I received three VSTC Scout Troopers today... and holy freaking hell. This really is quite possibly the best Star Wars figure I've ever seen, and is definitely the best army builder. I loved the preview pics here (they were awesome) but no pics can do this figure justice. I don't think you can really appreciate it until you have one and pose it in different positions yourself.
I used to think the VOTC Stormtrooper or the ROTS SA Clone was the best... but now I feel this is the new standard. Anyone agree/disagree?
Edit - Now in July, I am beginning to like the VOTC Stormtrooper again. Look at me flip flopping on this. :P
:)
-
I'll let you know when I actually see one ;)

I think you'll like it a lot Spectre. I didn't find them in stores or anything, I bought them on ebay from a seller in China (thanks to a link by MetalJedi).
:)

Wow chewie!!!
Thats awesome, too bad they are only in the states...damn...and I just spent 20$ on a bloody 501st Clone...
-
Personally, the armies I look to build are to have about 5 or so of each kind of trooper- maybe more on Stormtroopers and less on things like AT-AT drivers that I don't need many of.
But as actual quality of the figure goes, this looks like it might be the highest; most ranks have figures that are well-sculpted now, but I think this guy might have the most articulation as well plus he has perhaps the best-hidden articulation (though normal stormtrooper and clonetrooper armor lends itself well to hiding articulation too). He does have a swivel waist, right? It's hard to actually tell :)
My claim that he looks like the best-articulated, though, is because judging from pictures he seems to have ball-jointed hips. Hasbro seems to hate ball-jointed hips, as the only other figure I've seen with them was VOTC Luke. Am I correct in thinking this figure has them? Again, it's hard to see for sure.
Let's see; we have all kinds of SA clones, SA Stormtroopers, nearly SA and soon true SA Sandtroopers, and Tie Fighter Pilots and AT-AT drivers with great but not quite super articulation, and for pilots they seem to have all they need. Is there anything missing now besides SA Snowtroopers? Probably some kind of clone I'm not thinking of- I haven't researched clones too much...
I don't own nearly as many of these figures as I'd like though, so probably my best/highest quality armybuilder is my ROTS Evolutions Clone Commander. Speaking of which, did anyone else have problems keeping the helmet on correctly without the chin sticking out the bottom? I did constantly, but then I figured out I could turn the head around backwards and put the helmet on normally :) It makes the face lay a little flatter than it should but it really looks a whole lot better to me. Anyone else do this/have the problem?

Glad you like em Chewie. Im still waiting for mine. Hopefully this week. I got one carded already and will most likely want more.
-
So far, the residue left on the empty pegs from the clamshell casing totally blows my mind and exceeds all expectations I had after seeing the photos of the figure.
I have equally high expectations of the moment-to-be in October '08 when I finally cave and purchase one for $30 on eBay.
-
as the only other figure I've seen with them was VOTC Luke.
Hasbro doesnt hate ball gointed waists, I meen quite a few of them have it, Aayla Secura for example.
-
I'm still taking mine in, but it does seem to be top notch. My only complaint it the right hand, the seem to have taken the POTJ left hand and stuck in on. :P
Best ever? You can certainly argue it.
-
I meant hips, not waists- on almost all the VOTC figures and all the evolutions figures there are standard hip joints just like those on a POTF2 figure. VOTC Luke has ball-jointed hips, more like a GI Joe or 12" figure.
*shrugs*
-
I'm really impressed with the Scout Trooper as well. Being the best army builder ever is a tough one but it is definitely top 3.
-
I'd say he's the best OT sculpt of the year for me, yeah. I've waited a long time for a good Biker Scout, and this is everything I could have hoped for. He sits well on the speeder bike, he stands neutral, and he can be posed just about any other way I'd ever want him to.
He doesn't have ball socket hips, though, just the standard swivel joint. If he did, wow, the figure would be absolutely unreal.
I feel a little awkward with another imperial down where there isn't much room for improvement. I'll have to complain about the speederbike itself needing to be redone, I guess. I want a clear stand, correct handlebars, and accurately scaled foot pedals. :)
-
Yeah, I think the speederbike can be redone as well. I used the deluxe saga one (the brown one) to mess with since it has good handlebars. The bikerscout doesn't sit as well on that one.
-
POTF2 bulky Stormtroopers. :P
So far it's the VOTC stormie, but I haven't seen the VTSC in person yet.
-
I think Hasbro could sell this figure by the case as it is just that nice. Shame it won't be all that easy to find in large numbers.
-
Don't knock those POTF2 stormtroopers, at least they-
actually yeah, they suck :( I need to get a real stormtrooper...
-
I think the best army builder would have to be the Utapau Clone Trooper (Cody's legion), for the $. But if money is not an object then it would have to be the VTSC Scout Trooper, with the VOTC Stormtrooper running a close second.
-
For the money?
Definitely the #41 clone from the ROTS days...I remember picking up a couple at Target for $4.77....ahhh, the good ol' days.
The VOTC stormtrooper is a great figure but at $10 he's a little pricey to army build with. Don't get me started on the new Biker Scout....
We all wants tons of him but most of us won't even get a chance to find one on the pegs.
-
Now that I have him, I'd say the VTSC Biker Scout is the best army builder ever.
-

Or in small numbers, I would imagine. I'm gonna have one hell of a time finding any of these on the shelves. This is where ebay becomes my friend/enemy.

So far, I've not had to use ebay for any Star Wars figures that have come out in the last couple of years. Even for the more unique Clone Troopers. At a certain point, as much as I enjoy these toys, it just gets way too frelling expensive. With this figure starting out at $11.99 in the stores, it's already making me question whether or not it's worth having. Alas, it's a great figure and I'm glad I have at least one but I can't bring myself to pay ebay prices for something I have seen or will see, sitting in a store. Worst case scenario, I don't see it in a store and get one at cost from a friend or fellow hunter. It pays to help other people and hunt with a pack. ;)

I don't see this price lasting too long. A fellow SoCal collector found the VTSC wave at TRU today and they rang up at $9.99. Target is most likely starting their price out high and will come down after a while once they see the competition is less. Although, lets hope the competition doesn't follow suit with Target and raise theirs!
As for army builders, the Scout is definitely one of the best! Along side the VOTC Stormtrooper and any variant of the #41 Clone.

Yes, that #41 Clone in just about any color is a pretty sweet figure. In many ways, I like it even better then I do any version of the Stormtroopers.

Agreed totally with this. I'll always prefer the OT troopers, but their higher price and limited availability makes them less than ideal to army build with.
But that #41 Clone--it's got everything. They were cheap, readily-available, and just as good as the VOTC/VTSC troopers, sculpt- and articulation-wise.
But put the Stormtroopers and Scouts in the basic line, ship them two to a case from here to eternity, and I'll change my vote in a heartbeat. . .
-
I actually prefer the #41 clone to the VOTC stormie. The helmet is too small on the stormie in proportion to his body.
-
I've got to add this to my potential list of great army builders...

I want no less than 20... 10 for display and many for custom fodder. What a great looking figure.
:)
edit - just stopping by to shrink the picture, it was just a tad too large... Jeff
-
He does look very cool but I'm not a fan of angle cut elbows.
-
Too bad the photographer of this source photo didn't know how to armor the figure properly. ::)
-
I dunno. It looks like a nice figure, but OT is not for me. Mine will stay prisoner on card.

For a failed TIE Pilot, that's a pretty sweet figure. 8) I hope to get quite a few. Say, did anyone else notice that his armor is on backwards? ::)

That boba fett looks mighty tasty. I wonder how many little kiddies will take those into their mouths. I know my niece has tried more than once with the blue ones.
-
Mmmmm... Gummy Boba Fett :P
-
With the Endor wave just around the corner... I am wondering how long it will be before we are talking about the Death Star Gunner as a great army builder... that figure just looks so sweet.
:)
-
Definitely! He looks awesome! 8)
-
you guys seem to be forgetting the Nem Warrior. he was plenty abundant, action feature weapon, removable helmet. hell he even went for the price reduc. what else do you guys want out of a figure ;D

knee joints.

Neimoidian Commander looks better with silver armor and the CIS symbol painted on.
I have 3 warriors I'll swap ya?
-
Either the Utapua Clone or VOTC Stormie. If they did an SA 501st figure that would be ultimate. The DS Gunner that's coming out later isn't as exciting as troopers but I'll build that too. :P
-
Top 5 army builders ever, in no particular order:
1. SA EIII clone 41 (and all it's paint variants: shock, utapau, gree etc.)
2. VOTC stormie (and Tatooine Saga sandie obviously)
3. VTSC scout
4. Preview Wookiee (and EIII heavy gunner paint variant)
5. Evolutions 327th Star Corps Felucia grunt
Gotta give the Saga AT AT driver props too.
-
That's the perfect list, except for the wookiee wouldn't be in there (not trying to make you cry or anything ;))
-
5. Evolutions 327th Star Corps Felucia grunt
I disagree. With the pauldron one, they helmet leaves the chin exposed and that is bad.
I agree on The SA # 41, and the VOTC Scout, but I dunno, about the Stromtroppers as I do not have any. I like the Comtech/Imperial forces one, as the have the "death throws" and "Guard at the ready" poses I need for my Bespin set up.
-
Dressel's list is close to what I'd probably go with too... I'd have the Stormtrooper take the #1 slot. It's simply "perfect" to me, or as close as Hasbro's ever likely to acheive, and it's a shame this figure isn't widely available to fans at a good price at all times.
I'd say the E2 and E3 SA Clones would make the list... They're great. VTSC Scout... And I'd leave the WOokiee simply because you're getting not only great figure quality, but you're getting a LOT of figure with it.
While I'd love to slip the Evolutions figures in there too, I'm reluctant to have them take over any other figure's slot. The E2 and E3 Clones are basics so they're theoretically less expensive... The VOTC Stormtrooper gets #1 to me because it's OT... The Wookiee was just simply great. That's a figure I'd buy again and again in as many fur colors as Hasbro wanted to put out there. I'd dig a black one with grey stripes right now, and a cream colored one.
I'd dig some new gear for them though... Namely the ammo harness and a new/good bowcaster and Wookiee "Long Gun".
-
My list of top 10 would be:
1.Utapua Clone Trooper/VOTC Stormtrooper
2.VTSC Biker Scout
3.501st Trooper (Like I said before they need to release an SA one so these guys can be #1)
4.Shocktrooper
5.Sandtrooper (TSC)
6.Security Battle Droid
7.White ROTS Clone (SA)
8.AOTC Clones (SA)
9.AT-AT Driver
10.Galactic Marine (If it's SA)
-
Top 5 army builders:
5. TSC Naboo Flight crew
4. Evo Clone Trooper (E2)
3. OTC TIE Fighter Pilot
2. Evo Sandtrooper
1. VTSC Biker Scout
-
5. Evolutions 327th Star Corps Felucia grunt

Tilt the head back (chin up), place the helmet under the chin and slip it over his head chin first. That is, while the helmet is on, the chin is pointed upwards and hidden by the helmet.
Problem solved, none of the chins show on my 12 grunts.
-
I'll play along.
1 - VOTC Stormtrooper/SAGA2 Sandtrooper
2 - ROTS #41 Clone (including paint variants of it)
3 - VSTC Biker Scout
4 - ROTS Heavy Gunner Wookiee
5 - SAGA2 AT-AT Driver
6 - SAGA2 Sun Fac
7 - AOTC Evolutions Clonetrooper w/ removable helmet/pilot helmet
8 - OTC Tie Pilot
9 - Evolutions Sandtrooper
10 - ROTS Battle Droid
I am hoping the upcoming Death Star Gunner will make the top 5 for me, I am thinking it will. And the new Endor Rebel looks very promising.
:)

Cut him some slack, I'm sure after he painted his 20th scout into Kashyyyk deco, he was sick of it enough to promote 2 other figures higher on the list.

Top 5 army builders:
5. TSC Naboo Flight crew
Maybe one of us should get one in hand first...
-
That is pretty silly and probably a first.
In that case then I think the best army builder ever is the SA Gungan warrior that might get made sometime in the next 12 years. ::)
-
I'd agree on waiting till it's in-hand. I mean the sculpt wasn't looking fabulous from pictures so I'm not willing to bump that guy yet. ;)
Poseable yes, but not super poseable by ANY means so I don't think he'd make my top 5... The Wookiee only does because he's near super poseable and BULKY. The fact he came with a lot of gear didn't hurt either really. Otherwise I need SA for troopers to make the grade.
Doesn't hurt if they're from a GOOD movie too. :)
-
41 Trooper all the way.
He actually pegwarmed for a while, about 30 of them sitting on the pegs with Mustafar Sentries, Obis, and Neimoidians.
That was when we had figures clogging the pegs and a whole aisle for SW,
Then, as the section shrunk, 5-10 of them still sat there. Not lying, they just sat there. Too bad I couldn't find that many Battle Droids... :(
1: 41 Trooper
2: Utapau Clone
3. VOTC Stormtrooper
4. VTSC Scout Trooper
5. ATTE Gunner
6. Value Pack Clones
7. Lushros Dofine
8. ATRT Driver
9. Clone 3 Packs
10. ARC Troopers (Non animated)

Heh heh, thanks Dressel. I think that also I've started to want the helmet on the VSTC Scout to be a bit larger, and because of that I've started to like the VOTC Stormtrooper and #41 Clone a bit more. I guess somewhere between April 8 and July 1st, being exposed to the figure more (including all the repaints) made the "newness" of the figure wear off some.
And besides we're all entitled to have our favorite figures change from time to time.
:)
-
Also Chewie,"all" of the 41 clone variants are good builders?I don't think Gree was a builder. :P
-
Okay, here goes my list...
1) VOTC Stormtrooper - duh.
2) VOTC Biker Scout - duh
3) SA Sandtrooper
4) Evolutions Sandtrooper
5) Evolutions SA EII Clone
6) EIII SA Clone
7) TIE Fighter Pilot (OTC)
8) Rebel Fleet Trooper (Just seeing if Jesse was paying attention).
8) Evolutions Clone Commander
9) EII Clone (Clone Wars)
10) AT-AT Driver (TSC)
-
Setting cost aside, I'm going to guess that the upcoming Snowtrooper is going to give the Bikerscout a run for it's money.
