Has TV on DVD reached such a competitive state that they need to resort to these kinds of gimmicks to move even the Simpsons? I'm really anal about organizing my DVD collection, and I absolutely hate packaging that doesn’t conform and work with normal display. I like to be able to read the spines and I don’t want a giant yellow Homer head sitting in the middle of my 1200-odd DVDs.
That Homer head sucks balls

I was milling around Best Buy tonight (which was kind enough to demonstrate once again that their inventory blows) looking for something new and exciting, found nothing, and came back home to see what was coming up next week. Boy, there's nothing good coming. Even in the next few weeks, there's just not much happening DVD-wise.

This is the best I could do in my search:

And those aren't until July 12. And yes, I've just lumped Garbage Pail Kids and Hilary Skank together.

Although my wife teased me for being "a dork", I went and picked this up yesterday:

I've only watched one episode on there, but if you look at it the same way as when you were a kid, they are still fun.  The good ole days.  Sounds like full season sets are headed out in October-ish as well.  I'm not sure if I'll shell out the money for those or not, but its nice to at least have a few episodes on DVD.  I remember the days of coming home after school (or before school/summertime) and catching shows like He-Man, GI Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, and for awhile...M.A.S.K. (if anyone remembers that show).  I'm not sure which was my favorite, they were all good :).

Scratch Naked Lunch off of that list - they were all out of it at the MTC - as was every other movie trading company within 50 miles.  Disappointing since one of them had a copy like 3 weeks ago.

Nabbed both of those aaaaaand...

I'm convinced Anchor Bay can do no wrong when it comes to delivering cult flicks. A TWO DISC release of "Freaked"? 3/4th's of the free world's never even seen the damn thing, and they threw together a fantastic package.

I sold down my collection, yes, again, by about 60 titles..just routine spring cleaning, picked up a few must haves along the way.

I remember the first time I saw naked Lunch-  a friend invited me over for a psychotropic getogether and against my better judgment I agreed to watch…before he pushed the play button he said, “if ever there was a movie that a religion should be based upon, this is it”.

I picked up the Constantine 2 Disc Collectors Edition. :)

I'm a sucker for Comic Book movies.

I'm counting the days till Batman Begins hits DVD.

I can't remember the last DVD I bought.  It's been a long dry spell for me. . .just no real must haves out there.

For a while there I was picking up at least two a week.
This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

What is up with Best Buy lately? Not that I'm a fan by any stretch to begin with, but man, have their prices gone into the toilet. (If it is possible to go up in price and down the toilet at the same time).

They have Sealab Season 3 "on sale" this week for $26.99. That's the normal retail price they sticker it with. The other day I passed on the 2-disc Constantine at Circuit City at $22.99 when I figured that BB would be at that price or lower. When I got there, it was $24.99. They didn't even do a sale price on Very Long Engagement and instead plopped in on the shelves for 22.99.

This week, I'm looking forward to:

Unfortunately I'm in a crappy state of limbo with my move, so I can only watch movies on a laptop... in a hotel room. Sort of defeats the purpose of The Jerk, which is to get it in anamorphic widescreen. Would be nice to watch it on the projector.  :-\

Just make Best Buy price match any ad that you find that has a better price.

That's what I always do - that way I can a) only go to one store, and b) load up on Reward zone points.

I had a really good afternoon, DVD wise. Got "Fantasia" for $11, the LE "Halloween" DVD w/ hologram cover (30,000 worldwide) for $5, got 2 Disc "Close Encounters..." for FREE, and sold my "War of the Worlds" disc for $60.

Nothing of interest this week, until I rent/evaluate "Downfall". Good month overall with the new Dave Chappelle DVD, 3 Disc "Gladiator", "The Dead Next Door", new "X-Files" set, "Kung Fu Hustle", and SE of "The Transporter"

..all this on the heels of learning about the new "Batman" and "Batman Returns" 2 Disc sets!

I know this was touched on before, but this is horrible news for the people who are collecting the complete set (myself included).

This new style does not fit well with the previous 5 seasons....and is a bitch to read on the shelf!

The Simpsons box sets are not selling because of the package - they sell because of the ****** content!
