www.ktla.com/landing_topstories/?Angles-Pitcher-Nick-Adenhart-Among-3-Kil=1&blockID=262344&feedID=1198)

They spent the rest of the night pleasing the crowd of 36,973 by beating up on a division rival that shelled out more than $400 million in offseason acquisitions with hopes of regaining supremacy in the AL East. (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=290413130)

Are nothing more than a Ponzi scheme. They spend all this money to bring in all this "Super" talent and get their fans all excited. And when it comes down to it get their asses handed to them by the Devil Rays. A team that's payroll is not even 1/8 the Yankees, but can obviously produce better than the Yankees.

Eh hem,
Devil Rays.

Eh hem, Devil Rays.
They will always be the Devil Rays.

I think the WS appearance last year shakes that nicely.

The Texas Rangers 2nd baseman, Ian Kinsler becomes the first player in 119 years to get 6 hits in 6 at bats in a 9 inning game, and to hit for the cycle. The last player to do so was William Farmer Weaver while playing for the Louisville Colonels on August 12th 1890.
As being reported on MLB.com (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090415&content_id=4289562&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb).
That would have been awesome to see.
-
Wow, 6-for-6 with 2-1B, 2-2B, 3B, HR, 4-RBI, 5-R, and 1-SB?
Man, that is a fantastic night. Even more impressive that the Rangers didn't even bat in the bottom of the 9th, so really he did it all in just 8 innings!

Exactly. That is a career night for him. The spirit of Jackie Robinson was definitely channeled in Texas last night.

I should just go copy and paste my A-Rod post from a few months back and change the name, but instead I'll just b*tch again.
Stupid jerkass MLB stars who have to ruin my favorite sport by cheating. How in the world do you try to cheat now when they are actually testing and doing something about it. Screw you Manny. I hated you anyway you quitter, but now you really suck. Up yours.
If any of the 20 something stars come up steroids positive I don't know what I'll do.
-

Well don't count Manny among the steroid positive, he's been tested 16 times in the past 5 years and steroids were never found.
This suspension is bogus. An MD scripted him for hCg concerning erection issues.
It has performance enhancing effect, but only between the sheets. Not on a baseball diamond.
-

ESPN is saying that this stuff is commonly used to re-start testosterone production for people coming off of using steroids. Sounds to me like he's beefing up in the off season and then not using during the regular season.
-

I guess it's possible.
Just looking at the guy, I don't think he's a steroid user, and he never has looked like one. Also, here's a guy who has already won 2 World Series championships, is already a lock for the Hall of Fame, and has already gotten his big money contract.
Canseco, Giambi, Bret Boone, Bonds, A-Rod, McGwire - I don't doubt any of these guys did it. Manny I still have my doubts.
-
Listening to the local station that covers the Dodgers here in L.A. on my way home, they had one of the weekend host on, who is some medical professional. He was talking about how Manny has a lot of stuff he has to explain about testing postive for this drug. He bought up the two reasons why Manny would take it, low testosterone or fertlilty treatments, he also talked up it being used in striods use.
What ever the reason Manny is an idoit. If I was making $25 million a year and I know I have to get tested for certain drugs I would make sure my doctors get the list of banned stuff I should have. Since he didn't it will cost him $8 million plus if would to test postive two more again he is banned for life.
-

Corrected. I agree he's an idiot. Just about a half year ago, a few football players were suspended for supposedly not knowing they were taking dietary drugs that had banned substances in them. You think every professional player in every sport would have known to consult the list before taking anything now.

You can say he's not a steroid user since hCg isn't a steroid. But saying the suspension is bogus sounds a little biased to me. The rules say you get suspended if you use this and why wouldn't you use the team doctor that would know this?
-
Just two random MLB things I had to comment on.........
Bobby Jenks was fined $750 for throwing at Texas Rangers. What is $750 to a pro athlete? What if your work fined you 75 cents for something? Would you even think twice about doing it again and not care about the "change" if it benefitted you?
Roger Clemens says he wouldn't take steriods because it would be suicidal. He said his family has a history of heart problems. His brother and STEP FATHER. Um, I didn't realize step genes passed on. I wonder if when you divorce a person and get a new step parent if you lose those genes too?
-

Maybe his step father passed him down a pair of blue jeans when he was younger, and he just got confused? ::)
(Excuse the lame ass pun. Lack of sleep is hurting my brain something fierce at the moment.)
-
I still think Roger Clemens is innocent.
LOL. Okay not so much.
But I'm still giving Manny the benefit of the doubt.

This had me laughing about Carlos Gomez:
"MILWAUKEE (AP) - First Carlos Gomez heard voices. Then he watched his iPod go haywire after he got out of the shower, sending him scrambling for the lobby without stopping to put on his pants and shoes.
The inside of the hotel has that ominous "Shining" feel to it. (Pfister Hotel / Special to FOXSports.com)
After last year's experience, the Minnesota Twins outfielder didn't want to go back to Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel. But Gomez had to stay there when the Twins were in town to play the Brewers last month, so he brought some protection: teammate-turned-roommate Francisco Liriano and a Bible.
"Everything's scary," Gomez said. "Everything in the hotel, the paintings and pictures, it's a lot of old, crazy stuff. No good, man. No good."

So, last Friday night there was a NL West game between the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres. Other than those markets, probably not many tuned in to watch; however, it was significant because the Giants' Jonathan Sanchez threw San Francisco's first no-hitter in 33 years. It was also significant because Sanchez was making a spot start since being demoted from the rotation after posting a 2-8 record and 5.30 ERA during the first half. In 50 games started over the last four years, he'd never had even a shutout, let alone gone nine innings. And what makes the story all the more remarkable, is that his father flew in from Puerto Rico to see his son pitch a MLB game...for the first time.
I'll admit that I was watching the game last Friday, but after the fourth inning, opted to stick in a NetFlix. I'm kicking myself now. After the movie ended, I switched to the game and was probably 15 minutes late for the last pitch. I'd missed it all live but for the next hour and a half, I soaked in all the relived drama and interviews I could.
Last night, they replayed the game in its entirety and it was awesome. His pitches were electric and his curve was filthy. If not for an eighth-inning error, it would have been a perfect game. But to me, after waiting 33+ years to see my Giants throw a no-no, it was perfect. This is why baseball is special. Awesome, just awesome.
And I'll admit that I was riding that train pretty hard for the Giants to trade Sanchez to get a bat, any bat, but now I think they should at least keep him to see what happens. Will he regress or will he maintain what he learned during his demotion? Hopefully he'll be better and the Giants will have a starting three to rival all others. But if it doesn't work out and he regresses to his career 5 ERA, at least he gave us Giants fans a game to remember.

I scored some behind-home-plate tickets for Tuesday's Ranger game against the Red Sox. Not much else to report, but I haven't been to a game yet this year and the seats are great.
Of course, this time next month I'll be at a Cubs game. :)
-
I'm sort of hoping for Pirate tickets (oh yes, I'm serious) from my gf's company. They have a private box, and man that dessert cart rocks balls when it rolls around. Best chocolate cake I ever had. Plus big screen tv's to watch something good! Oh, and 2 beers, all you can drink, all night! :)
-

I'm surprised you can't just walk into the Pirate's ballpark and watch for free anytime you want, at this point.
-
You more or less can.
Seriously though, tickets are cheap... They sell alright because I think most who go just like baseball in general, and the roster's pay isn't worth a piss. They're making money... The park generally draws the "crowd" (they don't sell out by any means though). Then there's fireworks nights, which they have almost every-other-night. Everyone loves fireworks, right? :D
Nice park, good food... You may catch a decent team in town too, to play against them. Eh... It's a formula.
They were saying the other day on a local sports show how there's kids in college, who've never seen a winning Pirates team. I can recall the Leland/Bonilla/Bonds/Van Slyke era... It's becoming foggy to me though, haha.
But our ballpark is gorgeous, seriously. :) And that cake... Man that was good cake. Plus Newcastle beer all night. And the TV's... There's lots of things to do beside the game, basically.
They can't all be Steelers and Penguins I suppose. >:D
-
They can't all be Steelers and Penguins I suppose. >:D
That's true, but if you aren't even gonna try then they shouldn't have a team. Selig almost contracted the Twins a decade ago. At least we are trying to win even if we don't spend a ton of money. Why own a team if you don't care to try?
-
Congratulations to Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox who threw a perfect game today, the first since Randy Johnson in 2004. I'm glad I started him on my fantasy team today!
-
Carl Pohlad was for getting rid of the Twins.....fair weather fan he was.

I hope it's the Twins, but our pitching staff still scares me. I think whoever it is will only have 85 wins so that certainly helps.

I'll go with Detroit.
Especially if Jarrod Washburn keeps throwing the way he has this year.

The AL East just got a lot more competitive. Victor Martinez to the Boston Red Sox.

How 'bout them Yankees?! :D
-
How 'bout them Yankees?! :D
Playoffs baby. This is the year.
-
What the heck do the White Sox think they are doing? They can't get Rios now too. The AL Central clearly has a stirct rule that states you can only get out your coin purse to pay new players. Oh wait that is just the Twins CHOICE of how to do things? Never mind then..........
-
Pretty impressive for Tulowitzki to hit the cycle yesterday. He's only like the second player in history to do that and have an unasissted triple-play.
-
Just heard the stat on ESPN that in the history of baseball before Joe Mauer this year there have only been four players to have 25+ HR and have a AVG. at .380+ this late in the season: Ruth, DiMaggio, Gehrig, and Ted Williams. WOW!!!!!!
-
Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Pirates, the only team in history out of all four major North American professional sports leagues to have 17 consecutive losing seasons!
You've managed to out-suck the 30s-40 Phillies, the 70s-80s Vancouver Canucks, the 80s-90s Sacramento Kings, and the 80s-90s Tampa Bay Bucs. Congrats!
-
No wonder Doumit is pissed.
-
I'm thinking that when the Cardinals beat the Yankees in the World Series this year and Pujols has two rings we can really start talking about him as arguably the best ever. And how nice will it be to have it be a player that is even a better human being.
-
Justin Morneau out for the season with a back injury (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4473567).
I think that just about does it for me, I'm ready to give up on 2009. Even if we somehow manage to snap out of our sub-.500 funk and win the division, we'd be facing the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs... the same guys we went 0-7 against this year... back when our staring pitching was still 'good' (and I use the term loosely). :(
Oh well. At least I have a new stadium to look forward to next year... :P

I don't follow sports for the most part, but I believe the Twins will be playing the Yankees IIRC? Haven't they slaughtered their opponents in the past few years when it comes time to playoffs?
-
Fun game to watch but.... I was watching it on a sportsnetwork up here: Sportsnet West. At the end of the 10th inning they went to a hockey game (Calgary vs Montreal)! I get this is Canada, but there are 78 freaking more games before the end of the season versus a playoff baseball game? Just as stupid if in May they went from a playoff hockey game to a regular season baseball game. ::)
Happy the Twins won. 8)

If the Twins had a healthy Morneau and Slowey I'd think about picking them...same old same old in that they do not have the talent to compete. Do I hope they win? Of course! Do I think they win? No way in hell...

Did they pay off that piece of **** ump in Left Field. Holy ****...that was the worst call I have EVER seen
Not that the Yankees should not have won...you don't leave 12 people on base...but HOLY ****...that was terrible...absolutely terrible
-
s A-Rod's postseason jinx finally at an end?!?!?!?! HE TIED UP THE GAME IN A CLUTCH SITUATION!!!!!
I absolutely, positively HATE it when announcers say things like, "Nathan hasn't allowed a Home Run yet this year." Why do they say stuff like that, they know they're tempting fate. AAAARRRRGHHH! :'(
Friggin' Joe Nathan. >:( Friggin' leaving all sorts of guys on base. I think it was the 4th when the Yankees put two guys on base for us with HBP... and nothing. Then in the 5th, 2 walks... and nothing. ::) So many chances to put it away, and nothing.
-
Good thing you weren't getting your hopes up, Jeff.
-
I think Mark Texeira's walkoff HR tonight may be yet another positive mark for him in the march toward the AL MVP.
-
MVP voting already took place...no comment on the real MVP getting ****** in the ass by the blind umpire?
-
Just saw the replay. That ball hit on the line, but the ump blew the call. It happens. It was in the shadow cast by the wall onto the field.
Does that one play mean the game? We'll never know. Lobby for replay to be adopted by Major League Baseball. Or ask the Twins to protest the game.
-
Hit on the line?? It was fair by a foot! A foot! With the Ump looking right at it

Looks like at least a foot to me...
-
I watched a realtime replay. It was pretty tough to judge the exact placement of the ball when I saw that. And that's the human element of officiating. The ump blew the call.
Where are the Twins on this? Gardenhire was talking tough about it in the postgame press conference. What about during the game? What about playing the game under protest?
We can all argue about this until we're blue in the face. It's not going to change the outcome of game 2.
-
Rockies and Phillies are playing in Denver tonight. A Bunch of my frieds will be in the color guard up there tonight.
That's if the game isn't called on account of snow. :o

The Twins stranded 17 runners during the game. Sure I don't like when umpires blow calls, but no team should complain about a single call when they had 17 other opportunities to win the game.
Besides, does anyone think the Twins are going to upset the Yankees?
And if you think I'm just saying this because I'm a Yankee fan, I made a similar comment 7 years ago when the Giants blew a playoff game against the 49'ers with a bad call on a field goal at the end of the game. They blew a huge lead in that game.
-
I'm not complaining that the Twins should have won...they had lots of opportunities. I am complaining that an Ump can miss a critical call that badly
-
But who's to say that a blown call cost the Twins the game? There's myriad possibilities about what might have happened if the ump had gotten the call right. Even if the Twins had scored a run based on a Mauer ground rule double, the Yankees still had homefield advantage. And that means that they get last licks in an extra innings home game, along with a chance to either tie the game up or take the lead to win.
-
Human error is something that will be around forever.
-
I'm not saying that that call cost the Twins anything...we could go on forever with hypotheticals. That call probably did cost them a run and the game might have been tied instead of over yadda yadda yadda. It just sucks as a fan of the team that got screwed that it had to happen in so critical a spot.
-
The Twins lost and it's over.
But MLB has 6 umps instead of the normal 4 in the playoffs so they can make all these calls correctly and that what is just so hard to swallow for me.
-
The Yankees did more than their share to win that series, but the Twins sure did all they could to give that series to the Yankees too.
-
Holy crap! What a win by the Yankees after 5 hours, ten minutes and 13 innings!
-
:)

Looks like the Yankees finally out spent everyone by enough to win another championship. Yippie.

It sure does. The Yankee payroll (http://www.getlisty.com/preview/2009-mlb-team-payrolls/) is over $50 million larger than the next biggest (about 33%). They went out and threw stupid money at Teixeira (9 years, $180 million), Sabathia (7 years, $161 million) and Burnett (5 years, $83 million) - and that's only this year. I like the Yankees. When the Rays are out of it (which is most of the time) I root for them. It's their prerogative to spend whatever they want to, and it's worked brilliantly - but unlike lots of Yankees fans, I don't have any illusions about how the organization goes about building the team.

but unlike lots of Yankees fans, I don't have any illusions about how the organization goes about building the team.
Neither does Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano, Melky Cabrera, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada or Joba Chamberlain.
I suppose the Angels brought Bobby Abreu, Juan Rivera, Scott Kazmir, Tori Hunter, and Vladimir Guerrero up through their own farm system, right?
And according to your chart the Mets, Cubs, and Red Sox should all be in the playoffs right now over the Phillies, Dodgers and Angels.
-
Whatever man. I'm not saying free agency is bad, I'm just saying that the Yankees outspend everyone by a pretty large margin, and that (after a few years of underachieving by their standards) this year they landed the biggest free agents by dropping a small fortune. I'm stating facts.
And Abreu isn't much of an example... the Yankees dumped him, no one wanted him, and the Angels signed him for a song.... 1 year, $5 million.

Looks like the Yankees finally out spent everyone by enough to win another championship. Yippie.
It was actually some of the role players that won last night's game. Sure, Alex Rodriguez came through with a clutch home run to keep the Yanks in game 2. But the guys who finally broke that tie were Jerry Hairston Jr. and Melky Cabrera, not the big names. And Melky came from the farm system.
As for the payroll? As a Yankee fan I look around the major leagues and regard some of the other teams. Some of whom have very rich owners who could spend as much as the Yankees on payroll. IIRC, the owner of the Twins is probably one of the richest owners in the majors. Does he put a lot of that money into the team and onto the field? There's some serious talent on the Twins, and they won their division. But they didn't advance to the ALCS. The Mets have a very high payroll, but poor management. So spending doesn't equate to value.
George Steinbrenner used to drive me absolutely crazy, and when he got banned from baseball I was thankful that he had been shut up. But he's got a committment to winning that you have to respect, and the willingness to invest in the team. He sees the players as an investment to get more fans in the stands and to drive up revenues. Now did the Yanks lay an egg with some of the high priced seats in the new stadium? Absolutely. I saw way too many empty seats near the dugouts this season. Even during playoff games. The Yanks responded by upgrading people's seats during the game to those seats in an effort to fill some of them, but they could only do so much. And they're responding by lowering the prices on some of those really expensive seats.
As for Abreu? I was really surprised that the Angels were able to sign him so cheap. But he wound up being a solid performer for them this year and earned some of the incentives in his contract.

After watching the Yankees/Twins series and Yankees/Angels series on Fox, I'm pretty sure Skip(is that right?) Carey wants to make sweet passionate love to Derek Jeter. Yes he's a great player, but it isn't amazing that he knows which base to cover, etc.

CC is a pitching machine!

Yes Rob, as you can clearly see from the winners of the last 10 World Series', payroll determines the winner.
You don't know what you're talking about. CC Sabathia, a free agent signing, faced an Angels lineup with almost all of the stars being free agent signings.
Get a life.

I don't think money buys championships, but I do think it buys a better chance at winning.

The Yankees payroll sure isn't hurting them any, but it is sort of overrated. Like DR said, if spending was all that counted, the last ten WS would have turned out differently.
The big difference is that this year, the Yankees seemed to have guessed correctly on who they gave the big money too. Instead of dumping money on junk that never panned out for them (Giambi, Abreu, etc etc) they gave it to guys who actually played well this year (Tex, CC).
Another big factor is that this year's A-Rod (3 straight post-season games with a HR; 8 straight post-season games with an RBI) seems to have dumped his post-season curse... which I find pretty funny. The same year that he finally owns up to steroids is the same year that he finally plays well consistently in the post season - can you say karma? :P ;)
-
MLB got to be pretty embarrassed with the job the umpires are doing so far in these playoffs. I know human error is a part of it, but it can't be this often in the most important games of the year.

A-Rod, another massive, massive dollar free agent signing.

Should we check Rob's posts complaining about the Red Sox buying a team the year they broke the curse?

Relax, I like the Yankees. My family is from New York... I used to go to their games as a kid. I'm only half serious on all this buying-a-championship stuff.
-
Nobody is talking about another HORRIBLE umping call? That's funny...also went the Yankees way? At least this one didn't cost the Angels really anything but that double play call was bull****...almost as bad as missing a fair ball call 10 feet in front of your ******* face
-
The umpiring in game 4 was attrociously bad. And the umps definitely made some makeup calls, too.
Besides that, congrats to the Phillies for winning the 2009 National League Penant!

Crap. My flight chief is a big Eagles and Phillies fan. The rest of the flight is probably going to expect us to fight at some point. :D

WOOHOO!!! Yankees win the AL Penant!!!

What is the Yankees payroll this season $300 million or so? They all play within the rules so I never get upset with the Yankees themselves. Is it fair? Heck no man! LOL! But they are well within the rules so get mad at Bud Selig I guess? How they allow one team to get $300 million and another $50 million is beyond me but hey whatever. Then they wonder why their sports overall popularity has gone down. Hmmm....NFL has a salaray cap and is the most popular sport...hmmm. Oh I could go on forever.
-
What is the Yankees payroll this season $300 million or so?
Nah, low $200's. No team has ever come close to $300's.
But they are just playing by the rules set up for 'em, and paying the luxury taxes to the other teams, so it's all good in my book.
If they were ever breaking any rules, I would not support them.
-

Where in the world is there any kind of a correlation between the NFL's salary cap and the popularity of that league? Answer: There is none.
Football is popular because it's made for TV. There are very few games relative to baseball (16 to 162). The number of games, the schedule and the television contracts make it much easier for the NFL to have national appeal. Individual MLB teams will never be able to get that kind of traction with a fanbase because of how the games are televised. The Braves tried that and so have the Cubs. But are either of them really "America's Team"? No. But ask that in football and the answer is instantly the Dallas Cowboys.
Football is national. Baseball is regional. And that's why the NFL is more popular than Major League Baseball.
-

Disagree. The cap (generally) promotes parity, which means more teams have a shot at being good from year to year. It helps maintain interest in more franchises. If the owners and players can't work out a new agreement that keeps the cap in place, the NFL will suffer for it.
-
There is a cap in baseball, and teams that go over that cap pay a luxury tax. A number of teams go over that mark. But there are still plenty of teams that are well under that ceiling.
The money that's paid as part of the luxury tax goes into the league. Now have we seen a move towards parity with this move? Absolutely not.
The reason there's a disparity between teams is because of their individually negotiated television contracts. Most large market MLB teams have a cable network that is dedicated to their games and reap the rewards of that revenue stream. The NFL's TV contract is negotiated collectively and that money is evenly distributed throughout the league. THAT is the source of the NFL's financial parity.
-
I honestly cannot recall a postseason where the officiating has been more of a question. Some of the calls last night during Game 4 were once again questionable. Calling Ryan Howard safe at the plate when he never even touched it? The scoop catch by Howard? And some of the makeup calls, too?
And I was definitely surprised to see the umps use replay to make the call on an Alex Rodriguez home run. It almost seems like the umps want to bring replay into baseball.
-
Well, congrats to the Yankees and boo to Howard for not showing up (13 Ks? ::)). Makes me wonder if it'd been a closer series if Howard hadn't crapped out like that.
And, I still think Utley might have been a better MVP over the 6 games, but the fact that he went 0-3 last night probably killed any chance he had. Matsui was a fine alternate I guess, but sort of strange since he never actually played in the field at all. At least when Molitor won primarily as a DH in the 90s (93?), he played a few innings in the series.
Time to move on to Free Agency, where I get to spend the winter wondering whether Mauer will re-up with the Twins or wait for next year and the fat Yankee payday that would be waiting for him to replace Posada... :-X

Go Pirates!

Bye bye Aki. :-\

Twins trade Gomez to the Brewers for Hardy. This seems to be a good trade for both teams. Hardy hopefully bounces back from an off year and solidifies short for the Twins. Now they need to do something about third. An upgrade at 2nd would be nice, also, but no way Gardy gives away his butt buddy Punto's starting job.
-
COngrats to the Baby Jesus for winning the MVP today. How does 7 years, $175 million sound?
