I already expressed the exact same concern as Todd here when I first heard about this new Animated line, so hopefully you're right Adam, and Target indeed does keep this line completely seperate from the Saga stuff. That would certainly help the looming situation of 3 seperate Star Wars action figure lines being sold concurrently at retail.
The current CW lineup is already
severely eating away at the Saga availability in my area, in almost every store. A number of stores out here aren't even carrying Saga anymore - just Clone Wars. So that's bad enough as it is. Hopefully this new line is looked at (and coded) by Target as a completely different entity altogether, unlike our current CW lineup which is technically selling under the Saga brand label.
Hopefully the quantities for these animated figures are scaled back just a bit from the current CW line, since it's pegwarming by the hundreds everywhere now. If the quantities, and case assortments are fairly reasonable, then I think this line will do OK, assuming they don't wait too long to get it to the market, so the cartoon is still around to support it's sales. Looks like that won't be a problem though, since they're already up on eBay.
I don't think it's unreasonable to speculate that this animated line might take some otherwise available pegs away from the Saga line though - even if they are coded seperately. Can't a toy department manager just say "
well, we're going to put out about 6 pegs worth of this new animated line of SW figures, but I don't want to overdue Star Wars altogether, so perhaps I'll reduce the Saga pegs by about 4 to compensate for the new stuff a little"...? That sounds possible to me. Hopefully not probable, but definitely possible...
We shall see...
