Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Walking Dead

I thought the Maggie thing was kind of odd also but then, like Bill said, she probably used them to keep the others off of her.

I liked last night's episode.  I thought it was interesting to see how far Bob had come.  I don't know if I missed something or if it was planned, but when he was wandering alone at the beginning I didn't realize it was in the past and when I saw Daryl come riding up on his chopper it still took a second for it to kick in that it was a flashback.  Which, I thought, was good storytelling.  Anyway, he seems to have the best attitude about things right now and Maggie and Sasha need that.

Daryl's situation, on the other hand. That was not a good outcome for him.

I was so happy when I saw Archer was getting picked up for 2 more seasons.  But, I don't know why it wouldn't, it's still firing on all cylinders.  I really like how they switched this season up.

Since this new F4 movie will be a reboot it seems likely they'll go back to Doom.  Fox rebooted X-Men and went right back to Magneto as the villain so... Track record?  I'd be more than happy to see a different villain, though.

I liked that the reboot of Spider-Man didn't go with Goblin but Lizard instead, seeing as how he was teased in two previous films.  Even though we're getting Goblin in the second...eh.

Magneto didn't really emerge as the villain until the end of the movie.  Shaw was the baddy in the reboot.

Eh, six of one...

Joe Defender / Re: Toy Fair 2014 Hasbro Presentation
« on: February 18, 2014, 05:29 PM »
I'd much rather have an online exclusive, or shared exclusive, than TRU.  TRU is fine if you have a store in town but the closest to me are 35+ minutes in any one direction and their online handling of things is usually a crap shoot.

I'm also disappointed that Hasbro couldn't find a partner anywhere to do a 12" figure for the 50th Anniversary.  After all, it's the 12" figure's anniversary, not the ARAH 4" figures.  When the 25th Anniversary of ARAH came out I don't remember anyone thinking the 12" line got the shaft because there weren't any offerings but this time around the 4" collectors seemed to expect something and they got it.

Having said that, I pretty much want it all even though there are a lot of repeats of characters we already have.  The thing that always sucks is that you have to suffer repacks you have to get figures you don't.  Or vehicles, I guess, since I want the Wolf.  I'm also not thrilled that the classic colored VAMP Mk II & Flint will be part of the SDCC set even though there's some rumors now that it will be available after the show like last year's MP Transformers were.

I am mostly happy with the character choices though.  No Duke, only 1 Snake Eyes, no Cobra Commander or Storm Shadow or Roadblock.  I'm very happy to see Lady Jaye vs Baroness also.  Plus it looks like the figure versions are solid choices for those that already existed.  The Night Marksmen set with Low-Light vs the Night Viper is an excellent set w/ a great theme.

The KRE-O line is kind of nice but the only thing I've bought from that are some of the bagged figures.  I'm glad they're doing more Adventure Team characters in the next 2 waves also.

I saw you had some back-and-forth with them on Twitter asking about the accessories with the Aliens.  I like what I'm hearing so far.

Looks like BBTS has the Alien up for pre-order now at $20.  I should probably throw one on the PoL.

I saw those all over Twitter today.  They look excellent.  Never heard of that company before but I see they have some WWII military figures and whatnot.  Looks about on 21st Century quality, maybe a little better.  The Aliens figures look really good.  And I'm with you on the Colonial Marines figures.

I don't know what kind of price point that company has or if they're in the US market (other than online).

Out of all the pics I looked at I thought the Rocketeer and the Nightmare figures probably looked the best.  I didn't care for the Predator figures either and I had high hopes for those.

IIRC there was also a heating factor involved.  The sword that the Silver Samurai used had a heated blade but I don't recall right now if that was what he eventually used to cut off the claws.  But once he did cut them, he drilled into the bone marrow, as mentioned.  And, after the battle was over, the bone regrew but without the adamantium.

I'm just assuming the trailer/photos from DoFP are either an out-of-time Logan or Magneto helped him out somewhere.

I actually liked The Wolverine but really dislike Wolverine Origins.

Tomb Raider came out in 1996, years before Jolie became a household name.

And Rhona Mitra was one of the first Lara Croft models, before she became a household name.

I watched Helix this weekend.  It had some interesting things going for it but in general it feels like I've already seen it.  Shady lab head, disease outbreak, mole, incompetent doctors, a "secure" facility that's anything but...  I don't see what it's going to bring that's "new" yet.

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2014: What Are You Collecting?
« on: December 28, 2013, 09:27 PM »
I knew this thread would be coming up soon.

For me, I don't know.  I'm so over pretty much everything Hasbro is putting out that I will probably only pick up Star Wars figures and vehicles that fall into my focus, AT-AT Driver and Republic Gunship, and maybe the odd Yoda figure.  Same pretty much goes for all the license holders, Lego, Sideshow, Gentle Giant, etc.

I bought series 2 of the GI Joe Club figures so I'll be getting them along with 2014's subscription figures but I'm out on the Con sets and unless Hasbro wows me with something (12") for the 50th anniversary I probably won't be buying anything else.

Lego?  Maybe a set or two, no specific line, but I say that then never buy much unless it's on deep clearance and I'm speculating on it.

Other stuff?  Maybe a figure here and there from Onell Design or the Four Horsemen and I'm in on the Eaglemoss Star Trek ship subscription for the year, at least.  Probably a few more Hot Wheels cars that are related to movies/tv shows I like and that's about it.

I'm kind of uninterested in collecting these days and the prospect of Hasbro and other shops ramping up for Episode VII in 2015 annoys me more than anything.  I'm more in a thin the collection mood than build it.  We'll see what Toy Fair has to offer but I'm not holding out that I'll see anything, from any company, that will excite me.

I'm actually pretty excited about Cross Country and the HAVOC especially since they're using the Snow Cat design, which I like.

I'll end up with both figures and add-ons this year.

I'm not up for either of the Convention sets, though.  Maybe I'll change my mind on the 12" set once we see it but from the announcement the only thing I'd really be interested in is the 3.75" Colton figure coming with it...which will probably be easier to get than the carded version they're going to sell.

Middle Earth / Re: LOTR LEGO

I think Lego offers free shipping on anything over $75 pretty much all the time now.  Some of these larger sets, and the ones that are Lego exclusives, don't get discounted very often and usually not when they're brand new like the Tower or the new Ewok village.  But if they're around for a while you might see a discount.

What can end up as a better deal is if you're a VIP member you can pick sets like this up and during their specials get double or even triple VIP rewards points which then lets you save money later.  Two weeks ago on Saturday they did a 1 day triple VIP offering so I ordered the Rancor set and a couple polybags.  There was tax on the order but they were also doing a free shipping promo (I didn't hit $75 but they may have lowered it to a $50 threshold during that offer) so I didn't pay any more than I would have at retail.  Plus, the 221 VIP points will get me a decent $10 discount later on.
