Newsarama's list of "Top Ten Geek Movies of the 2000s".  Sort of disappointing to see ROTS left off of the list, although not surprising with it being "cool" to diss Star Wars a lot these days.  I've mentioned it before though, it seems like even though Revenge of the Sith was pretty well received (and made tons of money) it gets lumped in with the other prequels as being "disappointing".  Anyways, the list is available at the linky, and lots of good movies are included.

That list is pretty lame IMO.  Limiting the list to just ten is pretty tough, but I'd counter with these bad boys:

Fanboys
Star Trek
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Zombieland
Watchmen
The Dark Knight
Avatar (I've not seen it, but I'm going on faith here)
Gladiator
28 Days Later
Iron Man

I could easily see ROTS, District 9, X-Men, Transformers (I liked the first one), or Wall-E (I liked this movie, but it's more kiddie than geeky) making the list too - hard to trim to just ten.

Happy Birthday Old Timer!  Hope that you get everything you want this year between Santa and your B-day (everything except a Purple Super Bowl that is)!

Happy Birthday to Smartypants too!

Received my Luke/Leia Speederbike Set and 2008 Medicom Collector's Boxed Set.  That wraps up all the Medicom Boxed Sets for me.  I wasn't sure I'd ever track all of those sets down.

Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!  Those are some nice acquisitions.  Did you land them off Ebay?

I received my shipping notice from HLJ, on the way.  8)

Gotta love the X-Mas mail rush, this set finally arrived from HLJ. Pretty sweet Kuby's.  8)

I'd love it, if it ever happened around here.  I'm waiting on my R2/3PO and three other packages but no mail either yesterday or today and I'm doubting our mail carrier is going to work on New Year's Eve either.  ::)

Is your mailman on strike or is that just the normal Canadian timetable for mail right now?

Whew, a lotta people are getting their hands on this wave already some way or another!

I feel left out...  >:(

No worries - still a lot of us that haven't seen this wave at all.  I thought it wasn't due at retail until Feb/March, so you're definitely not behind.

I checked out Planet 51 with the kids today.  The beginning was a little scary for my daughter, but otherwise they really liked it.  Some pretty funny Star Wars references in there as well.  We also caught UP this last week - very fun movie for both us and the kids.

John, just wait until you see Kilowog.  Chemo is one of my favorite BAF (him and the Solomon Grundy I got from you), but I put Kilowog together about a week ago, and I think he's moved into my top spot.  He's not as tall as Chemo, but man, he's awesome.

Did you pick these up locally Drew?  I just saw this wave (as well as some superheroes without a BAF part - Superman, Batman, Flash) at TRU.  I thought Kilowog would be neat to own and could have tolerated a couple of the figures, but couldn't deal with the $100 to put him together

Same here.  Kilowog is the only figure I really want from that wave, but I don't $100 want him.

Well, I really didn't want to buy any additional Kubies for a while, but could not pass this up.  Carded Tatooine Luke for $16...are you kidding me?  Merry Christmas!

Blondie Luke showed up in the mail today.  Pretty similar to the EB counterpart, but having the Blonde and Brown hair variations is a nice nod back to the vintage line.

I may pass on the first two repacks, but I'd probably lay money down for the new Anakin Skiff and the Cody.  Not overly enthused about them though.  And per Jay's comments, what is with all the Cody love lately?

Its cool to have the variations, but you're not missing much if you have the prior versions of these two in my opinion.

Except for the 3rd leg on R2 of course.

You mean the lack of a 3rd leg, right?  I like the EB 3-leg version better than 2-leg, but you're right - that is a noticable difference.  Damnit Jay, you're going to get me to open this 2pk aren't you?   >:(

Rebel Command Center Adventure Set

Wow, that's kind of cool.  I've never even heard of that before.

Thanks for confirming Brian - couldn't remember if that was the right subline or not in my old age.  I just picked up Bucky loose for $10 from someone last week.   ::)  I didn't really want the Giant Skrull anyway, though I'm sure I could have found some use for him at $3 more.  I do want the Iron Man and Goliath though, so I'll have to check that out at my local WM.  Considering Icons 12" are $20, the $13 is a huge deal!

Other Toy Lines / Re: Avatar toys by Mattel
« on: December 29, 2009, 11:31 AM »
I have yet to see it, but everyone I talk to that has says it's simply amazing, both special effects and the story.  Even my wife's friends (definitely not into Sci-Fi) have given it great reviews.

The thing is, I only know of adults that have seen it and liked it, so not sure what kind of splash it's making with the kiddies.  A lot of people liked Titanic, but I don't think there was much adult demand for Titanic toys.   ;)

I don't know how the Vikings got so bad so fast. And I don't want to hear it's Favre in December.

And whether AP cost us the game or not, it was fitting his fumble set up the game winning touchdown.

I hope the Patriots showing this weekend was a sign of things to come but I have a feeling my Vikings Patriots Super Bowl hope isn't just now my Vikings Patriots one and done playoffs.

It's Favre in December.   ;D  I think it's actually just an inept Chili, but Favre in December is a good excuse.  He's 40, he does zero training camp work, and he doesn't even stretch before games.  I don't know about Brett, but I'm sure I'd be getting a little tired 4 months in.

As for your Patriots, the prophecy may yet be true...

Nah, we'll see a remake of the '96 Super Bowl.  Packers 31 - Patriots 28.
