The Mandalorian & Grogu - May 22, 2026

This seems to be different from Filoni's Mandoverse movie.  This one is to be directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni.

The Mandalorian & Grogu will go into production in 2024.

Nice! Hopefully, this production has better luck than the last few planned movies. Considering this is directed Favreau, features Mando and Grogo, & production is starting this year, signs are looking good.

Hopefully, it ends up being better than S3 of Mando, too. As of now, I'm cautiously optimistic and excited. It'll be fun to hear more about this. It's been a long drought for SW in theaters, and longer still since a good SW movie was in theaters.

Sounds like lots of teaser footage is out there now... maybe a trailer tomorrow as Pedro and Sigourney are going on GMA tomorrow.

I'll be interested to see how Mando manages to get another Razor Crest style ship.  I see its got a slightly different paint job.  I think I know what the next HasLab offering is going to be  :P

It’s a comedy!  :D

Is Embo still in this movie or was that just a rumor?

There's some cool stuff in the trailer.

Zeb fighting, Anzellans even an Amanaman type alien.

I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I feel like I saw a "real-life" version of one of the djarrik beasts in there, too. I'm excited for it. Easter eggs aside, I didn't think the trailer was great, but I'm still hopeful for the actual movie.

Yeah, definitely a Mantellian Savrip in there.  Nice little easter egg.

I liked the trailer but agree it just felt like an ad for the next season of the show and not an "event movie".  I am not expecting "Andor" level quality here, my bar is set at "I hope I have fun watching this in the theater and get some new toys from it".

Totally agree.

Seasons 1-3 have been really uneven without a very good underlying story arc.  I think Season 1 was the best and its been really choppy since then (with some downright crap mixed in), so I've got pretty low expectations for this movie.  I'm hoping for "fun".

Has anyone read why they're doing a movie vs more streaming episodes?  Is Disney just trying to do as little as possible for their streaming content while still cashing all the checks and trying to move more to the theater for more revenue upside?  It seems really unnatural to take a so-so series and turn the next installment in to a feature film.

It is going to be a movie more or less because Disney realized they were not going to be able to make money from adding streaming content, but a movie might, so the scripts for Season 4 were cannibalized into a movie instead. It's about trying to make money with the IP.

I have always felt the show was aiming for after-school cartoon quality like GIJoe or Transformers, so I am already anticipating the movie to be like those franchises' 80's movie efforts. Not expecting much.
