I've sold my first short story! :o Read about it here. (http://terminal-optimist.blogspot.com/) I'm so excited. Finally, all that hard work is paying off. Now if I can just get this book sold... been close a few times, but no joy. I guess if I keep banging on the door, they gotta let me in sometime. Or maybe they'll just call the cops. ;)
-
Congratulations!!! :D
-
The first step to making it to the top. Congrats!
-
Dude, I'll buy a round!
Congrats!
-
Congratulations Spuff. That's awesome. So you sold your story, what's the next step as far as book sales go? How's it work? You get a flat commission for the story up front, and then additional royalties on a per book basis if/when they sell?
Either way, that's very cool! Author Spuffy you shall now be known as... 8)
-
That's definitely cool Spuffy. Getting published was something I always wanted back when I wrote when I was younger and thought I could do something with it. I never felt I had it in me to actually "make it" though and didn't pursue that.
You really made a strong achievement with that, and a book you're pushing too is just great. I hope you get that too. I didn't know you were working on these things. Congratulations!
-
Congratulations spuffy That's fantastic. My wife just recently sent here resubmit to her publishing company interested in a book she wrote. She stil has a long way to go, but she excited about the process.
What a Big day for you, now you need to get on the promtion trail.
-
Congratulations Spuffy, that is tremendous news. I hope this is the first step towards achieving all of your goals and dreams, great job.
-
Good for you Spuffy... you've always seemed like a great guy.
The basis for the story sounds outstanding!
:P
-
Congrats, published author. :)
-
Thanks a lot, guys. This is why JD is the best place around. :)
I am shopping my first novel (really my second, the first is shall we say... a disaster) around while I continue to write the new one, and also I have some other short stories out there circulating. It's so hard, but this is all I've ever wanted. I feel like finally I'm making some headway.
As far as the sale of the story, yeah, it's a fee up front and then some royalties, provided there are any. They're sending me the contracts soon. My first contract! ;D

Wow, this is great news for you Darb! Congrats and good luck with the next step :)
-
Very cool!! So, do I get a signed copy when you release your first novel?? ;)
Congrats!!

I did it again! And two stories sold in one day! I need some heart medication. Read about it here (http://darby-harn.blogspot.com/2006/02/doing-peanuts-happy-dance.html).

Very cool Darb! Congrats! 8)

I've been gloating about a literary analysis paper I wrote being published in a collection. :) Pathetic I know Spuffy but I'm having a comically good time telling everyone I'm published when in actuality about the only way you could read anything I wrote is finding it in an academic research database...
Made me SLIGHTLY proud, and gave me a good laugh at the same time.

My life is feast or famine.
That's the truth. ;)
Congratulations!

Thanks a lot guys. :)

Two in one day? Wow.
I guess that means I buy two rounds of Guinness at Monica's this weekend. ;)
Congrats, Darby!

Damn straight. ;)

Well done, congratulations Darby.

Sold another! And it's one you can read (http://donavanhall.net/angler/002/?n=8) online. Plus it's real short, so if it's boring, it only lasts a moment!
:)
-
Congrats Darby! It was very short but hooked me really quickly. Is this an ongoing story?
-
Nah, it's just the one piece. It actually was a lot longer to begin with, and it still could be, I suppose. Thanks for the comments. :)
I should actually take the opportunity to thank you here for helping with the formatting on those stories a while back. They didn't sell to the magazine, and of course now they changed it so it's not to hard a thing to submit, but I appreciate it anyway!
:)
-
Congrats, Spuffy!
I know the thrill of being published can't easily be matched.

I know many of you are sci-fi geeks like me, so you may find it interesting.
Thanks for looking!

Congrats Darby, that's fantastic news!

Darby...I've been meaning to post here for a couple of weeks as I finished Elizabeth. I have to say that it was a really good read. Cool concept and a really cool blend of Sci-Fi and History. Not sure if you ever read Crichton's Timeline but I kept thinking of that in reverse while reading (with a little Firefly and Blade Runner thrown in).
I also liked the SW Easter Egg ;) Well done!

I've been meaning to order mine for a while, so I grabbed it from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Book-Elizabeth-Darby-Gavin-Harn/dp/0615496008/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1311636683&sr=1-1) tonight.
