Title: Pop Culture Icons
Post by: Brian on April 13, 2006, 12:48 PM
You hear this term thrown around quite a bit, and I've always been kind of interested in what has gotten to "pop culture icon" status in our society.  No matter what generation you are from, what do you think are the most prominent "pop culture icons" in our life?  Is there anything else starting now or recently that might attain that stature down the road?

Off the top of my head, Star Wars is an obvious one.  We know that all to well.  Mainly due to the original movies, but the name itself has become pretty iconic - as well as characters within.  I would think most people would be able to recognize Darth Vader, and to a lesser extent R2 and 3PO, Chewbacca, Yoda, and Stormtroopers.  Han Solo, Boba Fett, Luke, Leia, etc. are all pretty well known as well.  Overall, just "Star Wars" itself has to be considered one of the largest.  A few others, off the top of my head:

Superman (maybe other heroes such as Batman and Spider-Man)
The Simpsons (other shows, Seinfeld, Friends, etc.)
Mickey Mouse
Michael Jordan
The Beatles
