Title: Knights of the Old Republic
Post by: dustrho on July 7, 2003, 09:39 PM
Just saw a TV commercial for this game, and it looks sweeeeeet!  What does everyone here think about this upcoming game?  Do you have it on pre-order?  Are you going to play it for the PC or XBOX?

This is the game I'm most looking forward to this summer (been waiting for it for months, stupid delays  ::)). As of right now, the tentative date for release of it is sometime around July 15th-17th. It has not officially been confirmed for that date but that is what most game stores and sites have it listed as, for now anyway. I plan on picking it up for the X-Box as my computer is not near fast enough to play it plus I don't want to wait another several months for the PC release.

I agree though, this game looks and sounds awesome.  ;D

I'll likely nab it for PC eventually.  It's not high on my priority list, but it does appear nice in the commercial.  If I cannot play it, I will wait till I've upgraded and can...  I'm not sure on specs really.

I'm still curious to see some specifics about Republic Commando more.  That piques my interest for sure. :)

It was just officially announced earlier that the Xbox version went gold today which means it will in fact be in stores on July 16th.

I know what I'll be buying next week.  8)

Anyone playing this?

I have about 10 hours into it and lovin' it.
Sweet game and seems like it's going to go on for a looong time.

One weird thing that happened twice to my 12 yr old is he saved two different games and both were corrupt.
Very weird they would not load.

Not sure if he disrupted the save but...

Needless to say he's hacked i'm so far ahead of him now.  ;)

Jimmy, are you playing it on the X-Box or the PC?  Just curious, because I have PC and wanted to see if it runs nicely on it or not.

Post by: Jesse James on July 22, 2003, 03:34 AM
I didn't even realize the PC version was released.  Someone told me PC was pushed back some, but I guess not.

Gotta get off my @$$ and get that game...  Looks really sweet...  I played with it at my friend Dan's house.  He has an X-Box and wanted a good Star Wars game so I told him to hold off for this since it was predicted to be so good.

It looked nice, but not as visually impressive as I thought it was going to be...  Still it was nice looking (Nothing like Obi-Wan which was terrible in the visual department).

Can't wait to actually get INTO the game though.
Title: Re: Knights of the Old Republic
Post by: Jimmy on July 22, 2003, 09:55 AM
I think the PC version is still on hold...
I have it on the Box.

It's a great game actually the visuals are pretty slick.
The movies are great.

There is a lot to this game though. I have been at it 10+ hours and am still on the first planet. I got a double bladed saber now but don't have enough skills, etc to use it.

Pick it up though if you have a Box... and if you wait for PC as long as play is smooth I highly recommend it.

Post by: chuckles on July 22, 2003, 11:15 AM
I too have it on the Xbox. Picked it up last Thursday and am enjoying it very much. One of the best games I've ever played, it's that good.

I'm about 17 hrs in and only on the second planet. It took me about 13hrs to finally get off the first planet. There was just so much to do and I was in no rush to plow thru the main story.

Jimmy, are you going for a dark side character or a light side character in your game?
Title: Re: Knights of the Old Republic
Post by: Jimmy on July 22, 2003, 01:01 PM
chuckles I opted for a light side... I know...
I love Imperials more in the cannon but decided to go light in the game.

Really fun game though.

I can't wait to get onto another planet like chuckles.
Title: Re: Knights of the Old Republic
Post by: chuckles on July 22, 2003, 02:20 PM
I'm going thru it on the light side as well. But at some point, would like to play thru it on the dark side and see how all the different side quests play out differently and to see the different ending.

I won't spoil anything but there are some pretty cool things that will happen once you hit the second planet.  ;D

Post by: dustrho on July 22, 2003, 03:35 PM
You guys are right... the PC version hasn't been released yet.  I just assumed the PC version was released the same time as the X-Box version.

Once I get it for the PC, I will most definitely choose the Dark Side.
Title: Re: Knights of the Old Republic
Post by: Jesse James on July 22, 2003, 04:29 PM
Yeah, I'm going with darkside first too...

I believe my friend Dan summed that up best by saying this in an email to me today;

"Yeah, so you can choose your own path and if you wanna be a dark or light jedi guy.  so of course I'm gonna be a d!ck and go with the dark jedi thing first. :) "

hehe...  Sounds pretty fun to me.

I was telling him how something similar was in Jedi Knight back in the day...  Made a more interesting game for sure.

PC version shouldn't be too far behind so hopefully before long, and so long as my computer can handle  it.  I'm in desparate need of an upgrade though (My CD-ROM is a 24x, hehe :)  Sad huh?)

I own the GameCube, PS2, and now as today an X-Box. Knights of the Republic is the reason I bought this system. I am not happy with PS2 or GameCube at all. GameCube will have Rouge Squad 3 this winter so that is good.

Anyways like I said today I became an X-Box owner. I just could not pass up the deal that Best Buys is running this past week. For $199.99 you get the X-Box, Extra Controller, Extension Cables, and any Platinum game. I picked Obi-Wan's Adventure which I think is a really fun game. I have been playing it for most of the day today.

Ok, now for Knights of the Old Republic. This is the reason I really broke down to buy the X-Box. I have heard nothing but good reviews for this game. I will start playing it real soon. .. I have to keep playing Obi-Wan. I really like this game (for an older X-Box game).

Well, Have Fun Playing Your Games!!

Well, I broke down and bought a Xbox it last week so I could play it, its got a great story line and it's alot of fun... Biggest problem with this Game is there are alot of bugs.  Not all are bad bugs but the Carth Bug sucks!  Other than that the Game is great.  I hope the do a follow up to it just without the bugs.

I beat my first game about two months ago with almost 30 hours put into it.  :o That's how addicting it is. It also took me two months to beat. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't discuss the plot, but things come together nicely. One day, I'm going to start a new game and join the Dark Side (I ended my first game as a good Jedi).

I'm not about 30 hours into the game, and I'm still working on trying to finish it.  I'm completely immersed in the Dark Side of the Force.

Post by: Jesse James on November 22, 2003, 04:52 AM
I just picked this up this week, so hopefully I'll get a lil gaming into this.  I want to put a little focus onto Rebel Strike though first.  I've yet to complete it because I just don't have the time anymore.

I wanna get everything going though and hopefully be able to give a lil review on all the games of late...

God, 4 CD's?  Hmmmm, I don't wanna fill up my harddrive here!  I've only got like 9 gig left free...   ;D :o

Still, this is probably the largest game I've ever played personally.

Ugh, and I'm still playing Call of Duty too...  Highly recommended.  I can honestly say I've NEVER played against such intelligent AI as in CoD...  It's worth the experience.  Set it to a higher difficulty level if you really wanna pi$$ yourself off.

Fun though...  It's everything the MOH series was missing, and then some.  Short is its only flaw.  Eh, that and maybe a lack of good weather effects implemented within the game (Something MOH did pull off nicely), but that I'll live with.

that's not bad... i remember buying an x-files pc game back in the day that came on 9 cd's. 9. and if you wanted to load the entire game to your hard drive so that you didn't need to keep switching cd's? 7.7 gb. damn...
Title: Re: Knights of the Old Republic
Post by: Jesse James on November 25, 2003, 10:20 PM
Yeah, the general # is 2, but yeah 4 isn't the most for sure...   Just the most I've had to load for one game.

It's a huge game mind you, and the X-Box version is a bit different (the system itself is solely for gaming, so it's different for an X-Box and PC), but 4 is the most I've ever had to load to play a game personally.

Took about 5 Gigabytes...  or, 1/4 of my total harddrive space...  or, 1/2 of my unused HD space, haha.

Oh well, at least I got a CD burner recently so I'm gnna be freeing up space by unloading .jpg's and whatnot to CD.

No, I haven't finished it yet, but I know I've got to be close (won't give it away though why I know that!  :-* ).  I've put in at least 40 hours into the game, but there's a problem.  My wife bought me Halo and Star Wars: Jedi Academy recently, so I don't have all the time in the world for KOTOR.

If you have any questions about the game Wayne just let me know.   8)

I have a question for a PC gamer.  I have a new HP Pavilion PC and I'm having problems with KOTOR of which I thought would work just dandy on my new machine as I haven't upgraded for over 7 years.

Anyway, menus are flawless as with the sound, the graphics are crisp and rich - yet the gameplay is in slow motion.  I've tried setting all the graphic settings to their lowest and I've reinstalled the game but no dice.

I have 512MB ram and a ATI Radeon Express 200 video card.  Is it just that the card sucks and I need an upgrade?

Last PC game I played was Diablo II so I've been outta the loop for a while on this stuff. :-\
Title: Re: Knights of the Old Republic
Post by: SilverZ on January 3, 2006, 04:24 PM
That's a new PCI-Express card, right?

It should run KOTOR just fine. The game is starting to age though and the newer Radeon hardware (or even PCI-E) might be a problem for it. I'd check the ATI website and make sure you're running the latest drivers, and then hit lucasarts for any KOTOR patches. One of them should have addressed it.
Title: Re: Knights of the Old Republic
Post by: iFett on January 8, 2006, 06:59 AM
Thanks for your help Jared...

The fine folks from the help forums from lucas arts basically informed me that KOTOR 1 & 2 doesn't support my card and I'm not willing to jump through so many hoops to get this thing working only half-assed.

I recently had to reformat the hard drive on my laptop and the good part of the experience was I was presented with an opportunity to play this game again from the beginning!  It was fun to play it knowing the outcome and appreciating what a wonderful game it still is!  I also saved it at the point in the temple where you can choose to be light or dark, just so I could see the two major endings without playing through the game completely.

I now get to try my hand at KOTOR II, a great game but not quite as good as the original.

I'm bumping this because I have a problem...

I'm finally breezing through KOTOR and at the end I'm having some difficulty with the robots Malak unleashes on me.  The boxes and consoles are all covered in force fields...  I cheated to look up a walkthrough but I'll be damned if it explains how you get those fields off there.

What am I doing wrong here?   ???

Yeah, old game, but I just decided this year to tear into it and KOTOR2 when I have time, which is rare, so it's taking me a while.
Title: Re: Knights of the Old Republic

You're talking about the robots on the Star Forge Right?  As I recall, you have to just keep hitting them with a coordinated attack until they are destroyed.  I used the kill/disabe droid force power quite a bit against them.

Also, remember when you pause the game you can use health packs and adrenals without having to watse a turn in combat.

Hope this helps.

I felt pretty dumb trying to get past some of the puzzles...but that's also half the fun.
Title: Re: Knights of the Old Republic
Post by: Jesse James on August 4, 2007, 01:46 AM
It boiled down to me not pressing B out of combat mode...  Because I never ever did that ever in the game, so I didn't know to do it, and it just really was dumb of me.  I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out how I was supposed to open/beat on the door or open the containers, or work the computer consoles and whatnot.  Very stupid.

I did "cheat" every once in a while because some of the side quests involved complex mathematics, which while I've had a lot of accounting over the years including some higher level complex accounting, I haven't had a lot of high level math classes like Calc or Trig and stuff, and there was some really tough math to some of those puzzles I found.  I wasn't happy about that, haha.

Please a Question for those who owns KOTOR 1 on PC... I have them both on XBOX & KOTOR II on PC, but I want the PC v. of KOTOR 1

I own KOTOR II on PC, the one I have is the old Carded box like, wich include  "keyboard Map card"

However I saw there in the store also KOTOR II in Plastic Hard case wich not include the "Keyboard Map"

The way I know is that the Store has them new, but they take the cd's away so people couldn't steal it.

To My Question:

1) Input methods: can u really use gamepad on both? <--- OK Wiki does say

2) does KOTOR #1 include the "Keyboard Map"?

I saw that they have the 1st issue of KOTOR in carded box (not the later hard plastic case), but when I opened it to see if all stuff was in it, I didn't found the "Keyboard Map" that KOTOR II does include  ??? stolen?... if you happen to own the old carded box one, please state if it does come or not with it, cuz I really dont like to buy an incomplete item cuz its quite a collectible for me.

I couldn't find a photo reference on Ebay cuz everyone use internet photos...

but here is my example of K-2 Keyboard map

Thanks in advance, apreciate your help.

Thanks Matt, not need to check, I went up again 2 the store for  fear that I maight not see again the game, I digged up the book, and it does come printed in the book itself, not like Kotor II that does has an extra card of the keyboard map... I didn't expected something like that cuz all my sim's etc came in the extra card...

Now I have to have fun with it & try the online mods, now that for Xbox such thing doesn't exist  :)

I hope that the new Old Republic game be as good as these.

Thanks again Matt  :)

Some industrious fans who develop games are working on an update of Knights Of The Old Republic.  They're working independent of Bioware, the company that developed the original game.  This new version is driven by an improved game engine and will feature new planets, maps and missions.  And it's reported that this update will be FREE.  Disney seems to be leaving the developers alone since they intend to release this update to KOTOR for free, and not as a commercial release.  Check out THIS GAMESPOT PIECE ABOUT THE UPDATE (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/star-wars-knights-of-the-old-republic-being-remade/1100-6434804/)
