Watto's Junk Yard / The Expanse
« on: December 17, 2015, 08:35 AM »
I've kind of been sucked back into the Sci Fi channel and started watching the Expanse.  The first two episodes have aired, and the pilot is readily available on Youtube.  It looks pretty good so far.

The Sequel Trilogy / The new TIE Fighters
« on: September 24, 2015, 01:45 PM »
Ok, so this one has been bothering me for a while, because I really am not sure what to make of it.

The original TIE fighters were white/grey with black "solar" panels.  The new ones are black with light colored panels.  Now solar panels are black because they absorb all colors across the visual spectrum (plants absorb every color of the spectrum except green so they don't overheat).  Now a light colored solar panel would be completely inneficient, so why have a light colored solar panel on the new TIE fighter?

Are they not solar panels like we've thought for the past 38 years?

Is this just another JJ Abrams "Look I reversed it so it's new!" tactic like he and that moron Lindeloff did to Star Trek?

Does the technology work different in the SW universe?

Am I overthinking this?  (Quite possible!)

What do y'all think?

Other Collectibles / Anyone here in the 501st?
« on: April 30, 2015, 08:49 PM »
I saw on the front page a while ago that deal for Stormtrooper armor a while back and after researching the company and all I could about them on the FISD boards, I decided to buy a kit ($350 until May 4th I couldn't resist).

I have a friend in my squadron who is in the 501st and he's been trying to talk me into it.  Hopefully, this armor will be able to pass muster with his help.

I was curious if anyone else around here is a member.  I think they do a lot of cool stuff for kids, and my oldest loves Stormtroopers, so I thought I would give it a go.

A look back a the ground breaking game.

So much nostalgia in that article.  Hell, I remember playing that game into the wee hours of the morning.

Vintage Palitoy carded Boba Fett fetches $27,000 at auction!

I have to admit, I don't think I ever saw a carded Boba Fett as a kid...we all got ours through the mail-a-way!

Other Collectibles / Acrylic Display Cases for Master Replica Sabers
« on: January 24, 2015, 10:02 PM »
Does anyone know someone that makes custom display cases for MR Sabers?  I got one for my AOTC Obi-Wan saber years ago off of ebay, but it was damaged during our move.  I was hoping to replace it with one from Kodofett cases, but I've heard he wasn't very reliable (but did great work), and now his website isn't even working.

Does anyone have an idea where else I could look?

Other Collectibles / Star Wars NASCAR collectibles

Hey all.  I've been kind of bitten by the collecting bug again, but since Hasbro has had nothing to offer, I went back and started upgrading my NASCAR stuff.  Nothing too big, but I went and upgraded my 1999 1:24 scale Jeff Gordon Episode 1 car to the Elite version (found it on Ebay for $12.99 + modest shipping), and gave the original one to my son to play (at 2 1/2 he's into cars now).

I also started looking into the 1:64 scale (Like Sheldon half the size....double the fun!).  I've managed to pick up a John Andretti episode II car at that scale with an opening hood and trunk, with an Episode I Jeff Gordon version on the way (probably in today's mail) to compliment the 1:64 scale cars from the Cheerios promotion back in 2002.  These are nice because they already come in their own collector's case!  The tricky one to get is going to be the Jeff Gordon Episode III car in 1:64 scale.  I don't know why this one is so rare, other than he won the race when driving that car.

I've also purchased collector cases for all my 1:24 scale cars.  It's forced a bit of a re-arrangement of the cars, but they do look nice.  I'll update pictures soon.

Who's watching what?

I'll watch the swim events when I can as well as track & field.  Hard to do without spoilers because NBC's coverage is horrendous!

Does anyone remember these gems?  Here's a classic commercial!

Me and my best friend had a bunch of these sets when we were kids.  I remember taking my Northwoods Trailblazer set and the wilderness explorer set (A pontoon boat, Cessna plane and 6-wheel ATV...the boat connected to the plane to make a sea plane!) and we would play in the stream behind his house!  Great times!
