Watto's Junk Yard / Prayers and good thoughts requested
« on: February 28, 2009, 10:36 AM »
Hey everyone.  I had an ultrasound last week and my Dr. called late yesterday w/the results.  Some of the findings were expected -- but some weren't.  He was concerned about a suspicious mass he found that he wants biopsied as soon as possible.  Of course they tell me this at 5:00 on a Friday.  I don't mean to sound dramatic, but the waiting and the unknown are freaking us out a little.  If you could keep us in your prayers it would be greatly appreciated.

Watto's Junk Yard / Any House Fans in the House?
« on: February 3, 2009, 09:15 PM »
We've started watching House in the past few months (thanks to the USA Network & reruns on Fox, I'm all caught up).  It has become one of my favorite shows.  Hugh Laurie as House is now my favorite tv character - possibly of all time.  I love the exchanges he has with Cuddy, Wilson, his staff and patients.

Watto's Junk Yard / Need advice on buying speakers
« on: December 7, 2007, 08:47 AM »
My husband recently bought an Xbox and an LCD television.  I wanted to suprise him Christmas morning with some desktop speakers for the television to enhance his gaming experience.  The room that the tv/xbox is in is only about 10x10 and I'm hoping to spend less than $100.00.  I saw these and thought they might be good(?) -- but speakers seem to be a "guy" thing, so I would appreciate any input I could get from you guys.  Thanks!

Watto's Junk Yard / Quick Computer Question
« on: November 27, 2007, 06:47 PM »
I'm getting ready to unplug my computer so I can move it to another room before the guys come tomorrow to relocate my internet hookup.  Do I need to do anything special before I shut it down and unplug it, i.e., back anything up?  I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to this stuff and I knew you guys were the ones to help.  Thanks! :)

In ESB, when Luke sees the vision of Han and Leia suffering on Bespin and decides he must go to them, Yoda gives him a little speech about how vulnerable to the Dark Side and Vader he is.  Luke is concerned about Han and Leia and even asks if he's supposed to sacrifice them.  That's a perfect opportunity for Yoda to whip out the old "Attachment leads to jealousy......" and "Death is a part of life/rejoice for those who have become one w/the Force" speech that he tried on Anakin.   Later, when Luke is leaving and Obi-Wan shows up and they both try and convince him to stay its another missed opportunity for the speech.  Did Yoda realize the fallacy of it after Anakin?  After the fall of the Republic and the years of solitude on Dagobah did he come to realize that some of the old ways weren't the best ways?   Maybe he (or the Jedi collectively if they were still in existence as a whole at that time) was the one who needed to let go of his attachment to the Code.  Or had GL simply not thought that far ahead yet?

(Side note:  When you run spell check -- "Ewan" is listed as a suggestion for "Obi-Wan")

Watto's Junk Yard / Anything ever stop you dead in your tracks?
« on: February 23, 2007, 03:55 PM »
Have you ever had anything happen to you that seemed to make time stand still?  Has anything ever shaken you to the core?  Have you ever been going along your merry way, enjoying life, then see or hear something that pulls the rug out from under you?

I was out with my parents and 2 year old today having lunch.  I got up to get something and turned the corner.   I happend to look over a see a woman who looked over at me with the warmest smile and said "Well hello".  I dropped my drink and just stood there like an idiot.  She was the spitting image of Shannon Reynolds.  Her hair was cut just the way Shannon's was not long before she died.  The woman must have thought I was a moron, but she just smiled at me while I fumbled my way back to my table.

That, of course, was not a core-shaker.  I would have to say the birth of my two children were core-shakers.  Holding a friend while she died is a core-shaker.  This was merely a quiver.

So, has anyone had one of those moments?  Has something stopped you in your tracks?  Shaken you to your core?  Freaked you out?

Watto's Junk Yard / Tattoos -- Love 'Em or Hate 'Em?
« on: August 29, 2006, 02:04 PM »
I've been debating about getting a tattoo for a long time.  I know what I want -- the main thing that has been holding me back is finding just the right design that I want to live with for the rest of my life.  It would be something very meaningful to me -- my husband and I would get matching Celtic crosses with our children's and each other's names or initials entwined in it.  Placement is another issue.  I want it somewhere subtle, but I don't necessarily want to hide it either.   Then I see some of these heavily inked and genetically enhanced women/girls and I have to laugh when I imagine what they are going to look like when they get old. :o

So -- who has a tattoo?  Do you still like it?  Do you regret it?  How do you feel about tattoos on women?

Watto's Junk Yard / Small World
« on: May 24, 2006, 07:06 PM »
Have you ever been blown away by just how small the world is?  While chatting with Famine/Kevin -- we realized we were related!  His great grandfather and my husband's grandfather are brothers.  Kevin and Chris are 2nd cousins, once removed, we think :-\  Either way-- Famine is fahmily!!!! :)

Also -- Shannon/Princess and I have a few connections as well.  We have family in some of the same small towns in MS and LA.  Her Aunt is a teacher at the same small, private academy where my cousin is the principal.  We realized that Shannon met my cousin during a trip there earlier this year.

I'm sure some of you have had similar, JD and non-JD small world stories........

The Prequel Trilogy / Top 25 Worst Sequels Ever Made
« on: March 20, 2006, 03:16 PM »
The 25 Worst Sequels Ever Made - http://www.ew.com/ew/onlyonaol/report/0,17129,1169126_21||525488_0_,00.html

Entertainment Weekly names the best of the nearly unwatchable movie sequels. We dredged the bottom of the sequel swamp to bring you this list by Chris Nashawaty:

12. Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace 1999

Is there any doubt that Jake (Yippeeee!) Lloyd will be remembered as the intergalactic Jonathan Lipnicki? The dread kicks in during the opening scroll with its eye-glazing backstory about Trade Federations and taxation routes. We didn't wait 20 years for a lecture on supply-side economics! Right off the bat, Liam Neeson saves the life of Gungan minstrel Jar Jar Binks and it all goes to hell from there.
