Title: Who's got the best burger?
Post by: Avenging Knight on June 1, 2005, 01:33 AM
Here's a worthless but intersting thread. Who do you think makes the best hamburger?
I'm a west coast guy so I have to put my money on In-N-Out.

I guess if you're going just by large chain fast-food places, I'd put my money on Burger King. Their "flame broiled" process gives their burgers a flavor the other big chains don't have. Being in Chicagoland, we have the 4 largest chains around, I'd rank them as...

1.) Burger King
2.) McDonalds
3.) Wendy's
4.) White Castle

There is this place called Red Robin that is way out in the burbs that has a killer burger, way better than the 4 I listed. Culver's also has a really good burger, but I know of only one in the entire region.

As a West Coast born and raised guy, In-n-Out gets my vote too. First place I hit for a meal everytime I go back home. Nothing like a Double-Double with spread and tomatos only! Throw in a chocolate shake and I'm set  ;D

I love my Double Double with spread, tomato along with grilled and raw onion. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.  :P

Of the fast-food chains, my favorite is Wendy's, with Burger King 2nd. I also like White Castle, but they're a different thing, almost like their own category altogether.

A Red Robin JUST opened here Jason, I gotta try that now.

Hmmm, fast food's really piss poor around here...  Steak & Shake's just made an appearance in the last 5 years, and they're still sparse (one opening near me though).  I'd say, and this isn't really fast, but Fudruckers was probably the best burger I've had short of making one myself.

Places like McDonald's and stuff just don't do it for me unless I'm really desperate.

I like Steak & Shake food though, if that's a burger...  Not really I guess, but in a way.

I will say, A&W doesn't make a bad burger...  Hmmm, now I'm hungry.

JJ: yeah definitely try them, they have a nice juicy burger, good stuff there.

I'm not a big fan of Steak & Shake, because I've never had a good experience at all going there. They have the most retarded and lazy employees there, just ****** imbeciles. The food isn't too bad, but I avoid the place like it was the plague.

Valin: Yeah White Castle sliders are really a different category of burger, great to have every once in a while, but just not something that screams out "great burger!"

JJKS: I can't get enough of your avatar, it's sorta appropiate for this thread. :) Who is the kid?

In-N-Out for me also in the fast food category.  Fatburger in second.

As for restaurants I have to go with Islands.  I love their Hawaiian burger.  It comes with pineapple, teriyaki sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, swiss & mayo.

Only 11:30 here, might have to make an In-N-Out run.   ;D

Well up here it would have to be Pete's Drive-in in Calgary. We always stop there when we head out to the mountains. The burgers are great and there fries are very large portions plus they have the bestest milkshakes around.  8)

I heard they had an E-Coli breakout early in the year so hopefully everything is back up to par.   :-\

In no particular order.

1. Astro Burger
2. Fat Burger
3. In & Out
4. Red Robin
5. Krystal/White Castle

Last two times I went to California, I ate In-n-Out 3 of the 4 meals I was there, they are the best and I am still shocked they haven't expanded operations beyond the west coast :-[

When I move out the Phoenix in a couple days I will have to eat at one of those In an Out places.  Back here in the Midwest I really like Portillo's.  But I think they are just in the Chicago area?

If we are going with the main chains like Burger King, Mac's, Wendy's, etc.  I would probably go with Burger King as well.  After all they are burger kings.  So, it all makes sense.

Johnny Rockets.

I get the #12 with pepper jack cheese, and an orange soda and rings, and it's to friggin' die for!

If were talking fast food...I don't know anymore. I havent tasted the fruit of McDonalds in 4 months now, or so it seems...

Wendys has a good burger...

Hmmm...

I used to love Harvey's (not Hardee's :P), but I haven't eaten them since grade 3 when i was still in Toronto, so I don't know if they're any good anymore.
Over in New Jersey, we don't have a lot of really good burger joints.   My favorite would be Fudrucker's  :D ... delish
I really want to eat at In-and-Out Burger, mostly because of the Big Lebowski, but also because everybody that I know that has eaten there says that they have the best burgers ever.   :'(

This makes me think how much I used to love Hardee's Burgers but the Hardee's in Pittsburgh are all gone save for one that USED to be in a rough part of town near where a girl I dated used to live...  They rocked.  Those and Rax, but that was a roast beef/deli meats type place.

I swear, these places like White Castle and In & Out (Heh) are just foreign to me.  Even when I used to travel a bit I didn't recall seeing these places.

I like Steak & Shake in Pittsburgh, but there's literally only 2 of them here right now, and none within 45 minutes of my house.  They're like an oddity here that people will line up and wait a very long time to eat there.  It's kinda funny.  One's opening at the new mall which will put it about 25 minutes from me (5 minutes from my gf's house) so that's good...  Makes it worthwhile to go to.

In-n-Out is basically a classier McDonald's, better meat, fresh veggies, made from scratch.  Not super processed dreck they slop on a bun at McD's

There are tons of Red Robins  near me I think I have 5 within a 6 mile radius of my house. They are definitely good but there's a place called Cheesy Jane's (they only have them here in Denver and in San Antonio) that beat it's it. They are so juicy and

My non-fast food burger ranking would be:

1. Fudruckers (I think they also only have them here in Denver and in San Antonio) They make amazing burgers and they have a whole big place to top them yourself, and the buns are amazing too.
1. Cheesy Jane's They have a 1lb burger, if you eat it all you get your picture on the wall, they taste so good.
2. Chili's
4. Red Robin
5. Gunther Tooty's (a local 50's diner)

And my favorite fast food place:

1. (tie) Sonic and Carl's Jr. (it is the same as Hardee's and Star burger)
2. In and Out (I've only been there once cause I'm not on the west coast)
3. Wendy's (gotta love the 99 cent Jr. Bacon Cheesseburgers)
4. Burger King (I can't say I'm a fan)
1,000,000th. McDonalds ( I get sick whenever I eat ther I think it has been at lest a year now since I've eaten there. Not to mention the burger's taste like crap anyways.)

Jesse, I'm with you on the White Castle and In and Out burger joints. Foreign to me. I just tried White Castle in Indy for the first time. Then I drove down the road and totaled the car. ::) I don't know if the two are connected somehow, but whatever.

I like how their burgers don't have cheese, and way too much onion. >:(

Fudruckers is down here to, and I'm pretty sure it's international as well.

Non Fast-Food:
1. Fudruckers...just wow
2. Hopps
3. Stax Omega
4. California Dreaming

Fast Food:
1. DAIRY QUEEN GRILL...words cannot describe how freaking amazing that place is. The burgers are absoultley wonderful! Toasted and Buttered buns to boot!
2. Burger King
3. Hardees
4. Sonic
5. Rush's (I think its only in Columbia, SC)
6. McDonalds

Yeah Portillo's is only in Chicagoland. But there is like 20+ of them throughout the area, one just opened up a couple miles from my house over the winter. Good food, though I haven't had a burger there yet.

We have a couple of local places that are really good.

1. WW Cousins (Best burgers in Louisville)
2. Jenny's Diner (Home of the 3lb burger & Frickle Pickles)
3. Kaelin's

Fast Food chains
1. Wendy's
2. Sonic
3. Burger King

I also like the Chipotle Blue Cheese Bacon Burger at Chilis.   ;D

I see Sonic mentioned, and Sonic pisses me off.

They advertise RELENTLESSLY on my TV...  Their food looks good, and different, and there isn't a SINGLE Sonic in the Pittsburgh area.

IHOP does the same thing...  Not a single one in the area, and they advertise like mad.  That's teasing.

Sonic does the same thing here in Chicago, it's such a pain in the ass. Hardee's used to do it too, but they apparently figured that it was pointless to advertise in an area where they don't actually have locations.

The adds are really annoying, I'll definitely admit that. >:( Luckily I have 3 IHOPs within 4 miles around in Denver and there's one Sonic kinda close, and up at School I have a Sonic right across the street from my appartment and an IHOP close by. God I love IHOP. :)

You know what.  Those thickburgers from Hardee's are pretty damn good.  I have only had them twice before because another one would probably kill me on the spot. Although one time I ate one was after a night some light  drinking.  Just about anything greasy tastes good after a certain hour in the night when drinking.

Same thing in the Twin Cities. No Sonics anywhere in Minnesota, or even Wisconsin for that matter. There must be better uses for their advertising dollars.

We do have some IHOPs though.

In-N-Out has my vote for best burger.  I remember sneaking one into a theatre a few years back when I lived in the wonderful world of Las Vegas.  Gotta love that uber-simple menu.

3. Wendy's (gotta love the 99 cent Jr. Bacon Cheesseburgers)

Wendy's bumped up their price on most of the 99 cent menu stuff here in Minnesota to $1.19 :(

they did the same thing here in Chicago, except I believe it's $1.29. but ahh yes the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, back in HS, whenever I would goto Wendy's on lunch it would always be 2 Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers, biggie fries and a biggie Coke. Those were the days, when I could burn that **** off by just walking back to class....

One of the best burgers I ever had was at the Hard Rock Cafe at City Walk in Universal City after having a few beers ( a lot ) at the Universal Amphitheater during a concert. I don't know if the burger was really good or if a handful of dirt would have tasted about the same right about then.

Hey, this thread is back...

So I went to Red Robbin just a couple weeks ago...  IT SUCKED!   >:(

First, it's expensive...  For $31, 2 people ate a burger, a softdrink, a Coors Lite, a salad, and an order of cheesesticks.  I could've eaten a good meal somewhere else for that much.  I mean, there's a Texas Roadhouse across the road from this RR that I've eaten a better meal for just as much.

Fudruckers = Vastly superior burger IMO.  I was not impressed.

Plus that goddam bird was wandering the place and annoying when you tried to leave the restaurant.

I've gotta plug a local place - if you're ever in Pensacola check out the Scenic 90 Cafe on Cervantes Street (aka Highway 90).  They have the best burger, fries, and shake we've found.  They just went up on their prices a little, I think it's now $4.50 for the burger and fries and $3.49 for the shake, but it's worth it.  I can never finish the burger, so I always have a snack for later.   :)

National chain-wise, I'll go with Burger King.  We used to eat at Hardee's a lot, but their new prices are too high for fast food.
