Title: Mother Talzin/Night Sister Was To Be A TVC Figure?
Post by: Jesse James on October 30, 2013, 09:22 PM
Night Sister TVC Figure (http://www.jedidefender.com/index.php?id=638)

As per Greg's lists of figures from Hasbro's site, it seems the Mother Talzin/Night Sister figure was intended at one point to be a TVC Figure.  Weird eh?

This doesn't surprise me at all - they probably had an EU Sith Witch figure on tap for the Vintage line and when something VERY SIMILAR to that design showed up in the Clone Wars cartoon, they said "close enough" and used her as a stand-in for Mother Talzin. If you look at the figure - it's definitely a Vintage-quality figure.

Yes, I remember hearing from Hasbro on this.

Yeah, that was straight from the mouth of Derryl himself...

In the most recent Rebelscum Force Cast Collector Edition (Sept 2011), DePriest mentioned that they have a Nightsister called Mighella sculpted, and she could be released in the vintage line.

Wow ok I didn't recall that at all...  Seemed like it was a big conspiracy that she looked realistic and stuff...  Never recall anyone saying anything about the TVC connection at the time then.

Better than nothing I guess. At least she makes a good base for a custom Nightsister.

And you know, as part of that battle pack, she was available in stores.

Hell, on clearance.

All I wanted from that set was her, and I didn't want her that badly, but the thought she'd be "rare" compelled me to buy...  But steadily she discounted and those sets went NOWHERE (despite the "fan demand" supposedly backing them... Where's the collector outrage?) and continued to just keep dropping.  I kept taking my set back...  I think I returned that thing 4 times for price adjustments and wound up getting that Talzin figure for $7 or less.

I personally bought about 13-14 of those battle packs when they hit $5.98 here, I would have kept buying them at that price if I could have found any more. I think I'm down to about 5 left now. I sold most of them but am content to hang onto a couple for future custom projects. (Like swapping out that whack Darth Maul head on the upcoming Mission Series 2-pack)

I think that pack's failure was a sure sign the Clone Wars line's appeal was dead to anyone but diehard collectors. That Savage Oppress was a tough figure to find, and Maul has kid appeal.

And I think that Nightsister figure had some telling signs about the realistic line's popularity too...  Obscurity...  I remember people being giddy about it...  I think that pack says a bit about the line's health in general at that point.  Partially perhaps the set's price, but also possibly the distance growing among collectors of the line overall, not just CW or realistic.

Yeah, I agree with Jesse. This hit at a weird transition time where there was a lot of collector dis-connect. It's hard to estimate the impact of them failing to pack in Savage's lightsaber, which was a glaring omission. I personally know a few people who passed on this just for that reason alone. I also think sales were somewhat muted when they decided to release Darth Maul single carded.
