Title: Sideshow 12" Indy Figures
Post by: evenflow on July 19, 2007, 08:56 PM
I'd happily buy a sideshow indy, at least it would fit in with the Star Wars line.

Apparently the rumors are true!  At least according to the
LA Times... (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/comiccon/2007/07/sneak-peek-side.html)

I guess it's now really official:

Indiana Jones License Granted to Sideshow Collectibles

Sideshow Collectibles is proud to expand its relationship with Lucasfilm with the announcement of a new licensing deal to produce collectibles from the Indiana Jones film series. The adventure series began with the 1981 release Raiders of the Lost Ark, followed in 1984 by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and by Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989. After fourteen nominations and seven Academy Award wins for the film franchise, the adventure continues with a much-anticipated fourth installment yet to be titled, set for release on May 22, 2008. Sideshow's product line will be inclusive of all four Indiana Jones films and will include 12-inch Figures, Premium Format Figures, and Life-size Busts that will range in price from $69.99 to $599.99

You can read the whole press release here (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/behindtheshow/?page_id=3316).  :)

Nice to see that their 12-inch figures will premier at the "bargain" price of $69.99.  Ouch.

That price is high, but i will buy and Indy (probably some others depending on who they make)

Yeah, that entry price is kind of high but I'm willing to dish it out for a really awesome 1:6 Indy from ROTLA.  He needs to come with his bullwhip, of course, bag, pistol, idol, and the head piece for the Staff of Ra.  And they also need to make the Ark at some point but I bet that ends up as an accessory like the Dejarik table.

Really, I don't care to buy anything esle from an Indy line but it will be interesting to see what Sideshow comes up with.  I'm sure they'll do Henry Jones and the ladies at some point.  A nice Elsa would work and I'd love to see what they could do with John Rhys-Davies as Sallah.

Could the Sideshow exclusive version additional piece be the Ark?  I've been trying to figure out what they'd add as the exclusive piece.  The bullwhip, bag and pistol are probably givens.  I'm not so sure about the Idol, though I do feel it should be included in the basic version too.  The headpiece and/or the staff of Ra would make an interesting choice.  The headpiece alone I don't think is reasonably sized enough to make it the addition.

Regardless, I do hope the iconic ROTLA Indy is the first PF figure released.  I'll be ordering it for sure and that may be the last PF figure I buy.

The Ark seems too big to be an exclusive piece, but anything is possible I suppose.

My guess for a ROTLA Indy exclusive piece would be the Monkey...  ;)

Yeah, if the Ark is to scale, it would be might big and bigger than the droid Vader came with :-\

Monkey would be cool too.

I think with the 12 inch and the PF the ark could be the exlcusive. They will probably just charge more for it. It would be the first time the exclusive is more expensive.

Post by: efranks on July 25, 2007, 01:35 PM
I'd be surprised if the Ark came with the 1:6 Indiana figure.  My guess is it would be a set piece sold on it's own with two carry polls and some snakes, maybe a torch or two, removable top and "dust" inside.  Maybe a crate?  Throw in an extra snake for the exclusive.

My guess is the Indy figure would probably end up with either the idol or the head piece (maybe with pole) as the exclusive.  How awesome would the idol be if it was cast in pewter like the Dejarik chess pieces are?  I'm so excited over the prospect of a 1:6 Indy that I can't even tell you.

Back when Sideshow acquired the Star Wars license, I said Indy would be the only non-Star Wars figure I'd want.  Looks like that wish is about to become true.

Can't wait to see what he looks like...

I preordered the exclusive Indy, when I was on earlier today it showed sold out but I went back on a little later it showed available.

Post by: efranks on February 25, 2008, 06:19 PM
I pre-ordered the exclusive edition when it went up for sale the other day.  I'm happy with the idol being standard but the exclusive was kind of a head scratcher.  It's not terrible, though.

Besides, the rest of the figure is pretty awesome in my opinion.  Two heads?  Four sets of hands?  Two pistols and whips?  Get outta here!

I still have my fingers crossed for an Ark set piece.  Maybe that will come with the staff and head piece.  I'm really crossing my fingers for an Ark.

As I said in the Hasbro 12" thread, I like their Ark but I don't think I can bring myself to buy all those 12" figures to do the mail-in.  Especially when Hasbro isn't even using their best body design.  One of the Indy figures does have a nice outfit, though, and I'm half tempted to buy one just to finish piecing together a custom toy that I can pull out and toss around more so than the Sideshow piece.

People are probably tired of Belloq in his ceremonial robe.  However, this is just a bit to bland for me.  I might have gone for the ceremonial robe especially with an alternate just-about-ready-to-explode head.  Now if they ever crank out a Mola Ram with a flaming heart accesory I would definately buy that.

After they just announced Vader, stormtrooper, and the fleet trooper this even makes it easier of a pass for me.  I am glad to see that they are expanding the Indy line though.

I think I'd rather they sold the environment piece separately.  Now I'm thinking that in order to get an Ark from them you might have to buy an exclusive Sallah.  I think I'm going to be happy with the Hasbro 1:6 scale Ark instead.

Now I'm really glad the Idol came with the Indy figure, though.  If they had made us buy a whole set like this to get it I'd be kind of pissed.

Post by: efranks on December 2, 2008, 02:20 PM
My Sideshow Indy arrived last night.  At first glance I'm not that happy with it.  The body is somewhat loose and wants to bend at odd angles as you handle the figure.  It'll take a lot of work, and the stand, to achieve any type of decent looking poses.  The neck post is ridiculously loose and Indy is either staring at the ceiling or the floor and it's almost a balancing act to get him to look straight ahead.

The accessories are pretty decent, as is usual from Sideshow.  The belt clip for the whip has magnets which is a nice touch.  The out fit is pretty nice overall but fits pretty loose so it takes a lot of adjustment to get everything to sit right.

I really like the alternate head sculpt but I didn't realize the hat didn't fit.  Either I missed that in the description or it wasn't in there.  I'd rather have a removable hat that fits the head rather than just another accessory.

This makes two in a row I haven't been thrilled with.  The last was Lara Croft.  I'm cancelling my Snake Eyes pre-order and will now have nothing on order with Sideshow and don't foresee ordering anything from them again in the near future.  The only exception to that would be an AT-AT Driver.

I'm more happy with my $20 Hasbro Indy kitbash I did and I'm wishing that I'd skipped the Sideshow Lara in favor of the Tonner Doll version that's coming.

12" Indiana Jones City of Tanis Maproom Environment

I love these sets from Sideshow other than they're pricey.  Still, with all the detail and how they take a 12" figure from just basically a boy's doll to a whole large-scale scene from the movie, I think they're worth the price ultimately.

They've not shown love to the Indy license as much as I'd have liked, but this is really a cool addition.

This environment is awesome.  I'm really loving it.  I keep going back to Sideshow's site to look at the photos.  They photographed it with the Hot Toys Indy which I've been on the fence about ordering.  I love the look of it, and now with the environment piece?  That's nearly as killer as Yoda w/ his hut.

Still, going with the HT Indy and then this piece, you're looking at $450...maybe a little less if you go with Razor's or another site besides Sideshow.
