Vintage Kenner / Re: recent scores

One thing I notice about ebay is if the guy wants to pull something on you they give a bad picture and/or poor description.

In this case you're probably OK, but  sometimes you will get a "Desert man with turban" who from a distance looks like Dengar. The seller will protect themselves from lying by hiding behind the idea that they don't know any better.

I have seen someone with over 300 ebay sales (mostly Star Wars) playing dumb in a similar manner and you could really see a GI Joe figure half covered looking like an important Star Wars fig. "All sales final" and "ask any questions before bidding" do hold alot of water.

"Buyer Beware" is a good point. ;)

Sorry if I seemed to stray off of topic a bit. :)

Thanks guys. :)

I received 8 of the Falcons in an ebay auction, 1 buy chance and the other after looking eveywhere for the perfect one. Of course I only needed one but the others were a good price. I've been finding the missing parts required to complete them and turned it into a hobby inside of a hobby. 8)

I need a few more R2s before "the resident R2 afficionado" can be applied. :)

I'm not a computer wiz but can one of the staff members "host" this avatar on the site for me? It's the one I'm using.

I really need a better one. My usual avatar on other forums is apparently too big (60 x 60) for Jedi Defener's 50 x 50 setting.

I am a major R2 fan and need to express it better. Can you help me? :-\

Star Wars Universe / Star Wars Movie Quotes
« on: June 8, 2003, 11:39 AM »
I was thinking we could play a game regarding quotes from the Star Wars movies.

I'll start by placing my quote. In your answer state the movie, who said it, and to whom it was said. You can also fill us in on the scene if you'd like. Whoever answers it first gets to place the next quote. If you think they answered incorrectly start a friendly argument and we'll put the one who gave the wrong answer in carbonite. :o

Here is my quote:

"Laugh it up fuzzball !" ::)

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Hasbro Points
« on: June 8, 2003, 11:27 AM »
Why I feel we deserve something:

I feel we deserve something because they made these points so use them. If they don't then I believe it is false advertising by generating sales on peoples expectations. Since they started making points I don't recall them being used. A child could grow up and lose interest in keeping the points before Hasbro will do something.

What I feel the points should be used for:
Turn the machines back on and make some more 25th Silver Anniversary R2-D2s I need one loose now. While they're at it put the legs on the right way and change the cardback to look similar to the origional POTF. Charge me whatever for shipping to Canada being a loyal Canadian customer. I think if you are going to sell Hasbro in Canada then have the anniversary gifts here too.

Total number of points I have:720

Hey Hasbro! / Hasbro Points
« on: June 8, 2003, 11:26 AM »
This was a little something I started a few months ago at www.thebothanspy.com . The article ran its course and had alot of feedback I was thinking we can get the views of the JD members in this forum. This was my post in part:

Every time I bought a Star Wars action figure since the Power of the Force "Commtalk chips" came out in 1999, I looked on the back and saw "Jedi Master Points". This magical statement was written on top of the proof of purchase bar code until the end of the Episode 1 line, and was to hopefully signify good things to come.

Nothing happened.

Then came the Star Wars Saga/Episode 2 series and they changed the name on the proof of purchase to "Hasbro Points". Since then I have continued to wait patiently for good things to come.

Still waiting...

When I was a kid, collecting wasn't an issue. I would get my Kenner Star Wars action figures, rip them from their packages and send my handful of those proofs of purchase away for my free Admiral Ackbar, Nien Nunb or whatever the offer at the time happened to be.

Seeing the Jedi Master Points from Hasbro had me feeling like that little kid again, but with a twist. This time I had money. I would buy one for a keepsake, another to have loose and send the proofs of purchase in for Hasbro's big deal.

But lately, my enthusiasm has started to fade. I e-mailed their customer service department last weekend, writing:

"Hello, I require information on Hasbro 'Jedi Master Points' relating to all Star Wars products. Myself, all others in my group and those on other web sites are wanting information on when these points will be activated for something.

I don't necessarily want to keep all my packages or cut them up for a "someday maybe" moment that might never happen. I do have a million of these things and would deeply like to use them for something.

I live in Canada and would have liked to see them used for the 25th Silver Anniversary R2-D2. Then I could have picked one up without spending $10.00 USD from an eBay scalper + shipping + handling + customs and taxes. In comic shops up here in Quebec, they are selling for as much as $80.00 Canadian. For a supposedly free item there are people selling these on ebay by the box!

I would appreciate some news as soon as possible so I can have some information to write on a couple of web sites on April 4th. I do love the toys and Hasbro makes a quality product, but if there isn't going to be a use for Hasbro points are you going to stop making them? "

I would like to hear everyone's opinion regarding this subject. State why you feel we deserve something and what you feel the points should be used for. At the bottom of your reply write in the total number of points you've accumulated.

Welcome aboard, Chris # 1,000!

I've got 37 Jango Fett figures. 2 Packs, 4 Packs, carded, loose, Tri Logo, European, you name it! Ain't character collecting grand?

Anyway, enjoy yourself. Soon enough we'll have all of Snowtroopers.ca over here.  ;)

I saw you wrote about your Jango Fett collection and that is what got me interested in JD. ;D You have it easy though. You must be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. :)

My purpose behind collecting R2s is that he has been through all the movies and has the most figure variations of all time. If they were to have a "who was the all time #1 Star Wars character" pagent I'm betting my money on R2. ;)

But the important thing is we collect what we love and Jangos the father of the Clone Troopers (Storm Troopers in Ep.3 I presume). That makes him very important.

We might not ever have the biggest Star Wars collections but we will be the specialists in Jango and R2. 8)

Is there anyone else doing what Jango Fettish and I are? ???

Vintage Kenner / Re: Sears Canada General Veers Vacuformed
« on: June 8, 2003, 10:05 AM »
You know the part about these Canadian vacuum formed cards that can make me kick myself in the butt is that I'm Canadian. When I was just a kid I walked through Sears and saw these on the shelf. I was embarassed for Canada. Isaid to myself "Look at this cheap packaging! Leave it to Canada to be different".

Now I'm looking in the Star Wars Collector's Wish Book pg.41 and the Vacuum packed General Veers and he's staring back at me with a price tag of $3,500.00 USD.

Today is the day I found JD! Nice place you have here. ;)

I've only been collecting for a year now and it started to get ridiculous so I've put it on hold for a bit. I have all but 1 vintage fig loose up to ROTJ, almost all of Ep. 1 moc, 10 vintage Millenium Falcons (yes 10) and more or less any POTF2 and Saga figs that strike my fancy. Of course I have a bunch of other vintage ships and trinkets but too many to mention.

When I figure it out I'd like to post my collection photos (mildly outdated but good pictures).

My collecting goal is to get one of  EVERY R2-D2 package variation that ever came out as well as one of every loose one. As of June 07/03 I have 32 different package variations with no end in site. There are alot more then you might think. :-\

JD looks like a nice site and I'll be browsing around it for a long time to come. ;D
