Watto's Junk Yard / Re: What do you do (job, student)?
« on: August 28, 2006, 03:59 PM »
I work on the Xbox, where I like to think I'm helping to make small children fat and lazy every day. It's my little contribution to society, which I've been trying to keep up since I was a pizza delivery guy many years ago.  As for the video game industry, it's different than several IT companies I've worked for in the past, but it's still actual work.  When I'm bragging, I like to tell people that I got tired of not being paid to play games for a living so I remedied that by moving to a job where I can.  In reality, most of my work still takes place on computers. ;D

In the Tamidala spirit, I suppose I'm also a chauffer, lawn boy, Kozmo.com delivery guy, handyman and dispenser of hugs and kisses for my bride.  ;D

I ordered mine from Sideshow, same as my ED-209.

How much was yours?   I heard they were cheaper elsewhere, but sometimes I guess a trustworthy merchant is worth it.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Video Games That Suck?
« on: August 28, 2006, 01:36 PM »
I think I would have rather had a black DS lite than my white one, but I'm not going to trade it in.

Went to PAX this weekend and the DS army was just incredible.  Just about everyone had them.  You could start up your DS and find dozens of networked games to play no matter where you were standing.

Pretty cool stuff.

Oh, yeah...this thread is supposed to be about Games that suck.  I'm nominating Me & My Katamari for the PSP.  I bought that thing thinking Katamari portability would be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but the controls suck so badly it's almost unplayable.  It makes Mario 64 onto the DS look like a great port by comparision (and that one is frustrating as hell too).

So what do you think?  Are there any good modern Rock bands?  Or is Rock dead?

There's plenty of great music out there.  Especially compared to Use your Illusion (which is one of the more subpar GnR CDs in my opinion).

Audioslave is great, there are a couple of new Buck Cherry songs I enjoy. System of a Down has some excellent music.  Green Day is still alive and kicking.
I hesitate to name bands like Yellowcard as "up and comers" but I do enjoy a couple of their songs.

Oooh. There's a tough one to debate.

Does personal life count as work?  I think not (probably why you put it in quotes) but if not, the week I got married was probably the most hours I ever worked.  I got very little sleep at all and with the hundreds of things I had to take care of leading up to the big day, it sure felt like I was working.  ;D

I'm going to respond to your post from the Rebelscum thread over here, because the conversation that will ensue probably belongs in this thread:

As for my lunch with Tommy (uscwannabe), it did indeed happen last week.  We got together and shot the **** for about 3 hours, and chatted about a number of different topics, including the Fan Club Presidency, of course.  From what Tommy told me, it doesn't sound like he broke any of the rules for the contest, but that perhaps the rules were "ammended" after the contest ended, or the fine print was altered, to bring about his DQ on a technicality.  Whether someone lobbied for that to happen, or the Fan Club or LFL higher-ups preferred Dustin due to the relationship they already had with him/Phillip/RS/TFn/Official Pix, I can't say for sure.  Still totally shady, and since there's now ongoing litigation into the matter, the details unfortunately can't be discussed yet.

But at least the Fan Club was courteous enough to ask Tommy for his address so they could send him the awesome consolation T-shirt prize...

So there's litigation surrounding it? Wow.  I can't wait to hear more about this.   Did he actually tell you what the reason for his DQ was, and if so....does it sound like a bogus reason?

I remember the daily milk break in school.  I wonder if they still do that?  Probably some lactose intolerant kid had a bad reaction, a lawsuit ensued and now milk is outlawed in schools.  Anyway...

According to Super Size Me, milk is still around, but they're trying now to outlaw Soda in school, which wasn't around when I was a kid.  Sweetest drink we could buy on school grounds was chocolate milk.

I know I've worked a couple of 100+ hour weeks, both containing 48 (or more) hour "days" where I was working without sleep.  This is back when I used to do tech work for events and I had to babysit the setup. That's a 7 day week though, not a 5 day....and those circumstances were rare.

Longest stretch I ever worked was 56 hours, over which I got about an hour and a half of sleep.  I started Weds morning at around 9am or so and didn't finish until Friday afternoon.

Prior to that job, the most I probably ever worked and was paid for as an hourly employee was maybe 80 or 90 hour weeks, again...all 7 days.

There was barely even a USENET when I was in second grade.

There was Usenet when you were in second grade?  Damn.

I think that was Apple IIE territory for me.

Now we just need someone older to come along and tell us that they didn't even have PCs.  ;D

It's clear though that people should be a bit more surprised when I suspend someone who pisses me off, because if I did it each time it happened, well- you'd be long gone.

I dont' know if I'm supposed to be flattered or offended by that.  :-\

How exactly will Brent telling your receptionist that he will "rip her teeth out if she does it again" get his Yoda back?  Are you suggesting she's involved somehow?

Personally, I'm surprised he still works anywhere where he threatened to rip a receptionist's teeth out. At most jobs, those are firin' words.

Just for the record, one should never tell a fellow member (let alone a staff member) to STFU no matter how pissed you are.

I don't know. Chris gave the guy the "Cluepon", which basically said "no one gives a **** what you think and you have your head up your ass".

I thought his response was in kind with the insult, so I was surprised when he was suspended for simply replying in the same manner in which he was insulted.
Even so, it doesn't suprise me that Chris suspended someone that pissed him off.  Is it a little bit of an abuse of power to insult someone and then ban them when they respond to your insult?

Maybe, but it's his site, so it's his right.

I've never had a bad deal at JD.  Not even a bad partial deal.

I would get a paypal account if I were you, it's the "way of the future".
