Do my eyes decieve me or is this a NEW Vader's TIE? :o
I don't remember Vader's TIE having "ejecting wings" before. In that picture, it definitely looks like the cockpit attaches to the wings differently than the older version. Hmmm...
edit:
Here's a picture of the old wings for reference...

Oh, yeah - definitely new wings! ;D
-
It looks significantly redone. Certainly, the ejecting wings have never been a feature on the Vader TIE that's been on the market since the POTF2 era. The rear end of the fuselage doesn't look as long as the POTF2 era Vader TIE, but that could be due to the perspective from which this shot was taken. If Hasbro holds true to form, they may have redone the cockpit hatch. Plus the paintscheme seems much more like that of the TRU exclusive TSC TIE Fighter with properly scaled wings.
-
Good eyes (http://www.yakface.com/) Jeff!
;)
The mold for the fuselage/cockpit has several changes as well. Note: Center Guns, the greeblies and viewport.

Yeah, the more I looked at, the more subtle difference I thought I saw...
I started to think maybe it was just me hoping, but maybe just maybe it is a total revamp! :o
I, for one, will welcome this revamped TIE x1 with open arms. :)
-
I'm pumped... I have a couple of the POTF2 I'm going to be repainting now as basic X1's and gladly picking up Vader's retooled ride. Finally the right color too... I think the color and a damaged solar panel was a question we asked here at JD, and it appears the color at least has been addressed.
Now I wonder if we'll ever get an accurately damaged left solar panel? :)
-
Now this I like. I never really liked the POTF2 one, it seemed too big and clunky IMO. This new one looks to be smaller and accurately colored. I'll have to pick one up.
-
This looks pretty neat. I may pick this up in favor of the Sith Infiltrator.
-
It's cool I guess...
I might get it to hang from my ceiling in front of a couple of the new TIE Fighters that are shelfwarming in my area.
-
I'm now glad I passed on the TSC Tie Advanceds. I'll pick one up.
-
Wow, there are considerable differences! Just when you think Hasbro is going to pull another white TIE fiasco, we (hopefully) get a completely new sculpt Vader's TIE! I'm in for one to replace my POTF2 version.
-
Niiiiiiice! I'm gonna have to pass, though. But not from any fault of the toy itself, which looks super bitchin'.
-
Here's a picture of an accurate scale model of Vader's TIE if anyone wants to do some comparison eyeballing of the two...

I'm pretty excited for any improvements to scale/accuracy. Vader's TIE wasn't really off on the scale issue (by much) in the first place, so I'm curious to see if this is shrunk down much in length at all or if the base is mostly the same just modified from the POTF2 sculpt.
Not often Hasbro resculpts something like a ship only to resculpt it again... As a matter of fact, I don't think that's ever happened to the best of my knowledge.
-
This certainly makes me regret having bought the OTC version at Toys R Us a few years ago. The POTF2 version would have been sufficient until this came out.
-
At least they offered something different. Makes the purchase less painful.
-
One of the few newer vehicles that I'm actually buying. The TIE with new large wings was great, and this Vader's TIE is great too. This vehicles should not even be mentioned in the same breath with the Sith Infiltrator, because Maul's ship is only the correct scaled for a 1" action figure.
-
1. New pictures of the 30th Anniversary Collection Darth Vader's TIE Advanced x1 Fighter recently surfaced. It appears that the ship is an all-new sculpt. Does it utilize anything from the POTF2 sculpt at all or is it totally new?
**It is the same vehicle from last year carried forward in a new package. It is not a newly tooled vehicle.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Well, it looks like larger wings to me, by a lot. What gives?
Looking at page 1 of this thread, we all saw significant differences.
-
I think someone in Hasbro's art dept used a model (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=12758.msg298051#msg298051) of the Vader TIE for the image on the box, with some obvious Photoshop manipulation. Strange that Hasbro would resort to showing another company's product like that to sell their own. I smell lawsuit... :P
It still doesn't explain the "ejecting wing panels" callout on the box.
-
Well, something stinks. That's for sure.
And now this has come full circle from an exciting purchase, to a definite PASS.
-
Eh... I'll still get it, as I was either going to wait for the new one or just buy the '06 one. Hopefully it'll have the vintage white paintjob. anyone know when it's being released?
-
If it's new, proper light grey deco, I'll still nab one... I was just curious to see what possible "new" route they were going with a sculpt. Guess not.
-
Ill get it only if its light grey.
-
Met too- the paintjob had better be stellar though. Man, I was really looking forward to a slightly smaller and more accurate sculpt...
-
I expected at least for the wing attachment areas to be new. I guess we need to ask a follow up question then: If the Vader TIE is the same as the others, then what's up with the box?

Thanks Jay, that covers that it seems...
The ejection mechanism for the panels COULD simply be worked into them. The attachment method they use now I think is modular and just screwed together, so it was perhaps designed with an ejection feature in mind but that got scrapped for the "clamps" that are screwed in the side. Just theorizing... Or the box picture could just be inaccurate/early and the ship will be nothing more than a (hopefully) grey repaint.
-
Easy pass for me... they'd really have to do a totally new sculpt in order for me to be interested.
The only TIEs to me that really are interesting are the regular large wing TIE Fighters. Not sure if I'll pick up the upcoming Interceptor or not.
:P

It's a mistake (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1178932469,67754,). ::)
I am very disappointed with this one... The 30AC package both shows and desribes a ship that you're not even getting inside the box.
Extremely lame. >:(
-
Well that's a letdown. But I have to wonder if it might have been some kind of a trial balloon to see if the interest was there in the collecting community.

Retail just lost a sale. :P
-
I kinda see both sides to this. Yes, I'm disappointed that it's not a new sculpt with ejecting wing panels, but also we are able to see early mock-ups that were never intended to leak out on the net and so we get our hopes up. There was a time not long ago that a consumer wouldn't be able to see product until it was actually in stores. To get angry about an advance pic that Hasbro never confirmed sort of makes me understand why they try so hard not to give advance info about an upcoming toy. There are a few people in this thread who say they're not going to get it, and it sounds more like anger at being "deceived" than just disappointment :P
-
I can't speak for everyone, but for me it's simply the lack of proper decoration that means I won't buy it. I don't feel cheated, I just know they can give a better toy and aren't going to do so.
I will say, they should rethink the "art" style packaging images instead of the actual toy... It is deceptive at best, and at worst it's simply false advertising that you'll get "this great new toy!" when you really are rebuying something.
A new sculpt would've been interesting. S cale of Vader's TIE Is debateable though so I wasn't ever really unhappy with it, but I see where people are coming from with that completely. They should picture the toy, not what they chop together, especially when the color isn't even the same.
-
This is disappointing. I had hoped for the "new" ship that we saw in the packaging photos, or at least - like Jesse mentioned - new coloring. If its the same as past releases, count me out too. I do like the idea of them getting a few more OT ships into this "starfighter" assortment at mass retail. It seems like the majority of that line is prequel ships (ROTS in particular - and Jedi starfighters in particular). If they can continue to fit some OT ships into that $20 pricepoint, it would be nice.
-
Spotted this yesterday, there was only 1 on the shelf and the rest of the fighters were Jedi's, no V-wings.
-
I've seen this at both Target and TRU over the weekend, and it looks as though it's shipping 1 per case (along with the Yellow Anakin JSF). Not only that, it looks like Hasbro fixed everything wrong with the box, as the photo is seemingly the POTF2/Saga 2006 version, plus the "INSERT ACTION FEATURE HERE" label now only mentions the extending cannons and not the (non) ejecting wings.
-
These don't seem to be flying off the shelves, the only one I've seen so far sat on the shelf for days before someone picked it up.
-
I've seen three so far and every single one comes in a smashed box. Would have been nice if Hasbro would have actually made those "changes" to this vehicle as I would have gladly picked up another, but oh well..
-
Yeah, the one I've seen was banged up too.
