Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Original Trilogy Collection
« on: February 13, 2004, 11:40 AM »
Yeah, this really is a tremendous day for collectors.  Everything shown looks pretty great, and to be honest I am almost most excited about the "vitnage-esque" line.  In a way I'm almost disappointed it is only 12 figures, but we'll have to see who the rest will end up being.  If you think about it, this is basically combines what many of us have been talking about and asking for for awhile now:

1. Super articulated "definitive" versions of the main characters.
2. Cards similar (or in this case, exactly) like our favorite vintage versions.

If the rest of the line is as well articulated as Han looks to be, I don't think we'll be disappointed.  I would think (and really hope), that a well-articulated Vader has to be included somewhere.  I hope we hear more about this, this weekend.  The Dagobah and Bespin waves are great though...too bad it is the last of the themed waves.  This really is shaping up to be the best year of Star Wars collecting, at least since I have been collecting.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Original Trilogy Collection

This is a great surprise for Friday, I figured we wouldn't see/hear much until Sunday.  It is nice to have some clarification now too on the "Original Trilogy Collection" and the 12 vintage-styled figures (4 from each movie).  Looking at those pictures, those figures seem to be very well articulated, neutrally-stanced, and nicely sculpted.  Kind of what we have been asking for for awhile now.  I'm not quite sure what to think of the soft-goods on Obi and Luke, but they do look great.  Even though we've gotten a lot of Cantina Han, I think this figure looks terrific...and I can't wait to see them on the vintage cardbacks.

Wow, this was a nice surprise today... I figured we'd have to wait until Sunday to find out anything.  These figures really look great.  I'll definitely be buying each and every one of them.  I kind of hope the Dagobah Luke has some sort of interchangable head/arms too, but it is hard to tell.  It looks great in that pose, but I'd hate to have it only be able to do that pose and no others.  Maybe we'll find out more in a couple of days!  Both of these waves look great though.

Hall of Justice / Re: Mattel Batman

Although I'm not a Batman collector, I do really like the character and try to keep up on the movies/cartoons/toys.  I just saw this over at TNI this morning, some pics of the figure line accompanying the new "The Batman" cartoon series.  Check out the new Batcave, that looks like one heck of a playset!  If only Hasbro could do something this big for Star Wars.

You can see the rest of it here, I might be tempted to pick up the Batman at least, kind of a neat look.

Rebelscum has posted what may be a possible logo for the Original Trilogy Collection, pretty cool.  I really hope that we get a look at some of the figures/packaging for this collection at Toy Fair this weekend :).

Apparently an upcoming "Boba Fett" novel cover has a picture of a rumored Episode III villain (General Grievous for those following the spoilers).  Who knows if this will be what he looks like in the movie, or if this is way off base...but I thought I'd post it either way.  Interesting to see if nothing else.

Possible Episode III Villain

Also, here's the quote that accompanies the book: "On his first big assignment for Jabba the Hutt, Boba must confront a new galactic villain -- a sinister force who will play a significant role in the upcoming film Star Wars: Episode III!"

Also, thanks for posting that cover art for the ROTK DVD, Mainland.  I really hope that May 25th rumor is true, it would be nice to get that DVD as soon as possible....then, bring on the extended version :).

I agree, I'm really just happy to hear that some version of the OT is coming to DVD.  It is really great to finally have actual "confirmation" on this, after hearing the rumors for so long.  It would have been nice to have the original versions as well, but I think most of us figured it would be the SE's.  I personally don't mind the SEs either, but could have done without parts too (Greedo shooting first, Luke's scream in Empire, the new Rebo Band additions, etc.)  I actually watched my old, original version Return of the Jedi this past weekend, and was surprised at how different it was.  I didn't even remember the difference in Han's line to Lando (at the pit) went from "Wait I thought you were blind".."Trust Me"....to "I can see a lot better now".  It had just been so long since I had watched the original versions I guess.  Anyways, this is really great news, and I'll be anxious to hear what the extras disc will all contain.

Coaches continue to drop like flies in the East....Philly's Randy Ayers is the latest coaching casualty:

Sixers Fire Ayers

There's not going to be any coaches left in the East at this rate :P.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Classic Trilogy DVD Release!
« on: February 10, 2004, 10:25 AM »
Although we have heard this rumored for awhile (and several times before), it is just so great to see it comfirmed officially...by Lucasfilm and everything.  Obviously, I can't wait to get these films on DVD, whether they are the Special Editions or not, I just would love to have them in that form (although it would be nice to have both versions on there).  Plus, I'm excited to hear more details on the fourth disc of extras.  The commentary sounds great as well.  I kind of hope the extras include some of those old "making of" type shows, like the one called "From Star Wars to Jedi" which I remember seeing on TV as a kid, around the time of Return of the Jedi (and after).  Anyways, great news!

Yeah, that is a good point Scott....the West powers really seem to keep their teams together for the most part, just interchanging some of the supporting cast or players usually.  Of course, there are always some changes (Wolves adding Cassell/Spree, Lakers adding Malone/Payton, Kings adding Miller, and Spurs adding Nesterovic/Hedo/Horry), but the stars are pretty much always in place, and they build around them.

Also, just saw that news this morning about the Sheed trade.  Nice to hear something go down finally, although I'm not sure why Atlanta did that.  I can only assume that they would let Sheed and Person walk right away this summer, and have some cap room because of it.  Portland should be able to continue to "improve their image" with the additions of these guys though.  Plus, Abdur-Rahim is a pretty good player...although most don't know much about him since he has always played on crappy teams.

On one other note, I have to say now that I think I'm "jumping on" the Timberwolves bandwagon.  Although it will probably look like I'm just being the fair-weather fan...I don't really mean to be.  I haven't had a "team" since the old-days Bulls (and to some extent the Wizards...only because of MJ), and I just can't handle what they have done to that team.  I've always been a big KG fan, and the Timberwolves are the closest NBA team to where we live, so I thought I'd go local too.  More coverage of them around here than other teams too.  I still enjoy watching several other teams as well (Cavs, Nuggets, Kings, Mavericks, Bucks), and I know I can't claim the T-wolves as well as Minnesotans.  It is easier for you people actually living in a state that has professional teams, we just have to pick one around here :P.

Wow, that Bossk is really amazing.  I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really like what they have done with this one.  I have just been collecting the OT-based figures from this line (apart from Yoda and Jango), and I will definitely add Bossk to my collection if I can find him.  Much cooler than I even thought it could be.

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: Wave 2 - Animated Clone Wars Figures
« on: February 9, 2004, 10:37 AM »
I found a single Wave 2 figure this past weekend (Dooku), and he was on a pretty bent up card.  I bought it anyways, because I don't care about card condition too much, since I'm an opener.  Otherwise, I haven't seen any of Wave 2 yet, but they must have been there at one point.  I think there was like 2 each of Anakin, Obi, Mace, and maybe 3 of Assaj on the pegs as well.

I know I'm a little late to the game here, but I just came across this thread (and pics) today.  I just had to post to say what incredible work you do Muftak.  I am just astounded by each and ever level you have put together.  That is a tremendous diorama, and I can't believe how great everything looks.  Tremendous work!
