Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Super Hero/Comic Book Movies
« on: July 23, 2004, 02:54 PM »
Maybe not exactly a Super Hero/Comic Book movie, but I thought I'd post it here anyways.  It sounds like the Transformers movie is a definite go, with Steven Spielberg on board to Executive Produce!

Gentle Giant / Re: Bust Ups!

I'm getting awfully tempted by these as well, and it sounds like they're "wee" so they wouldn't take up a whole heck of a lot of room to display either (which is a major + with me).  I guess it depends how difficult they are going to be to collect...where they will be available, etc.  I always wanted to get into GG's mini-bust line, but can't really afford it, so this might be a nice alternative.  I'm going to have to go check out some of the pics from the show and see what they all look like.

Middle Earth / Re: LOTR Trilogy Figures
« on: July 23, 2004, 02:00 PM »
Yeah, it has been quite slow around here for awhile too Brent.  I saw the KOTD/Merry/Morgul Lord come and go a few times, but the pegs have been somewhat bare other than that.  The two Wal-Marts in town have had zero figs for about a month now (one doesn't even have a space for LOTR, for some strange reason).  Target usually have some figures, mostly consisting of King Aragorn, Eomer, 8" Treebeard, and the occasional Ringwraith.  TRU is stocked FULL of Gollums, in the old packaging, and the occasional trilogy Frodo repack.  Not much going on in that area of the action figure aisle lately though, which is strange, because I agree with you Brent...those things sell, and sell quickly around here.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases
« on: July 23, 2004, 01:47 PM »
The TRU here in town received the VOTC shipment, which I came across yesterday.  I'm still working on the Mrs. to get two sets of all of these, but for now I settled on picking up another Han.  I finally have my first VOTC figure opened up now  :P.  Getting a closer inspection, this is really one amazing figure.

Is it just me or is TB already heading into Hasbro territory?  Bilbo transfixed?  That had less screen time than B'Omarr Monk.  Interesting and important point in the movie, but yikes.

I kind of felt the same way when I saw that Brent, seems like they are running out of ideas.  Then again, I know there are some people that really like each and every version of each and every character, and that's cool too.  They do all look very well done, I'll say that.  I haven't bought much in this line for a little while either, and probably won't get a whole lot more.  Waiting out for the SP Aragorn and Frodo, then I'll probably try to pick up a Sam and the Merry in Armor and be done with it....I think. :)

A few new LOTR figures, pictures courtesy Action-Figure.com.  Figures included are Bilbo (transfixed), "ring possessed" Galadriel, and a 2-up of the Pellenor Fields Orc (i don't remember his name, sorry).  They look nice, but I guess nothing that I'm overly interested in.  Then again, I'm not as big collecting this line as many others either ;)

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Hasbro's SDCC Q&A Session
« on: July 23, 2004, 01:15 PM »
I've been looking forward to this Q and A session, and hope that we do get some news out of it.  When it was first mentioned on StarWars.com, they said "and there might be a surprise or two".  I hope that actually means something.  I would like to hear if they have any future plans for VOTC, or VOTC style figures.  I'd also like to hear what the post-OTC plans are, what we can expect for late 2004 and the first part of 2005.  I just hope we get some tidbits here and there, and not just "we've looked at this, it is a possibility" or "no comment" type of answers.  Its toys guys, not national security, just let us know  ;).  Anyways, I hope we see a full report somewhere on the net here in a couple of hours.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: OTC Carry Cases?

I will probably pick at least one of these up as well.  I always wanted one as a kid, but never had one (probably one of the few, I know).  I had the Falcon and the Chewie Bandolier that I used to haul my figures/weapons around.  I know I often read/hear that the Vader case was a dime a dozen in the vintage days, and it didn't even hold the figures all that well, but for some reason I just thought it was cool.  Anyways, I'll probably try to pick the Vader one up for sure, maybe both, we'll see.

I was disappointed in the articulation on this figure as well.  I would have been happy with just articulated knees added in though.  I will admit, looking through some of the coverage pictures, the sculpt looks very, very good.  Too bad it wasn't a little better articulated though.

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends
« on: July 23, 2004, 09:13 AM »
It looks like Action-Figure.com has some more pics up of Doctor Strange.  It also mentions that the rest of series 9 won't be announced until Toy Fair of 2005.  He was also told (by Jesse Falcon) that the line will see a "revamp" at that time as well.  I wonder what that means.  Anyways, here's the article and PICS

Edit:  A few more pictures available here, of series 7 and 8.  You can see the Mohawk Storm variant, as well as what looks like modified tentacles for Doc Ock.  That figure looks great.  Too bad these are so far off, Series 6 hasn't even been showing up yet :).  Here's the Other Pics

The VOTC line continues to impress, but as some of you have mentioned, some of the figures (like 3PO and R2), don't exactly make me go "wow, I can't believe it" the way the initial ones did when we first saw them.  However, every single one of this whole line seems to be sculpted very, very well.  I'm kind of in the boat with Jesse, when he said that if Hasbro would only do these figures, in this style (packaging and all), for the main characters, etc....I'd probably be down with paying $10 a piece as well...as long as we could still get them, and they were somewhat limited so I wouldn't have to sell a kidney or something :).

Looking at these pictures, aside from articulation on 3PO, and the gadgets on R2...do you think they can make these characters any better?  When we first heard of/saw this line, it was kind of the feeling of "finally, the end all be all versions of these characters".  Seeing the Han, and the Stormtrooper...I think they have done it.  They look to be pretty much perfect.  Chewie looks good as well, and to be honest...I don't know what else they can really do with Chewie to improve it, aside from the removable bandolier.  I think they have gotten the sculpt down pretty well between the Cloud City version and this VOTC one.  The articulation looks to be pretty good on this one as well.  I guess I'm wondering, do you think that these can still be improved on?  Aside from articulation on 3PO, and maybe an "ultimate gadget-tastic" R2, that is.  Overall, I'm quite happy with this line...and this morning I saw that they have shown up at the TRU in town here.  They had 3x Han, 3x Obi, and 2x Leia.  All of them where there, don't know when they got put out.  I picked up an extra Han for now, I'd like to have 2 of each, but my wife doesn't agree.  I got away with the Han for now.  Plus, I'd kick myself if I bought 2 of all of these, to see them released for $5 later on :o  Seeing the pics of them all on the coverage though, makes me wish there was another wave (or more) coming.  Come on, how about a POTF wave? :P
