Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Should I...
« on: June 4, 2003, 08:22 PM »
Not that anyone is particularly concerned with what I think but I really do see it as a poor choice.  Hasbro's distribution sucks lately, probably even more than usual as lots of folks are having a terrible time finding stuff all over the US, never mind Canada.  Being collector's, there's a bit of an addiction thing going on and we need to hunt, to buy, and possibly to trade.  No new SW toys?  Grab another line or lines.  Simpsons, MOTU, LOTR, McFarlane whatever.

I'll grant you, I've seen trade lists at RS without any SW content, but not many and usually from people with other SW trade lists.  I really don't get it.  Overall the place is dominated with SW content.  90% of the forums are SW only, Wuhers and the trade/classifieds were basically the only ones not.

Weird decision, but not mine to say why.

Civic Nation.

Have you guys seen these ads?  A bunch of Civics customized driving around with thumping bass?

Now don't get me wrong, the first car I ever owned was a Civic (1980) as was the second, 1986 CRX.  But come on.  These are economy cars that sell for what, about $11 K US and guys are dropping the same amount for stereos and customizing the body?  I simply don't get it.  That and the local Civic Nation is irritating as hell.  They all have customized, illegal mufflers that do nothing for sound and they all race around on the residential streets.   Bugger off ya little snot bags before I put a real hole in your muffler >:(  And get some real music you freaks. ;)

But who do you make?  Kariya has been repainted and is largely invisible scoring wise this series.  The goal scorers for the ducks are non-entities beyond that with an exception or two?  Steve Thomas?  Gigeure is a no brainer, but I think they announced the lineups for series 6 + 7 before his playoff run.

And who do you make from the Devils?  Nieuwendyk?  Old, done.  How about Brodeur?  Well, he's been in series 1 and us Canuckleheads have the Team Canada version (though mine has a bent peg >:()

I totally agree though that lots of deserving guys are being passed up.  There was a good thread for a long time at Spawn on that.  At one point I tallied the votes, but don't remember who was tops anymore.

Yeah, I noticed it too.  Little more solid, just growing up I suppose.

I like where Vader ended up.  Even for my age, Psycho wasn't very dramatic when I saw it, but when it was released :o  That was a stunning move to release a movie like that.  I can accept Norman being there.

I still haven't seen Hannibal but Lecter is a most excellent villain and certainly more evil, if only on a personal scale than Vader.

One of the interesting things to watch is my daughter watching SW movies.  She's 3.  Dooku and Jango don't scare her in the least.  She LOVES Darth Maul.  But Vader scares her.  The only other thing that scares her is the Witch in Snow White.  I've been a Vader fan for so long that the evil that comes across in the movie is totally lost on me.  He's not bad, he's cool.  But not to a 3 year old.

Episode 1 / Re: How many episode 1 figs do you have?
« on: June 3, 2003, 11:48 PM »
I still need the pit droid 2-pack to complete my collection.I'd also like to get the hard to find accessory sets that I still dont ever see anywhere for sale at a descent price. They rarely ever come up on Ebay and when they do the bidding gets way out of control.

The pit droid 2 pack was the last I needed as well, but I managed to score one off ebay during the winter for around $13 shipped.  Pretty good deal I thought.

Yeah, couldn't remember 6 or 7 for Roy.  Thanks for the clarification.  No doubt there will be demand, I just don't need it I guess.

Didn't know the Wings didn't have a third jersey :-[  Still, six Cujo's is too many for me.  He'll be in anyway.  Guess we'll have to wait for NHL8 for Gigeure and Lalime.  Not even convinced Lalime will get a figure, though I would say through the regular season he was 1 or 2 with Brodeur.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: hey, are you a star wars fan?
« on: June 3, 2003, 11:20 PM »
Nope, not even close.  I've only seen a couple of guys locally with their collections, but they are impressive.  I might have passed them, but only because I'm insane when it comes to collecting.  I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out there are guys with better collections locally.  Actually check that, Maureen from RS staff (main page) is so far ahead on anyone else locally it's spooky.  Now that I think of it I know two or three others closer to her than me.

Nationally I'm really far down the list.  DSJ, Membraneman, Koda (all members here) are far ahead of me.  Nitrog71, Lord Perrin Goldeneyes, brew and a bunch of others are probably ahead too.  Lots of others equal.

Once I set foot outside the Canadian snow, it's hopeless.  I'm just an Ewok hating schmuck from the little leagues. ;)

Watto's Junk Yard / American Film Institute Heroes and Villains
« on: June 3, 2003, 11:14 PM »
Not sure if anyone caught this on CBS tonight but it listed (apparently) the top 100 heroes and villains from films in the last 100 years.

Star Wars had the most nominees with four: Leia, Luke, Han and Vader.  I have no idea where the three heroes placed (couldn't find results on web yet, later) but Vader finished at #3.  He came in behind Norman Bates (2) and Hannibal Lecter (1).  Not too shabby.
