Collect All 92! / Re: Rebel Soldier (Hoth Battle Gear)

Here it is, my single most favorite vintage figure made.  I had more of this one than any other.  I'll never forget that X-Mas that I discovered the AT-AT hidden in my parents' closet, and more of this figure to help battle it!  I recently bought a C9 loose version to put on my little vintage loose display.  Great figure and time for an update!

Thanks, everyone!  I decided to do this scene partially because of the silly collectors who lamented Willrow's creation.  He is the focus of this dio, though I was able to put many figures in there anyway!  Thanks also to Scott for putting this on the front page  :-*

Here are a couple reference shots first; note the asian guy version of Willrow's outfit (I think they are the custodians of cloud city; you can see one when the heroes first arrive onto cloud city, who seems to be cleaning the windows or walls):

I normally like to have identical details, but I changed a few things for necessity (like the guard holding the silver piece in his other arm; I'm missing his hand so needed to do that!).  More info after the pics:

Ok, some details: first of all, every figure was hot-glued onto the floor to maintain the running posture.  I tried to balance them as much as possible so that the hot glue would hold them in place easily.  Lando is the VOTC version with the head from the Falcon co-pilot version.  Leia is the POTJ version spraypainted whiter (her outfit is MUCH brighter in the film than on the figure), and the 3PO is the only extra I had: the Ultra escape pod version.  The asian Willrow uses the POTF2 Y-Wing pilot head, and the yellow shirt guy is the Falcon Lando body with Sandstorm Han head slightly cut to alter it a little.  CC Guard #1 is the Legacy head painted caucasian, and CC guard #2 is the black Endor trooper head.  The cylindrical "lights" are soda cans dressed with foamie pieces, rubber bands, and a zip-tie all spray-painted white.  The rest of the effect is natural lighting, which is great for a Cloud City dio!

Happy 30th Anniversary to TESB!

Hey guys- this is a recent dio I completed, meant to represent 2 different scenes but in the same diorama.  The base is styrofoam covered in Instant Papier Mache', and the trees are crumpled construction paper covered in IPM.  The ground was then covered in real decorator moss that I spraypainted green.  I made a few modifications to the speederbikes, which are the POTF2 versions, and then I suspended them from below with twigs covered in moss to hide them a bit.  Hope you like!

This is the dais I made a few years back, which will hold me over I think, even if they make one.  I'll buy it anyway for the Jabba and Oola though!

Ok, the cloak that came with Panno would not take spraypaint, dye, or even bleach!  I almost gave up, then tried good old acrylic paint, which took nicely!  I had to thin it a little with water every once in a while.  Orimaarko's head is the POTF2 version dremeled for the Panno neck, and all cloaks are hot glued on in a few places to look more natural.  Here are a couple pics of them in my dio:

I still think he's the best in the wave!  I'm thinking of buying another to head and hand swap into a variant Cloud City tech.  If only the belly wasn't sculpted so large  :P

Hasbro seems to have some really curious choices to start a new line of figures with.  As for these, I'm passing on the AT-AT Commander, and will probably put the last Dengar's head on the new body.  Leia is wonderful, but her POTF2 boots are actually more film-accurate than the typical Hoth boots like those on the new version (no big deal there though).  Luke looks a good bit better too.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2010 Boba Fett Mail-Away Offer?

Well sure, the Fett idea certainly has its history... but haven't we received every incarnation of modern Fett as recently as this year?  I mean, the rocket-firing idea might be a cool nod to the past, but I'd rather a mail-away get me something new and long-sought after.  I have too many Fetts as it is!

However, exactly to your point, we will be refocusing Legends a bit and sending some key figures over into the line that will replace Legacy so there is some core hero traction to that line as well.

This statement bothers me a touch; do they mean we'll see an Anakin, for example, in both Saga Legends and the new Legacy line?  Or an older Vader again?  If so, I hope they're shortpacked.  Legends may sell well, but they seem to be overproduced anyway, and are certainly overstocked.

Of course, the slide itself is questionable.  But if true, the Fett promotion is a bit dull.  That might have been a good place for Admiral Ackbar, a promotion from vintage days.

A guy over at RS who has been a member since 2001 claimed to have called the Hasbro customer service line, inquiring about the item number.  After checking her computer, the lady said it was indeed an AT-AT.  I suppose we could try to do the same tomorrow!

I so WANT it to be an AT-AT, but I'm worried that $100 is too little for a significant update.  To be a minimalist about it, Hasbro could almost keep the head size and leg size/length, and just upscale the body to look more proportional.  Some think it's a new Slave 1, and that just seems so unlikely to me.

Edit: I thought I'd do a little rough MS Paint messing around, so I took the POTF2 AT-AT and upscaled the body and legs 125% of what they were, to get an idea of proportion.  Here's the rough:

What I haven't seen but have heard of:

Giran with Ewoks
Ugnaught with Nikto Gunner
Slave Leia with DS2 Luke
Saleucami Trooper with Major Panno
ARC Trooper with Nien Nunb

Those are exactly the ones I've seen, and no others, both at WM and Target.
