Title: Comic Con (former Drop Box)
Post by: Vator on June 16, 2004, 12:05 PM
Well, as we are fast on the approach of Comic Con San Diego (nice city too, btw) I figured it'd be time to make a thread where we could speculate on what we'll see, and propose questions to JediMac, who will be attending the con (props go to OCB for that suggestion)

Und here ve go...

Qs for Big H:

Why is it that the SA Clonetrooper was released in such a small amount? Any chance of a re-release for the 2nd Season of Clone Wars? Or possibly reusing the body (sans helmet) for the Episode III Clonetrooper?
And along the same lines: What are the chances of the Clone Wars Army Builder Three Packs being re-released with updated decals and gear (ie clones) for Episode III?

How are you approaching the Episode III line in aspects of Articulation? Are we looking at definative sculpts with good articulation ala the VOTC, or craptastic sculpts with super mega kungfu action?

Seeing as how a correctly scaled TIE Fighters wings would be 16 inches tall, what are the chances of such a large iteam being released as an exclusive, much like the Imperial Shuttle or Sandcrawler?

Favorite Collecting Site? :P

I hope to see at SD Comic Con:
Not asking for too much, am I? As far as Q's for the Big H via JediMAC:

Actually, with the huge Star Wars emphasis I wouldn't be suprised if we see stuff for November or Decmeber.

I like this thread.  Questions I would love to see answered (someday) by Hasbro are as follows:

- will we ever get a modular Death Star playset
- will we ever get a giant Sail Barge vehicle/playset

- will we ever get an AT-TE made
- wil we ever get a Homing Spider Droid made

- will we get more movie style EU figures (NJO, Clone Wars, etc)
- will get VOTC style prequel figures

- will we ever get the "U" piece to the cantina bar
- will we ever get a circular Death Star command console

- will we ever get prequel Owen, Beru and Cliegg
- will we ever get a better Bib Fortuna (TPM version too)

- will we ever get a decent Snowspeeder pilot
- will we ever get CW style army builder 3-pks from all the films

 :)

How close is OCB's card to the real thing for Episode III???
Oh...and with the big Show Next Week!  Good time to get those questions into this thread so Matt can pound some skulls

Heres a couple Matt.

1.  When does Hasbro plan on finishing the last of the vintage figs in the   modern line?  Why no new ewoks?

2.  Are any new cantina figs in the works?

3.  Will any new figs be produced to tie in with the new scenes in the DVD release?  ex.  Vader (Haydens face) with removable helmet, Spirit of Anakin (Haydens face).

4.  Any plans for a VOTC Power of the Force wave?

5.  Whats the story with shortpacked and HTF figs?  Ephant Mon, SA Clone, Sio Bibble, TC-14, etc?  Will any be re-released?

Is the 12" line dead in the water?  If not, will they be doing 3 more vintage for 2005?

-What's the chances of seeing the quality shown to the VOTC figures carry over to the basic line, at least as far as articulation goes?

-Has Hasbro considered the idea of "Versus" 2-packs where they include one Super Articulated Army Building figure Vs. another (IE: SA Hoth Rebel Soldier Vs. SA Hoth Stormtrooper, or SA Fleet Trooper Vs. SA Stormtrooper, etc.)?

-Has Hasbro considered resculpting the AT-ST or Snowspeeder vehicles ever?  Either one done to-scale and as exquisitely as the Landspeeder would be awesome.

-Action Features aren't making a comeback for E3 are they?  (And if they say yes, freak out on them Matt)

-And not a question, but ask them to give army builder figures a shout from the collectors...  When DONE RIGHT they sell awesome.  I'd love to see new stuff like Fleet Troopers, Hoth Rebels, Imperial Officers, etc...  They just gotta do stuff right for it to move, not like that Saga Hoth Soldier.

Round II

- Is there a chance that Collectors Fleet may be re-released?

- NJO figures...ever?

- What's the long term view of the line post EP3?

- What do you have against Wedge?

- More Clone Troopers.  Really.

- There are still many PT figs we want.  Don't forget them.

-How about a 4-pack of Commtech-era Stormtroopers widely available at retail, or as a TRU exclusive? I'm sick of not finding this repack in stores.

-SA Clonetrooper. Will it return? This is possibly the greatest prequel figure, and it's a shame to see such limited distribution.

- any chance they can fire the monkeys who are handling distribution of these new figures and products and get some good people working in there?

- any chance they can fire the monkeys who decide on the case packs and just make every figure come out at 2 per case, with 6 new figures per case, kinda like the simpsons figures were?

Here's a question that will just get Matt a "duhhh" look from whatever Hasbro rep he can speak with...

- With the use of harder plastics for accessories in your more widely popular GI Joe and Transformers line, can we please have a better plastic used for your Star Wars line.

Add to that...

- I want a refund for all of my Saga Battle Droids! :)

I want to see and hear about figures that are coming out after the original 38 OTC figures.

I want to know about Hasbro's plans for the 1st quarter of next year (before Ep.3).

I guess this one has been somewhat answered, thanks to Scott.  Looks like the Holo Emperor is in fact based on Ian McDirmad, although a rehash.

See what they say when they see this...also ask what's gonna happen in the few months between the end of OTC and April 2005 with the cardbacks

Sorry to derail the thread, but here's my best guess as to what they will answer this with and what they will actually wind up doing.

ANSWER THEY WILL GIVE YOU:  "We understand that the buzz will be building around Episode III, so we are going to offer products that tie the entire six film saga together with figures from both the Original and Prequel Trilogies.  We know that the fans are looking forward to getting new characters and although we cannot tell you what we will be releasing for the new film, we can tell you that we have a lot of amazing products coming up in 2005."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE REAL DIRT:  "Since we've already blown our creative load on Episode III stuff, which you will not even see until April, we're just going to shove out four figures or so, maybe a beast or some little overpriced speeder bike, from the first group of things we have done for Episode III about two months before the big launch of E3 stuff.

As for the rest of the line, we're going to repackage some of the prequel stuff on OTC style cards just to keep stuff on the shelves, which will no doubt be clogged with OTC recards by the beginning of the year.  None of this will be our fault, however; retail just overordered.  We didn't do anything resembling marketing suicide, and you should pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

We might put out that rumored Coruscant wave of figures, but if we do, we'll put it out at the very tail end of the pre-E3 stuff so it will only make it out in short supply, nobody will be able to find it and we'll refuse to rerelease them so we can put that Cantina Han on another card to milk the completists.

We think we'll recard Bail Organa, and probably the Council version of Yoda, but not the SA Clone Trooper, since it would cost more money to remold since there are more parts.  We could have continued to keep that SA Clone in circulation in some form, but then we wouldn't have had the energy to devote to our superior newly sculpted figures like 2004's Hoth Trooper or AT-ST Han Solo!

Oh, and we're going to do a TRU exclusive box set with six Stormtroopers!  The thing is though that they will all be POTF2 version Stormtroopers, since like we said, the more parts, the more costly it is for us to do them.  We think we'll throw a grey suited Imperial Controller in there, just to get the collectors to buy it so when they complain later, we can just say that we released that figure and it's not our faults if you didn't want to buy six crappy Stormtroopers to get it!

We're also going to do something to pacify you fanboys and finally release an AOTC three pack of Owen, Beru and Cliegg Lars!  It will be exclusive to a Texaco convenient store on the coast of Maine that my brother-in-law works in the deli of, and you can only buy one if you buy 40 gallons of gas on one visit.  It will be 50 dollars, since it is a small market item, but our contracts prevent us from selling it online through SWS.com or any other etailer, so I guess you can make friends in Maine or suck it up and go to Ebay, losers.

As for the Episode III stuff, we're going to release 50 figures on the first release, and another 50 by the end of the year.  After all, we've been working our asses off since January of 2004 on this crap, and even though most of the later stuff will never show up, we're going to keep shoving the initial waves into the later cases since those kids just go apesh!t over stuff that has been hanging on the pegs for six months and has a fine layer of dust on the packaging.  Look how well the Spider-Man stuff is selling these days!  Stores will be clogged with Episode III stuff by the end of 2005, but it will be all their faults since they didn't order enough of the products we offered them.

Oh, and tell that DoctorPadawan fellow on JD.com that he can eat my ass.  Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go run the Transformers line into the ground.  Live long and prosper!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

So...um...yeah....ask them if they are ever going to make the rest of the Padme/Amidala gown figures from either of the first two prequels.  I'm going to go put my tin foil hat on and pretend I never posted this.  ;D

Talked to Matt last night, he said there wasn't much in the way of news that he was able to gleen from anyone there.  He hoped to try and get some answers today if possible and for sure tomorrow at the Q&A

Or Chewie's or R2's autograph too...

I guess the poor kid needs the money since he's such a bad actor he hasn't really worked since Ep1 :(
